Kala Frye

LEXINGTON — Services for Kala Danielle Frye, 18, of Lexington, will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, January 21, 2005, in the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, officiated by Rev. Dallas Goff. Burial will follow in Southland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Ms. Frye died Wednesday, January 19, 2005. Born in West Columbia, she was the daughter of Buddy Frye and Keli Crosland. She was a lifelong area resident.

Surviving, in addition to her father of Lexington and her mother of West Columbia, are her brothers, Greg Brazell, Matthew Brazell, and Blake Frye, all of West Columbia; maternal grandparents, Daniel and Treasa Crosland of Lexington; paternal grandparents, Kenneth and Coleen Frye of Lexington; and paternal great grandmother, Eula Holder of Pickens.

Kala is loved and will be greatly missed by all her family including her aunts, uncles, cousins, and her friends.

James Gilbert Jr.

PELION — A graveside service for Mr. James Preston “Pete” Gilbert Jr., 78, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, February 7th in the Dean’s Chapel Cemetery near Saluda.

Mr. Gilbert was born in Anderson County, the son of the late James P. Gilbert, Sr. and Martha Sellars Gilbert. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Mr. Gilbert is survived by sons, Terry and Johnny Gilbert of California and close friends, Gerald and Carolyn Pilot of Lexington. Special thanks to his care givers at the Brian Center. Arrangements conducted by Blizzard Funeral Home, 153 South Main St, Wagener (803) 564-5333.

Jessie Jones

HOPKINS — Funeral service for Jessie Jones of 209 Ault Road will be held 3:30 p.m. Friday, January 21, 2005, at St. Mark Baptist Church, Gadsden. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 20, 2005, 4-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

J.P. Holley Funeral Home, Garners Ferry Road Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Jones, widower of Martha Jones, died Tuesday, January 18, 2005. Born in Gadsden, he was the son of the late Duffy and Mary Sumter Jones. He was a member of St. Mark Baptist Church and formerly employed with Richland School District One.

He is survived by his son, Henry Jones; daughter, Jessie Mae Jones; brother, Walter Goodwin; sisters, Julia M. Jones and Ester Jones; six grandchildren.

Mark Miller

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. — Funeral services for Mark Tucker Miller, 44, of Pompano Beach, FL, formerly of Holly Hill, SC, will be 2 p.m. Friday, January 21, 2005 at the Holly Hill United Methodist Church with Rev. Jerry Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in the Holly Hill Cemetery. The casket will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.

Mark died Monday, January 17, 2005, at his home in Florida. He was the son of Harold Nelson Miller and Jo Ann Tucker Miller. He was a graduate of Holly Hill Academy and attended Francis Marion University. He was founder and CEO of H2O Environmental in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and a member of Holly Hill United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his parents of Holly Hill; daughter, Courtney Carson Miller and son, Tyler J. Miller, both of Melbourne, FL; sister, Debra M. (David) Burritt of Chapin; brother, Guy (Melanie Brown) Miller of Isle of Palms; niece, Kylee Burritt of Chapin; special friend, Miss Alex Denehan, New York, NY; and his faithful dog, Scooter.

Friends may call at Avinger Funeral Home in Holly Hill from 6 to 8 p.m. this Thursday.

Barbara Moore

COLUMBIA — Mrs. Barbara Ann Williams Moore of 124 W. Lakeside Ave., will be held 1 p.m. Friday at Palmer Memorial Chapel with burial in Palmetto Cemetery. Visitation is 6 tonight at Palmer Memorial Chapel.

Mrs. Moore died Saturday, January 16, 2005. Born in Richland County, she was the daughter of the late Estelle Williams. She received a B.S. Degree from Benedict College and did further study towards her Master’s at USC. She was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary, VFW Post #4262.

Surviving are her husband, Taylor Moore, III; son, Chris H. Simmons; brother, James (Janie) Williams; sister, Beverley (Bruce) Leeper.

Ted Phillips

CHARLESTON — Entered into eternal rest on the morning of January 17, 2005, Ted Ashton Phillips, Jr., husband of Janet Hopkins. Residence: Charleston, S.C. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services on Saturday, January 22, 2005, at two o’clock in St. Philip’s Episcopal Church. Interment will be in Magnolia Cemetery. Friends may call Friday between five and seven o’clock in St. Philip’s Church Ministries Hall.

Mr. Phillips was born November 1, 1959, in Easley, S.C., the son of Ted Ashton Phillips, Sr., and Sarah LaVonne Nalley Phillips. He was a graduate of Porter-Gaud School and served as a page to the late U.S. Sen. Strom Thurmond while in high school. He was a graduate of Harvard College, where he was editor of The Harvard Lampoon, and a graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Law. After serving as a judicial clerk, he worked as a prosecutor for the 9th Circuit before joining the Public Defender’s Office.

A local historian, Mr. Phillips was a biographer of the Charleston artist, West Fraser, and author of a history of Magnolia Cemetery. He was a member of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, the South Carolina Bar, the Albemarle Supper Club, the Brown Fellowship Cemetery Committee, Magnolia Cemetery Trust Board, and the Preservation Society of Charleston Board of Directors. In 1992, he was instrumental in initiating the first constitutional law case challenging the policy of treating pregnant hospital patients as criminal suspects.

He is survived by his wife of Charleston; his parents of Charleston; two daughters, Alice McPherson Phillips and Sarah Parker Phillips, both of Charleston; two brothers, G. Mark Phillips and his wife, Karen, of Charleston, and Al Phillips and his wife, Kathryn, of Charleston; and a sister, Sarah P. Marshall and her husband, Alex, of Charleston.

Bobby Morris

LIBERTY — Funeral services for Bobby will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Liberty Mortuary Chapel by Rev. Larry Cox, Rev. Jimmy Kirby, and Rev. Willie Honea. Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum in Anderson. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m. at the mortuary.

Bobby Malloy Morris, of 5 Sunset Drive, Liberty, husband of Patsy McClain Morris, passed away on Tuesday, January 18, 2005, in Palmetto Health Baptist.

He was a son of the late Ira and Cleo Hiller Morris of Newberry. He was a graduate of Newberry High School, where he played football, baseball, basketball, and was a member of the South Carolina Shrine Bowl Team. He attended Clemson University where he was a member of the 1954 ACC Baseball Championship Team. Following Clemson, he was a member of the Minnesota Twins Minor League Baseball Team for several years. He was formerly Director of Recreation for the City of Liberty, where he managed, coached, and refereed. He also umpired and refereed high school sports. He was a former city council member. He was owner and operator of The Printing Machine.

Mr. Morris was a member of Liberty First Baptist Church, and was a member of the board of directors for the South Carolina Beach Ball Classic in Myrtle Beach, and was also a long time auctioneer in South Carolina.

Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are a daughter, Am M. Simmons and her husband Stuart of Easley; a son, Scott Malloy Morris and his wife Desiree of Greer; five grandchildren, Don S. Simmons, III, Elizabeth McClain Simmons, Brittany Nicole Martinez, Charles W. Morris, and Dylan Malloy Morris; a brother, Thomas Morris of Joanna; a sister, Patricia M. Malone of Anchorage, Alaska.

Harriet Queen

COLUMBIA — Services for Harriet Ellen Moore Queen, 74, will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. Memorials may be made to Carolina Children’s Home.

Mrs. Queen, wife of the late Montgomery Eugene Queen Sr., died Wednesday, January 19, 2005. Born in Tivoli, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Harold William Moore, Sr. and Elizabeth Hattie Jennings Moore. She was a longtime and valued volunteer at Providence Hospital, and was once named “Volunteer of the Year.”

Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law, Montgomery Eugene and Debi Queen, Jr. of Elgin, Frederick Harold and Doris Queen of Germany; daughters and sons-in-law, Ellen and Charles Melton of Columbia, Gay and Denny Newman of Elgin, Sandra and Mike O’Daniel of Columbia, and Emmaline Leach of Columbia; brother, Sanford Moore of Florida; sisters and brothers-in-law, Doris and Harold Warham of New York, and Judith and William Burch of Sumter, S.C.; ten grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Floyd Reidenbach Jr.

COLUMBIA — Floyd Thomas Reidenbach, Jr., 59, a caregiver and self-employed computer product manager, passed into the Lord’s comforting and healing hands on Tuesday, January 18, 2005, after a valiant battle with cancer.

He was born August 10, 1945, in Roanoke, Virginia, to Floyd Thomas Reidenbach, Sr., deceased, and Sarah Catherine Hewitt Reidenbach. Mr. Reidenbach proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.

Surviving are his mother, Sarah Catherine Hewitt Reidenbach; brothers, John Reidenbach, Charleston, and Dixon Reidenbach, West Columbia; son, Christopher Thomas Reidenbach and his wife Sandra Lynn Miller Reidenbach; and daughter, Suzanne Elizabeth Reidenbach, all of Columbia.

The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Asheesh Lal of Lexington Oncology Associates, the 7th and 8th floor nurses at Lexington Medical Center, and Susan Jermstad and Hilary Timmons of Hospice Care of the Tri-County.

Private memorial services for Mr. Reidenbach will be held.
