Born in Florence Co. to Albert Sr. and Juanita Cooper, he died Jan. 18, 2005. Surviving: wife, Mary Alice Graham Cooper; children, Anthony, Randolph Cooper, Pauline Spates, Sylvia Burgess; brother; 3 sisters; 14 grandchildren.

Mose Brown

SCRANTON — Services in Lake City for Mose Brown, 58, noon Friday at St. John UM Church burial in New St. John Church Cemetery, Samuels and Richardson Funeral Home in charge. Born in Williamsburg Co. to Joshua Sr. and Sallie Robinson Brown, he died Jan. 15, 2005. Surviving: wife, Barbara McFadden Brown; 4 sons; 4 daughters; additional children; 7 sisters; 4 brothers; 15 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild.

Ralph Brewer

GREENWOOD — A graveside service for Ralph Brewer, 73, widower of Fannie Mobley Brewer, is 2 p.m. today in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Abbeville. Harley Funeral Home is in charge. The family is at 2208 Montague Ave. #108, Greenwood. Born in Abbeville to Harry and Nellie Davis Brewer, he died Jan. 18, 2005. He had retired from Bloomsburg Mill. Surviving: sister, Seppie Brewer Mobley of Abbeville.

James Burton

CHESTER — Services for James M. Burton, 83, WWII Army veteran, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday (visitation 6-8 p.m. Friday) at Barron Funeral Home with burial in Lando Cemetery. Born in York Co. to A.E. and Rosa Lee Smart Burton, he died Jan. 19, 2005. He was of the Baptist faith. Surviving are wife, Evelyn Hyatt Burton; siblings, Otis, John Burton, Mabel Depompeo; seven grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild.

Betty Davis

VARNVILLE — Services for Betty C. Davis, 56, widow of Roscoe Davis, 2 p.m. Friday at Samaritan Missionary Baptist Church with burial in Ellis Cemetery. Visitation is 7-9 tonight at Washington ’s Funeral Home, Hampton. Born in Varnville to Paul Davis and Anna Cohen, she died Jan. 16, 2005. Surviving: adopted children, Crystal Collins, David Green; siblings, Allean, Daniel Collins, Charles, Charlie Cohen; others.

Bobby Clanton

GREENWOOD — Services for Elbert Bobby Clanton, 55, of Houston, Texas , will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday (visitation 7-9 p.m. Friday) at Harley Funeral Home with burial in Oakbrook Memorial Park. The family is at 1701 E. Durst Avenue. Born in Greenville to Elbert Clanton and Louise Bice Clanton Hunter, he died January 18, 2005. Surviving are his mother; sister, Denise Butler; brother, Larry Clanton.

Mildred Douglas

CHARLESTON — Mildred Googe Douglas, 71, of Charleston Heights, SC, widow of David O. Douglas Sr., passed away 1-18-2005 at her home.

Born April 22, 1933 in Fairfax, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Willie Lee Googe and Virgie Lee Davis Googe. She was a retired banker and devoted homemaker.

A son, David O. Douglas, Jr. and his wife Jill Mahaffey Douglas survive her. Also surviving her are four daughters, Dell Ann Morrison and husband Steve Morrison, Amy E. Douglas, Carol D. Joyner and husband Greg Joyner, and Melinda D. Miller. She has eight grandchildren, Gabrielle Douglas Rabalais, Jonathan Douglas, Emily Douglas, Megan Haupt, Mallory Haupt, Amanda Joyner, Jeremy Miller, and Matthew Miller. She has two great granddaughters, Katelynn Saunders and Ramona Saunders. A sister, Willie Lou Moore and brother Jerry J. Googe survive her. A brother, William M. Googe preceded her in death.

A visitation will be held 6-8 on Thursday, January 20, 2005 at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home, 7113 Rivers Avenue. Funeral Services will be held Friday, January 20, 2005 at 1:00 PM at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home with burial to follow at Carolina Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, Charleston Chapter or the Kidney Foundation of Charleston.

Donald Dickson Sr.

LAKE WATEREE — Services with burial for Donald Leslie Dickson Sr., 68, are 2 p.m. Saturday at Harmony Baptist Church, Edgemoor. Visitation is 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home, Rock Hill. Born in York Co. to Roy Dickson Sr. and Annie Feemster, he died Jan. 18, 2005. Surviving: wife, Joyce Dickson; children, Donna Coleman, Donald Dickson Jr.; sisters, Myra, Anne, Jeanette, Susie; 3 grandchildren.

Norma Drake

MANNING — Services for Norma Mae McElrath Drake, 65, retired cook, will be 11 a.m. today at Stephens Funeral Home with burial in Clarendon Memorial Gardens. Born in Battle Creek, Mich., to Henry and Helen Lanbridge Schaffer, she died Jan. 16, 2005. Surviving: children, Theron Drake, Alice McKenzie; siblings, Rex Stow, Bobby Schaffer, Jackie Grubbs, Norine Drake; 5 grandchildren; 1 stepgrandchild.

Harold Dowling

DENMARK — Services with burial for Harold Dowling, 55, will be held at 2 p.m. today at St. Phillips Church of Christ, Govan. Carroll Mortuary, Denmark Chapel, is in charge. Born to Oscar and Essie Mae Dowling, he died January 15, 2005. He had served in the U.S. Army. Surviving: wife, Betty Peoples Dowling; children, Harold Dowling, Carol Jones; five sisters; two brothers; three grandchildren.

BOWMAN — Services for Mary Frances Fridie, 70, 11 a.m. Saturday (viewing 10 a.m.): Bowman Temple Church of God in Christ. Burial: Pineville UMC Cemetery. Glover’s Funeral Home, Orangeburg is in charge. Born in Bowman to Dave Moorer Jr. and Ada M. Funchess, she died Jan. 15, 2005. Surviving: children, William Jr., Wanda, Brenda, Carolina, Patsy, Phyllis, Marilyn, Barbara, Christine, Larry.

Ethel Gordon

HARTSVILLE — Services for Ethel Gordon are 2 p.m. today at Hines Funeral Home with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery. She was born in Clarendon Co. to Theodore and Emily Scott Gordon. She had worked at Bloomingdale’s in New York. Surviving: sister, Willard James; nieces, Wilhemenia Davis, Inetta Samuel, Emily Gentry, Patricia Lark; nephews, Marshall James, Harden James Jr.; others.

Laura Gulledge

RUBY — Mrs. Laura Cleo Jordan Gulledge, 91, died Tuesday, January 18, 2005, in Huntersville Oaks Nursing Home. She was born to Charlie Z and Nora Steen Jordan on April 18, 1913, in Mt. Croghan, SC. She was a graduate of Ruby High School. She married Fred H. Gulledge and was the mother of four children. Her only daughter, Louise Gulledge Lee, preceded her in death and she was also preceded in death by her husband, a granddaughter, two brothers, and three sisters. Mrs. Gulledge was a homemaker, a member of Cross Roads Baptist Church, and a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

She is survived by three sons, Samuel Gulledge of Kannapolis and Terrell, NC, Vinson Gulledge of Kannapolis, NC, and Van Gulledge of Columbia, SC. Also surviving are one sister, Katie Brady of Cayce, SC, 7 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be conducted at Cross Roads Baptist Church, Friday, January 21, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. The casket will be placed in the Church Sanctuary for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Cross Roads Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the interment in the Church Fellowship Hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cross Roads Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 4963 Cross Roads Church Road, Ruby, SC 29741.

Walter Keisler

LEESVILLE — Services for Walter Paul Keisler, 80, will be conducted 3 p.m. Saturday at Wittenberg Lutheran Church with the Rev. Michael Sherman officiating. Entombment with Masonic Rites will follow in Christ the Good Shepherd Mausoleum at Ridge Crest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Barr-Price Funeral Home, Historic B-L Chapel. Memorials may be made to Wittenberg Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 3447, B-L, SC 29070 or the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210.

Mr. Keisler died Tuesday, January 18, 2005. Born in Leesville a son of the late Dr. David and Frances Hutto Keisler. He was a 50 year member of the B-L Masonic Lodge, a Marine veteran of WWII, a member of Wittenberg Lutheran Church, and retired from the U.S. Postal Service with 41 years of service.

Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law, Kellie (Matt) K. Peebles of Wallace, NC, and Karla (Johnny) K. Powell of Leesville; brother, William Keisler of Leesville; grandchildren, Alicia Powell and Melissa Peebles. He was predeceased by his wife Nellie M. Keisler; brother, David Keisler; sisters, Pauline Aull, Florence Lucas, Grace Buck, Mary Kamman.

Joe Hentz

NEWBERRY — Services for Joe Eddie Hentz, 74, will be held at noon today (viewing 11 a.m.) at Antioch Baptist Church with burial in Werts Cemetery. Wilson Funeral Home is in charge. Born in Newberry to Colie and Marie Cannon Hentz, he died Jan. 14, 2005. He had retired from Spartan Grain Company. Surviving: wife, Carrie Young Hentz; sister, Estelle White; nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters/brothers-in-law.

Willie Setzler

PITTSBURGH, Pa. — Services with burial for Willie Setzler, 75, will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Saint James AME Church, Pomaria, S.C. Wilson Funeral Home, Newberry, S.C., is in charge. Born in Newberry Co., S.C., to Hayward Setzler and Margaree Ruff Cromer, he died Jan. 14, 2005. Surviving: siblings, Otis Jr., Larry, Charles and Narvis Cromer, Shirley Wicker, Martha Livingston, Patricia Counts; nieces, nephews, in-laws.
