Wake is 7-8 tonight: Marshel’s Wright-Donaldson Home for Funerals, Beaufort. Born in Beaufort Co. to John Sr. and Mary Smalls, he died Jan. 17, 2005. Surviving: wife, Elizabeth; children, Willie, Helen, Betty, Margaret, Rosa; siblings; grandchildren; great-grandchildren.

Frank Spoon

ORANGEBURG — Services for Frank “Dan” Spoon, 43, are 2 p.m. Friday (visitation 7-9 tonight) at Dukes-Harley Funeral Home with burial in Crestlawn Memorial Gardens. Born in Charleston to Joseph Spoon and Angela Brown McGlothlin, he died Jan. 18, 2005. Surviving: parents; daughter, Nicki Spoon; brothers, Donald, David, Chambliss Spoon; grandparents, Frank and Bonnie Spoon; uncles, aunts; others.

Louise Terry

PAGELAND — Services for Louise Terry, 89, will be 11 a.m. today at Sutton Funeral Home with burial in Providence Baptist Church. Born in Pageland to Baron and Lena Rushing, she died Jan. 18, 2005. She had retired as a weaver from Springs Industries. Surviving: son, Max Terry; sister, Hazel Smith; grandchildren, Cathy Melton, William Terry; great-grandchildren, Katherine and Justin Terry.

John Warr

ALLENDALE — Private memorial services for John W. Warr will be held at a later date.

Born in Florence to Hazel and Le Claire W. Warr Sr.

He was self-employed.

Surviving are a brother Hazel (June) Warr Jr. of Darlington, an aunt Evelyn (Julian) Stroman of Orangeburg, 2 uncles Edwin (Donna) Williams of Allendale. Gene (Thelma) of Santee and 2 nieces.

Smith-Rhoden Funeral Home of Allendale are in charge of arrangements.

Samuel Brown

COLUMBIA — Services for Samuel Brown are 2 p.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church with burial in Serenity Memorial Gardens. Viewing is 2:30-8:30 tonight. Pearson’s Funeral Home is in charge. Born in Richland Co. to Benjamin and Lillie Bell Brown, he died Jan. 17, 2005. Surviving: siblings, Mamie Counts, Nathaniel, Benjamin, James, Frank, Benzina, Lillie Bell Brown, Dorothy Huyes, Francis Jenkins.

Charles Carter

NORTH AUGUSTA — Services for Charles Carter, 82, DuPont retiree, WWII vet, 2 pm Friday (visitation 6-8 tonight): Rowland Funeral Home. Burial: Pineview Memorial Park. Born in Aiken Co. to Charles and Susan Willis Carter, he died Jan. 19, 2005. Surviving: wife, Helen Taylor Carter; sons, Bob, Craig, John; sisters, Christine Martin, Margaret Carter, Frances Harris; grands, Taylor Carter, Al Hadden III.

Pearl Christie

EDGEFIELD — A graveside service for Pearl Chrisco Christie, 81, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Berea Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation is 6-8 tonight at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home. She died January 19, 2005. Surviving are her son, Glenn Christie; 2 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; siblings, Dot Cheek, Frances Rogers, J.D., Ernest, Ben, Joe Chrisco.

Willie Hannah

LAKE CITY — Services for Willie L. Hannah, 56, 2 p.m. Saturday: Good News Deliverance Temple Holiness Church with burial in Byrd Cemetery, Scranton, directed by Green’s Funeral Home. Born in Olanta to Johnny Hannah and Lena Brown, he died Jan. 10, 2005. Surviving: wife, Barbara; daughters, Ramonia, Reyona; siblings, Allie Moore, Joyce Williams, Billie Ann Burgess, Lena Mae Douglas, Charlie Redden.

Debra Covington

PAGELAND — A memorial service for Debra Rose Covington, 43, daughter of the late Clifton and Ruth Jean Twyman Rose, will be held at 6 tonight at Flemming Funeral Home chapel. She died January 15, 2005 Surviving is her brother, Clifton (Melinda) Rose.

Joye Still

NORTH — Joye Connelly Still, 63, of North, died Tuesday, January 18, 2005.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 21, 2005, at First Baptist Church of North with Rev. Larry Shull officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. The casket will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.

Ms. Still was born in North, a daughter of the late John William and Edrie Yon Connelly. She was a member of First Baptist Church of North, where she was the church organist for 45 years. She had retired from the S.C. Vocational Rehabilitation Service and Connelly Flower Shop. She was a past matron of the Cayce chapter #260 Order of the Eastern Star. She was a humble servant of the Lord.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law: Kimberly and Randy Rigney of Orangeburg; a son, Ike Still of North; a sister and brother-in-law: Faye and Harold Simmons of Cayce; two brothers and sisters-in-law: James William “Billy” and Dolores Connelly of Prosperity, and Donald and Star Connelly of North; a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Culler-McAlhany Funeral Home and other times at the home, 316 Stafford Avenue, North.

Willadine Taylor

MULLINS — Mrs. Willadine Thomas Taylor, 87, widow of Askins Worth Taylor, died Wednesday, January 19, 2005, in Marion County Medical Center after an illness.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 21, in Watson Cemetery, with the Rev. George Gany and the Rev. Laura Gasque officiating. The services will be directed by Cox-Collins Funeral Home.

Mrs. Taylor, a lifelong resident of Marion County, was born June 13, 1917, a daughter of the late Jesse Rupert Thomas and the late Ora Roberts Thomas. She was a retired teacher and homemaker. Mrs. Taylor taught in the Marion County and Dillon County schools and retired from Dillon High School. She was a graduate of Zion High School and a graduate of Columbia College. Mrs. Taylor was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church.

Surviving Mrs. Taylor are: a Son: Alvin Askins Taylor and his wife Marion of Charleston; 2 Grandchildren: Lee Worth Taylor and Ann Wyatt Taylor; and 3 Special Nieces: Patsy McRae and her husband Billy of Mullins, Robbie White of Mullins and Rena Agnew and her husband Al of Mullins.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 4 til 7 p.m. at Mrs. Taylor’s home at 4176 N. Hwy. 41-A in the Zion Community.

Spencer Simpson III

LANCASTER — Services for Spencer Alexander Simpson III, 50, self-employed contractor, member of Calvary Baptist Church, will be at 11 a.m. Friday (visitation 5-7 tonight) at Hartley Funeral Home with burial in Lancaster Memorial Park. Born in Monroe, N.C., to Leona Polston and Spencer Simpson Jr., he died Jan. 18, 2005. Surviving are mother; wife, Sylvia Melton Simpson; son, Jay Herring; sister, Marlyn Jamison.

Douglas Sanders

NEW YORK — Services for Douglas McArthur “Doug” Sanders, 3 p.m. today at Christopher King’s Funeral Home, Chester, S.C., with burial in Zion Pilgrim Baptist Church (where he was a member) Cemetery. Born in Chester to George and Earlene Wright Sanders, he died Jan. 13, 2005. Surviving are his mother; siblings, Rev. Frank, Edward, Hazel, Lady; aunt, Hattie; uncle, Bobby. Family is at 107 Murry St., Chester.

Henry Simon

COLUMBIA — Services for Mr. Henry Lee Simon of 2624 Windy Drive, Columbia will be held 2 p.m. today at True Vine Outreach Ministries, Eastover with burial in Daughter of Zion Church Cemetery. Leevy’s Funeral Home, Taylor Street Chapel is in charge. Surviving are his son, Calvin Simon; aunt, Pandora Moye; 2 brothers; 5 sisters; a devoted friend, Chesteine Shell; grandchildren; great-grandchildren.

Hubert Nations

WEST COLUMBIA — Services for Hubert Hoyt Nations, 92, of West Columbia will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Greenlawn Funeral Home with entombment in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 12 noon until 1 p.m. at Greenlawn Funeral Home before the service. Greenlawn Funeral Home is in charge.

Mr. Nations died Wednesday, January 19, 2005, in NHC Healthcare in West Columbia. Born in Fayette County, Georgia, he was a son of Leona Lynch Nations and Franklin Asbury Nations. He retired from Springs Mills and worked for many years as a textile worker in the Pacific Mills in Columbia. His most recent work was for Central News of Columbia. He was a member of Kittie Wake Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife Louise R. Nations of West Columbia, daughters Phyllis Coppedge of Kershaw, South Carolina, Betty Warren of Chesapeake, Virginia, and Gloria Burnside of West Columbia. He was predeceased by a son Albert E. Smith, Sr., and brothers George Nation, Ralph Nation, Lee Nation and one sister Ida Farr.

He was a loving, kind grandfather to 13 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and a wonderful uncle to his nephews.
