Susie Crim

LEXINGTON — Services for Susie “Granny” Lee Crim, 82, will be held at 2pm Monday in Laurel Baptist Church, conducted by Reverend Steve Kittrell, with burial at Celestial Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Eddie Crim, David Crim, Jeff Boley, Randy Boley, Frankie Clark, Tony Leaphart, Steve McIver and Clint Watts. Honorary Pallbearers will be all co-workers of Cayce Chapter 1528 and Cayce 462 members. Memorials may be made to Laurel Baptist Church, 2250 Pine St., West Columbia, SC 29170. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8pm Sunday at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington.

Mrs. Crim, widow of Joseph Lambert Crim, died Friday, January 21, 2005. Born in Lexington County, she was a daughter of the late Lee Andrew and Francis Rish Spires. A lifetime resident, she was a member of Laurel Baptist Church and retired from Lexington Blouse of West Columbia. Mrs. Crim was a member of the Chapter 1528 WOTM of Cayce.

Surviving are her daughters, Elizabeth Ann Witcher of St. Matthews and Shirley Jean Wessinger of Lexington; son and daughter-in-law, Bobby Lee and Louise Crim of Lexington; 7 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews and friends.

Mrs. Crim was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters.

Arthur Nazzery Jr.

HOPKINS — Services for Arthur “Bo Dilly” “Bay” Nazzery Jr., 67, are 1 p.m. Monday (viewing at noon) at New Zion Benevolent Baptist Church; burial in St. Matthews Baptist Church Cemetery. Leevy’s Funeral Home is in charge. Surviving: sons, Leonard Sr., Anthony Nazzery; siblings, Seymour Sr., Henry Nazzery Sr., Eliza Harris, Bertha Manning and Hattie Nazzery; grandchildren.

Bruce Vaughan Sr.

St. GEORGE — Chief Bruce Keels Vaughan, Sr., U.S. Navy (Ret.), 83 of 105 Behling Street, St. George died Saturday January 22, 2005 in Summerville at the home of his son.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday in Bryant Funeral Home Chapel; burial with Military Honors will be follow in the St. George Cemetery.

Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Bryant Funeral Home, St. George, SC.

Mr. Vaughan was born July 30, 1921 in Ridgeville a son of the late Samuel Dunwoody Vaughan and Jeffie Keels Vaughan. He retired from the US Navy as a Chief Fire Control Technician having served during WW II and the Korean Conflict; he also retired from the Charleston Navel Shipyard. He was a member of American Legion Post 105 in St. George, a Methodist and an avid Outdoorsman. He was the widower of Bessie Thompson Vaughan and was predeceased by a son Steven T. Vaughan.

Surviving; three sons, Bruce Keels Vaughan, Jr. and his wife, Essie of Leland, NC; Samuel (Dickie) Vaughan, and his wife Gale of Knightsville, SC, Anthony C. (Tony) Vaughan, St. George; a daughter, Robin Rene Hanna, Warrensville, SC; a brother, Samuel Dunwoody (Don) Vaughan, Summerville, SC; a sister, Sylvia V. Gross, Hanahan, SC. 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Carrie Wylie

COLUMBIA — Funeral services for Mrs. Carrie Moore Wylie, 79, of Columbia, will be held at 11 o’clock Monday morning, January 24, 2005, at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, officiated by The Reverend John Trump. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 o’clock prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, 1416 Broad River Road, Columbia, SC 29210 or to the charity of one’s choice. Shives Funeral Home is in charge.

Mrs. Wylie died Friday, January 21, 2005. Born in Lincolnton, GA, she was a daughter of the late James Earnest and Nellie Boddie Moore. She was an employee of General Electric for 25 years, retiring in 1985. Mrs. Wylie was a longtime member of St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church.

Survivors include: her husband of 50 years, Henry A. Wylie; daughters, Deborah Wylie Harwell of Columbia, Anne Redmond Rodgers of Nashville, TN and son, Stephen Allan Wylie of Columbia, sisters, Mary Lillian Bohler, Jessie Anderson and Alma Reynolds, all of Greenwood; grandchildren, Briscoe Rodgers of Boston, Mass., Caroline Rodgers and Jennifer Rodgers of Nashville, TN, Tre’ Wylie and Jeremy Harwell.

Verona Lever

COLUMBIA — Funeral service for Mrs. Verona Lever, 100, of Columbia, will be held 1 o’clock Monday afternoon, January 24, 2005, in Fair Lawn United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3 until 5 o’clock this (Sunday) afternoon in Shives Funeral Home. Serving as Pallbearers will be Tommy Lever, John Lever, J. Bruce Siron, Wayne Siron, Donald Siron, Daniel Siron and Brian Dixon. Memorials may be made to Lutheran Hospice, 1505 Blanding St., Columbia, SC 29201 or to Fair Lawn United Methodist Church, 9203 Wilson Blvd., Columbia, SC 29203.

Mrs. Lever, widow of Wilton Dozier Lever, died Saturday, January 22, 2005. Born February 10, 1904, in Richland County, SC, she was a daughter of the late John Thomas and Sallie Nancy Lever Ballentine. She was a retired employee of Ray Lever’s Bar B Que. Mrs. Lever was a Charter member of Fair Lawn United Methodist Church, the Faith Bible Sunday School Class and a Charter member of Women’s Missionary Society.

Survivors include: son, Dozier Lever and his wife, Eudora of Columbia, daughters, Sarah Mae Freeman and her husband, Melvin, and Carolyn Siron and her husband, Donald, all of Blythewood; 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. The family wishes to give special thanks to Magnolia Manor, Providence NE (2nd Floor - 400 Wing) and the Lutheran Hospice.

Woodrow Motley

CHARLESTON — Entered into eternal rest on the evening of January 20, 2005, Woodrow Wilson Motley, husband of Reece McCraw Busby Motley. Residence, Charleston, SC. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Wilson Motley are invited to attend the funeral services of the former, Monday, January 24, 2005 at eleven o’clock in Citadel Square Baptist Church. Interment, Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Downtown Chapel, Sunday between five and seven o’clock.

Mr. Motley was born July 30, 1914 in Richland County, South Carolina, the son of the late Tally William Motley and Lucy Moore Motley. He was a member of Citadel Square Baptist Church, where he was active in his Sunday School Class for many years. He was also a member of Woodmen of the World. Mr. Motley served with the U.S. Coast Guard and for many years operated an Amoco gas station in North Charleston, and currently worked for Motley Rice Law Firm in Mt. Pleasant, SC.

He is survived by his wife of Charleston; one son: Ronald Lee Motley of Charleston, SC; one daughter: Susan J. Motley of North Charleston, SC; one granddaughter: Jennifer Motley Lee of Philadelphia, PA; two great grandchildren: Hutch and Eliza Lee of Philadelphia, PA; one sister: Doris M. Byars of Columbia, SC and several nieces and nephews.

He was first married to the late Carrie Griffin Motley, and is predeceased by a son, Mark Wilson Motley and a grandson, Mark Elliott Motley.

Muriel Browne

JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. — Muriel Marguarite Browne, 88, of Jacksonville Beach, died peacefully, January 21, 2005 at Baptist Medical Center-Beaches. She was born August 9, 1916 in Brooklyn, N.Y. and moved to Jacksonville in 1990 from Cayce, S.C.

She was an artist, pianist and a Christian Scientist. She worked many years for the Shanandoah National Bank and the Whitehouse Company of Berryville, Virginia.

Family members include her niece, Barbara Wessinger of Aiken, S.C.; nephew, Jerry Browne of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; 2 great nephews; 2 great nieces; 2 great great-nephews and 1 great great-niece.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday (today), January 23rd in the Chapel of Quinn-Shalz, A Family Funeral Home, with Ruth Martin, Christian Science Reader, officiating. Interment will be in Celestial Gardens Cemetery of West Columbia, S.C.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida.

Services under the direction and care of Quinn-Shalz, A Family Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, Jacksonville Beach, FL, 904-249-1100.

Lillie Collins

ORANGEBURG — Mrs. Lillie Mae Stroman Collins, 92, died Friday.

Funeral services are 1:00 P.M. Monday, Jan. 24, 2005 at Northgate Baptist Church in Orangeburg, with burial in Bowman Memorial Cemetery. Visitation: 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Sunday at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in Orangeburg.

Survivors: 2 daughters, Norine Green of Chesapeake, VA, Faye Brill of Orangeburg; 4 sons, A.L. Collins, Jr. of North Charleston, Gyles Collins of Kenedy, TX, Woodrow Collins of Sicily, Italy, Maxcie Collins of Dallas, GA; 1 sister, Azalee Rast of Bowman; 1 brother, Arthur Stroman of Kingsville, TX; 21 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren; a special caregiver and granddaughter, Kaye Byrd of Orangeburg.

Memorials: Northgate Baptist Church; 850 Woodbine Street, Orangeburg, SC 29115.

Dorothy McAlhany

BANCHVILLE — Mrs. Dorothy P. McAlhany, 73 years of age, of 741 Ott St. died Friday, January 21, 2005 at her resident.

Mrs. McAlhany was born in Orangeburg Co., a daughter of the late Archie Wesley McAlhany and Pansy P. McAlhany. She was a graduate of the Branchville School System, retired from the Weathers Farm in Bowman, and a life long resident of the community.

Graveside services will be conducted Sunday, January 23, at 4:00 P.M. at the McAlhany Cemetery near Branchville with the Rev. Jerry Thompson officiating.

Survived by one nephew, Mr. Robert Folk of Beaufort, and one niece, Mrs. Nita Folk Crosby of Yemassee.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Friends may call at the resident of Patsy Hendricks, 225 Dorange Rd.

Ott Funeral Home of Branchville is in charge of arrangements.
