Pearl Rose

GREENWOOD — Pearl Price Veal Rose, age 71, of 113 Hagood Rd. died Saturday, January 22nd in the Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood.

Born in Williamsburg, SC she was a daughter of the late Simon and Ruth Brown Price.

Mrs. Rose was a retired employee of Whitten Center, was of the Baptist faith and a member of the VFW of Laurens Ladies Auxiliary.

Surviving are her husband, John Rose of the home; son, Jack Veal of Irmo; daughters, Becky Veal Petty of Clinton and Diane Massengale of Woodruff; step-daughters, Jerri Rowe of Greenwood, Karen Keitler of Maryland; 10 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her brother, Gene Price.

Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 25th at Gray Funeral Home Chapel of Clinton.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family will be at the home of her grandson, J.W. Veal, 108 Reames St., Laurens.

Joshua Wright

HARTSVILLE — Funeral services for Joshua Colby Wright, age 10, who died Jan. 21, 2005 will be held Monday, Jan. 24, at 3:00 from The First Church Of The Nazarene. Revs. Darryl Bogatay, Gregg Griffin, and John Griggs will officiate. Burial will be in the Magnolia Cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Sunday 3-5pm at the funeral home.

Colby was born in Florence County, the son of Mitchell and Tammy Froese Wright. He was a 5th grade student in Mrs. Adams class at Robert E. Lee, member of The First Church Of The Nazarene, member of 2004 Hartsville National 9 and 10 year old All Star Baseball Team. He loved hunting, fishing, and riding motorcycles.

Surviving are his parents of the home. Brother: Brantley Wright and Custodial Sister, Jenna Fields, both of Hartsville. Paternal Grandparents: Sammy and Margaret Wright Cranford, Hartsville. Maternal Grandparents: Kenneth and Gay Froese Ciuffetelli, Hartsville. Maternal Great Grandparents: Betty Vulliety, Poplarville, MS. Faye and Allen Froese, Houston, TX. Maternal Great Great Grandparent: Bea “Momma B” Atwood, Poplarville, MS. Several Aunts and Uncles. A very special friend, Preston Lane. Predeceased by Paternal Grandfather: Ernest Wright, and Maternal Grandfather: Tex Froese.

Memorials may be made to the First Church of The Nazarene Building Fund, 1909 W. BoBo Newsom Highway, Hartsville, SC 29550

Earle Celley Sr.

WILLISTON — Services for Earle Daniel Celley, Sr., 66, will be held at 6:00 P.M. Monday, January 24, 2005 at the Folk Funeral Home Chapel in Williston. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until the time of services Monday, at the funeral home.

Born in Lynn, Massachusetts, he was a son of the late Daniel E. Celley and Catherine Murchie Celley. He formerly worked for Dixie Narco in Williston and was a U.S. Navy veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Nell Celley: daughters, Dorinda C. Burnette, Libbie Boyleston, Debbie Phillips, Terry Pruitt, Belinda Osman; sons, Earle D. “Chip” Celley, Jr. and Scot Douglas Celley; sisters, Betty Reed, Judy Burk; brothers, Ronald Celley; 16 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Dennis Celley.

John Orrock

RUTHER GLEN, Va. — John Henry Orrock, 59, of Ruther Glen, died January 18, 2005. He is survived by his mother, Lucy T. Orrock; his wife, Emaleen Corley Kneece Orrock; three stepsons, Daniel Kneece of Los Angeles, Dr. Robert Kneece of New Orleans, and Steve Kneece of Newberry, South Carolina; one grandson, Vikram Kneece of New Orleans; one brother, Richard Orrock; and one sister, Peggy Brockmeier.

John graduated from Hermitage High School and Virginia Commonwealth University and attended Armstrong College in Savannah, Georgia. He served in the U.S. Army and was employed by Chem-Nuclear for many years.

The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Bliley Funeral Homes’ Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Road, where services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday. Interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Karen Adams

PELION — Services for Karen Beavers Adams, 54, will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday. Graveside in Beaver Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Neeses. Mrs. Adams died Friday, January 21, 2005. Born in Avondale WV, a daughter of Ann L. Coleman Beavers and the late Everett Beavers. She was a housewife and of the Pentecostal faith.

Surviving are her husband, Robert M. Adams; a son, Robert M. Adams, II of West Columbia; a daughter Terrylee Jackson of Haleyville, AL; her mother of Pelion; brothers, George Beaver, III of West Columbia, Teddy R. Beavers of Brockton, MA, Charles E. and Archie L. Beavers, Sr., of Pelion; sisters, Shirley A. Callahan of Pelion, Peggy S. Ritter of Dames Quarters, MD; 3 grandchildren.

William Ravan

NEWBERRY — Services for William Luke Ravan will be 3 PM Tuesday at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Monday from 6- 7:30 PM at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to The Gift of Life Trust Fund, 1101 Caldwell Street, Newberry, 29108.

Mr. Ravan, 19, died Jan. 22, 2005. Born in Newberry, Mr. Ravan was the son of Ricky Wayne Ravan and Kay McComb Ravan of Newberry. He was a second year student at Piedmont Technical College and was employed by Jodie Dominick Lawn Care.

He is survived in addition to his parents of Newberry by a sister Crystal Robertson of Phoenix, AZ, maternal grand parents; William and Julia McComb of Charleston and Paternal grandparents, Thomas E. “Buddy” and Helen Ravan of Prosperity.

Dennis Ford

BEAVER, Pa. — Dennis E. Ford, age 55, of Beaver died on January 22, 2005 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born on June 27, 1949 in Beaver Falls, PA, he is the son of Hope S. Ford of Hinsdale, IL and the late Martin Ford. Dennis was a sales manager and manufacturer’s representative for I.S.A. and other companies. He was a member of SS Peter and Paul Church. He graduated from Beaver H.S., attended Univ. of Nebraska, then transferred to the Univ. of South Carolina where he played football. While at U.S.C., he received numerous player honors including; All-State, All-South, Honorable Mention All-American and the Black Jacob’s Award. After serving as a Graduate Assistant at U.S.C., he joined the staff as an Assistant Coach for nearly 15 years.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by two sons; Travis and Carter Ford, both of Alparetta, GA; a brother, Terrance (Carol) Ford of Burke, VA; a sister, Ginny (John) Keiser of Hinsdale, IL; one niece, Maggie Ford of Greensboro, NC; four nephews, Capt. Christopher Ford, US Army in Bagdad, Second Lieut. Matthew Ford of Ft. Rucker, AL, Timothy and Patrick Keiser of Hinsdale, IL.

Friends will be received on Monday, January 24, 2005, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at The JT Anderson Funeral Home, 205 College Ave., Beaver, www.jtanderson.com. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at SS Peter and Paul RC Church on Tuesday, January 25, 2005 at 10:00 am with Mgsr William Ogrodowski, officiating.

Sam Skeens

COLUMBIA — A graveside service for Sam Arnold Skeens, 72, U.S. Army Korean and Vietnam War veteran, is 4 p.m. (visitation 2-3:30 p.m.) Monday at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Greenlawn Funeral Home is in charge. He died Jan. 22, 2005. He was retired from Ft. Jackson as Assistant Foreman of Roads and Grounds. Surviving: wife, Mathilde Skeens; daughter, Sandra Byrd; 2 grandchildren; 7 sisters; 2 brothers.

Alice White

BENNETTSVILLE — Mrs. Alice Memory Chappelear White, 80, died Saturday, January 22, 2005. Born December 21, 1924, in Bennettsville, a daughter of the late Claude W. and Rachel Howell Chappelear. Mrs. White was a retired Executive Secretary with Emerson Electric and a former Executive Secretary for the County Manager of Marlboro County. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene and was married to the late Orrin White.

Surviving are: brothers, Claude W. Chappelear, (Nina), of Charlotte, Jack H. Chappelear, of Cheraw, Hugh Edward Chappelear, (Lib), of Bennettsville; a sister, Betty Gibbs, (Billy), of Florence; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, James W. Chappelear.

Services will be held at 2 pm Tuesday at the First Church of the Nazarene. Entombment will follow in Chatham Hills Cemetery in Cheraw. Visitation is 1-2 pm Tuesday at the church. Memorials may be made to the First Church of the Nazerene, 212 Beauty Spot East, Bennettsville, SC 29512 or a charity of one’s choice.

Arnold Thompson

COLUMBIA — Service for Arnold J. Thompson, 87, will be held Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Greenlawn Baptist Church with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the church. Visitation will be Monday 5-7 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.

Mr. Thompson died Saturday, January 22, 2005. Born in New Brunswick, N.J., he was the son of the late David Martin Thompson and Elizabeth Deckert Thompson. An Army veteran of WWII, he served with the 77th Infantry Division, 302nd Medical Battalion and retired after thirty-four years with the Dorn VA Hospital.

Mr. Thompson was a member of Greenlawn Baptist Church and Business Men’s Sunday School Class.

Surviving are his wife of sixty years, Alice Rabon Thompson; son and daughter-in-law, John D. and Melanie Thompson of Columbia; daughters, Mary A. Bacon and her husband, Craig, and Lila T. Atkinson, all of Columbia; sisters, Neil Sgroi of New Brunswick, N.J., Chris Schmidt of Milltown, N. J. and Sophie Thompson of Gulfport, Fla.; grandchildren, Joey, Ryan, Jeremy, Stephanie and Heather Thompson, Erin Daniels, and LiAnne and her husband, Joey Crosby; great-grandchildren, Carlee and Victoria Crosby; and many nieces and nephews.
