Lila Riley

SWANSEA — The funeral service for Ms. Lila Mae “Barbara” Riley, 62, of Swansea will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2004 at Prodigal A.M.E. Church near Swansea with the Rev. Patrick B. Mellerson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Ms. Riley died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004.

She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of Mrs. Almener Riley and the late Mr. Leafus Riley, Sr.

Survivors include two sons, Kenneth (Sheila) Riley of West Columbia and Keith Riley of the home; a daughter, Ms. Donna Riley of the home; her mother of the home; two brothers, Deacon Charles Lee (Patricia) Riley and Mr. Wade Hampton Riley both of Swansea; a sister, Ms. Albertha Whetstone of Swansea; and two grandchildren, Delvin and Justin Riley both of West Columbia.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2, at W.B. Crumel Funeral Home of North.

Friends may call at the residence and at the funeral home.

Blondell Bickley

CHAPIN — Graveside services for Janie Blondell Bickley, 69, were held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, November 1, 2004 at Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church. Memorials may be made to: The Shriner’s Children’s Hospital, 950 West Faris Rd., Greenville, SC 29605.

Mrs. Bickley died Thursday, October 28, 2004. Born in Gilbert, SC, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd V. and Rosa Lee Hallman. She was a member of Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church, Little Mtn. Eastern Star, Rebecca Circle at Mt. Horeb, Whiterock Ladies Auxillery and TOPS SC #118. She was the owner and operator of Blondies Florist in Chapin.

She is survived by her daughters, Janie Bickley Aslund of Lexington and Melony Bickley Bosdell of VA.; son, Joel Bickley of Houston, TX; sister, Shelby Long of Leesville; brother, Lloyd Hallman of Gilbert and five grandchildren.

Holland Nimmons

COLUMBIA — A private committal service for Holland McTeer Nimmons, Jr. will be held on Wednesday, November 3 and a service to celebrate Holland McTeer Nimmons, Jr.’s life will be held at 12:00 p.m. at Centennial Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church with a reception to follow at the church where family and friends may gather in fellowship and remembrance. Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Irmo Chapel is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Centennial Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, 413 Laurel St., Columbia, SC 29201 or American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the John A. Bigham Men’s Bible Class, Church Deacons, and Elders of the church.

Mr. Nimmons entered his glory, Sunday, October 31, 2004 in Columbia, surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of the late Holland McTeer and Leila Mae Nimmons, Sr. He attended Brookland Cayce High School and was a Marine Corps veteran. He was retired from thirty-five years with E.I. Dupont in Camden, SC. He was a faithful member of Centennial ARP Church where he was secretary of the John Bigham Men’s Bible Class, a Deacon and Elder. He was a Master Mason at Broad River Masonic Lodge #377. Mr. Nimmons enjoyed volunteering at Lexington Hospital, was an avid hunter and fisherman and a member of the Mid-Carolina Bassmasters Association.

He was a man with a gentle heart, strong convictions, with a great love and appreciation for his wife, children, grandchildren and the outdoors.

He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy C. Nimmons; sons and daughters-in-law, Mark Stephen and Cathyrene L. Nimmons and Michael Brady and Angela Rea Nimmons; daughters and sons-in-law, Debi N. and Richard Allen Flippo Sr., and Gina N. and Pete Badendick. He was a loving grandfather to Ashley Marie, Angela Nicole and Richard Allen Flippo, Jr., Jennifer Michell Peeples, Stephen Hunter Nimmons, Jr., and Hanna Marie Nimmons; step-grandchildren, Christian Freeman, Brandon Morris, Katrina Freeman, Krystal Lane Badendick and E.C. Badendick, III; brother, Johnson King Nimmons; sister, Jaqualine Nimmons Watts.

The family expresses deep gratitude and loving care for the exceptional medical care filled with compassion and understanding of Dr. Leland McElveen, his nurses and staff at SC Oncology and Associates and to the staff on the 8th floor of Baptist Medical Center.

James Miles

COLUMBIA — James Miles, passed on Friday, October 29, 2004, at the Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held 2:00PM Wednesday, November 3, 2004 at the Simmon Ridge Baptist Church with the Rev. Alex Williams, Pastor and Elder Frank Sandford, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday 5pm-7pm at the Funeral Home.

Survivors include: His wife, Tanja M. Miles of the home, three children, Christopher K. Miles, Kryshinda J. Miles and Chenia Y. Miles all of the home, a grandchild, Ayanna J. Miles, his father, James T. Miles, and two sisters, Sandra (Freddie) Ross, and Debra Miles. Amos & Sons Funeral Home, Johnston.

Nadine Brant

COLUMBIA — Services for Mrs. Nadine Elizabeth Smith Brant, of 529 Antioch Place, will be held 2 pm Wednesday at New Day Baptist Church, with burial in Jerusalem Baptist Church Cemetery, Hopkins, SC. Visitation is 6:00 pm today at Palmer Memorial Chapel.

Mrs. Brant died Thursday, October 28, 2004. Born in Columbia, she was the daughter of Mary Hennagan Smith and Hilliard Smith.

Surviving are her children, Nicole Dionne Brant, Donnie Lee Brant, Jr. and Nathan Eli Brant; her mother (Rudolph) of Columbia; her father of Hopkins; a sister, Lethetta Ball; brother, James H. Smith; granddaughter, Kaitllyn M. Lawver.

Dorothy Joyner

WEST COLUMBIA — Services for Dorothy Naomi Geiger Joyner, 87, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 3, 2004 at Central Church of the Nazarene with burial to follow in Southland Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Joyner will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 2, 2004 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. Memorials may be made to: American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210 or Alzheimer’s Association, Mid-State Chapter, PO Box 7044, Columbia, SC 29202-7044.

Mrs. Joyner widow of Roscoe B. Joyner, Sr., died Monday, November 1, 2004. Born in Charleston, SC, she was the daughter of the late Owens Carl and Elizabeth Ferguson Geiger. She was a charter member of Cayce Church of the Nazarene and a member of Central Church of the Nazarene and attended there faithfully until her health declined.

She is survived by her son, Roscoe Benjamin “R.B.” (Anita) Joyner, Jr. of Prosperity, SC; daughter, Margie Joyner (Richard) Jeffcoat of Lexington, SC; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Emily Browder and Sarah Moore of Elloree, SC; brother, James Geiger of Honey Hill, SC; and husband, Harold Harmon of South Congaree, SC. She was preceded in death by her grandsons, Greg Michael Dove and Carl Joyner; brothers, Robert, George and O.C. Geiger Jr.

Harold Cottle Sr.

GREENWOOD — Services for Harold C. Cottle Sr., 73, 2 p.m. Wednesday (visitation 7-9 tonight) at Harley Funeral Home; burial 2 p.m. Thursday in Pine Hill Memorial Park, Talladega, Ala. Born in Talladega to Israel Cortez and Louella Winslett Cottle, he died Nov. 1, 2004. He was a Korean veteran and retired plant manager of Moore Business Farms. Surviving: wife, Joan Speaks Cottle; sons, Hal Jr., John; grandchildren.

Raymond Boykin

ELGIN — Funeral service for Chief Raymond J. Boykin, 79, of Elgin, will be held at 3 o’clock, Wednesday, November 3, 2004 at Sawney’s Creek Baptist Church officiated by the Reverend Richard Humphries. Interment will follow in Sand Hill Heights Baptist Church Cemetery, Elgin, SC. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 o’clock in the Fellowship Hall of Sawney’s Creek Baptist Church, 14605 State Highway 34E, Ridgeway, SC. Shives Funeral Home is in charge.

Chief Boykin died Monday, November 1, 2004. Born in Lugoff, SC, he was the son of the late Herbert R. and Sadie Smith Boykin. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and afterwards spent forty years with the City of Columbia Fire Department where he retired as Assistant Chief. Chief Boykin was an active cattleman and farmer. He was a member of Sand Hill Heights Baptist Church in Elgin and attended Sawney’s Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors are his wife, Shirley M. Boykin; daughter Linda B. Nichols and husband Nick of Elgin, sons; Gregory Boykin and Phillip Boykin and wife, Susan of Columbia, 2 granddaughters and 3 great-granddaughters, his sisters; Sarah Johnson and Marjorie Steadman of Columbia, Viola Pebley and husband Bill of Little Mountain, SC, and Priscilla McCullough of Columbia. Mr. Boykin was predeceased by his first wife, Thelma K. Boykin, and 3 brothers, Herbert F., Banks, and Ralph Boykin.

William Campbell

SUMTER — Services with burial for William Stanley Campbell, 2 p.m. Wednesday at Grace Christian Fellowship Church, Manning. Stephens Funeral Home, Manning, is in charge. Born in Ruby to Juanita Oliver Claire and Calvin Campbell, he died Oct. 31, 2004. Surviving: wife, Sandra Johnson Campbell; daughters, Bambi Shelley, Sumer Jarvis; sister, Barbara Koontz; grands, Luke, Lance, Mollie Shelley.

Louise Ford

COLUMBIA — Services for Mrs. Louise Artemus Ford, 92, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday (viewing at 1 p.m.) at Second Calvary Baptist Church with burial in Palmetto Cemetery. Leevy’s Funeral Home, Taylor Street Chapel is in charge. Surviving are her daughters, Julia Brown and Mary Williams; sister, Nancy Artemus.

Anita Davis

LEXINGTON — Services for Anita Kozlowski Davis, 56, of Lexington, will be held at 2pm Tuesday in St. Peter’s Catholic Church, officiated by Msgr. Leigh A. Lehocky. Burial will follow at Woodridge Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Robert K. Bouknight, George S. Nicholson, Nikki G. Setzler, Richard Chewning, Timothy G. Driggers, and James Q. Seigler. Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington is handling arrangements. Memorials may be made to Airport High School Foundation or to St. Peter’s Catholic Church Fellowship Hall Fund.

Mrs. Davis died Saturday, October 30, 2004. Born in Erlangen, Germany, she was the daughter of Louise Buljok Kozlowski and the late Stanley V. Kozlowski. She was a graduate of Cardinal Newman High School. Mrs. Davis was a longtime member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church. She was an employee of Lexington School District #2 at Airport High School where she was a German language teacher. At Airport, she served as Foreign Language Department Head, Chair of the German Honor Society, and Coordinator for the German-American Exchange Program. Mrs. Davis dearly loved her students and her profession and was selected as Teacher of the Year. Additionally, throughout her life she was involved in numerous community activities.

Mrs. Davis was devoted to her parents and was a loving wife and loving mother. She enjoyed her yard, the beach, her animals, and her visits to Germany. She always put others ahead of herself.

Surviving, in addition to her mother of Springdale, are her husband, Randy Davis; son, Randall Davis; daughter, Julie Davis, all of Lexington; brother-in-law and his wife, Ken and Chris Davis, and their children Ken, Jr. and Elizabeth Davis, all of Lexington; sister-in-law and her husband, Susan and Terry Darby, and their daughter, Claire Darby, all of Colorado Springs, CO; as well as numerous aunts, nieces, and nephews in New York and Germany.

Mary Goodman

SALUDA — Mary Lee Anderson Goodman, 58, of 283 Hickory Grove Road, died Sunday, October 31, 2004 at her residence.

Born in Lexington, she was the daughter of the late Harold Anderson and the late Erlene Enlow Anderson. She was married to Marvin Olin Goodman. Mrs. Goodman was employed by Greenwood Mills (Harris Plant) and a member of Deans Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Surviving are her husband, Marvin Olin Goodman of the home, son and daughter in-law, Michael O. Goodman and Monique S. Goodman of Saluda, daughter and son in-law, Teresa G. Scruggs and Travis Scruggs of Saluda, four grandchildren, Laken Goodman, Autumn Goodman, Heaven Cauley and Charish Cauley, brother, Robert Anderson of Batesburg, sister, Connie Maddox of West Columbia.

Funeral service will be 11 AM, Wednesday, November 3, 2004 at Deans Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Kyle Knight and Rev. Ray Buchanan officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Ramey Funeral Home is in charge.

Shirley Harper

LAKE CITY — Graveside service for Shirley Tomlinson Harper, 64, owner/operator Tomlinson’s Catering, widow of Harry Harper, 11 a.m. Wednesday in Lake City Memorial Park. Visitation is 6-8 tonight at Brockington Funeral Home. Born in Sumter Co. to Elvin and Nona Floyd Tomlinson, she died Oct. 31, 2004. Surviving are brothers, Talmadge, Gerald, Fred; grandsons, Bryan, Nicholis, Matthew Tomlinson.
