COLUMBIA — Services for Helen Louise Neeley, 66, of Columbia, will be held at 4 pm Sunday, February 6, 2005 in the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia, officiated by Rev. John McKeown. Burial will follow at Olympia Cemetery.
Mrs. Neeley, widow of John Oran Neeley, died Thursday, February 3, 2005. Born in Columbia, she was the daughter of the late Adam James and Beatrice Simpson Dangerfield. Mrs. Neeley was a former employee of Olympia Mill.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Julia and Larry Hall of Covington, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Odell and Janet Neeley of Lexington; brother and sister-in-law, Curtis and Anne Wright of W. Cola; grandchildren, Jason (Michelle) Coward, Mark Hall, Justin Hall, Amanda (David) Jefferson, Jennifer (Ryan) Velina, Crystal (Will) Griffen; great grandchildren, Jordan Coward, Kaitlynn Jefferson, Logan Neeley Velina, and Arianna Griffin, Joey Jefferson; and aunt, Katherine Cooper of Cola.

GREENWOOD — Services for Clyde Belton Adams, 66, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday (visitation 6-8 tonight) at Harley Funeral Home with burial in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Born in Greenwood to Belton and Eva Smith Adams, he died Feb. 4, 2005. Surviving are daughters, Beth Chapman, Sherrie Adams, Kristie Long; stepchildren, Jodie, Shelley, Tommy Curry; two sisters; seven grandchildren.

SWANSEA — Services for Rosia Glover will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Bible Way Church, Piedmont, with burial in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens. Bostick-Tompkins Funeral Home, Columbia, is in charge. Born in St. Matthews to Paul and Pearl S. Speaks, she died February 3, 2005. Surviving are son, Westley Glover; siblings, Mary Walker, Odes, Frank, Eloise Speaks; two grandchildren.

Susie Maye
LEESVILLE — Susie Maye, 83, of Leesville, died Friday, February 4, 2005. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 8, 2005 at Leesville United Methodist Church with interment in Ridge Crest Memorial Park with Rev. Dan Bradley officiating. Pallbearers will be David Mims, Sr., David Mims, Jr., Joseph Maye, Philip Hawkins, Wade Maye, Steve McCaskill, William G. Hill and Allen Mason.
Mrs. Maye was born in Sumter, SC to the late Finely C. and Lida Brown McCaskill. She was a member of Leesville United Methodist Church. She was a library assistant and married to the late William Eugene Maye, Sr.
Surviving is her daughter, Suzette Hawkins of Batesburg-Leesville; son, William Eugene Maye, Jr. of Batesburg-Leesville; brothers, Finley L. McCaskill of Sumter; James C. McCaskill of Manning; 5 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn McCaskill Duval.
Family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, February 7, 2005 at Milton Shealy Funeral Home, other times at the home of her daughter, Suzette Hawkins in Batesburg-Leesville. Betty Hitt
GREENWOOD — Services for Elizabeth “Betty” Whilden McIver Hitt, 69, are 2 p.m. Monday (visitation 6-8 tonight) at Blyth Funeral Home; entombment in Oakbrook Memorial Park Mausoleum. Born in Charleston to Edwin Whilden and Dorothy McIver, she died Feb. 4, 2005. She was a member of St. Mark UMC. Trudy Castles
COLUMBIA — A memorial service for Irene Hall “Trudy” Castles will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to Family Shelter, 2411 Two Notch Road, Columbia, S.C. Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo, is assisting the family.
Mrs. Castles passed away suddenly on Thursday, February 3, 2005. Born May 8, 1926, in Cherry Valle, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Howard C. Hall, a farmer, and Anna Belle McCormick Hall, a former schoolteacher. In Grand Rapids, Mich., she married Donald Earl Steele of Belding, Mich., accompanying him to Jefferson City, Mo. and Columbia. She later married Robert Smith of Columbia and Thomas Castles of Winnsboro.
Educated at New Lyme Deming High School in Ohio and a business school in Grand Rapids, her early professional activities ranged from fashion modeling to secretarial duties in the law office of Earle Stanley Gardner in Michigan, State Farm Insurance in Missouri and as a court reporter for the S.C. Workers Compensation Commission in Columbia. As a court reporter, she was either self-employed or associated with Columbia Reporting or Grainger Reporting Service. She specialized in taking testimony for subsequent legal transcription in official hearings for the S.C. State Law Enforcement Division, the S.C. Department of Health & Environmental Control, the State Medical Board and others.
A resident of South Carolina since 1962, Mrs. Castles loved to read her books, bask in the sun, accompany tour groups, bake gifts for others and raise her pets. She especially liked to root for the sports teams of Clemson University, through adversity as well as triumph, particularly if they played another South Carolina team.
Surviving are son and daughter-in-law, Tony D. and Diane E. Steele, of Waterford, N.Y.; sister, Claire Hall Rothenbuhler of Columbus, Ohio; and nieces and nephews, Leonard Rothenbuhler of Indianapolis, Ind., Lori Holycross of Logan, Ohio, Eric Rothenbuhler of College Station, Tex and Hilda Talib of Dayton, Ohio.
Frances Hoyle
COLUMBIA — Service for Frances “Lou” Hoyle, 70, will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Elmwood Cemetery and Gardens Mausoleum Chapel. Visitation will be Sunday 5-7 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Gervais Street Chapel.
Mrs. Hoyle died Friday, February 4, 2005. Born in Swain County, N.C., she was a daughter of Flora M. Queen Long and the late George M. Long.
A beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Mrs. Hoyle is survived by her husband, Bill Hoyle; sons, Larry W. Hoyle and his wife, Cheryl, of Lagrange, Ohio and Tony M. Hoyle of Columbia; brothers, Lawson C. Long of Havlock, N.C., Kenneth D. Long and Robert W. Long, both of Lexington, N.C.; sister, Betty Jean Suggs of Wilmington, N.C.; grandson, Christopher W. Hoyle and his wife, Melissa; and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by brother, Nathan M. Long.

Mae Thomson
DECATUR, Ga. — (Lucy) Mae Blackwell Thomson died February 3, 2005, in Decatur, Georgia. Born July 31, 1937, in Georgetown, SC, she was the daughter of the late Thomas J. Blackwell and Lucy Mae Royal Blackwell. She graduated from Winyah High School, Columbia College, and the University of South Carolina. She taught reading and social studies at the elementary and middle grade levels for many years. She was also very active in the Columbia College Alumnae Association and Delta Kappa Gamma. She was predeceased by her husband, the Reverend Henry M. Thomson, Jr., a United Methodist minister. Following his ministerial path, she lived in Columbia, Heath Springs, Allendale, North Charleston, Graniteville, Saluda, and New Ellenton. Survivors include three daughters, Laura McCarty (Phillip) of Decatur, GA; Rebecca Blake (Edward) of Wilmington, NC; and Mary Jane Thomson of Charleston, SC; as well as a granddaughter and two step-grandsons; and a brother and sister-in-law, Walter J. and Pat Blackwell of Trenton, SC.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 11, 2005, in St. Paul United Methodist Church, 602 Main Street SW, New Ellenton, with the Reverend Randy Taylor officiating and the Reverend Kenneth B. Timmerman, Jr. bringing remarks.

Marian Jordan

Mrs. Jordan, widower of Willie Herbert Jordan, died Monday, February 7, 2005. Born in Wilmington, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Roy R. Williams. Mrs. Jordan had been a local resident for more than fifty years.
Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Larry E. and Belinda Jordan of Cayce; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Doug Blumeyer of Wilmington, NC; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Jordan was predeceased by two daughters, Patricia “Patsy” Ivey and Linda Lee “Bootsie” Jordan.
