Buddy Morrell

HARTSVILLE — Funeral services for W. B. “Buddy” Morrell, 71, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 9, 2005, at Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Dr. Bob Cline will officiate, with burial in Magnolia Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the residence, 215 Pecan Dr. Memorials may be made to the Lake Marion Baptist Church State Missions, 1182 Scott Lake Road, Summerton, SC 29148.

Mr. Morrell died Monday, February 7, 2005. Born in Darlington County, S.C., he was a son of the late Robert Albert and Grayce Bryant Morrell. He graduated from Hartsville High School and attended the University of South Carolina. He was one of the best football players to play at Hartsville High and was MVP in the Regional All-Star game. He was owner and operator of Pageland Manufacturing and was a member of Hartsville Masonic Lodge # 173. He was a member of Lake Marion Baptist Church where he was a Sunday School teacher and deacon.

Surviving are his wife, Beth Thomas Morrell of Hartsville, SC; daughter and son-in-law, Vickie and Chip Tinsley of Hartsville, SC; son and daughter-in-law, Kyle and Laurie Morrell of Cheraw, SC; brothers and sister-in-law, Robert and Carroll Morrell of Lincolnton, NC, Gary Morrell of Hartsville, SC; granddaughter and spouse, Jennifer and Johnny Sanders of Hartsville, SC; grandsons, Kaleb Morrell and Jacob Morrell, both of Cheraw, SC; great-grandchild, Kinsey Sanders of Hartsville, SC; special aunt and cousin.

Mae Johnson

COLUMBIA — Mae Martin Johnson, 92, wife of the late Jennings L. Johnson, Sr., passed away February 7, 2005.

Born in Richland County, Mrs. Johnson was the youngest daughter of the late Katie Shull Martin and Walter Martin.

Mrs. Johnson was a lifelong and oldest surviving member of Rehobeth United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her daughter, Vernette Jirel of Columbia and son and daughter-in-law, J.L. Johnson, Jr. and Bonnie of Lexington; grandchildren, Diane (Larry) Meetze, Glenda (Brian) Davis, Cheryl (Lester) Williams, Sandra (Alvin) Backman, Todd (Jude) Johnson and Larry Johnson; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Rehobeth United Methodist Church with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. at the church prior to the service. Serving as active pallbearers will be Grady Davis, Billy Jowers, Bret Davis, Alvin Backman, Todd Johnson and Lester Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Mark Hatley Sunday School Class and Edna Brown-Sutton Prayer Group. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is in charge.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rehobeth United Methodist Church, 6911 Two Notch Road, Columbia, SC 29223.

Milton Keenan

JOHNSTON — Entered into rest on Monday, February 7, 2005, Mr. Milton M. Keenan, loving companion of Mrs. Ruth H. Johnson, of 136 Hardy Place Drive, Johnston, S.C. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosa Lea Keenan, two sisters, Jeanette Holley and Evelyn Keenan and a brother, Rev. Billy Keenan.

Surviving are two sons, Rodney Keenan of Aiken, S.C., and Jimmy Keenan of Warrenville, S.C.; a brother, Earl Keenan of Warrenville, S.C., and a granddaughter, Brandy Wheeler.

Mr. Keenan was born in Windsor, S.C., to the late Frank and Inez Wood Keenan. He retired from International Paper Company with 25 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church, Bath, S.C.

Funeral services will be on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Hatcher Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Louis Swanson officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Beulah Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Ralph Johnson, Pervis Parrish, Bobby Storey, Gerald Storey, Thomas Turner, Paul Scott and Jimmie Johnson.

Friends may call on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hatcher Funeral Home, U.S. Hwy. No. 1, Langley, S.C.

Bonnie Humphries

COLUMBIA — Funeral service for Bonnie Mae Crapps Humphries, 93, of the Lowman Home, will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with burial in Elmwood Cemetery and Gardens. Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or to Reformation Lutheran Church. Visitation will be at 1 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall prior to the service. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is in charge.

Mrs. Humphries died Sunday, February 6, 2005. Born in Columbia on February 2, 1912, she was a daughter of the late James Thomas Crapps and Sarah Meetze Crapps. She graduated with a B.A. from Columbia College in 1933 and taught 7th grade English at Crayton Middle School from 1960 to 1977. She was a life-long member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, was active on the Columbia College Alumnae Council, served as a volunteer at Providence Hospital, and was a member of the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

Surviving are nieces, Nell Petrea McCreery of Savannah, Ga. and Virginia Peery Herlong of Chapin; and nephews, George Duncan of Greensboro, N.C. and Gordon Peery of Lexington. She was predeceased by her three sisters, her husband, Jack Austell Humphries, Jr. in 1982 and by her son, Thomas Michael Humphries in 2002.

Marie Davenport

COLUMBIA — Service for Marie Bradley Davenport, 93, will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Rev. Albert Cox will officiate. Memorials may be made to Greene Street United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 1-3 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service. Family and friends may call and visit at the home of Pat and Betty Bradley at 312 Bel Air Drive, West Columbia.

Mrs. Davenport, wife of the late Falvius Lee Bradley and Floyd T. Davenport, passed this life on Sunday, February 6, 2005. Born in Richland County, she was a daughter of the late M.B. and Kizzie Hornsby. She was a member of Greene Street United Methodist Church. She worked for many years at Belk Department Store. She retired from Ft. Jackson having worked in the alterations department.

Surviving are son and daughter-in-law, David “Pat” and Betty C. Bradley of West Columbia; daughter-in-law, Betty R. Bradley of Blythewood; step-daughter, Lottie Haselden of Savannah, Ga.; son-in-law, Robert H. Gwin of Florence; and sister, Polly Tims of West Columbia. She was Two Nanny and Nanny to ten grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by son, Marvin L. Bradley, daughter, Connie Gwin, eight brothers; a sister; and stepsons, Ralph C. Bradley and Almond M. Bradley.

Keith Fuller

COLUMBIA — Services for Keith B. Fuller will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pisgah Church with burial in Palmetto Cemetery. Palmer Memorial Chapel is in charge. Born in Columbia to Moses E. and Lillie Fuller, he died February 6, 2005. Surviving are his mother; sisters and brothers, Lillie and Jermire Watson, Tonya Fuller, Leslie Wiley, Shawn Fuller, Carlton Watson and Torey Williams.

J.C. Bouknight Jr.

IRMO — Service for John Chalmas Bouknight, Jr., 89, will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Shady Grove United Methodist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to the church building fund. Visitation will be Tuesday 6-8 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel.

Mr. Bouknight, husband of the late Loree Lindler Bouknight, died Monday, February 7, 2005. Born in Irmo, he was a son of the late John Chalmas and Ellen Meetze Bouknight. He was a member of Boyleston Masonic Lodge and Shady Grove United Methodist Church.

Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law, John D. and Elaine Bouknight of Irmo, Donald H. and Patricia Bouknight of West Columbia, James C. and Faye Bouknight of Irmo, Paul Dwight and Dianne Bouknight of Irmo and Douglas W. and Sharon Bouknight of Little Mountain; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara Ann Bouknight and Jimmie Hendrix of Prosperity; brother, Quincy Bouknight of Chapin; sisters, Martharie Hazelden of Scranton, Norene Drafts of Lexington and Norma Evans of Irmo; sister-in-law, Marguerite Bouknight of Irmo; seventeen grandchldren; twenty-five great-grandchldren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was predeceased by brothers, Heyward Bouknight and D. “Peck” Bouknight, sister, Hazeleen Bouknight and great-granddaughter, Ruby Loree Peeler.

William Epps Jr.

KINGSTREE — William Booth “Billy” Epps, Jr., 85, of the Cedar Swamp Community, died Sunday, February 6, 2005, in a Kingstree hospital.

Mr. Epps was born September 22, 1919, in Williamsburg Co., a son of the late William Booth Epps, Sr. and Mrs. Ruth Phillips Epps. He was a graduate of Kingstree High School and was an Army veteran of W.W. II, having served in the 5th Army, 176th Field Artillery in North Africa and Italy, and was awarded the Legion of Merit. He was a member and Deacon of Cedar Grove Baptist Church and was a farmer, raising livestock and row crops. Mr. Epps was an avid horseman and a long time member of the Cedar Swamp Lancing Association. He was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Edwin Epps.

Surviving: his wife, Mrs. Hazel Brown Epps of Kingstree; daughter, Ruth E. (Steve) Brown of Kingstree; grandson, William Epps (Nichole) Godwin of Kingstree.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Williamsburg Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Kingstree Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Connie Maxwell Children’s Home, P.O. Box 1178, Greenwood, SC 29646; Tidelands Hospice, 2591 N. Fraser St., Georgetown, SC 29442; or Cedar Grove Baptist Church, 3905 Big Woods Road, Kingstree, SC 29556.

Hugo Schrottky

COLUMBIA — Memorial services for Hugo Schrottky, 92, will be held at a later date at The Lowman Home. Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Irmo/St. Andrews Chapel, is in charge.

Mr. Schrottky died Sunday, February 6, 2005. Born in Oshkosh, WI, he was the son of the late Charles and Mary Kuehl Schrottky. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church.

Surviving are his daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret and William Kollmann of Columbia and Patricia and George Sefranik of Downers Grove, IL; grandchildren, Katherine Burton-Butt and her husband, David, of Virginia Beach and Paul Burton of Columbia and great-grandson, James Paul Butt.

Peter Cook

CAMDEN — Services with burial for Peter Cook, widower of Bessie Robinson Cook, are 1 p.m. Thursday at Wesley Chapel U.M.C., where he was a lifetime member, directed by Cooke Funeral Home. A son of Willie and Lottie Dubose Cook Payne, he died Feb. 6, 2005. Surviving are his stepchildren, Lottie Belton, Edna Frazier, Frances Reid, Gladys Green; sister-in-law, Annie Cook; other relatives and friends.
