Robert Chinault

IRMO — Services for Robert Rogers Chinault, 74, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 10, 2005, at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church with interment to follow in Bush River Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, February 9, 2005, at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Irmo/St. Andrews Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, Mid-State Chapter, PO Box 7044, Columbia, SC 29202-7044.

Mr. Chinault died Tuesday, February 08, 2005. Born in Essex Co., VA, he was the son of the late Robert R. and Mary Haynes Chinault.

He was a member of Cornerstone Presbyterian Church. He served in the U.S. Air Force, and had retired after thirty years of working with Dictaphone (Pittney Bowes).

He is survived by his wife, Gertrude (Trudy) Chinault; daughter, Pamela Renee Chinault both of Lexington; grandchildren, Ryan Kerr, Eric Kerr, Jennie Kerr, and Alex Conner; brother, William O. Chinault of Spokane, WA; sister, Frances Allen of Augusta, GA, Chris Weymouth of Richmond, VA; four nephews, three nieces; and his precious dog, Kisses.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Teresa Kerr.

Everyone who knew him loved him and he will be missed.

Kimmie Syphertt

NEWBERRY — Services for Kimmie Syphertt, 85, 2 p.m. Thursday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, directed by Wilson Funeral Home. Born in Dorochester Co. to Timothy and Dora Green Murray, she died Feb. 5, 2005. Surviving: children, Ulysses, Cleveland, Rev. Melvin, Joseph, Clarence, Randy, Julia Syphertt, Maezell Nelson, Naomi Richardson, Lizzie Davis; nieces, nephews, cousins, friends.

Jackie Sullivan Sr.

SUMTER — Funeral services for Mr. Jackie Laverne Sullivan, Sr., 75, of Sumter, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 11, 2005, in the Chapel of Greenlawn Funeral Home. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Dorn V.A. Medical Center, Garners Ferry Road, Columbia, SC 29209.

Mr. Sullivan died Tuesday, February 8, 2005, at the Dorn V.A. Medical Center. Born on January 30, 1930, in Manning, SC, he was a son of the late Lucius Samuel Sullivan and Julia Way Sullivan. He had been a resident of Sumter for the past 49 years. He retired from DuPont as a machinist with 35 years of service. Mr. Sullivan was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in Germany during the Korean War. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Martha Reardon Sullivan of Sumter; a daughter and son-in-law, Debra and John Kennedy of Gaston; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jackie “Jack” L. Sullivan, Jr. and Cathy of San Antonio, TX, and John Samuel Sullivan of Zephyrhills, FL; two sisters, Maxine Sullivan of Columbia, and Clara Mae Epps of Manning; four grandchildren, Nathan, Meghan, Nicole, and John John.

Ruby Putnam

COLUMBIA — Memorial services for Mrs. Ruby Stoudemayer Putnam, 77, of Columbia will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 10, 2005, at Bethel United Methodist Church with the Reverend Luther Rickenbaker officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends at the Greenlawn Funeral Home on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bethel United Methodist Church Memorial Garden Fund, 4600 Daniel Drive, Columbia, SC 29206 or the Epworth Children’s Home, 2900 Millwood Avenue, Columbia, SC 29205.

Mrs. Putnam died Monday, February 7, 2005, at a local hospital. Born in Little Mountain, SC, she was a daughter of the late George Zachariah Stoudemayer and the late Alberta Eargle Stoudemayer. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church where she served on the Parsonage Committee. Mrs. Putnam was an avid golfer and was a member of both Spring Valley Country Club and Wild Dunes Resort. Among her many talents were growing tomatoes, baking pound cakes for her granddaughters, catching crabs and fish, sewing dresses, playing cards, dancing, and taking care of everyone near and far. She was a gracious friend, loving wife, and caring mother and grandmother, and she will be deeply missed.

Surviving are her husband, W.C. “Putt” Putnam, Jr. of Columbia; a son, Walter C. Putnam III of Albuquerque, New Mexico; a daughter, Lisa G. Putnam of Columbia; granddaughters, Anna and Sarah of Albuquerque, NM; two brothers and a sister, G. Carlton Stoudemayer of Irmo, Mary Givens of Charleston, and Robert Leon Stoudemayer of Danville, KY; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Inez Lane

MULLINS — Services for Inez Lane, 84, widower of James Lane, are 2 p.m. Thursday (visitation 7-9 tonight) at Meares Funeral Home, burial in Devotion Gardens. Born in Marion Co. to Dock and Lottie Lane Thompson, she died Feb. 8, 2005. Surviving: son, John Lane; siblings, Daniel Lane, Mildred Strickland, Barbara Faulk; grandchildren, John, David, Daniel, Matthew, Amelia Lane; great-grandchildren, John, Jesse Lane.

Lena Dixon

CHERAW — Lena Mae Atkinson Dixon, age 77, died February 5, 2005. Born in Darlington County, she was the daughter of the late Joe and Rosie Beasley Atkinson. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, George Dixon of Cheraw; sons, George Dixon, Jr. and wife Ann of Cassatt, SC, William Dixon and wife Mary of Cheraw, Marion Dixon and wife Jenny of Cheraw and Jimmy Dixon of El Paso, TX; one daughter, Katherine Hammonds of Pageland, SC; sisters, Myrtle Gainey of Bishopville, SC, Lucille Griggs of Hartsville and Janie Brock of Chesterfield, SC; brothers, Joe Atkinson, Doc Atkinson, Hayward Atkinson and Rufus Atkinson all of Hartsville, SC; also 19 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 10, 2005, at Windsor Park Freewill Baptist Church with interment in Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Wednesday at Norton Funeral Home of Cheraw.

Norton Funeral Home of Cheraw is serving the Dixon family.

Jerry Davis

COLUMBIA — Services for Jerry Lee Davis will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Bethlehem Baptist Church, College Place, with burial in Brown Chapel A.M.E. Church Cemetery. Visitation is 1-6 p.m. today at Greater Columbia Funeral Service, which is in charge of arrangements.

Nancy Bushman

COLUMBIA — Nancy Moore Bushman, 80, died Monday, February 7, 2005. Mrs. Bushman was the widow of Dr. Donald O. Bushman. She was born in Lancaster, S.C., daughter of Ruth McCardell and William Ross Moore. She graduated from Winthrop Training School, Rock Hill, S.C., and enjoyed contacts with her classmates during recent years. Mrs. Bushman taught in Kingstree, Orangeburg, and Columbia, and also spent three years overseas teaching for the military. During that time she traveled extensively. After her husband’s death, she taught at Heathwood Hall Episcopal School.

Mrs. Bushman was an active member of Shandon Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School, participated in many church activities and served on the Session. She was especially interested in Global Missions.

In the year 2000, Mrs. Bushman moved from Shandon to the Presbyterian Home of South Carolina. She appreciated the friends that she had, the daily activities and the care that she received there. Mrs. Bushman made sure that she remembered birthdays and special events that were important to her friends at the Presbyterian Home. She was very thoughtful of others.

Mrs. Bushman is survived by sons, Donald O. Bushman, Jr., and his wife, J.J. of Hendersonville, N.C., and Phillip Bushman and his wife, Sharon of Winchester, Va.; three grandsons, Aaron Bushman of Los Cruces, N.M., and Justin and Mark Bushman of Chicago, Ill. Also, Mrs. Bushman is survived by a brother, Bill Moore of Bowling Green, Ky.; two nieces, Ms. Patty Anderson and Mrs. Jennifer Fields (Gary), also of Bowling Green; and a nephew, Warren Montgomery of Florence, S.C. Mrs. Bushman was predeceased by her sister, Mary Hall Moore Montgomery.

Memorial services will be held at Shandon Presbyterian Church, 607 Woodrow Street, Columbia, S.C., at 2 p.m. Wednesday, and at the Presbyterian Home of S.C., 700 Davega Drive, Lexington, S.C., at 2 p.m. Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the Presbyterian Home of S.C., P. O. Box 210037, Columbia, S.C. 29211-0037, Shandon Presbyterian Church, or to the charity of one’s choice.

William Scott

JACKSON — Funeral services for Mr. William Melvane Scott, 74, of Highland Circle, Jackson, SC, who went to be with the Lord on February 6, 2005, will be conducted Wednesday morning at 11 o’clock from the Bethel United Methodist Church. Rev. Jerry Davis and Rev. Edward Newsome officiating. Interment in Jackson Memorial Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home this Tuesday evening from 6 to 9.

Sun Mi Tschirhart

FLORENCE, Ky. — Funeral Services for Mrs. Sun Mi Tschirhart, 46, of Florence, KY, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 10, 2005, at the Chapel of Greenlawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Shin A. Kim officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Serenity Gardens. A Memorial Service is to be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Greenlawn Funeral Home with visitation to follow until 9:00 p.m.

Mrs. Tschirhart died Sunday, February 6, 2005, in Florence, KY. Born in South Korea, on November 3, 1958, she was the daughter of Yon Su Paek and Pok Ye Choe. She had been a resident of Florence, KY, for the past 7 years, having moved from Columbia. She had a passion for gardening. She was a loving and caring person.

In addition to her parents, surviving are her husband, William Tschirhart of Florence, KY; two sons, Bu Sun Choi and Je Hun Choi both of Blythewood; two sisters, Sun Yo Washington of Atlanta, Ga. and Soon Duk Baek of Elgin, SC; two brothers Seong Ki Paek of Blythewood and Woon Hak Paek of Jacksonville, FL and several nieces and nephews.

Claudia Sheppard

SILVERSTREET — Claudia Abrams Sheppard, 87, formerly of 1089 Main St., Silverstreet, widow of Billie Wayne Sheppard, died Sunday, February 6, 2005, in Newberry County Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Sheppard was born January 4, 1918, in Silverstreet, a daughter of the late Claude E. and Ellen Paysinger Abrams. She was the former owner of Sheppard Grocery Store in Silverstreet and was a member of Silverstreet Lutheran Church and the Home Demonstration Club.

Mrs. Sheppard is survived by two sons and two daughters-in-law, Wayne and Linda Sheppard of Prosperity and Mike and Bonnie Sheppard of Silverstreet; a sister, Shirley Berry of Silverstreet; eight grandchildren and spouses, Cyril and Lynn Sheppard and Kara Sheppard, all of Prosperity, Janna and Josh Cockrell of Clinton, Beth and Dwayne Haun, and Susan Demastees, all of Greer, Becky and Jarrett Gilliam of Lexington, Jamie and Jason Merchant of Prosperity, and Blake Sheppard of Silverstreet; and eight great-grandchildren, Andrew Demastees, Justin Meyers, Collin Merchant, Luke Merchant, Kylie Haun, Carson Cockrell, Amy Baker, and Nikki Baker. She was predeceased by two sisters, Kutura Neel and Sara Inabinet and a brother, Cyril Abrams.

Funeral services for Claudia Abrams Sheppard will be conducted Wednesday at 2 P.M. at Silverstreet Lutheran Church by the Rev. Steve Jackson and the Rev. Art Hallman. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 P.M. Tuesday at the Whitaker Funeral Home and the family will be at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Sheppard, 306 Woodland Road, Silverstreet.

Memorials may be made to Silverstreet Lutheran Church, 120 Long Street, Silverstreet, SC 29145.
