CHERAW — Mary A. English, 74, died Friday, February 11, 2005. Born in Bennettsville, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Robert Lee and Fannie Caroline Lyons Allen. She was the widow of Robert English. She was a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church. She had retired from the Cheraw Primary School where she worked in food service.
She is survived by a son, Calvin Melton, two daughters, Linda M. Smith and Faye Wallace all of Cheraw, S.C., a brother, Vernon Allen of Greensboro, N.C., a sister, Margaret Pegues of Cheraw, S.C., 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 2:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. Sunday, February 13, 2005, at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, S.C. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 P.M. in the chapel of Kiser Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oak Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Roberta Coker
MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. — Services for Roberta Scurry Coker, 80, formerly of Lake City, S.C., are 1 p.m. Monday at Calvary Baptist Church, Lake City, with burial in Lake City Memorial Park. Visitation is 6-8 tonight at Brockington Funeral Home, Lake City. Born in Florence to Monroe and Maggie Parrott Scurry, she died Feb. 12, 2005. Surviving are daughter, Elaine Main; sister, Elizabeth Schneider; 3 grands; 3 great-grandchildren.
Norma Muldrow
DARLINGTON — Mrs. Norma Pitchford Mozingo Muldrow, 88, formerly of Darlington and a resident of the Presbyterian Home of Florence, died Friday, February 11, 2005.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, February 13, 2005 at 2 P.M. in Grove Hill Cemetery, conducted by the Reverend Doctor Olin Whitener, Jr. and directed by Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home.
Mrs. Muldrow was born in Walhalla, S.C., a daughter of the late Charles Wesley and Norma Clinkscales Pitchford. She was a graduate of Lander College and moved to Darlington in 1938 to teach in the public schools. Mrs. Muldrow was appointed Auditor of Darlington County in 1965 on the death of her first husband, and served for sixteen years, retiring in 1981. She was a member of the Darlington Presbyterian Church and the D.A.R. For many years, Mrs. Muldrow was the sponsor and the pianist for both the Darlington Lions Club and the Darlington Kiwanis Club. She was first married, in 1940, to the late Wilbur Mozingo, who was the Auditor of Darlington County. After his death, she married F. Lowell Muldrow. Mrs. Muldrow was predeceased by her brother, C.W. Pitchford, Jr. of Pottstown, PA.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews, and a stepdaughter, Mrs. Ginger M. King of Hartsville, SC.

Dale Luther
CHERAW — Memorial service for Mr. William Dale Luther, 51, of Cheraw, will be held 2 o’clock Monday afternoon, February 14, 2005, at Rehoboth United Methodist Church. Officiating will be The Reverend Karen Radcliffe and The Reverend Ron Pettit. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210 or the McLeod Foundation (The Guest House at McLeod), P.O. Box 100551, Florence, SC 25901.

Mr. Luther died Saturday, February 12, 2005, at McLeod Medical Center. A 1972 graduate of Spring Valley High School; he worked as plant manager for Carolina Ceramics in Columbia until moving to Cheraw where he worked as plant manager with Palmetto Brick.
Survivors include: his wife, Belinda (Bunny) Luther of the home; sons, Jason Blaine, Christopher Ryan and William Michael of Cheraw; his stepmother, mother, two sisters and a brother; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Mr. Luther was preceded in death by his father A.C. (Sonny) Luther.
The family would like to thank all of the nurses (MICU), staff and physicians at McLeod Medical Center for all of their support and caring assistance.

Jasper Murphy
COLUMBIA — Services for Deacon Jasper Murphy, 69, of 2500 Barhamville Road, will be 2 p.m. Monday in Sweet Home Baptist Church with burial in Memorial Gardens of Columbia.
Visitation will be 2 p.m. until 8:30 p.m., with the family receiving friends 6-7 p.m., today at the Manigault-Hurley Funeral Chapel, 2229 Two Notch Road.
Son of the late Nick and Mary Strother Murphy, he was born in Eastover and died on February 10, 2005, in Columbia.
He was a Deacon at Sweet Home Baptist Church and was Superintendent of the Sunday School. He served as Chairman of the Deacon Board, was Treasurer of the Jubilee Choir, President of the Richland Singing Union No. 2, and a member of the Male Chorus. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran.
He was married to Julia Mae Jones Murphy.
Deacon Murphy is survived by: his wife of 44 years; a daughter, Mrs. Wanda M. (Hervie) Terry; a grandson, Harrison Terry; a sister, Mrs. Mary Nell Outen; one sister-in-law; his mother-in-law; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

LEXINGTON — Buddy Courtney, 72, son of the late Steven L. Courtney, Sr. and Sara Kind Glazener, was called from this life on Friday, February 11, 2005, to rest in peace and safety of the arms of our Good Shepherd.
Buddy served his country for two years in the United States Army. He was an avid golfer who enjoyed playing many courses across the state and a member of Crickentree Golf Club. He was in sales until his retirement, having sold building supplies and was manufacturing rep for ladies apparel and automobiles. He was a loving husband and devoted father and grandfather. Buddy had many friends and close golfing ‘buddies.” He befriended all who called upon him
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Barbara Stork Courtney of Lexington; son, Steven L. Courtney, III of Myrtle Beach; daughter and son-in-law, Annalee and Wayne Jewell of Lexington; his grandchildren, Carly and Conner Jewell, who brought immeasurable joy to his life; stepmother, Kathleen Courtney of Columbia; stepbrother, Larry Courtney of Augusta, GA; sister-in-law, Marcia Porcel of Lexington; nephew, David Tarbush and wife, Nita of Euless, TX.
Services will be held on 1 p.m. Tuesday, February 15, 2005, at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel with interment to follow in Elmwood Cemetery. The Rev. Robert Borom of Virginia Wingard Memorial United Methodist Church will officiate. Pallbearers will be Jason Ellison, Bruce Holmes, Eddie Wolfe, Ralph Craft, Don Cook, Jr., and Jimmy Watford. Honorary pallbearers will be Tony Evans, Leroy Rabon, Al Florence, Bobby Howard, Jerome Baughman, Boyce Buckner, Charles Monteith, John Summers and Harold Martin. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, February 14, 2005 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

SCRANTON — Services for Ferrell Tilton Poston, 69, widow of Douglas Poston, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at High Hill Free Will Baptist Church with burial in St. John Cemetery. Visitation is 7-9 tonight at Brockington Funeral Home, Lake City. Born in Florence Co. to John and Ethel Ard Tilton, she died Feb. 12, 2005. Surviving are son, Leonard Poston; daughter, Sharon Bazen; three brothers; two sisters; grandchildren.
Agnes Pitts
HILTON HEAD — Agnes Strickland Pitts, age 64, of Hilton Head and formerly of Clinton and Silverstreet, S.C., died in Hilton Head Saturday, February 12th.
She is survived by her husband, Wade Pitts of the home; a daughter, Cindy Pitts of Fountain Inn; brothers, Bob Strickland of California, Howard Strickland of Kansas and sisters, Helen Powers of GA and Martha Ann Capers of North Augusta and mother-in-law, Juanita Pitts of Clinton.
A memorial service will be held at the Gray Funeral Home Chapel in Clinton, Monday, February 14th at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
