Tina Scarborough

TIMMONSVILLE — Tina Lynn Powell Scarborough, 38, died Friday, February 11, 2005.

Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 13, 2005, in the Chapel of Layton-Anderson Funeral Home. Entombment will follow in the Florence Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Mrs. Scarborough was born in Camden, the daughter of James U. Powell of Florence and Laura Staton Powell of N. Myrtle Beach. She received her formal education in pharmaceutical technology.

Surviving are: her husband, Rod Scarborough of Timmonsville; a stepson, Justin Scarborough, Banner Elk, North Carolina; one brother, James U. Powell, Jr. (Angela), Florence; maternal grandmother, Ruth Staton; four aunts, Betty Bell, Barbara Caulder, Nancy Jackson, Alice Garner (Kenny); two uncles, Earl Powell, Troy Staton.

Memorials may be made to the Florence Area Humane Society, 1007 Stockade Drive, Florence, SC 29506.

Layton-Anderson Funeral Home, 4210 W. Palmetto Street, Florence, SC is assisting the family with arrangements.

Marian Smith

BISHOPVILLE — Marian T. Smith, wife of Luther S. Smith, died Friday, February 11, 2005, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born in Bishopville, she was a daughter of Oleta Bell Troublefield Sansbury and the late Emmett Troublefield.

She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church at Rembert and was formerly employed by Winn-Dixie.

Survivors besides her husband, mother and stepfather, Thomas Sansbury, include three sons, Luther E. Smith and his wife, Rhonda, Darrell A. Smith, and Tony L. Smith and his wife, Natalie, all of Bishopville; a daughter, Sylvia S. Floyd of Lynchburg; two sisters, Carolyn Hatfield and her husband, John, of Dalzell and Arlene Mathis and her husband, Richard, of Bishopville; two brothers, Charles Troublefield and his wife, Harriett, of Rembert and Bobby Troublefield of Dalzell; ten grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Cornelius Troublefield.

Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Monday in New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Pressley Morris officiating.

Burial will be in the Piedmont Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Chuck Troublefield, Brad Troublefield, Darrell Smith, Jason Rooks, Richard Green, and Jamie Floyd.

Matthew Smith will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Sunday at Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home and other times at 1950 Woodrow Rd.

Memorials may be made to the Freewill Baptist Children’s Home, P.O. Box 229, Turbeville, S.C. 29162.

Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home of Bishopville is in charge of arrangements.

Johnnie Brown

BARNWELL — Services with burial for Johnnie Brown are 2 p.m. Monday at Young Rosemary Baptist Church, Williston. Visitation is 3-9 tonight at Simmons Funeral Home, Williston. He died Feb. 10, 2005. Surviving are mother, Nora Brown; children, Carolyn Randall, Linda Myrick, Janice Ford, Eddie, John, Johnnie Brown Jr.; stepson, Gary Sites; brother, Quincy Childs; companion, Ann Glover; 12 grands; others.

Lillian Chassereau

VARNVILLE — Mrs. Lillian Crews Chassereau, 87, widow of the late Clifford C. Chassereau, died Saturday morning in the John Edward Harter Nursing Center in Fairfax, after an extended illness.

Mrs. Chassereau was born in Charleston, April 7, 1917, a daughter of the late Ish and Mamie Crews. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse, and had retired as Recreational Director at the Harter Nursing Home. She was a very Talented Artist, and was a member and Sunday School Teacher at the Varnville 1st Baptist Church.

Surviving are: sons and daughter in law: Carl W. and Adrene Chassereau of Hampton, Myles E. “Gene” and Diane Chassereau of Georgetown, Claude C. Chassereau of Varnville, and Larry J. Chassereau of West Columbia; grandchildren, Ronald W. Chassereau, Chris Newton, Byran Chassereau, Clint Chassereau, Tommy Barfield, Luke Chassereau and Ashley Chassereau. There are 7 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11 A.M. Monday at the Varnville 1st Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Tommy Kelley, with burial in the Hampton Cemetery directed by Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home in Hampton.

Friends may call at the Chapel in Hampton from 6 to 8 P.M. Sunday, and Monday until 10 A.M. when the casket will be placed in the church prior to services.

Ella Dunbar

SALLEY — Services for Ella Mae Charley Dunbar, 75, are 1 p.m. Tuesday at Sardis Baptist Church; burial in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery, Woodford. Visitation is noon-8 tonight at W.B. Crumel Funeral Home, North. Born in Woodford to Beaufort Charley and Agnes Haynes, she died Feb. 9, 2005. Surviving are husband, Phillip Dunbar; sons, Guy, John Jones; brothers, John Charley, Theodore Livingston.

Buddy Courtney

LEXINGTON — Services for Buddy Courtney, 72, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 15, 2005 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel with interment to follow in Elmwood Cemetery. The Re. Robert Borom of Virginia Wingard Memorial United Methodist Church will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, February 14, 2005 at the funeral home.

Charles Carver

GREENVILLE — Charles Lewis Carver, 78, of 8511 White Horse Road, died on February 12, 2005 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

The son of the late Roy L. and Hattie Green Carver, he was born in Greenville County.

Mr. Carver was a self-employed paint contractor, served in the U. S. Navy and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors are two sisters, Frances L. Lee of Fountain Inn, and Doris C. Kolb and husband, James, of Columbia; a brother-in-law, Jerry W. Lee of Fountain Inn; a close friend, Dorothy Stanford of Memphis, TN and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Carver is predeceased by a sister, Betty Trammell.

Visitation will be Monday from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest.

Graveside services will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Providence Baptist Church, P. O. Box 14699, Greenville, SC 29610.

The family is at the home of Frances Lee, 161 Hilltop Drive, Fountain Inn.

Ernest Byers Jr.

ROCK HILL — Mr. Ernest L. Byers Jr., 74, of 127 Murrah Drive, died Sunday, February 13, 2005, at his home.

A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Greene Funeral Home, Northwest Chapel, with the Rev. William Shytle officiating.

A native of Rock Hill, he was the son of the late Mamie Marquard Byers Dailey and Ernest L. Byers Sr. and was a graduate of Calhoun Falls High School.

He was formerly employed as an insurance salesman with Liberty Life Insurance Co. and United Life, and was later self-employed in the cleaning services industry.

Surviving are two sons, Barry D. Byers and Bradley D. Byers, both of Rock Hill; two daughters, Gayla Williams and Kim B. Smith, both of Rock Hill; his brother, C. Eugene Byars of Columbia; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, February 14, 2005 at the funeral home and other times at the home of Bud and Kim Smith, 2885 Lake Wylie Drive, Rock Hill.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 1131 Fairfax, VA 22038 or to the charity of one’s choice.
