Thelma Campbell

CHESTER — A graveside memorial service for Thelma Harper Campbell will be held at 3 p.m. Monday in Chester Memorial Gardens. Wright’s Funeral Home is in charge. Born in Ninety Six to Paul and Gladys Trussell Harper, she died Feb. 12, 2005. Surviving are daughters, Mary Davis, Robin Statham; five grands; brothers, Paul, Mickey Harper; sister, Marcelle McWhorter.

Clyde Blair Jr.

CHARLESTON — Clyde Hammett, Jr., died at his home on Sunday, February 6, 2005. He was the son of Frances Hall Blair of the Lowmon Home in White Rock, SC and the late Mr. Blair. A graduate of Clemson University, he was an architect with Thomas & Denzinger Architects, and a member of AIA. Clyde is survived by his sisters, Susan Blair Brogdon (Loren J. Brogdon) of Big Canoe, GA, and Kathleen Blair Worthy (H.R. Worthy) of Chapin, SC; nieces, Lauren Brogdon Anderson and Katie Worthy; nephew, Tripp Worthy; great-niece, Sydney Anderson. A memorial service will be held at Drayton Hall, Hwy 61, Charleston, SC on Thursday, February 17, 2005 at 1 PM. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to Clemson United Methodist Church Building Fund or Clemson Architecture Center of Charleston. The Blair Family is being served by Palmetto Cremation Society.

Evelyn Bradley

COLUMBIA — Services for Evelyn Jackson Bradley will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Jehovah Baptist Church with burial in Serenity Memorial Gardens. Viewing is noon-8 tonight at Bostick-Tompkins Funeral Home. Born to Ernest Entzminger and Ester Jackson, she died February 11, 2005. Surviving are nieces, Nancy Foster, Elnora Johnson; others.

Ernest Ward Sr.

HAMPTON — Mr. Ernest Orlando Ward, Sr., 81, of 210 Melvins Circle in Hampton died Saturday afternoon at his residence after an illness.

Mr. Ward was born in Floella, Alabama on October 8, 1923 and was a son of the late Joel Monroe Ward and Lula Mae Helms Ward. He had retired from Westinghouse Corporation in Hampton as a Press Operator and was a World War II Army Veteran, having served in Normandy during D Day. He was a member of the Sandy Run Baptist Church and was married to the late Sara Frances Moseley Ward.

Surviving are sons: Ernest Ward, Jr., Wayne Ward and wife, Debra and Bobby G. Ward, all of Hampton; daughters, Ann Mixson and husband, Marlon, of Brunson; three brothers, Wayne Ward of Augusta, Quinton Ward of Maine and Welma Ward; one sister, Inez Wells of Augusta; daughter in law, Rose Ward of Hampton. There are 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by two sons: James Monroe “Jimmy” Ward and John Russell Ward.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1 PM in the Chapel of Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home in Hampton, conducted by Rev. Paul Reid and Rev. Jay Brunson and conducted by Peeples-Funeral Home in Hampton. Burial will follow in the Brunson Cemetery near Brunson.

Friends may call at the chapel in Hampton from 6 until 9 PM on Monday and until the hour of services on Tuesday.

The family suggests that those who wish may send memorials to: Palmetto Health Hospice, Box 1123, Bamberg, SC 29003.

Shirley Davis

ANDERSON — Services for Shirley Anne Keisler Davis, 63, homemaker, are 2 p.m. Tuesday (visitation 6-8 tonight) at McDougald Funeral Home with burial in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Born in Lexington to Crosson Keisler and Myrtle Hendrix, she died Feb. 12, 2005. She was a member of Riverside Baptist Church. Surviving are husband, Melvin Davis; brother, Larry Keisler; sister, Deborah Hight.

Audrey Tidwell

CAMDEN — Funeral services for Audrey Arrants Tidwell, 90, will be held on Tuesday, February 15, 2005 at 2:00 PM in Antioch Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Kenneth Bouldin, Rev. Von Cockrell, Rev. Frank Davis, and Rev. Howard Brown will officiate. The family will receive friends on Monday, February 14, 2005 from 7:00 - 8:00 PM in Kornegay Funeral Home Camden Chapel. Memorials may be made to Gideon International, P.O. Box 664, Lugoff, SC 29078 or to the Antioch Baptist Church, 1875 Antioch Road, Camden, SC 29020.

Mrs. Tidwell, widow of Jule Sidney Tidwell, died Saturday, February 12, 2005. Born in Camden, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Allie Belle Johnson Arrants. Mrs. Tidwell was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.

Surviving are daughter, Pat Shivar and her husband, Eddie, of Camden; sons, Sidney Tidwell and his wife, Nancy, of Rembert, and Wendell Arrants and his wife, Diane, of Camden; 10 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Toni Gardner.

Agnes Reynolds

NORTH CHARLESTON — The relatives and friends of Ms. Agnes Rabon Reynolds, widow of Clarence B. Reynolds of N. Charleston, SC are invited to attend her funeral service today at 1:00 P.M. February 14, 2005 at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Friends may call from the hours of 11:00 A.M. until the time of service. Burial to follow in Carolina Memorial Park.

She was born May 25, 1929 in Conway, SC to the late Hal Rabon and Nettie Rabon. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by a daughter, Barbara Ann Collins of Conway; two sons, James Bell (Gloria) of Conway, Bernice Bell (Diana) of Germantown, TN; a sister, Rhoda Alford of Conway; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Flowers will be accepted. Funeral services provided by Carolina Memorial Funeral, N. Charleston, SC 843-797-2222.

Thomas McCall

JOHNSONVILLE — Thomas James (Jim) McCall, 84, of 528 Lake City Hwy., died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2005, a Trident Memorial Hospital.

Born in Gibson, N.C. on September 20, 1920, he was the son of the late Hugh G. and Margaret Covington McColl. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Patricia Ann McCall.

Surviving are his wife, “Ludie” Esther Blackwell McCall; 2 sons, James Hugh (Toni Bogue) McCall of Johnsonville, William Thomas (Linda Taylor) McCall of Wilmington, N.C., and a daughter, Linda Sue McCall (Dairen) Jacobs of Johnsoville. There are 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren to miss their Granddaddy Jim. He also leaves 2 sisters, Ruth Eva McColl Tanner of Johnsonville, and Vera Francis McColl Quick of Maysville, N.C.

Mr. McCall was a member of Johnsonville United Methodist Church where he has served as president of the Men’s Bible Class, served on the Administrative Board, Finance Committee, Board of Trustees, Sunday School teacher, and generously supported his church in all ways.

He was a member of the Johnsonville School Board for many years. He also served on many county and state boards.

Mr. McCall attended school in Scotland County, N.C., but was unable to complete his education because he had to support his family after the death of his father. This was no hindrance to a man of his character. He never stopped reading and learning. It could truly be said of him that he was a “Jack of All Trades.” He was employed in so many professions and mastered each and improved on each. He invented labor-saving ways of streamlining processes.

He was the founder of McCall’s, Inc., a business with 18 locations in the Carolinas and Georgia. McCall’s, Inc., a heating/cooling wholesaler, is the second largest Goodman distributor in the United States. He also was the founder of J & L Company, Inc., a real estate holding company with multi state locations. He was co-founder of McCall Properties, Inc., a real estate lease/purchase company.

“Mr. Jim,” as everyone called him, was dearly loved by his family and the huge number of employees whom he treated as family members.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Monday, Feb. 14, 2005, at the Johnsonville United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at the Garden of Devotion Cemetery.

Memorials may be made in Mr. McCall’s memory to his church, Johnsonville United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 449, Johnsonville, SC 29555, or to the Johnsonville Rescue Squad & Ambulance Service, P.O. Box 1021, Johnsonville, SC 29555.

Morris Funeral Home of Hemingway is in charge of arrangements.

Viola Sherrill

CAMDEN — Graveside services for Viola Baxley Norris Sherrill, 81, will be held at 4:00 PM Tuesday, February 15, 2005 in Quaker Cemetery. Rev. Bruce Hancock will officiate. The family will receive friends on Monday, February 14, 2005 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM in Kornegay Funeral Home Camden Chapel.

Mrs. Sherrill, died Saturday, February 12, 2005. Born in Bethune, she was the daughter of the late Ashley Horton and Fannie Elizabeth Watkins Baxley. She had retired from Charter Communications and was a member of First Baptist Church of Camden and the Wateree Wanderers Camping Club. Mrs. Sherrill was first married to the late Allan M. Norris and second to the Martin C. Sherrill.

Surviving are daughters, Carolyn Norris of Columbia, and Myra Canipe of Camden, granddaughter, Shannon Sellers of Camden. She was predeceased by 3 brothers and 1 sister.

Rev. Clarence Reaka

SWANSEA — Services for Rev. Clarence Wayne Reaka at 11:00 am Wednesday at Barr-Price Funeral Home Lexington Chapel. Visitation will be from 7-9 pm Tuesday at the Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Open Bible Baptist Church Building Fund, 636 Whetstone Rd., Swansea, S.C. 29160.

Born in Bushong, Kansas, a local resident since 1997, formerly of Warsaw, Ohio. He was a son of the late Earl and Della Fitch Reaka and was a Pastor serving the Lord in his ministry for 56 years, was a member of Open Bible Baptist Church and a Navy Veteran.

Surviving are his wife of nine years, Margaret Erow Reaka of Swansea; sons, David Reaka of Canada, Michael and Stephen Reaka, both of CA, Phillip Reaka of GA, Timothy, Daniel, Nathan, and Peter Reaka, all of TX; daughters, Diana Sangster of Gaston, Lynette Horton of AZ, Rebecca Hunter, TN, Joanna Hooker of Lexington, Suzanna Hamilton of Germany; stepchildren, John Farver of MI, Bill Erow of FL, Jim Erow and Beth Watson of OH, Kathy Erow of VA; brothers, Duane and Robert Reaka of KA; sisters, Wilma Barton of MO, Mary Nelson of MN, Dorothy Schiesser of KA; 40 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Wilda Reaka; his second wife, Alice Reaka; a son, Jonathan Reaka.

The family want to thank LMC Extended Care and Tri-County Hospice for their caring service to Rev. Reaka.
