ALPHARETTA, GA - Evan James Bartell died on Tuesday, June 21, 2005 at his home in Georgia, at the age of 89. He resided at 7103 Jameson Pass, Alpharetta, GA 30022.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Saturday, June 25, 2005 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 961 Trail Ridge Road, Aiken. The Rev. Robert Burns, Pastor of St. Paul’s, The Rev. Pook, retired, and The Rev. Thomas Kenny, Pastor of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Alpharetta, will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Gardens immediately following the service.

A native of Akron, NY, Rev. Bartell was the beloved son of The Rev. Jacob H. and Emilie Kasten Bartell. The family included two brothers, Erich and The Rev. Waldimar Bartell.

Rev. Bartell was a blessing to a multitude of people during his 40 years of service to the Lord. Following his ordination into the Lutheran ministry from Trinity Seminary, Capital University, Columbus, OH on June 7, 1942, he served 4 parishes: Our Savior’s in Minneapolis, MN; Hope in Miami, FL; St. Paul Calvary in Niagara Falls, NY; and St. Michael’s, Perry Hall, MD. He then assumed the office of Assistant to the President of the Eastern District of The American Lutheran Church in 1969, and was then elected to Dean of the Central Region in 1972 and 1979. He retired the summer of 1982 and moved from the Washington , DC area to Aiken, SC.

Surviving are 4 children: daughter Judith Bostock of Alpharetta, GA; son Robert Bartell of BelAir, MD; daughter Janet Flanagan of Frederick, MD; and son Donald Bartell of Cambria, CA; also, 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 in the evening on Friday, June 24 at Shellhouse Funeral Home, Hayne Avenue, Aiken, SC.

AIKEN – Charles L. Henshaw, 92, of 17 Hudson Road, died Saturday at the Medical College of Georgia after an extended illness.

Mr. Henshaw was born and raised in Chesterfield County, VA the son of Eugene Henshaw and Mary Mann Mitchell Henshaw. He was the last of their nine children

He was employed by E.I. DuPont de Nemours & Company for 47 years, working at the Savannah River Site from startup in 1952 until 1976. He retired as a machinist in the 400 area. He continued to work as a residential building contractor, retiring from his second career at the age of 85.

He had been a member of Toastmasters International and had been active in Boy Scouts and Dixie Youth Baseball. He also had been active in the Eustis Park Elementary Parent Teachers Association.

He was a founding member of Providence Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Aiken.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Henshaw; two sons, Charles L. Henshaw, Jr., Columbia, and Andrew M. Henshaw, Smyrna, GA; two daughters, Cecily E. Prather and Melissa Henshaw Jarriel, both of Aiken. He is also survived by Mary Charline Gamba of Richmond, VA; Robert E. Henshaw of Michigan; Joyce A. Wilkinson of Richmond, VA; and grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday in the Shellhouse Funeral Home Chapel, Hayne Ave., conducted by the Reverend John Warren of Eutaw, AL. Burial will be in Historic Downtown Bethany Cemetery.

Pallbearers will include Bruce Brown, Alfred Cooper, J. Brett Jarriel, Bogumil Przybysz, Max Harrington, Richard Herold.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Monday evening at the funeral home.

The mass of Christian Burial wil be celebrated Friday, July 22 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, N. Augusta with Rev. Father C. Alexander McDonald celebrant. Interment will follow on Monday in Calvary Cemetery, Pittsburg, PA.
Mrs. Stasko was born in Pittsburg, PA to the late Augustine and Anna McMann McDonough. She had been a resident of N. Augusta since 1996. She had worked at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center as an RN. Survivers include her loving husband, Albert C. Stasko, N. Augusta; two daughters, Naomi Gouker, Aiken and Gloria Stasko, Manchester, NH; two sons, Stanley Stasko, Joppatown, MD and Albert John Stasko, Baltimore, MD; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren.

DONALD O’NEAL HUTTO, 52 of Old Waynesboro Rd., Hephzibah, GA, died Wednesday, July 20, 2005 at Medical College of George Hospital. A native of Aiken, he was a son of the late Henry Frank and Bernice Toole Hutto, Sr., he had lived in Aiken most of his life before moving to Hephzibah 12 years ago. He was a retired master sergeant in the Army Reserves and proudly served his country in Operation Desert Storm. He was employed at International Paper Co. Survivors include three children, Starla H. (Bob) Chord, Hephzibah, GA, Chris (Andrea) Hutto, Homer, Alaska, and Shelby Hutto, Saranak Lake, NY, three brothers, Henry F. Hutto, Jr., Aiken, Heyward T. Hutto, Jackson, Jimmy Bass, Aiken, two sisters, Rebecca Bass and Maureen Williams, both of Aiken, he is also survived by three grandchildren, Sydney, Joshua and Ethan Hutto of Homer, AK. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:00 AM at Montmorenci First Baptist Church with The Rev.’s Gary Youell and Ernest Moates officiating. AIKEN, SC -- Sgt. Roy “Buzz” Zahl, USMC, Ret., died July 31, 2005 following long fight with cancer.

Sgt. Zahl was born in Altadena, CA to the late Roy L. and Rosemary Dotter Zahl. He was a graduate of Orange Coast College. Sgt. Zahl retired from the US Marine Corps. He served in the Vietnam War, and received 3 Purple Hearts, and the rarely presented French Legion Medal of Honor given to him for pulling 23 men to safety. He moved to Aiken in the early 70’s from Duarte, CA. He was a horse trainer and co-owner of Zahl Stable. He was a member of St. Mary’s Help of Christian’s Catholic Church and a member of the Aiken Hospital Auxiliary since 1995.

Survivors include his wife, Suzanne Wilcox Zahl, Aiken; 4 step children, Leila McWee, Vicki Redd, Patrick Huffman, all of Hephzibah, GA, Harold Huffman, Jr., Harlem, GA; brother, Robert L. Zahl, Aiken; 2 sisters, Debbie Davis, Claremont, CA, Linda Zahl, Aiken; 3 nephews, Danny Davis, Jr., Chad Davis, Andy Davis, Claremont, CA; 3 nieces, Dawn Hensley, Kymberly Hensley, Audra Hensley, all of Aiken; 14 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 1 p.m. Saturday, August 6, 2005 at St. Mary’s Help of Christian’s Catholic Church.

Mrs. Kramer, born February 14, 1924, was the beloved wife of the late Joseph A. Kramer of Evanston, IL and Aiken. She was the daughter of the later Hazel Hendricks and Scott Schulhofer. She is survived by her son, Michael J. Kramer of Aiken, daughter-in-law, Donna J. Kramer, and granddaughter, Nicole Elise Kramer. She is also survived by her brother, Flint Scott Sculhofer of Holywood, FL; nieces, Meg Rapp, Susan Kleinbub and Amy Pryor, all of Aiken. And a nephew Randy Schulhofer of Elmont, NY.
Mrs. Kramer was employed at the Clearwater Finishing Plant and by the Farmers and Merchants Bank for many years before going to work with her husband at the Kramer Feed Company. She continued on after his death to run the company and later to be the executive secretary for Plantation Nurseries Inc..

Mrs. Abstance was a mill worker at Graniteville Company, the oldest member of Spring Branch Baptist Church, and a member of the VFW. She was preceded in death by her husband, Aiken Abstance.

She is survived by her daughter, Frances Neeley, Montmorenci; son, Billy Taylor, Aiken; 5 grandchildren, Ronnie Wood, Gene Wood, Janet Wood, Julie Neeley, Perry Corley; 3 great grandchildren, Andrew Corley, Angel Lynn Wood, Gene Wood, Jr.; brother, Rodney Charles Miller, Windsor.

Services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, August 11, 2005 at Spring Branch Baptist Church. The Rev. Ernest Webb will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be 6-8:00 p.m. Wednseday at Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home 715 East Pine Log Rd. Aiken.
