Jimmy Lucas

CAYCE — Graveside services and Masonic rites for Jimmy H. Lucas, 83, of Cayce, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 22, 2005, at Southland Memorial Gardens, officiated by Rev. Dr. Donald F. West. Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia is handling arrangements.

Mr. Lucas, widower of Mary A. Lucas, died Friday, February 18, 2005. Born in Lexington, he was the son of the late Gabriel Mathias and Frances Lever Lucas. He was a member of Cayce United Methodist Church and was retired from Ft. Jackson Civil Service with Hospital Medical Maintenance. Mr. Lucas was a member and past Master of Cayce Masonic Lodge.

Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Ken Hatmaker of Hurst, TX; brother, Jess Lucas of Chapin; grandchildren, Katharine Boland and Ken Hatmaker, Jr.; great grandchildren, Matthew Hatmaker, Heather Beth Hatmaker, John Boland, and Victoria Boland. Mr. Lucas was preceded in death by his brother, Sam P. Lucas.

Johnathan Malone

UNION — Johnathan M. Malone, 18 year old Clemson Freshman, son of Robert and Melinda Malone of 140 Springdale Drive, Union, SC, died Saturday, February 19th, 2005, due to injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. Born in Greenville, SC, on April 29, 1986. The son of Marion Robert Malone III and Melinda Parker Malone. A 2004 graduate of Union High, he was a member of the Beta Club, National Art Honor Society, Cross Country, Wrestling Team, and the gifted and talented program.

Upon graduating he was enrolled at Clemson University. He was involved in the Clemson Collegiate Wrestling Club. He was a member of Wayside Baptist Church of Laurens, he also attended First Baptist of Union and was active with First Baptist youth group.

Surviving in addition to his parents are, sisters Johnnie Lee Malone, student at Charleston Southern University, and Heather Malone Robertson and her husband Brad T. Robertson. Two brothers, Robert Christopher Malone of the home, and Robert John Malone, a student at the University of South Carolina, Columbia. Grandparents, Norma and Kyle Pridemore of Clinton, S.C., Wayne and Kay Parker of Newberry, S.C., Marion and Judy Malone of Union, S.C., and Great Grandparents, Mabel Malone of Union and Elizibeth Gregory Pridemore of Union. Aunts and Uncles, Billie Ann Parker of Greenwood, Karen and Kitt Kittrell and family of Gray Court, Jeffery Scott Malone of Union. Special pets, Sam and Ryker, and many other special friends and relatives.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 23, at 4:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, visitation will be held Tuesday, February 22, from 6-9 p.m. at Lewis Funeral Home.

Pallbearers are Joe Knox, Blake Mcmillian, Derrick Coile, Lee Moss, Adam Mullins, Jake Hutchinson, Trevor Strom, Taylor Black, Chris Farr, and Brandon Vaughan.

Memorials may be made to Wayside Baptist Church, PO Box 1077, Laurens, SC 29360.

He lived his life to help others and will continue to do so in death through the gift of his organs, so that others may continue to have life.

Katherine Lackey

COLUMBIA — Service for Katherine Jones Lackey, 84, will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Shandon United Methodist Church with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the residence. Memorials may be made to Shandon United Methodist Church. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is in charge.

Mrs. Lackey, wife of the late H. L. “Cotton” Lackey, died Sunday, February 20, 2005, in Providence Hospital after a short illness. She was born in Goldsboro, N.C., and was the youngest of six children of the late Kate and David Lawrence Jones.

Mrs. Lackey was an active member of Shandon United Methodist Church for more than forty years. She was president of the Good Will Sunday School Class and a member of the Ola B. Taylor Circle.

Surviving are children, Gary Lackey of Columbia, Julie Freeman of Atlanta, Ga., and Larry Lackey of Greensboro, N.C.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

James Jeffcoat

NEESES — James L. “Shockey” Jeffcoat, 78, of Neeses, died Monday, February 21, 2005.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 23, 2005, at Livingston United Methodist Church with Rev. Robbie Hall officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery in Neeses. The casket will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.

Mr. Jeffcoat was born in Orangeburg County, a son of the late Wiley Tunis and May Livingston Jeffcoat. He was an Army veteran of World War II and had retired from the Savannah River Site. He was a member of Livingston United Methodist Church. He was married to the late Lila T. Jeffcoat.

Survivors include one daughter, Ann Vinson of Neeses; three sons, Steve Davis of Neeses, Johnny Davis of Norway and Preston Davis of Ehrhardt; ten grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Culler-McAlhany Funeral Home in North and other times at the home, 6729 Neeses Highway, Neeses.

Hazel Knight

HARLEYVILLE — Hazel Adell Knight, 93, of 127 West Main Street, Harleyville, entered into eternal rest Sunday February 20, 2005, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Ed Reynolds and Rev. Dickie Knight officiating. Burial will follow in the Harleyville Cemetery. Casket will be placed in church one hour before service. Pallbearers will be John Russell (Rusty) Knight, Howard (Howie) Sohm, Art Shuler, Kally D. Knight, Richard (Ricky) Knight, Jr. and Ryan Knight. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Bryant Funeral Home, 607 N. Parler Ave. St. George, S.C.

Mrs. Hazel was born March 27, 1911, in Harleyville, a daughter of the late Watson Daniel Knight, Sr. and Mary Estelle (Minnie) Wimberly Knight. She graduated from Harleyville High School in 1928, was former Clerk for Town of Harleyville and a member of First United Methodist Church of Harleyville where she belonged to the Ozella Dotson Sunday School Class and the United Methodist Women. She was the widow of Artie Oral Knight, Sr. and was predeceased by brothers and sisters: Walker Legare Knight, Watson D. Knight, Joe Knight, Letha K. Knight, Martha Ann Youngblood and a grandson, Art O. Knight, III.

Surviving: three sons and their wives, Artie Oral Knight, Jr. and Elinor, Orangeburg, Kirby Daniel Knight and Jeannie, Harleyville, Rev. Richard Hayes (Dickie) Knight, Sr. and Brenda, Lexington; a daughter and her husband, Gloria and Howard Sohm, of Holly Hill; grandchildren, J. Russell Knight, Columbia, Howie and Julie Sohm, Holly Hill, Dana and Art Shuler, Santee, Kally Knight, James Island, Ryan Knight, Houston, TX, Mindy Knight, Mt. Pleasant, Ricky And Rita Knight, Fort Mill, Richelle and Craig Hardee, Aynor, Blakely and Matt Cunningham, Lexington; great-grandchildren, Hilton and Ethan Knight, Taylors, Will and Jacey Sohm, Holly Hill, Jay and Brant Shuler, Santee, and Emma Hardee, Aynor;, two sisters, Estelle K. Stanford, Charlotte, N.C. and Virginia (Jenny) K. Darden, Harleyville.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Harleyville, 135 East Main Street, Harleyville, SC 29448; Palmetto Health Hospice, P.O. Box 50820, Summerville, SC 29485 or to a charity of one’s choice.

Carrie Hungerpiller

ELLOREE — Carrie Bowie Hungerpiller, 2538 Cleveland Street, Elloree, died Monday, 2-21-05, at the home of a granddaughter, Julie Rollison, 6461 Old State Road, Holly Hill, S.C. Graveside service is 11 a.m. Tuesday, 2-22-05, in Santee Baptist Cemetery, Elloree, with Willie S. Fogle officiating. Fogle Hungerpiller Funeral Home is in charge.

Born in Anderson County, a daughter of the late Albert Bowie and the late Leora Sturkie Bowie, she was a graduate of Anderson College and a retired school and music teacher. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Elloree, where she served as church organist for fifty years. She also taught Sunday School and Bible School and worked with the Youth Department for many years. She was a correspondent for the Times & Democrat for many years. She was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy for eighty years, having been a charter member (1925) and, more recently, a member of the Paul McMichael Chapter, Orangeburg, S.C. She was a former member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Mrs. Hungerpiller was also a charter member (1941) of the Elloree Garden Club. She was the widow of P.P. Hungerpiller and was a partner in Fogle-Hungerpiller Funeral Home.

Survivors include 1 daughter, Nancy H. Jeffcoat, Elloree; 6 grandchildren, Amy Timberlake, Julie Rollison, Jack Jeffcoat, Tricia Hope, Kathy Jeffcoat and Jason Jeffcoat; 9 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; several nieces.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Elloree Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 387, Elloree, SC 29047.

William Finch

GADSDEN — Memorial service for William “Pee Wee” Finch of 1251 S. Cedar Creek Road will be held Wednesday, February 23, 2005, at J.P. Holley Funeral Home Chapel, Garners Ferry Road. Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 22, 2005, 3-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

J.P. Holley Funeral Home, Garners Ferry Road Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Richland County, he was the son of the late William and Catherine Williams Finch. He is survived by a special friend, Louise Weston; devoted friend, Robert Woodard; brother, Richard Washington (Ann Pringle), all of Eastover, S.C.; sisters, Geraldine (Robert) Anderson, Gadsden, S.C., Margie (John) Gilmore, Holly Hill, S.C.; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Benjamin Kann Sr.

CHESTERFIELD — Services for Benjamin Nathan Kann Sr., 62, retired dietitian, 11 a.m. Wed. (visitation 6-8 tonight): Miller-Rivers-Funeral Home. Burial: Oakland Baptist Church Cemetery. Born in Elizabeth, N.J., to Irwin Sr. and Eleanor Hadley Kann, he died Feb. 20, 2005. Surviving: wife, Helen Piazza Kann; children, Cheryl Rodano, Benjamin Jr., Brian Sr. Kann, Suzanne Koster, Eunice Blankenship; grandchildren.

Tommy Houston

SUMTER — Services for Tommy Lee “T” Houston, 56, Union Station AMEC member, 3 p.m. Wednesday at Job’s Mortuary. Burial: Walker Cemetery. Born in Sumter to Eartha Houston Carroway, he died Feb. 20, 2005. Surviving: mother; siblings, Sharon Housey, Robert Carroway; aunts, Sarah Littles, Ruth Davis; nephew, Derrick Boyd; grandaunts, Rosalee, Naomi Richardson; cousin, Coretta Plowden; friends.

Mary Snead

WHITE ROCK — Graveside services for Mary Louise Snead, 86, will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, February 25, 2005, in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Oxon, MD. Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday, February 22, 2005, at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Chapin Chapel. Memorials may be made to Palmetto Senior Care, Attn: Alfreida Ellison, 15 Richland Medical Park, Ste. 203, Columbia, SC 29203.

Mrs. Snead widow of Arthur W. Snead died Saturday, February 19, 2005. Born in Washington , D.C., she was the daughter of the late Dalie H. and Mary Weibe Cole. She was a member of Chapin Baptist Church.

She is survived by her sons, Art Snead, Jr.(Linda) of Columbia, Milton Snead of Chapin, Hampton LeRoy Snead (Debbie) of Anderson; daughter, Cindy Snead of Chapin; seven grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
