Lois Roseberry

NORTH AUGUSTA — Services for Lois Hattie W. Roseberry, 72, widow of Ed Roseberry, 10 a.m. Friday: Oak Grove Cemetery, Manning. Visitation 6-8 tonight: Stephens Funeral Home, Manning. Born in Manning, she was a daughter of Samuel Dewey and Bertha Ridgeway White. Surviving: children, Richard Posey, Lynn Nappari, Marica Plano; siblings, Julius, Harry, Don White, Lillian Ridgeway; grandchildren.

Paul Martin

WEST COLUMBIA — Services for Paul A. Martin, 80, of West Columbia, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 26, 2005, in the chapel of Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church in Perry, GA, officiated by Rev. Leon Stewart and Rev. J. Edgar Tarr, Sr. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia and from 7-9 p.m. Friday at the church in Perry, GA. Memorials may be made to Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 80487, Charleston, SC 29416-0487.

Mr. Martin died Tuesday, February 22, 2005. Born September 23, 1924, in East Point, GA, he was the son of the late Benjamin J. and Auline Smith Martin. At 17, he joined the Air Force and served in the Pacific during World War II, for which he earned a Purple Heart. After the war, he was a home builder in Atlanta, GA for several years. Mr. Martin later attended John Marshall Law School in Atlanta and earned a B.S., L.L.B., L.L.M.. and J.D. in law. He practiced law in Georgia for 35 years, during which he served on the governor’s staff of seven Georgia Governors, including former Governor and President Jimmy Carter. He also served as a special Deputy Sheriff in DeKalb County for eight years. Mr. Martin attended Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church all his life and dedicated many years of service as council to its organization. His wisdom and knowledge of the Law and Life will be greatly missed by all who sought his advice.

Mr. Martin, loving husband, father and grandfather, is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Senn Martin of West Columbia; daughter and son-in-law, Karen M. and David Walker of Irmo; son and daughter-in-law, R. Wayne and Doris Martin of Irmo; and grandchildren, Crystal Walker, Kelly Walker, B. Kyle Martin, Jennifer Martin and Johnny.

Leroy Alston Jr.

HOPKINS — Funeral service for Leroy Alston, Jr., of 118 Martin Carter Road, will be held 1 P.M Friday, February 25, 2005, at St. John Baptist Church with the Reverend Sammy Wade officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Garden with military honors. Visitation will be Thursday, February 27, 2005, 3-9 P.M. at the funeral home.

J.P. Holley Funeral Home, Garners Ferry Road Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Alston died Saturday, February 19, 2005. Born in Richland County he was the son of the late Leroy and Rachel Alston. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served two years active duty and eight with the U.S. Army Reserve Unit. He was a truck driver for over twenty-five years.

He is survived by his wife, Vinia B. Alston; sons, Corwin (Autum) Alston, Christopher (Angelia) Alston, Stefan Alston; daughter, Felecia Alston; brothers, James (Gloria) Alston, Otis (Sharon) Alston, Lewis (Dianne) Alston, Willie (Brenda) Alston, Jerome Alston; sisters, Betty (James)Young, Judy Gillette, Sandra Hurndon, Wendy Y. Hunt; four grandchildren.

Reba Martin

BLACKVILLE — Services for Reba Birt Dyches Martin, 83, will be held 3 P.M. Friday, February 25, 2005, at the Blackville First Baptist Church with burial in the Blackville Cemetery. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Folk Funeral Home in Williston. Memorials may be made to the Blackville Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 365, Blackville, SC 29817. Mrs. Martin died Wednesday. Born in the Long Branch Community, she was a daughter of the late Freddie Ceward Birt and Ellen Ruth Hair Birt. She was first married to the late William F. “Bill” Dyches and then to the late James Talmadge Martin. Mrs. Martin was a member of the Blackville First Baptist Church, Ruth Sunday School Class, Mission Action Group, Apple Dumpling Gang and the Civic Club. She was an avid bingo fan.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Hennie Dawson, of West Columbia, Faye Rountree of Cayce, Miriam and Charlie Dorsey of Aiken; son and daughter-in-law, William F. “Billy” and Susie Dyches of Blackville; several nieces and nephews; grandchildren, Dub Rountree, Wendy Mullis, Rusty Rountree, Chris Nettles, Wally Dawson, Amy Mikesell, Susan Nettles, Don Moore, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Eric Nettles, Nicole Rountree, Brandon Rountree, Nicholas Nettles, Jamie Rountree, Summer Dawson, Grey Moore, Taylor Rountree, Lewis Mikesell, Ginger Dawson. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Louise Etheredge, Edith Meger and Ruby Nix., brothers, Harvey and Ceward Birt.

Rebecca Lowery

COLUMBIA — Services for Rebecca Lowery, 2 p.m. Saturday at Bethlehem Baptist Church. Burial: Robinson Memorial Gardens. Wake: 7-8 p.m. Pearson’s Funeral Home is in charge. Born in Richland County to Washington Sr. and Ella Sumter, she died Feb. 19, 2005. Surviving: husband, James; sons, William, Jeremy, Derrick; siblings, Odell, Codell, Elane, Washington Jr., Carolyn, Alvin, James; 3 grandchildren.

Lucille Horton

COLUMBIA — Graveside service for Lucille Harmon Horton, 83, will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Palmetto Health Hospice.

Mrs. Horton, wife of the late Ferrell Douglas Horton, died Wednesday, February 23, 2005. Born in Horrell Hill, she was the daughter of the late James Diskin and Salley Motley Harmon. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church.

Surviving are sons and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Linda Horton of Columbia, and Don Horton of Columbia; grandson, Tate Horton and his wife, Tori, and granddaughter, Brantley Horton. She was predeceased by a sister, Helen Scaffe.

Norman Harvey

WEST COLUMBIA — Services for Norman Linwood Harvey, 74, of West Columbia, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, February 25, 2005, in First Baptist Church of Cayce, officiated by Rev. Joseph “Joe” Borgkvist, Jr. and Rev. Bruce Jackson. Burial will follow at Southland Memorial Gardens. Honorary pallbearers will be the George Chandler Sunday School Class. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Cayce.

Mr. Harvey died Tuesday, February 22, 2005. Born in Summerville, he was a son of the late Norman Lloyd and Cleo Hill Harvey. Mr. Harvey was a member of First Baptist Church of Cayce. He served as captain in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. A graduate of Clemson and USC, Mr. Harvey was a retired electrical engineer with SCE&G.

Surviving are his wife, Joyce Price Harvey; daughter, Dr. Betsy Gibbs of Charleston; son, Price Harvey of Cayce; sisters, Winona H. Peagler of Moncks Corner, Patricia Welch of Summerville; brothers, Bennie Ordel of Walterboro, Kirby Harvey of Summerville, Troy Harvey of Irmo, Carrol “Buck” Harvey of Walnut Creek, CA; and grandchildren, Robert, Cameron and Kara Harvey, Bretlanne and Harrison Baker.

Mr. Harvey will be deeply missed by his family, neighbors, church family and many friends, all of whom loved him dearly.

Annette Henderson

MARION — Annette Grice Henderson, 70, died Tuesday, February 22, 2005, at her residence after an illness. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 25 at Marion Baptist Church. Burial will follow in New Life Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, February 24, from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Richardson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Henderson was born in Marion, a daughter of the late Bevan Grice and Annie Mae Foxworth Grice. She is predeceased by her husband, Floyd Emery Henderson, Sr. Mrs. Henderson was a member of Marion Baptist Church where she worked as a Kindergarten Teacher for many years.

Mrs. Henderson is survived by two sons, Floyd Emery Henderson, Jr. and his wife Christina, and John Henry Henderson both of Marion; a daughter, Sonya Rene’ Henderson of Mullins; three brothers, George Grice of Marion, Ed Grice of Mullins, James Grice of Marion; two sisters, Alice Martin and Dorothy Davis both of Marion; and one grandchild, Bevan Casey Henderson.

Harold Harmon

GASTON — Services for Harold C. Harmon, 90, of Gaston, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Central Church of the Nazarene, West Columbia, officiated by Dr. James Thrower and Rev. John Sanders. Burial will follow at Pilgrim Lutheran Church Cemetery, Lexington. Pallbearers will be LaVerne McCartha, Gene McCartha, Andrew Rodgers, Richard Mincey, Kenneth Tanner, and Marvin Tanner. The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. Thursday at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Mr. Harmon died Monday, February 21, 2005. Born in Lexington County, he was the son of the late Jesse Godfrey and Maggie Inez Shealy Harmon. Mr. Harmon loved his church family at Central Church of the Nazarene and looked forward to attending services every Sunday. Prior to retirement, he was self-employed as a finish carpenter. Mr. Harmon was an avid WWE wrestling fan.

Mr. Harmon was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Donia M. Harmon and his son, Harold Wayne Harmon. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Brenda Harmon and Tommy Meetze of Gaston; brother, Alton Harmon of West Columbia; sisters, Rilzie McCartha and Annie McCartha, both of Chapin; grandson and his wife, Marvin O. and Michelle Sightler of Irmo; granddaughter, Sherri S. Boatwright of Lexington; grandson-in-law, John F. Boatwright, Jr. of Lexington; great grandsons, Thomas Graddick and James E. Sightler, both of Irmo; Matthew Chase Boatwright, Michael Cody Boatwright, and Mark Cole Boatwright, all of Lexington; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Harmon will be sorely missed by all whom he loved.

Dorothy Guzior

GOOSE CREEK — Dorothy Slater Guzior, 77, of Goose Creek, S.C., died Saturday, February 19, 2005, at her residence.

Memorial services will be held at Parks Funeral Home Chapel, Saturday morning, February 26, 2005, at eleven o’clock. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 409 King Street, Charleston, SC 29403.

Ms. Guzior was born December 20, 1927, in Sayre, Pa., a daughter of the late Frederick J. Slater and Florence Barnes Slater. She was a registered nurse for the VA Hospital in Charleston, S.C., and the Berkeley County Department of Mental Health.

Survivors include one son, Martin J. Guzior II and wife, Barbara of Columbia, S.C.; one daughter, Robin E. Carroll and husband, Todd of Goose Creek, S.C.; one brother, Frederick J. Slater of Hornell, N.Y.; one sister, Cherie Kavanaugh of Easton, Pa.; seven grandchildren, Betsy, David, and Chris Ziegler, Elizabeth and Jon Guzior and Jocelyn and Jenna Carroll.

Arrangements by Parks Funeral Home, Inc., 130 West 1st North Street, Summerville, S.C.

Ruth Gulledge

ABBEVILLE — Ruth Finley Gulledge, 79, of Abbeville died Tuesday, February 22, 2005, in the Agape Nursing Facility. She was born in Abbeville to the late Thomas F. and Leila C. Creswell Finley. Mrs. Gulledge was a graduate of Abbeville High School, a member of the Abbeville County Preservation Committee, the Master in Equity for Abbeville County for many years and a member of Main Street United Methodist Church.

Surviving Mrs. Gulledge are her son, Mike Gulledge of Lexington, SC, a sister, Mary Henderson of Charlotte, and two grandchildren, Finley and Brandi Gulledge of Lexington.

Mrs. Gulledge will be most remembered for being a wonderful mother and grandmother.

The family will receive friends 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 25, 2005, at Harris Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 2:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

The family will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Craig, 704 E. Greenwood St., Abbeville.

Memorial contributions may be sent in memory of Mrs. Gulledge to the Alzheimer’s Association, 340 Main St., Suite K, Greenwood, SC 29646.

Harris Funeral Home, of Abbeville is assisting the Gulledge family.
