IRMO — Services for Ronald Stanley Blocker will be held at noon Saturday at Bostick-Tompkins Funeral Home with burial in Piney Grove Cemetery. Born in Columbia to Odessa B. Holloway, he died February 22, 2005. Surviving are his children, Marcus, LaRhonda and Odessa Blocker; his mother; sister, Renee Watson; grandchildren.

Barbara Dawkins

MANNING — Services for Barbara Jane G. Dawkins, 58, former office manager/consultant, 2 p.m. Saturday (visitation 6-8 tonight) at Stephens Funeral Home. Burial: Paxville Baptist Church (where she was a member) Cemetery. Born in Manning to Edward and Marian Geddings Galloway, she died February 24, 2005. Surviving: husband, James; mother; sons, Bryan, Kevin; grandsons, Aaron, Phillip, Darren.

Beatrice Bowers

NEWBERRY —Services for Mrs. Beatrice Bowers, 91, are 1 p.m. Saturday (viewing at noon) at Friendship A.M.E. Church with burial in the church cemetery. Leevy's Funeral Home, Taylor Street Chapel is in charge. Surviving are her daughters, Lonetta Brawley and Beverly Bowers; sister, Mattie Martin; brother, Edward Harts, Jr.; granddaughters, Dawn Brawley, Tiffany (Donald) Miller and Danielle (Timothy) Henderson; 3 greatgrandchildren; 2 sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews.

Carrie Browder

ST. STEPHEN — Carrie Taylor Browder, 88, of St. Stephen, S.C., died Thursday in a local nursing home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon, Feb. 26, 2005, at First Baptist Church, St. Stephen. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call at the St. Stephen Chapel of Dial-Murray Funeral Home from 6 until 8 p.m. this Friday evening.

Mrs. Browder was born Feb. 12, 1917, in Kingstree, S.C., a daughter of the late John Wesley Taylor and Martha Elizabeth Howard Taylor. She was the widow of Andrew Jackson Browder. Mrs. Browder was a member of the First Baptist Church, St. Stephen.

Surviving are three daughters, Ruby Lee Dennis of Bonneau, Joyce Mullis of Moncks Corner, and Annette Sowell of St. Stephen; a son, James Browder of St. Stephen; a brother, W. Junior Taylor of Andrews; nine grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Robert Durham

WINNSBORO — Graveside services for Robert Durham, 99, 2 p.m. Saturday in White Oak Baptist Church Cemetery. He was born in Ridgeway to Robert and Bessie Jackson Durham. Surviving: daughter, Bessie Matthews, Wash. D.C.; siblings, Luvenia Green, Chamber Durham, Buffalo, N.Y., Wilamenia Whitener, Spartanburg; grand, great, and great-great-grandchildren. Gibson’s Funeral Services is in charge.

Daisy Berry

COLUMBIA — Funeral service for Mrs. Daisy Leviner Berry, 86, of Columbia, will be held 3 o’clock Monday afternoon, February 28, 2005, at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o’clock Sunday evening in the funeral home.

Mrs. Berry, widow of Woodrow Berry, died Tuesday, February 22, 2005. Born in Bennettsville, SC, she was a daughter of the late W.J. and Mary Catherine Leviner. She retired as an LPN from the State Park Health Center in 1982. Mrs. Berry then began working at the Bryan Center Nursing Home and retired in August of 1995. She attended Church of God of Prophecy in Blythewood. All who came to know her will dearly miss her; she is gone in body, but her spirit remains.

Survivors include: her son, James W. Collins and his wife, Maureen of Sacramento, CA; grandson, Michael Collins of Lodi, CA; granddaughter, Debbie Naves of Sacramento, CA; three great grandchildren all of Sacramento, CA; nieces, Mrs. Dorothy Carroll of Columbia, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Watts of West Columbia, Mrs. Earline Grisham of Bennettsville and Mrs. Peggy Gainey of Macon, GA; nephews, Willard Quick and Buddy Quick of Bennettsville.

John China

GREELEYVILLE — Services and burial for John Edward China, 64, 1 p.m. Saturday at St. James Baptist Church. Dimery & Rogers Funeral Home, Kingstree, is in charge. Born to John China and Mary Johnson, he died Feb. 21, 2005. Surviving: wife, Margie China; father; children, Gwendolyn McCutchen, Marvin China, Jackie Montgomery, Tamika Chavis; siblings, Freddie, James, Ricky, Dorothy, Margie; others.

Mildred Foxworth

BISHOPVILLE — Mildred Josey Foxworth, 96, widow of Thomas Daniel Foxworth, Jr., died Wednesday, February 23, 2005, in Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.

Born in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late Luther Fleming Josey and the late Edith Scarborough Josey.

Mrs. Foxworth was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bishopville and had retired from Levenson’s after 30 years of service. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Manville Lodge #44, for 67 years and served as the lodge secretary for more than 50 years.

Survivors include a son, Daniel Merriell Foxworth and his wife, Earline of Bishopville; a daughter, Harriett Foxworth Skinner and her husband, Don of Aiken; a brother, Luther Fleming Josey, Jr. and his wife, Mary of St. Charles; three sisters, Floride J. Reynolds of Andrews, Wave J. Parks of Lexington, and Lucia J. Caldwell and her husband, Jim of Prosperity; two sisters-in-law, Elva H. Josey of Beaufort, and Catherine F. Griggs and her husband, Bobby of Holly Hill; seven stepgrandchildren; 11 stepgreat-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Bishopville with Rev. Dale Warren officiating.

Burial will be in the Piedmont Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home and other times at the home, 518 West Church St.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Bishopville, 229 West Church St., Bishopville, SC 29010 or to a charity of one’s choice.

Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home of Bishopville is in charge of arrangements.

Sara Granger

MCCOLL — Sara Bearden Granger, 74, died Feb. 24, 2005. Service will be held at Main St. United Methodist Church, Feb. 26, 2005, at 3 p.m. with burial in Rogers Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Main St. United Methodist Church Fri. night from 6 to 9 p.m.

Born in Atlanta, GA, she was a daughter of the late Barney B. and Lula Bell Lynch Bearden. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Tunney Granger. Mrs. Granger retired from Campbell Soup Company and was a member of Main St. United Methodist Church.

Survivors: daughters: Brenda Jones, Laurinburg, N.C., Iris Granger, McColl, S.C., Beverly Quick, McColl, S.C.; 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Virginia Campbell

CAMDEN — Graveside services for Virginia Rhoad Campbell, 90, will be held on Saturday, February 26, 2005, at 11 a.m. in Quaker Cemetery. Rev. Lee Bryant will officiate. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 25, 2005, from 6-7:30 p.m. at Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel. Memorials may be made to Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church, 1206 Lyttleton Street, Camden, SC 29020, or to the A. Sam Karesh Longterm Care Garden Fund, Haile & Roberts Street, Camden, SC 29020.

Mrs. Campbell, widow of Herbert Allison Campbell, died Thursday, February 24, 2005. Born in Bamberg, S.C., on June 27, 1914, the daughter of the late Thomas N., Sr. and Nita Walker Rhoad. Mrs. Campbell was a retired registered nurse. She was a graduate of Bamberg High School, the Camden Hospital School of Nursing and a member of Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church.

Surviving are a son, Herbert A. Campbell and his wife, Terry, of Camden, brother, Thomas N. Rhoad, Jr. of Branchville, granddaughters, Kellie C. Bates of Sammamish, WA, and Aimee C. Culler of Mooresville, N.C., great-grandchildren, Haley, Kelsey, and Campbell Bates, Coley and Walker Culler. She was predeceased by a sister, Blanche R. Hinson and brother, Ned B. Rhoad, Sr.

Esau Hammond

HOLLY HILL — Services for Esau Carl Hammond are 1 p.m. Saturday at Evangelistic Temple Way of the Cross, Kingstree. Burial in St. Mary AME Churchyard, Salters. Wake is 8 tonight at Dimery & Rogers Funeral Home, Kingstree. Born to Lee and Eva Hammond, he died Feb. 22, 2005. Surviving: wife, Loree Hammond; children, Derrick, Vincent, Melanie Hammond, Johnnie Walters, Latrilla Izzard, Mattie Fulton.

Ivy Hewlett

HILTON HEAD ISLAND — Ivy Kinard Hewlett, 89, died in LifeCare Center of Hilton Head, Hilton Head Island, S.C., on February 23, 2005. She was born on July 13, 1915, in Fairfax, S.C. She was the daughter of the late Martin Anderson and Catherine Padgett Kinard.

She was a homemaker, active member of the First Baptist Church of Allendale, enjoyed cooking and taking care of her grandchildren.

She is survived by one son, John H. Hewlett, Jr. of Estill, S.C.; one daughter, Camille H. Wyman of Bluffton, S.C.; one sister, Margaret Crosby of Asheville, N.C.; five grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Hampton Hewlett and her daughter, Nancy Ann Hewlett.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, February 26, 2005, at the First Baptist Church of Allendale. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Saturday till the hour of service. Burial will be in the Fairfax Cemetery in Fairfax, S.C.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the First Baptist Church of Allendale, 259 Memorial Avenue South, Allendale, SC 29810.

Sauls Funeral Home in Ridgeland, S.C., is assisting the family with their arrangements.
