Lance Achelpohl

PROSPERITY — Services for Lance Arthur Achelpohl, 56, of Prosperity, will be held at 2pm Saturday at Trinity Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Donald P. Davis, Rev. John M. Stoudemayer, and Rev. Thomas O. Mosser. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Judge Barry Koon, Randy Floyd, Willie Ringer, Rhett Fellows, Andy Ackerman, and Billy Ackerman. The family will receive friends from 10:00am until 12 noon Saturday at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriners’ Hospital for Children, 950 W. Faris Rd., Greenville, SC 29605.

Mr. Achelpohl died Wednesday, February 23, 2005. Born in Greenville, he was the son of the late Milton Arthur and Barbara Jean Mosser Achelpohl. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force having served during the Vietnam War. He was co-owner of Achelpohl Roofing & Sheetmetal, Inc. with his brother Wayne. Mr. Achelpohl was a member of Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church in Little Mountain and a former member of Trinity Baptist Church. He was the former president of the Newberry Shrine Club and a member of Masonic Lodge #281, Little Mountain.

Surviving are his wife, Christina “Chris” Hallman Achelpohl of Prosperity; daughters and sons-in-law, Connie Achelpohl Malpass and Rob Malpass of West Columbia, Kristin Achelpohl Jensen and Bobby Jensen of Columbia, Kara Achelpohl Hugg and Jonathan Hugg of West Columbia; brothers, Wayne Davis Achelpohl of Prosperity, Michael Louis Glover of Columbia; step-mother, Hope L. Achelpohl of Rhode Island; step-sisters, Fern Early, Chris Klinkhammer, and Lynn Hearne, all of Rhode Island; step-brother, Maurice Flewelling of Santee; grandchildren, Andrew Robert Malpass, Joshua Lance Malpass, Jaidyn Kristina Malpass, and Austin Michael Hugg.

Anner Madden

AIKEN — Anner Cleo Shealy Madden, 82, widow of Jessie Leon Madden, died Monday, February 21, 2005, in Azaleawoods Nursing Facility, Aiken, SC. She was born in Batesburg, SC, on December 2, 1922, daughter of the late Pope Lee Shealy and Lovelady Barefoot Shealy. She was a homemaker and a member of Maranatha Baptist Church in Aiken, SC.

She is survived by four daughters, Mary Sivertsen of Ridgeville, SC, Izora Owens of Jackson, SC, Addie Lee Gamo of Phoenix, AZ, and Janice McCaw of Gilbert, SC; one son, Otis M. Priester of Aiken, SC; fifteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Friday, February 25, 2005, at Gillisonville Baptist Church, Gillisonville, SC, with burial in the church cemetery.

Sauls Funeral Home of Ridgeland, SC, is assisting the family with their arrangements.

Bob Rude

SALUDA — Robert “Bob” Coke Rude, 54, of 104 Trinity Rd., Saluda, died Friday, February 25, 2005, following a long battle with cancer. Born in Newberry County, July 29, 1950, he was the son of Vivian Bradley Scurry and the late Harry F. Rude.

He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam era, a member of the General Martin W. Gary Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp of Edgefield, S.C., where he served as editor, and also a lifetime member of the 13th S.C. Confederate re-enactors. His lifetime hobby was collecting Indian artifacts. He also enjoyed researching S.C. Confederate soldiers and placing V.A. markers on the unmarked graves.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Joyce Perry Rude, two sons, Joshua Robert Rude and Chad Perry Rude, both of the home; brothers, Harry B. Rude, Fred Rude, Steve Scurry, all of Saluda and a sister, Suzanne Greenhill of Snowcamp, N.C.

Funeral service will be at 3 o’clock Sunday, at Faith Temple Church, Hwy. 702, Saluda, with the Rev. Danny Swinnea and Rev. John Turner officiating, with burial in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends, Saturday night, from 6 to 8, at Ramey Funeral Home in Saluda.

Ramey Funeral Home is in charge.

Charles Brown

NORTH AUGUSTA — Mr. Charles W. “Billy” Brown III, 46, passed from this life February 25, 2005.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 27, 3 p.m. at Sweetwater Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Sweetwater Cemetery.

Billy was born December 31, 1958, and was a life-long resident of North Augusta. He was employed by the SCE&G Urquhart Plant.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Brown of North Augusta; his father, Charles W. Brown Jr. of North Augusta and mother, Ashley Brown of Augusta; three daughters, Lisa Dixon Woodward of North Augusta, Shellie D. (Andy) Redwood of North Augusta, Kellie D. (David) Burnett of Edgefield; two sisters, Janet (Michael) Alday of Greenville, and Lillian Brown of North Augusta; one brother, Claude Brown of Columbia; three grandchildren, Clayton Woodward, Erin Redwood and Allison Burnett; one nephews, Travis Brown; three nieces, Alison and Jaclyn Alday and Meagan Brown.

The family will receive friends at Rowland Funeral Home on 637 W. Martintown Road, N. Augusta from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, February 26.

Memorials may be made to the MCG Cancer Center Fund, 919 15th St., Augusta, GA 30912 or to St. Joseph’s Hospice at 2260 Wrightsboro Road, Augusta, GA 30904.

Lucille Hutto

BAMBERG — Lucille Fogle Hutto, 84, of 15400 Heritage Hwy., Bamberg, SC 29003, widow of Fred Thomas “Tick” Hutto, died Feb. 24, 2005, in Bamberg County Nursing Center. Born July 18, 1920, in Orangeburg, S.C., to the late John Henry Fogle and the late Dona Pickering Fogle, she was a homemaker and employed many years as a clerk at Rentz Ladies Store. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Bamberg and the Mary Moy Sunday School Class, where she served as Secretary/Treasurer, and also taught the Children’s Sunbeams and Acteens. She was a member of Clemson Home Demonstration Club and Bamberg County Hospital Auxiliary.

Funeral services will be Sunday, February 27, 2005, at 3 p.m. at Cooner Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dr. Tom Reeves officiating and burial following in Bamberg County Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005, from 6-8 p.m. at Cooner Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 355, Bamberg, SC 29003 or to Bamberg County Nursing Center Activities Fund, P.O. Box 507, Bamberg, SC 29003.

Survivors: four children: son, Tommy and Rosie Hutto of Bamberg, S.C., 3 daughters, Dianne and Ralph Morrell of Bamberg, Dona and Jimmy Gates of Cameron and Kathy Hutto of Bamberg; 1 sister, Katherine “Kat” Sutcliffe of Beaufort; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.

Bobby Valentine

ORANGEBURG — Mr. Bobby L. Valentine, 64, entered into rest Thursday, February 24th, 2005, at his 255 Shillings Bridge Road residence. Mr. Valentine was born in Orangeburg County. He was the son of the late John David and Fannie Mae Huges Valentine. Mr. Valentine was also preceded in death by children Dora Smith and Gerald Bonner. He was a Vietnam Conflict veteran and retired from the S.C. National Guard after serving in the U.S. Army. Mr. Valentine is survived by his wife, Willie Mae Wood Valentine of the home, sons, James “Buddy” Bonner and David Bonner, daughters, Bobbie Valentine, Nellie Rae Adkins, Mae Lawson and Linda Lange, 27 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, brothers, John C. Valentine, Ernest Valentine, Jackie Valentine and Donald Valentine and sister, Rose Mary McAlhany. Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 27th, at 3 p.m. in the Wagener Chapel of Blizzard Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Crestlawn Memorial Gardens with full military honors. Visitation will be Saturday, February 26th from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Wagener Chapel of Blizzard Funeral Home, 163 Main St., South (803) 564-5333.

Florence Wheeler

LITTLE MOUNTAIN — Florence Shealy Wheeler, 98, formerly of Little Mountain, widow of C. Maloy Wheeler, died Thursday, February 24, 2005, in the Lowman Home.

Mrs. Wheeler was born on June 15, 1906, in Little Mountain, a daughter of the late Rufus B. and Rosa Belle Sease Shealy. She was a homemaker and a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Wheeler is survived by two sisters, Louise S. Bedenbaugh of Prosperity and Christine S. Metts of Columbia and one brother Cary C. Shealy of Summerton.

Graveside funeral services for Florence S. Wheeler will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday in the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery by the Rev. Karl Suhr.

Memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Building Fund, PO Box 186, Little Mountain SC 29075 or to the Lutheran Hospice of the Midlands, 1505 Blanding St., Columbia, SC 29201.

Thelma Cotton

WINNSBORO — Thelma B. Cotton, 80, of Winnsboro, died Thursday, February 24. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, February 27, 2005, in Oaklawn Cemetery with the Reverend Lloyd Sanders officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, February 26, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Pope Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Washington Street Baptist Church, 401 N. Vanderhorst Street, Winnsboro, SC 29180, or a charity of your choice.

Born in Blaney, S.C., Mrs. Cotton was the daughter of the late Mack A. and Ollie E. Branham. She was a member of Washington Street Baptist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband of 59 years, W. Earl Cotton; one daughter, Linda C. Castles of Columbia; one grandson, Paul E. Castles of Lake Wateree; one great-granddaughter, Emma Louise Castles of Lake Wateree; two sisters, Mrs. James L. Caddell of Washington , Ga., and Mrs. W.R. Weir of Camden, S.C. She was predeceased by one brother, Grady C. Branham.

Rebecca Blackmon

BENNETTSVILLE — Rebecca Ivey Blackmon, 63, died Thursday, February 24, 2005. Born in Laurinburg, N.C., she was a daughter of Mae Bell Grooms Ivey and the late John Leonard Ivey. She was the widow of Ronald Blackmon. She attended Ebenezer United Methodist Church. She liked shopping, socializing, and planting flowers.

Surviving are three sons, Ronnie, Keith and John Blackmon, all of Bennettsville, S.C., her mother, Mae Bell Ivey of Springfield, N.C., a brother, Grady Ivey of Gibson, N.C., a sister, Barbara Jean Jacobs of Laurel Hill, NC, and 6 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father and husband listed above, also, a daughter, Donna Jean Blackmon.

A funeral service will be held 4 p.m. Saturday, February 26, 2005, at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Bennettsville, S.C. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Memorials to: The American Cancer Society or the Wallace Fire Department.
