DENMARK — Services for Nyles Rowell, 78, 3 p.m. Wednesday: First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Burial: Springfield Cemetery. Visitation: 6-8 tonight at Mercer Funeral Home. Born in Orangeburg Co. to Leon and Annie D. Rowell, he died Feb. 27, 2005. Surviving: wife, Jane; children, Michael, Patrick Rowell, Melissa Kizer, Melinda McCormack, Stephanie Murry, Jennifer McFarland; sisters; grandchildren.

Louis Skaggs

FAIRFAX — Services for Louis Jackson Skaggs, 59, Air Force veteran, of 739 Terry Road, are private. Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home, Hampton, is in charge. Born in Caperton, W.Va., to Carl and Irene Hicks Skaggs, he died February 27, 2005. Surviving: children, Theresa McBroom of Iowa, Cynthia Skaggs of W.Va., Kristopher Skaggs of Virginia; sisters, Patsy Harrah of Fairfax, Nancy Stanley of Farmville, Va.

Harvey Roof

LEESVILLE — Memorial services for Harvey A. Roof, 62, will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at Cedar Grove Lutheran Church. Officiating will be Rev. Gary Brandenburg and Rev. Kathleen Panning. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel is in charge. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cedar Grove Lutheran Church, 1220 Cedar Grove Road, Leesville, SC 29070 or Lexington School Dist. One Educational Foundation.

Mr. Roof died Monday, February 28, 2005. He was the son of the late H. Alton and Rubie Slice Roof. He was member of Cedar Grove Lutheran Church. He was also retired from Delta Airlines and currently employed by Lexington School District One.

He is survived by his wife, Rochelle Roof of Leesville; daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Brian Gary of Savannah, GA; son, Clarke Roof of Savannah, GA; step-daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Keith Adams of Clemmons, N.C.; stepgrandchildren, Caroline and Andrew Adams of Clemmons, N.C.; brother and sister-in-law, Rev. Elford and Mary Roof of West Columbia; sisters and brothers-in-law, Frieda and Jerry Snelgrove, Jane and Godfrey Burnett, Mary and Marion Maner, all of Lexington; and numerous nieces and nephews.

William Robinson

CHARLESTON — Entered into eternal rest on the morning of February 28, 2005, William Dickson “Dickie” Robinson, widower of Sarah Lorene Peninger Robinson. The relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral services in Bethel United Methodist Church at two o’clock, Wednesday, March 2, 2005. Interment, Old St. Andrew’s Parish Episcopal Churchyard. Friends may call at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Downtown Chapel, Tuesday between five and seven o’clock.

Mr. Robinson was born June 2, 1910, in Hendersonville, South Carolina, the son of Randal Dickson Robinson and Catherine Ann Fraysse Robinson. He was a 1929 graduate of The High School of Charleston. He worked with the SCE&G Power Company for 17 years prior to founding the WD Robinson Electric Company in 1943. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church for eighty-four years, where he was a former president of the Adult Sunday School Class. He was Past Master of Orange Masonic Lodge #68, Charter Member of Charleston Electric Contractors Association, active member in The Charleston Chamber of Commerce, The Executives Association and The Navy League. After his retirement he enjoyed traveling and visiting friends in Europe and Iceland.

He is survived by two sons: William Dickson Robinson, Jr. and his wife Becky of Lexington, S.C., Randal Martin Robinson and his wife Kitty of Charleston, S.C.; one daughter: Sarah Robinson Graham and her husband Jack of Richmond, VA; eight grandchildren: William Dickson Robinson, III and his wife Wendy, Daniel Martin Robinson and his wife Suzanne, Laura Robinson Currence and her husband Petey, Elizabeth Robinson Moss and her husband Gary, Sarah Young Robinson, Katharine Cronhardt Robinson, Sarah Peninger Graham and Catherine Robinson Graham; eight great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church, 57 Pitt Street, Charleston, SC 29401.

Dorothy Ross

DILLON — Services for Dorothy Rush Ross will be held 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2005, in Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.

Mrs. Ross, 91, died Sunday, February 27, 2005, in McLeod Medical Center in Dillon.

Born in Callison, SC, September 16, 1913, she was the daughter of the late James Rush and Tempie Deal Rush. She was a member of East Dillon Baptist Church, was a graduate of Winnsboro High School in Ninety Six, SC, and retired as a Supervisor after over forty years with Dillon Manufacturing. Mrs. Ross was the widow of the late Oscar Blease (O.B.) Ross.

Survivors include her sons, James Wallace Ross of Spartanburg, SC and Charles Truman Ross of Jacksonville, FL; 5 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Ross was preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Ammons; son, Tommy Ross; sisters, Margaret Bradshaw and Evelyn Hedgepath; brother, Thomas Rush.

Willa Martin

COLUMBIA — Funeral Services for Mrs. Willa Dixon Martin, 81, of Columbia, will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday at Greenlawn Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Public viewing will be held 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday and the family will receive friends at 1 p.m. until the hour of service on Wednesday at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent to www.mem.com. Greenlawn Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Mrs. Martin died Saturday, February 26, 2005. Born in Columbia, SC, she was the daughter of the late Hart Dixon and Mary Lorick Dixon. Mrs. Martin had retired as an educator from Richland County School District One and was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. She was also a member of The Edgewood Community Club, a Golden Life Member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Jack and Jill, Richland County Teachers Association, and The Pink Ladies Volunteers with Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Martin was predeceased by her former husband, Mr. Thomas Sinkler Martin.

Surviving are her loving children, Tommye McMillan of Columbia, SC, Willa Martin Bailey and her husband Edward of Franklin, TN, and Gerald Thomas Martin of Columbia, SC; one brother, Dr. Hart Dixon of Yeadon, PA; three grandchildren, Sydni Collins, Eric McMillan and Michael McMillan; and one great grandchild, Briheem Hamilton.

Boyce Robinson

ELGIN — Services for Mr. Boyce Lee Robinson, of 113 Belle Oaks Drive, will be held 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at First Nazareth Baptist Church with burial in Memorial Gardens of Columbia. Memorials may be made to Barber-Scotia College, C/O the Boyce L. Robinson Memorial Scholarship Fund, 145 Cabarrus Ave, Concord, NC 28925. Palmer Memorial Chapel is in charge.

Mr. Robinson died Thursday, February 24, 2005. Born in Spartanburg, he was the son of Carey and Margaret Rogers Robinson. He attended First Nazareth Baptist Church. He was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity.

Surviving are his wife, Jessie M. Robinson; children, Stephanie, Alethea and Marcus Robinson; his parents of Spartanburg; brothers and sisters, Milius and Daniel Robinson and Carnell Collins, Mildred Robinson, Brenda Spencer, Gloria Locke and Cathy Carr.

John Robertson

GRAYSON, Ga. — John A. Robertson, age 75, of Grayson, Ga., died Sunday, February 27, 2005. Funeral Services will be held 1 P.M. Thursday, March 3, 2005, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Lawrenceville, Ga. Burial: East Shadowlawn Memorial Gardens, Lawrenceville. A member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Lawrenceville, Mr. Robertson moved from South Carolina in 2001 and was an insurance auditor. He was preceded in death by his son, John Arte Robertson, Jr. in 1951, and is survived by wife, Helen E. Robertson, Grayson, Ga.; children, Richard & Bonnie Robertson, Lexington, S.C., Jim & Penny Robertson, Henderson, Nev., Brenda & Eric Day, Sterling, Va., Mike & Tammy Robertson, Kennewick, Wash., Carol & Larry Cheesman, Grayson, Ga., David & Julie Robertson, West Jordan, Utah, Diane & Doug Horsley, Lawrenceville, Ga. Mary Robertson, Norcross, Ga., Mark & Kristen Robertson, Thompson Station, Tenn.; sister, Nita Cooper, Baltimore, Md.; 46 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, several nieces & nephews. Patsy Lohr

WALTERBORO — Mrs. Patsy Anne Jones Lohr, wife of William Thomas Lohr, died Sunday afternoon at her residence, 510 Lynwood Road in Walterboro. She was 63.

Mrs. Lohr was born in Johnson County, NC, July 28, 1941, a daughter of Erna Lee Watson Jones and the late Herbert Jones. She was a graduate of Boyden High School in Salisbury, NC, and later received her AB Degree in Primary Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. As a lifelong educator, Mrs. Lohr taught at many different schools. She taught at Jamestown Elementary School in Jamestown, NC, from 1964-1969, at Ivenia Brown Elementary School from 1982-1984, and in Colleton County at Hampton Street Elementary School from 1969-1970, and again from 1984 until 2001. She was also a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Walterboro.

Surviving, besides her husband of Walterboro and her mother of Salisbury, NC, are: 1 son: Jonathan Thomas Lohr, of Beaufort. 1 daughter: Tracy Diane Lohr, of Orlando, FL. 1 brother: Herb Jones, of Vicksburg, Miss.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 3:30 at the Mausoleum in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens on the Hendersonville Highway in Walterboro. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in her memory to Palmetto Health Hospice, POB 50820, Summerville, SC 29485-0820 or to The Colleton County Animal Shelter, 33 Poor Farm Road, Walterboro, SC 29488. Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro, is in charge of arrangements.

Inez Lawrimore

HEMINGWAY — Inez Newell Lawrimore, 90, wife of the late J. Baker Lawrimore, died Monday morning at her residence after an illness.

Mrs. Lawrimore was born in Hemingway, a daughter of the late H. Finley and Hattie Cribb Newell. She was a member of Hemingway First Baptist Church where she served as a Youth Sunday School Teacher, choir member, member of W.M.U., and a G.A. Leader. Mrs. Lawrimore also taught English as a second language.

Surviving are four sons, J.B. (Joyce) Lawrimore and Gary (Etta) Lawrimore both of Florence, Rodger Lawrimore of Hemingway, and Terry W. Lawrimore of Herndon, VA; a daughter, H. Lougene (William) Sheely of Ballentine; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and two brothers, Marion Newell of Hemingway and Clarence Newell of San Antonio, TX.

Mrs. Lawrimore was preceded in death by a son, Wayne Lawrimore.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 3, 2005, at Hemingway First Baptist Church with interment following in Lawrimore Memorial Cemetery directed by Morris Funeral Home of Hemingway. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Hemingway First Baptist Church, PO Box 485, Hemingway, SC 29554.

Virginia Leaphart

LEXINGTON — Services for Jessie Virginia Gladden Leaphart, 85, of Lexington, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Lexington United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Richard H. “Dickie” Knight and Rev. Mark Hathcox. Burial will follow in Woodridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington.

Mrs. Leaphart, widow of Nathan Q. Leaphart, died Monday, February 28, 2005. Born in Great Falls, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Rev. Herbert J. Gladden, Sr. and Cynthia Cornelia Easler Gladden. Formerly of Great Falls, she had been an area resident since 1935. She was a member of Lexington United Methodist Church and was retired from Lexington School District No. 1.

Surviving are her daughter, Cynthia L. Dickey of West Columbia; sons and daughters-in-law, Tommy Leaphart of Lexington, Keith and Lori Leaphart and Chris and Cheryl Leaphart, all of West Columbia; sisters, Judy Coker of Lexington, Dorothy Barfield of Florence; brother, Rev. Herbert J. Gladden, Jr. of Lexington; nine grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. Mrs. Leaphart was predeceased by her daughter, Sylvia L. Hulsey; granddaughter, Melanie Hulsey; two sisters and two brothers.
