SUMMERTON — Services for Adger Cowan “A.C.” Brock Jr., 80, retired manager for Fluor-Daniels, 2 p.m. Thursday (visitation 5-7 tonight): Stephens Funeral Home, Manning. Burial: Clarendon Memorial Park. Born in Seneca to Adger Sr. and Lorraine Poore Brock, he died March 1, 2005. Surviving: wife, Willadean Ray Brock; daughter, Teresa Steadman; stepdaughter, Phyllis Rhye; grandchildren.

Jessie Charles

BLAIR — Services with burial for Jessie M. Charles, 75, widow of King D. Charles, will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday (2:30 p.m. viewing) at Hassion Hill Baptist Church. Gibson’s Funeral Services, Winnsboro, is in charge. She was a daughter of Willie and Sallie Toliver Seabrooks. Surviving are her children, Martha Harvey, Cora L., Johnnie, Willie and Marvin Charles; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

James Watson

SALUDA — James “Pete” Watson died Sunday, February 27, 2005, in Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood, SC, born in Saluda, SC, a son of the late Joe B. and Fannie M. Watson.

Survivors are one brother, Thomas Watson of Passaic, N.J., two sisters, Ellie M. Dozier of Columbia, SC, and Carrie West of Saluda, SC.

Service will be Thursday at 1 p.m., Lockhart Baptist Church, Saluda, SC, Reverend H. Jenkins, pastor, Reverend Raymond Adams officiating. Logan Funeral in charge of arrangements.

Annie Butler

COLUMBIA — Services for Annie “Jennie” Pinckney Butler, BTW H.S. graduate, are 3 p.m. Thursday at First Nazareth Baptist Church, where she was a member. Burial: Palmetto Cemetery. Visitation: 7-8 tonight at Bostick-Tompkins Funeral Home. Born in Columbia to Clarence and Louise H. Pinckney, she died Feb. 26, 2005. Surviving: son, Muttaqin Abdullah; siblings, Mary, Frances, Clarence Pinckney.

Marjorie Griffin

COLUMBIA — Services for Marjorie Brewer Griffin, widow of Willie Griffin, are 3 p.m. Thursday: Central Baptist Church. Burial: Palmetto Cemetery. Bostick-Tompkins Funeral Home is in charge. Born in Winnsboro to James Brewer and Mattie Bell Pickett, she died February 25, 2005. Surviving: children, Juanita, Brenda, Cynthia, Ladevia, Marlisa, Willie, Vincent and Melvin; 3 sisters; 3 brothers; grandchildren.

Bobby Geddings Sr.

SUMTER — Services with burial for Bobby Joseph Geddings Sr., 62, 3 p.m. Thursday: Bethel Baptist Church, visitation 6-8 tonight: Elmore-Cannon-Stephens F.H. Born in Sumter Co. to Clifton and Beatrice Barkley Geddings Peebles, he died Feb. 28, 2005. Surviving: wife, Loretta Hodge Geddings; children, Bobby Geddings Jr., Lisa Powalie; siblings, Clifton, Phil, Tommy, Jerry, David Geddings, Betty Moore.

William Mangum

ATLANTA — Graveside services for William C. Mangum, 95, of Atlanta, Ga., formerly of Lugoff, S.C., will be held Thursday, March 3, 2005, at 11 a.m. at Lugoff First Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Henry Stanford and Rev. Greg Sweet will officiate.

Mr. Mangum died Sunday, February 27, 2005. Born in Jefferson, S.C., he was the son of the late William Thomas and Annie Byrd Mangum. Surviving are his children, Mr. and Mrs. William Mangum Jr. of Eatonton, Ga., Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Mangum of Fredericksburg, Va., Mr. Riley Mangum of Lexington, Ky., Mr. and Mrs. John (Mona Mangum) Koberrus of Alpharetta, Ga.; grandchildren, Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Mangum of Lawrenceville, Ga., Mr. and Mrs. Troy Mangum of Virginia Beach, Va., Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Mueller of Augusta, Ga.; 3 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mrs. Bessie Lee Jenkins of Chesterfield, S.C., Mrs. Irene Gettys, Mrs. Ruth Brendel, both of Lugoff, and Mrs. Vera Walker of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Mrs. Byrd Fash of Wilmington, N.C. He was predeceased by his wife, Ruby Evans Mangum, 2 brothers, James Mangum, Edward Mangum, and 2 sisters, Sue Smith and Ethel Hatsell.

Portia Loner

WEST COLUMBIA — Funeral service for Mrs. Portia Raines Loner, 84, of West Columbia, will be held two o’clock Thursday afternoon, March 3, 2005, at Sandy Level Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 o’clock this (Wednesday) evening at Shives Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Lexington Gardens, Training Fund, 190 McSwain Dr., West Columbia, SC 29169.

Mrs. Loner, widow of Albert Eugene Loner, died Tuesday, March 1, 2005. Born in Blythewood, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Ernest and Evelyn Neeley Raines. She was a member of Sandy Level Baptist Church and Eastern Star Dentsville Chapter 273.

Survivors include her sons, Larry Loner of Lexington and Wayne Loner of Oxford, Mississippi; daughters, Eve Petty of Sugarland, Texas , and Judy Loner of Taylorsville, Utah; 8 grandchildren; Robert Petty of Sugarland, Texas , Debbie Loner of Oxford, Miss., Paul Loner of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Michael Loner of St. Albans, Vt., Michelle Loner of Winooalli, Vt., Justin Loner and Misty Loner, both of Taylorsville, Utah, and Wesley Loner of Oxford, Miss.; great-grandchildren, Taylor of Sugarland, Texas , Tyler and Jasmine, both of Winooalli, Vt., and Dominic of Taylorsville, Utah; brothers, Furman Raines of Columbia, Joe Raines of Blythewood and Clarence Raines of West Columbia; sister, Ollie Steadman of Columbia. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Loner was preceded in death by sisters, Laura Marthers and Bertha Youngner; brother, Curtis Raines and daughter, Patricia Loner.

Col. Francis Cloaninger

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — Col. Francis “Frank” A. Cloaninger, 83, a former Air Force Command Pilot, passed away February 28, 2005. He was a native of Columbia, S.C., and had been a resident at Patriots Colony, Williamsburg, for eight years.

He was a member of the Retired Officers Association, the Daedalians, and the Methodist Men’s group. He was also an ex POW, “Peninsula Chapter.” During WWII, he flew B-24s with the 454th Bomb group out of Italy. His plane was shot down over Blechhammer Oil Refineries in Germany and he was a POW in Stalag Luft III from 1944-1945.

In 1953 he entered the Information Technology field and served as Director of Data Operations at Langley AFB, VA, and Headquarters PACAF. He was also the Vice Commander of the Air Force Accounting and Finance Center in Denver, CO. His decorations include two Legions of Merit. In 1972 he retired from the U.S. Air Force after thirty years of service and then joined the LTV Corporation, Arlington, TX, as Director of Information Services.

Since retirement in 1985, Frank has enjoyed golf, his family, church activities and POW reunions. He was loved by all for his positive and fun loving personality.

He is survived by his loving wife of almost 60 years, Margie C. Cloaninger, his daughters, Judy A. Petersen and Pamela C. Newman; his grandchildren, Emily and Sally Petersen and Jennifer and Caroline Newman; and also his brother, James M. Cloaninger.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 4th, at Williamsburg United Methodist Church, 514 Jamestown Road, Reverend David Rockford, Dr. Kurt Mariner and Reverend Janna Roche officiating. Burial services, with full military honors, will be held Thursday, March 17th, in Arlington National Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Williamsburg UMC or the charity of your choice.

Agnes Posey

GRANITEVILLE — Services for Agnes Turner Posey, 88, widow of Thomas Joel Posey Sr., will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, March 3, 2005, at the chapel of Napier Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Graniteville Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight, Wednesday, March 2, 2005, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home, 315 Main Street, Graniteville, SC 29829. Mrs. Posey died February 28, 2005.

Murray Marcus

EVANS, Ga. — Murray A. “Chubby” Marcus, 84, of Evans, Ga., died suddenly Monday, February 28, 2005.

He was born in Savannah, Ga., and lived in Savannah until 1945. He then moved to Tifton, Ga., where he lived until he moved to Evans, Ga., in 1995. He was a veteran of WW II, having served as a pilot in the U.S. Navy.

He was a member of the Fitzgerald Hebrew Congregation in Fitzgerald, Ga., and Congregation B’nai Brith Jacob Synagogue in Savannah, Ga.

He was Past Exalted Ruler of B.P.O.E. Lodge # 1114 (Elk’s Lodge) in Tifton, Ga., and Past Vice President of the Kiwanis Club of Tifton, Ga., Past Director and Chairman of the Board of the Citizens Bank of Tifton, in Tifton, Ga., Director of Greater Baldwin Association in Tifton, Ga., Director of Tifton - Tift County Library, and Tift Area Board of Realtors.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Kulbersh Marcus, and his parents, Harry and Tillie Marcus.

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Bonnie Marcus; a daughter and son-in-law, Toni and Sam Elkins; sister, Cherie Marcus Minkovitz; 4 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside services are 2 p.m. Wednesday in Bonaventure Cemetery, with Rabbi Avigdor Slatus officiating.

Remembrances may be made to a charity of your choice.

Anna Stefanski

KINGSTREE — Mrs. Anna Royko Stefanski, 91, widow of Walter Stefanski, died Monday, February 28, 2005, in her daughter’s home in Kingstree.

Mrs. Stefanski was born November 22, 1913, in Beaverdale, Pa., a daughter of the late John and Anna Trusko Royko. She had retired from Dunn-McCarthy Co. in Binghamton, N.Y. She was a former member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Binghamton and, while in Kingstree, attended St. Ann’s Catholic Church. Mrs. Stefanski was preceded in death by her son, Walter J. Stefanski, a brother, John Royko, and a sister, Mary Pechanek.

Surviving: a daughter, Judy S. (Bob) Cherinko of Kingstree; a son, Thomas (Patricia) Stefanski of Santa Clarita, Calif.; brother, Joseph (Hedy) Royko of Wayne, N.J.; 4 grandchildren, Holly Stefanski, Stephen Cherinko, Cecelia Stefanski and Thomas Stefanski; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Stefanski of Johnson City, N.Y.; sisters-in-law, Anna Royko of Vestal, N.Y., and Helen Woloszyn of Johnston City, N.Y.

The funeral and interment will be in Johnson City, N.Y., and a memorial service will be held in Kingstree at a later date. Memorials may be made to Tidelands Hospice, St. Ann’s Catholic Church Building Fund or Williamsburg Regional Hospital.
