Leo Sessions

CONWAY — Leo Sessions, age 78, of Highway 501 West, died Monday, February 28, 2005, in Conway Medical Center following an illness.

Mr. Sessions was born in Conway, a son of the late John Doc and Essie Allen Sessions. He was a member of El Bethel United Methodist Church, a Lay Leader, Superintendent, Sunday School teacher, Choir Member and the Men’s Club of El Bethel. Mr. Sessions was a member of the Masonic Lodge #65 AFM, an avid fisherman, hunter and a member of the Darling Lake Hunting Club.

Surviving are his wife, Melvina Dunn Sessions of Conway; one son, O’Neal Sessions and his wife, Betty of Cayce; four grandchildren, Sheri Wooten and her husband, Marty, Neal Sessions and his wife, Thea, Nelson Sessions and Crystal Collum and her husband, Chance; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Monroe Sessions of Conway and Donald Sessions of Pawleys Island.

Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Thursday at El Bethel United Methodist Church with Rev. Sarah Branyon and Rev. Carl Hunsucker officiating. Burial with Masonic rites will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery, directed by Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be sent to El Bethel United Methodist Church, 2811 Hwy 501 West, Conway, SC 29526.

Millard Berry Jr.

NORTH AUGUSTA — Mr. Millard E. “Gene” Berry, Jr., 70, husband of Carol Swaney Berry, of Hermitage Lane, entered into rest Monday, February 28, 2005, in St. Joseph Hospital.

Memorial services will be held today, Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel of Rowland Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Davis officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the memorial service.

Mr. Berry was a native of Knoxville, TN, and had lived in the North Augusta area for most of his life. He had retired from Bechtel at Savannah River Site.

He was preceded in death by a daughter Pam McKie.

Additional survivors include a son, Buddy Berry of Charlotte; two daughters, Cindy Britton of North Augusta and Becky Burchell of Columbia; four brothers, Roy Berry, Bobby Berry, Preston Berry and Billy Berry; a sister, Ina Ruth Thies; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Hospice, 2260 Wrightsboro Road, Augusta, GA 30904 or to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Rowland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Jane Aslund

ROCK HILL — Mrs. Jane Isabel Darby Aslund, 82, of Westminster Towers, Rock Hill, S.C. (formerly a lifetime resident of Chester) died Saturday, February 26, 2005, in Westminster Towers Health & Rehab. She was the beloved wife of the late Charles Birch Aslund.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 4th, at Purity Presbyterian Church with interment in Zion Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Rev. Dr. Dwight Pearson will officiate.

Mrs. Aslund was born in Chester, S.C., August 8, 1922, to the late Theodore Mobley Darby and the late Jane Isabel (Hardee) Darby. She was a graduate of Chester High School and Winthrop College, a homemaker, and a member of Purity Presbyterian Church.

Survivors: 3 sons: Ted Aslund and his wife Jean of Asheville, N.C., Charles B. Aslund, Jr. and his wife Missy of Bluffton, S.C., Carl F. Aslund and his wife Janie of Lexington, S.C.; 2 daughters: Catherine Paquette and her husband Ray of Raleigh, N.C., Jane Isabel Hooper and her husband Bob of Isle of Palms, S.C.; 1 sister: Harriet Darby Lewis of Columbia, S.C.; 1 brother, F. Guy Darby of Lowrys, S.C.; 7 grandchildren: Matt and Joe Campbell of Atlanta, GA, Ted and Tyler Aslund of Lexington, S.C., Hannah Aslund of Bluffton, S.C., Rebecca and Sarah Catherine Hooper of Isle of Palms, S.C.

Memorials may be made to Thornwell Home and School for Children, 300 South Broad Street, Clinton, SC 29325.

The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. Friday at Barron Funeral Home.

William Border

WAYNESVILLE, N.C. — William Scott Border, age 57, of Waynesville, N.C., and Columbia, S.C., passed away on February 28, 2005.

He was born in East Liberty, Ohio, and was the son of the late Charles Richard Border, Sr. and Donna Blackburn Border of Waynesville.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a 1967 graduate of Tuscola High School and Western Carolina University and was a mason. He moved to Columbia, S.C., where he worked 24 years as a sales representative for Ingersol Rand Corporation. He was married to the late Shirley McCracken Border for 35 years.

He is survived by his brother, Chuck Border and his wife, Mary, of Waynesville; nephews, Rick Border of Charlotte, Sid Border and his wife, Deanna, of Asheville; niece Elissa McCracken Brown and husband Luke of Asheboro, N.C. He is also survived by a brother-in-law, Tim McCracken and his wife, Tracy, and father and mother-in-law, Carl and Edith McCracken of Saunook.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 3, 2005, in Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Reverend Eddie Dietz officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home, and at other times, at the home of Chuck Border, 148 Timothy Lane, Waynesville, N.C. Serving as pallbearers will be Rick and Sid Border, Lanny Rollman, Dennis Robbins, Ray Clarridge, Neil Clarridge, Eric Schlein, and Henry Manos. Honorary pallbearers will be Luke Brown, Gary Lee, Art Teston, Butch Helms, Denton Harden, Bob Howard, Jack Price, and Mike Seigler.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 358, Waynesville, NC 28786, the American Cancer Society, 90 Stiles Road, Canton, NC 28716, or a charity of your choice.

James Harrison

PROSPERITY — Graveside service for James E. “Pete” Harrison will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Bellview Baptist Church, Laurens. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6-7 p.m. at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home.

Mr. Harrison, 84, died Monday, February 28, 2005. Born in Porterdale, GA, he was a son of the late James Anderson and Lessie Eaton Harrison. Mr. Harrison was a World War II Army veteran and former Prisoner of War. He was a member of Bellview Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Ophelia Wilson Harrison; a daughter, Sherrie Shealy of Prosperity; a sister, Cora Lee Chilton of Atlanta, GA; two grandchildren.

Robina Currie

AIKEN — Miss Robina Currie, 88, of Crepe Myrtle Drive, Aiken, died Monday, February 28, 2005, in Hitchcock House.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Historic Bethany Cemetery. Rev. Mike Phillips will officiate.

Born in Greenwich, CT, Miss Currie moved to Aiken in 1930. She worked as a secretary and was a member of New Covenant Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by a sister, Jane Santos of Great Barrington, MA; a nephew, James Santos, Great Barrington, MA; a niece, Jayne Tonry, Canton, MA.

Memorials may be directed to New Covenant Presbyterian Church, 526 Hitchcock Parkway, Aiken, SC 29801.

Margaret Holmstock

CALHOUN, Ga. — Mrs. Margaret L. Holmstock, age 88, of Calhoun, and formerly of Columbia, S.C., died Feb. 27.

Mrs. Holmstock was born in Mullins, S.C., on January 12, 1917, a daughter of the late Alexander L. and Maggie Harrelson Lane. She had retired from the U.S. Veterans Administration and was a former member of the Kathwood Baptist Church and the Columbia Women’s Club. She was an avid bridge player. She was preceded in death by her husband Samuel Holmstock, M.D., six sisters and a daughter-in-law, Barbara McMillan on March 9, 2004.

Survivors include one son, John M. “Buzzy” McMillan of Calhoun, a nephew, Ben Kirby of Columbia, S.C., two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be in the mausoleum chapel of Greenlawn Memorial Park at 2 p.m. on Thursday with Dr. Bert Vaughn officiating.

Visitation will be in the mausoleum chapel of Greenlawn Memorial Gardens from noon until 2 p.m. on Thursday.
