Devon Prosser

FLORENCE — Devon Munn Prosser, 91, widow of Jabo Calvin Prosser, died Saturday, March 5, 2005, in a local hospital after an illness.

Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 8, 2005, in Waters-Powell Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Tabernacle Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home.

She was born in Pamplico, South Carolina, a daughter of the late Maurice Eugene and Tenzil Ann Prosser.

Mrs. Prosser was a very active member at Tabernacle Methodist Church, where she taught the Mae Kelly Sunday School Class and was a member of the Margaret Willis Circle. She was also a member of the Bannockburn Garden Club.

Survivors include a daughter, Dianne P. (Dr. Eddie) Parker; two sons, Ferrell J. (Nancy) Prosser and Morris L. “Buddy” (Sandra) Prosser, all of Florence; a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Parrott Prosser of Columbia, SC; three sisters, Virginia M. Cagle, Hazel M. Cox, and Betty M. Turner, all of Florence; nine grandchildren, F. Calven (Lynn) Prosser of Ft. Myers, Fla., Tamara P. (Marion) Baker of Chapin, SC, Angela D. Prosser of Greenville, SC, Heather P. (Jay) Fisher of Columbia, SC, Ted Charles “Chuck” Prosser, Jr. of Orlando Fla., S. Edward (Samantha) Parker, III, of Weston, Conn., J. Cary (Virginia) Parker of Charlotte, N.C., Alice P. (Walter) Johnson and Sherry Parker (Jaime) Clark, both of Florence; and 17 great-grandchildren, Trey Baker, Cameron Baker, Rusty Prosser, Parker Tholen, Mason Tholen, Tillman Johnson, Sullivan Johnson, John Fisher, Jacob Fisher, Phoenix Parker, Blu Parker, Zephyr Parker, Olivia Parker, Jennifer Stroup, Walt Johnson Jr., Rachel Clark, and Hannah Clark.

She was predeceased by a son, Ted Charles Prosser; a grandson, Morris L. “Woody” Prosser, Jr.; and two sisters, Davyde M. Perry and Osma M. Turner.

Memorials may be made to the Tabernacle Methodist Church Cemetery Fund.

Carolyn Sawyer

DILLON — Carolyn B. Sawyer, 62, died Saturday, March 5, 2005, in McLeod Medical Center-Dillon.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday in First Presbyterian Church with entombment in Evergreen Cemetery Mausoleum directed by Cooper Funeral Home. Visitation will be 7-9 Monday evening in the funeral home.

Born in Robeson County, NC, October 15, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Raymond D. Branch and Henrietta Brigman Branch.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include her husband, Jimmy Sawyer of Dillon; sons, Michael D. Hamer (Madge) of Hamer and James “Skip” Sawyer (Stacy) of Ft. Collins, CO; daughter, Lisa Matthews (Jeff) of Dillon; sister, Brenda Branch & fiance, Wayne King of Dillon; granddaughters, Ansley & Erin Hamer of Hamer.

Mrs. Sawyer was preceded in death by her sister, Ruth B. Christmas; and a brother, Raymond Branch, Jr.

Cecile McTeer

RIDGELAND — Mrs. Cecile Brabham McTeer, 93, died at her residence, March 5, 2005. She was born in Kline, S.C. to the late Benjamin Perry and Jennie Idella Brabham. She was the wife of the late Wiley W. McTeer, Jr.

She was a retired school teacher of forty years, having taught in Hardeeville, Tillman, Estill and Ridgeland schools; she was a member of Ridgeland Baptist Church since 1936; she was a member of Senior Singers and the Agnes Preacher Circle; she was a charter member of The Azalea Garden Club; she was a member of The Jasper Historical Society and she was a graduate of Winthrop College.

She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Mrs. Melinda Rhodes and her husband Jimmy of Ridgeland, S.C.; Mrs. Cecile Garbade and her husband Fred of Camden, S.C.; Mrs. Eve Hogarth and her husband Doug of Barnwell, SC; one sister, Bertha B. Miller of Allendale, SC; seven grandchildren, Wiliam E. Saxon of Barnwell, S.C.; Melinda M. Rhodes of Columbia, S.C.; Lane Bell and his wife Kim of Concord, N.C.; Jim Rhodes and his wife Rebecca of Columbia, S.C.; Wiley Bell of Camden, S.C.; Celeste Brant and her husband Shane of Olar, S.C.; Elizabeth Abbott and her husband Bobby of Blackville, S.C.; two great granddaughters, Mary Deas Rhodes of Columbia, S.C. and Miley Cecile Brant of Olar, S.C.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, March 8, 2005 at 3:00 p.m. at Ridgeland Baptist Church, Ridgeland, S.C. with burial immediately following the service in Ridgeland Cemetery. Visitation will be at her residence, 1216 Grays Road (Highway 278) from 4:00 till 7:00 P.M. on Monday, March 7, 2005.

Memorials may be made to the Ridgeland Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 1630, Ridgeland, S.C. 29936.

Sauls Funeral Home of Ridgeland is assisting the family with their arrangements.

Mary Richardson

COLUMBIA — Services for Mrs. Mary Jane Frierson Richardson, of 241 King Charles Rd, will be held 12:00 noon Tuesday, at Francis Burns United Methodist Church, with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 6:00 pm today at Palmer Memorial Chapel.

Mrs. Richardson died Monday, February 28, 2005. Born in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Richard and Sarah Frierson. She received her B.S. degree from Claflin University; a Masters from Tuskegee University and a second Masters Degree in reading from the University at Buffalo. She was employed with and retired from Richland School District I after 17 years. She was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Francis Burns United Methodist Church and Women of the World Organization.

Surviving are her husband, Leo Richardson; children, Sandra J. Richardson, Alfred L. Richardson and Beverly L. Richardson; granddaughter, Morgan M. Richardson; brothers, Richard, Henry, Theodore and Ray Frierson.

Jonathan Tipton

CHERAW — Jonathan Lee Tipton, age 22, died March 6, 2005 at home in Newport, N.C. after battling cancer for several months. Funeral is Tuesday 3 pm at Prince of Peace Church in Cheraw with the family receiving friends from 1-3 at the church.

Norton Funeral Home is serving the Tipton family.

Duane Ulness

COLUMBIA — Visitation for Duane Edward Ulness, 66, U.S. Navy veteran, will be held at 10 a.m.-4 p.m. today at 1117 Palisades Circle and 7-9 tonight at Greenlawn Funeral Home. He died March 5, 2005. He was an auto body mechanic with Prestige Auto Body & Paint. Surviving are wife, Dolly Ulness; children, Duana, Diana, Duane Jr.; siblings, Helen, Ed; nephew, Tim; nieces, Tammy, Terry, Tracy; four grandchildren.

Patricia Alford

ANDREWS — Patricia “Pat” Ann Kennedy Alford, 68, wife of Nathan Alford, died Saturday, March 5, 2005, at home.

Mrs. Alford was born April 7, 1936 in New Zion. She was the daughter of the late Wilbur Edward and Rubye Evans Kennedy. A graduate of East Clarendon High School in Turbeville and the University of South Carolina, she retired from teaching in Williamsburg and Georgetown Counties. Mrs. Alford wrote Scratching the Surface, a brief history and genealogy of the families of William J. Morris, Andrew Jackson Morris, and Julius Harvin Morris.

Surviving, besides her husband, are: one son, Andrew Scott Alford (Vivian) and their two daughters, Sarah Wyse and Jenny Alford, all of Dallas, N. C.; one sister, Jean Claire Kennedy Burttram Gibbons (Bob) of New Zion; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Monday, March 7, 2005, at 2 p.m. at the Andrews Presbyterian Church with Rev. John Black officiating. Burial will follow in Andrews Memorial Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Tidelands Community Hospice, Inc., 2591 N. Fraser St., Georgetown, S. C. 29440.

The Andrews Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Charlie Young Jr.

St. MATTHEWS — Services with burial for Charlie Young Jr. will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Second Mt. Beulah Baptist Church. Carsons Funeral Home is in charge. Born in Calhoun Co. to Charlie Sr. and Adline Porterfield Young, he died March 4, 2005. Surviving are wife, Bonnie Young; daughters, Eartha Wright, Brenda, Angela, Charlene Young, Patricia Lundy, Elizabeth Hollowanger; sons, Rev. Charles Hopkins, Charley Young III; sister, Estelle Bowman; brothers, Earthly, Dennis, Henry Young; 20 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren.

Precella Moore

COLUMBIA — Funeral service for Precella Bell Moore of 2409 Santee Avenue formerly of Hopkins will be held 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at Zion Benevolent Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to service. A public viewing will be held Monday, March 7, 2005, 3-9 P.M. with the family receiving friends from 7-8 P.M. at the funeral home.

J.P. Holley Funeral Home, Senate Street Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Bell died Monday February 28, 2005. Born in Hopkins she was the daughter of the late Herbert Bell, Sr. and Mary Johnson Bell. She was a member of Zion Benevolent Baptist Church.

She is survived by her son, Timothy Moore; daughters, Priscilla M. Priester, Mary M. Heatley, Nancy Moore; brothers, Herbert Bell, Jr., John T. Bell, Daniel L. Bell, Benjamin S. Bell; sisters, Ella B. Caldwell, Mary B. Smith, Dorothy B. Smith; Millie B. Rhodes; eleven grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren.
