Marie Steading
POMARIA — Services for Marie Layne Steading will be at 12 Noon on Wednesday at McSwain-Evans Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Laurens. Mrs. Steading, 90, widow of Troy B. Steading, Sr., died April 3, 2005. Born in Spartanburg, she was a daughter of the late Floyd N. and Mary Elizabeth Hollingsworth Layne. She had retired from Laurens Glassworks and was a member of Faith Temple Interdenominational Church.
Surviving are daughters, Alma McEntyre Harris of Pomaria, Helen M. Lunsford of North Augusta, Glayds B. Fowler of Easley; twelve grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren. Mrs. Steading was predeceased by a son, Troy B. Steading, Jr. and a daughter, Elizabeth McNair Faxon.

Margaret Allen
COLUMBIA — Graveside service for Margaret Brinson Allen, 89, will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Southland Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Tuesday 6-8 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.
Mrs. Allen, married to the late Glenn Curtis Allen for fifty years, died Sunday, April 3, 2005. Born in Lyons, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Ellison and Effie Brinson. She retired from Olympia School.
Surviving are children, Douglas Allen, Judy A. Campbell, Linda A. Suttles and Danny Allen, all of Columbia; grandchildren, Tracey C. Reynolds and Courtney C. Ridgeway, both of Lexington, Gina M. Campbell and Mark Suttles, both of Columbia and Ashley A. Miller of Savannah, Ga.; and great-grandchildren, Kyle Reynolds and Lauren Reynolds, both of Lexington. She was predeceased by a brother and three sisters.

Joseph Bailey
CANADYS — Mr. Joseph Wayne Bailey, 58, of 5106 Maple Ridge Road, Canadys, died Sunday afternoon, April 3, 2005, in the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro.
Funeral services will be held 11 o’clock Wednesday morning, April 6, 2005, in The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home Chapel, Walterboro. Interment will follow in Woodland Cemetery at Canadys.
Mr. Bailey was born December 6, 1946, in Charleston County and was a son of the late Joseph Parker Bailey and Rita Haile Bailey. He was a graduate of Walterboro High School and retired after a longtime career in Hotel and Motel management. He was a member of Canadys First Baptist Church and also attended Harvest Community Church where he was a Sunday School teacher. Mr. Bailey was an accomplished pianist and organist and will always be remembered for his love of music. He took great pride in his gardening and loved to fish.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Shirley Herndon Bailey; a son, Brent Bailey and his wife Rhonda Dopson Bailey of Walterboro; a daughter, Denise Bailey Watford of Canadys; and a brother, Bennie Hankins and his wife Linda of Early Branch. There are three grandchildren, Rianna Bailey, Danielle Watford and Devyn Watford that also survive.

ELGIN — Graveside services with full military rites for Walter Lee Branham, 86, of Elgin will be held Wednesday, April 6, 2005, at 1:00 p.m. at Smyrna United Methodist Church Cemetery. Rev. Mr. Branham died Monday, April 4, 2005. Born in Winnsboro, SC, he was the son of the late Andrew David and Lila Bowen Branham. He was a U.S. Army WW II veteran, having earned Bronze Star and received the Purple Heart. He was a member of Harmony Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Miller Branham; daughters, Dorothy Martin of Elgin, Phyllis Kelly and her husband Joel of Elgin; a stepson, Tom Rabon of Columbia; 7 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-granddaughter; sisters, Inez Taylor of Camden, Alether Gleaton and Betty Medlin, both of Lugoff; brother, Clarence Branham of Lugoff. He was predeceased by his first wife, Dorothy B. Branham, sister, Mattie Osborne, brothers, Murdie M. Branham and Jack A. Branham.
Delores Bittorf
SUMTER — Delores Chandler Bittorf, 68, widow of Roger V. Bittorf, died Sunday, April 3, 2005, in Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born in Strasburg, Va., she was a daughter of the late Clyde Curtis Chandler and the late Anabel Artz Chandler.
She was formerly employed by Cutler Hammer and was a member of the Fairfax Christian Church in Fairfax, Va.
Survivors include five children, Richard Eugene Bittorf of Bristol, N.H., Walter Vernon Bittorf of Greensboro, N.C., Rebecca B. Kirsch of Fairfax, Va., Joel Emory Bittorf of Manassas, Va., and Lisa B. Shaver of Kingsland, Ga.; a twin sister, Dorothy C. Manna of Sumter; two brothers, Frank E. Chandler of Burke, Va., and Samuel R. Chandler of Manassas, Va.; four grandchildren, Jesse Curtis Bittorf, Virginia Lynn Bittorf, Dakota Cage Patterson, and Trinity Shaver.
Graveside services will be held at 11 A.M. Friday in Panorama Memorial Gardens in Strasburg, Va., with Rev. Jay Alexander officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Wednesday at her home, 1767 Anburn Drive, Sumter and from 2 to 4 P.M. and 7 to 9 P.M. Thursday at Stovers Funeral Home in Strasburg, Va. (540)465-5101.
