DARLINGTON — Services for Emma Good, 93, widow of James Good, noon today in Grove Hill Cemetery with visitation following at Darlington Country Club. Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home is in charge. Born in Darlington to Charles and Emmie Carter Witherspoon, she died Oct. 30, 2004. Surviving are sisters, Edwina Wyckoff, Ernest Gorostidi; daughters, Phyllis Lepori, Kathleen Livingston; grands; great-grandchildren.

Naomi Imri

WEST COLUMBIA — Graveside services for Naomi W. Imri, 93, of West Columbia, will be held at 1 pm Thursday, November 4, 2004 at Southland Memorial Gardens, officiated by Rev. Mary Teasley. Memorials may be made to Platt Springs United Methodist Church Youth Fund. Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia is handling arrangements.

Mrs. Imri died November 2, 2004. Born November 13, 1910, she was the daughter of the late John and Lila Tyler Winningham, Sr. of Springfield, SC. Mrs. Imri was a faithful member of Platt Springs United Methodist Church.

Surviving are four nieces and a nephew; a number of great and great-great nieces and nephews; and her cat, Roberta. Mrs. Imri was predeceased by a brother, John Winningham, Jr.

Ariadni Papakyrikos

WATERTOWN, Mass. — Ariadni (Grosomanides) Papakyrikos of Watertown, Mass. died on November 2, 2004 as a result of an accident. Beloved wife of the late Stratis N. Papakyrikos. Devoted mother of Mary Mazzolla-Spivey and her husband, Preston of Columbia, S.Carolina, Helen Mastro and her husband, Frank of Needham, Mass and Nicholas Papakyrikos and his wife, Tamar of Needham, Mass. Sister of Katerini Deligiannis of Lesvos, Greece. Also survived by 7 grandchildren. Sister-in-law of Vasa Papakyrikos and his wife, Maria of Lesvos, Greece and Mary Papakyrikos of Needham, Mass. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Her funeral will be held on Friday, November 5, 2004 at the Greek Orthodox Church Taxiarchae, Watertown, Mass. Burial will be in Ridgelawn Cemetery. Visiting hours on Thursday from 5 to 8pm. Donations in her memory may be made to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.

Survived by stepdaughters, Gwendolyn Gooden, Lois Struggs and Constance Stephenson of Detroit, MI; sisters, Jessie Woodward and Sadie Thompson of Baltimore, MD, Cora Jackson and Janie Hall of Blair, S.C., Willia Coleman of Warrensville Heights, OH and Margaret Reed of Cleveland, OH; brothers, Robert Peoples, Jr. of Blair, S.C., Theodore Peoples of Maple Heights, OH and John Peoples of Severn, MD; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 6 sisters-in-law; 5 brothers-in-laws and numerous other relatives and friends. Interment at Detroit Memorial Park-East, Warren, Michigan.

Hattie Pierce

COLUMBIA — Services for Hattie Mae Pierce are 1 p.m. Friday at Gunter’s Chapel Baptist Church with burial in Serenity Memorial Gardens. Bostick-Tompkins Funeral Home is in charge. Born in Balney to Ethan and Thessa R. Morgan, she died November 2, 2004. Surviving: husband, Leon Pierce Jr.; daughter, Roxie Samuel; sisters, Clara, Lillie, Ethel, Jessie, Georgia; grandchildren; great-grandchildren.

Fred Rhodes

COLUMBIA — Services for Fred Douglas Rhodes, 64, retired truck driver, 3 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Moses CME Church, Saluda. Butler & Sons Funeral Home is in charge. Born in Allendale to David and Lillian Roberta Johnson, he died Nov. 1, 2004. Surviving: children, Larry Hurst, George, Lavern, Ellender, Mary Rhodes, Johnnie, Maude Padgett, Rose Harris, Robin Myers; grandchildren; great-grandchildren.

Raymond Delaney Sr.

WEST COLUMBIA — Raymond H. Delaney, Sr., 90 years old, went to join his wife, mother, brothers and sisters on Monday evening, November 1, 2004. Services will be held at 5 pm Friday, November 5th, at First Baptist Church West Columbia. Honorary pallbearers will be his Sunday School Brothers. Friends are invited to a reception-celebration from 6-9 pm Thursday at Best Mattress Company, 713 Meeting Street, Columbia. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Raymond Delaney Lighthouse Youth Ministry Fund at First Baptist Church West Columbia. Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia is handling arrangements.

Born in Alabama in 1914, Mr. Delaney was the son of the late Samuel Delaney and Mabel E. Beecham. As a very young boy, his family moved to Signal Mountain, Tennessee, where he began his love of sales and marketing by delivering newspapers early every morning. After moving to Atlanta, he continued his newspaper “business” by picking up his papers at the Varsity Grill each morning and returning after his route to have a hotdog and orange soda. While serving in the Armed Forces during WW II, he was wounded in Africa. Being sent home to recover, he met his bride, a beautiful nurse named Elizabeth Hall. They were happily married for 52 years.

Along with his mother, Mr. Delaney founded Best Mattress Company in 1928. He was past-president of the Furniture Dealers of Columbia Association and was voted one of West Columbia’s “Best Dressed” businessmen. In the 1950’s, while traveling to a furniture show, Mr. Delaney met actress Jane Mansfield. She asked him to design and build a special heart-shaped bed for her. He did so, with the help of his Uncle Truman Boyles, which began his custom-made mattress business. Also during this time, Mr. Delaney founded Lexington Investment Company with friends, Alton Salters, Sherlock Hutton, and other close friends and associates.

Mr. Delaney was a member of First Baptist Church West Columbia, the 40 & 8 Club and the Pineview Ruritan Club. He was also a lifelong member of the University of South Carolina Gamecock Club, of which his love of Gamecock football he passed on to his son, Buddy and grandson, Logan.

Mr. Delaney was a generous man with a kind, loving and compassionate heart. His convictions were strong and he had a great love for his family, friends and church. Surviving are his son, Buddy - Raymond H. Delaney, Jr. and his wife, Marci Ruffin Delaney; daughter, Linda Martin and her husband, James Martin, all of West Columbia; two adoring grandsons, R.H. Delaney, III and Logan Thomas Delaney; special niece, Betty Ruth Bennett; and others. He was predeceased by sisters, Virginia Marcina Gray and Ruth Heloise Hayes; and brothers, Kenneth Carson Delaney and Carlisle Littleton Delaney.

The family wishes to express deep gratitude for the loving care provided to our loved one by the staff of National Health Care in West Columbia, and the kindness and compassion shown by the very wonderful, Dr. Darin Sutton and now-retired, Dr. Dunovant, the caring staff of the PCU at Lexington Medical Center and all of the physicians, nurses and other staff members, who had been a part of our lives for the past four years.

Tommy Easterling

HARTSVILLE — Graveside services for Thomas Clarence Easterling, 62, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 5, 2004 at Magnolia Cemetery. The Very Rev. Ted Duvall and Rev. Dr. Bob Cline will officiate and Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home is in charge. The family will receive friends Thursday, November 4, 2004 from 4-6 p.m. at the home of William and Ann O’Neal, 601 Wilson Dr. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 2711 Middleburg Dr. Suite 311, Columbia, SC 29204.

Mr. Easterling died Wednesday, November 3, 2004. Born in Darlington Co., SC, he was a son of the late Clarence and Martha McIntosh Easterling. He was a member of St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church. Tommy was employed with Sonoco for 38 years and was a member of the Old Timers Club. He loved his faithful companion, Lucy.

Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Clark and Janet Easterling of Greenville, SC; sister and brother-in-law, Ann and William O’Neal of Hartsville, SC. He was preceded in death by his sister, Meta Gainey.

Tom Gaines

GREENWOOD — Services with burial for William Thomas Gaines, 61, graduate of Greenwood College of Commerce, retired from Capsugel, 11 a.m. Friday at First Mt. Moriah Baptist Church; visitation 7-9 tonight at Blyth Funeral Home. Born in Greenwood to James & Gertrude Brooks Gaines, he died Nov. 3, 2004. Surviving: wife, Peggy Trail Gains; daughter, Christie McCord; grandchild; brothers, Pickens, Donnie.

Ola Mae Daniels

COLUMBIA — Services for Mrs. Ola Mae Daniels, 80, will be held 2 p.m. Friday in the St. John Baptist Church, Hopkins with burial in the church cemetery. Wake services will be held 6 p.m. this evening at Leevy’s Funeral Home, Lower Richland Chapel. Surviving are her daughters, Jacqueline Days and Helen Taylor; sons, Isreal, Jr. (Eva), David (Marjorie), Henry, Abram (Cynthia), and Mack (Rochelle) Daniels; brothers, Abram, Jr. and Barry Coles; sisters, Octavia Brantley, Etta Goodman, and Martha Evans; 35 grandchildren; 40 great-grands; 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Theresa Evans

COLUMBIA — Services for Mrs. Theresa Hicks Evans will be held 2 p.m. today (viewing at 1 p.m.) at Round Top Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Leevy’s Funeral Home, Taylor Street Chapel is in charge. Surviving are her husband, Vincent Evans; daughters, Takia and Kiana Williams; mother, Tommie Catherine Hicks; brother, Larry Hicks; grandchildren, Kiara and Jerell.

Sara Griffin

BEAUFORT — Sara Aline Spivey Griffin, 78, widow of John Myrick Griffin, died November 2, 2004 in Beaufort Memorial Hospital.

Family will receive friends on Thursday, Nov. 4, from 6-8 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Nov. 5, at 3 p.m. at Carteret St. United Methodist Church with burial in Beaufort Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Griffin was born on November 9, 1925 in Ridgeland, SC a daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin Spivey and Rita Goings Spivey.

She was a graduate of Ridgeland High School. She was a homemaker and worked in the family businesses Griffin’s Service Station and the Downtown Marina. She served as Commissioner of the City of Beaufort’s Dixie Youth Baseball program for over 15 years and was a recipient of the Danny Jones Award, the highest state award in Dixie Youth Baseball. She was a member of Carteret St. United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by two sons, John M. Griffin Jr., Paul S. Griffin; daughter, Sara Jane McGown, all of Beaufort; brother, J. Warren Spivey of Ridgeland; a sister, Eleanor S. Gregorie of Yemassee; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, an infant daughter, four sisters, Maggie M. Spivey, Evelyn E. Spivey, Laura Spivey, Frances S. Williams and a brother, Benjamin F. Spivey Jr.

Memorials may be made to Carteret St. United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 788, Beaufort, SC 29901.

Anderson Funeral Home is in charge.

John Paige

DILLON — Services for John Calvin Paige, 57, will be held at 2 p.m. today at Bethel AME Church with burial in Rest Haven Cemetery. House of Thomas Funeral Home is in charge. Born in Dillon to Evelene Paige and the late John David Paige, he died October 29, 2004. Surviving are his mother; brothers and sisters, Lee Jr., Lorenzo, Dora and Ollie; daughters, Nadine, Tashia and Ruby; son, John; grandchildren.

Mae Yonce

JOHNSTON — A graveside service for Miss Mae Sloan Yonce, 92, homemaker, will be held at 11 a.m. today in Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church (where she was a member) Cemetery with visitation following in the church social hall. Born in Johnston to Robert and Bessie Franklin Yonce, she died November 2, 2004. Surviving are her brother, W.L. Yonce; sister, Lola Yonce; nephews, Hubert Jr., Robert, Joe Yonce.

Arthur Matuse

HARTSVILLE — Funeral services for Arthur L. Matuse, 84, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 5, 2004 at Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Becky Jones will officiate with burial in Magnolia Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, November 4, 2004 from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Matuse died Tuesday, November 2, 2004. Born in Darlington Co., SC, he was a son of the late Nathan and Ella Grant Matuse. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, retired from Sonoco, and was a member of the Sonoco Old Timers club. He was a very loving, devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

Surviving are his wife, Lafern Petty Matuse of Hartsville, SC; son and daughter-in-law, James and Sheila Amerson of Yankton, SD; daughters and son-in-law, Pat and Buckwheat King of Hartsville, SC, Lavel Amerson of Hartsville, SC; grandchildren, Stacy Seymour, Joey Horton, Machelle Riley, Scotty Horton, Chris Bartley, Butch Waldron, Shannon Waldron, Vance Amerson, Jamie Amerson, Kelly Amerson; 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Diane Horton.
