Edel Shealy

NEWBERRY — Edel Varnes Shealy, 88, widow of C. Hayne Shealy, formerly of 1416 Trent Street, Newberry, died Tuesday April 5, 2005, in Newberry County Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Shealy was born March 11, 1917, in Orangeburg County, a daughter of the late Jesse and Lillie Varnes. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Shealy is survived by two daughters; Jackie S. Long of Newberry and Patricia S. Pryor of Walterboro; two grandchildren; Greg Pryor of Walterboro and Michelle Feeley of Sabastian, FL, and 5 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services for Edel Varnes Shealy will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday in Newberry Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Charles Aurand.

Terry L. Mitchell

LEXINGTON — Services for Terry Lynn Mitchell, 51, will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 8, 2005, at West Columbia Church of Christ with interment to follow in Woodridge Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, April 7, 2005, at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 505 N. Parkway, PO Box 50, Memphis, TN 381101.

Mr. Mitchell died Monday, April 4, 2005. Born May 11, 1953, in Martin, TN, he was the son of Betty Mitchell Walker and the late Bobby Joe Mitchell. He was a member of West Columbia Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife, Julie Mitchell; daughters, Melissa Coleman (Keith), Maggie McGregor; mother, Betty Mitchell Walker (Eulane); grandparents, Sam and Annie Mae Walker; brother, Jimmy Mitchell. Mr. Mitchell was an employee of MasterfoodsUSA.

He was preceded in death by his father; and brother, Bobby Joe Mitchell, Jr.

Willie Warren Horsley Sr.

GOOSE CREEK — Entered into eternal rest on the morning of Tuesday, April 5, 2005, Mr. Willie Warren Horsley Sr. of Goose Creek, SC. The Family will receive friends Thursday, April 7, 2005, from the hours of 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral services and Burial will be held at a later date. He was born 1933 in Daleville, Alabama, to the late Lewis Horsley and Emma Leila Patterson Horsley. He was a Foreman with Bonitz Contractors with 50 years of service. He is survived by two daughters, Janet Sielicki and Regina Cochran, both of Lexington, SC. Three sons, Willie W. Horsley Jr. of Concord, NC, Dean Horsley of Lexington, SC, Rusty Horsley of Cayce, SC. 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Funeral services provided by Carolina Memorial Funeral Home, N. Charleston.

William Curtis Barger

COLUMBIA — A memorial service for William Curtis Barger, 43, will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Mr. Barger died Monday, April 4, 2005. Born in Columbia, he was the son of Mary Jane Tice Neves and Eugene E. Neves. He loved fishing and was an avid arrowhead hunter.

Surviving are his mother and stepfather of Lake Wateree; and sister, Doris Elizabeth Barger of Daytona Beach, Florida. He was predeceased by a brother, Donald Lee Barger, Jr. and nephew, Bryan Keith Gibbs.

Col. William Evans Duvall Jr.

CHERAW — Col. William Evans Duvall, Jr., age 89, died April 4, 2005, in McLeods Regional Medical Center.

Born in Cheraw, SC, he was the son of the late William Evans, Sr., and Ruth Kinsey Duvall. He had retired as an agent with Southern Farm Bureau Insurance Company. He was a member of St. David’s Episcopal Church and was Sunday school superintendent for many years. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in WWII and Korea and had retired from the S.C. National Guard with the rank of colonel. He was a member of the Civitan Club.

Surviving are his son, Mac Duvall and wife Debby of Dallas, TX; one daughter, Ellen Edwards and husband Jerry of Springfield, VA; two sisters, Blanche Smith of Orangeburg, SC, and Ruth (Sis) Funderburk of Cheraw. Also 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 8, 2005, at 12 noon, and due to the renovation of St. David’s Episcopal Church, the service will be held at First United Methodist Church with burial in Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens.

Memorials may be made in the name of Mr. Duvall to the Renovation Fund at St. David’s Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 926, Cheraw, SC 29520.

Norton Funeral Home of Cheraw is serving the Duvall family.

Lester Quattlebaum

COLUMBIA — Graveside services for Lester N. Quattlebaum are 2 p.m. Friday in Serenity Memorial Gardens. Viewing is this evening from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. at Bostick-Tompkins Funeral Home. Born in Leesville to Cephus and Jessie L. Quattlebaum, he died April 3, 2005. Surviving are his loving and devoted companion, Luella Jamison; siblings, Forest Quattlebaum, Cora Mitchell and Sarah Q. Jones.

John Boxx

GREENWOOD — Services for John Douglas Boxx, 77, of 434 Dogwood Drive, Westside Baptist Church member, are 11 a.m. Friday at Blyth Funeral Home. Burial: Oakbrook Memorial Park. Born in Greenwood to R.W. and Annie Lee Ayers Boxx, he died April 6, 2005. Surviving: wife, Rita McCord Boxx; children, John, Eric, Merry; siblings, Frank, Harold Boxx, Mary Walters; grandchildren; great-grandchildren.

Zoraida R. Jeffcoat

LEXINGTON — Services for Zoraida R. Jeffcoat, 49, will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2005, at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel with interment to follow in Lexington Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2005, prior to the service at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel.

Mrs. Jeffcoat died Wednesday, April 6, 2005. Born February 27, 1956, in Chicago, IL, she was the daughter of Jovino Molina and the late Margarita Rubet Molina. Zoraida was a member of Lion of Judea Worship Center. She served as a youth leader at Celebration Worship Center and was team mom for Lexington Youth Football.

She is survived by her husband, Dan Jeffcoat; daughter, Nicole Ollis; son, John Daniel Jeffcoat, all from Lexington; sisters, Maria Corrow of Tampa, FL, Gloria Neal of Lexington, Lillian Molina of Romeoville, IL, Hilda Vargas of Chicago, IL, Susan Molina of Chicago, IL, Nelida Denon of Plainfield, IL, Carmen Mireles of Chicago Ridge, IL, Rosie Abernathy of Chicago, IL; four grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Eddie Johnston

ALCOLU — Thomas Edward “Eddie” Johnston, 52, formerly of Sumter, died Thursday, April 7, 2005, in Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning.

Born February 6, 1953, in Charleston, S.C., he was a son of the late Robert M. and Ruth Baird Johnston. He was owner of Bank Repo Outlet and Johnston’s Carpet Cleaning and a member of Westside Baptist Church in Sumter.

Surviving are a son, Ryan Johnston of Sumter; a daughter, Shanna Leigh Johnston of Columbia; two brothers, Robert Wayne Johnston of Sumter and Curtis Gregory Johnston of Dalzell, and special friend, Annie Osteen of Sumter.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning with the Rev. Mark Bordeaux officiating. Burial will follow in Clarendon Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday evening at Stephens Funeral Home in Manning and at other times at the residence, 3332 Hotel Street, Alcolu.

Memorials may be made to Westside Baptist Church, 554 Pinewood Road, Sumter, SC 29154-6162.

Stephens Funeral Home and Crematory of Manning is in charge of arrangements.

Charlene Aycock Morris

COLUMBIA — Funeral services for Mrs. Charlene Aycock Morris, 67, of Columbia, SC, will be held 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Kathwood Baptist Church with Reverend Kevin Roberts, officiating and interment to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to The Carolina Children’s Home at 3201 Trenholm Road, Columbia, SC 29204. Condolences may be sent to www.mem.com. The family has entrusted Greenlawn Funeral Home with the arrangements.

Mrs. Morris died Wednesday, April 6, 2005. Born in Pinewood, SC, she was the daughter of the late George Jones Aycock and Anna Calhoun Aycock. She graduated from Pinewood High School and attended Columbia College. Mrs. Morris retired from Agfirst Federal Land Bank of Columbia, SC, and was a member of Kathwood Baptist Church. She was a founder of Motherless Daughters Columbia Chapter.

She was predeceased by her brother, George “Sonny” Calhoun Aycock.

Surviving is her loving and devoted husband of 48 years, Mr. James Lin Morris; daughters, Lynn Morris of Atlanta, GA and Charlotte Morris Byrne and her husband John Byrne of Charlotte, NC; a son, James “Jimmy” Calhoun Aycock Morris of Atlanta, GA; one grandchild, John Morris Byrne; a sister, Sara Aycock Suttler of Clovis, California; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives and friends.

COLUMBIA — Memorial services for Mr. Atlas Aaron Fields will be held at noon in Lincoln Cemetery. Leevy’s Funeral Home, Taylor Street Chapel is in charge. Surviving are his daughter, Desire Whack; mother, Barbara Fields; sisters, Valarie Regino, Angel Fields, and Ella Fields; brother, David Fields; family and friends.
