Linda Lou Carroll

COLUMBIA — Service for Linda L. Carroll, 57, will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Ashland United Methodist Church, with entombment to follow in Bush River Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Visitation will be Friday 6-8 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel. Memorials may be made to Ashland United Methodist Church Worship Committee, 2600 Ashland Rd., Columbia, SC 29210 or Sharing God’s Love, 147 Friarsgate Blvd., Irmo, SC 29063.

Mrs. Carroll passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2005, after a 9-year battle with cancer. Born in Vincennes, IN, she attended Vincennes University and received her Education Degrees from Indiana State University. She and her husband, Steve, were married in Vincennes in 1968 and spent 16 years living in Plainfield, IN, and Madison, IN, before moving to Columbia, S.C., in 1984.

She taught second grade in the Plainfield, IN, Community Schools before devoting her life to her children and family. In Columbia, she taught in Lexington-Richland District 5 schools and worked for the Boy Scouts of America, Indian Waters Council, as Eagle Scout coordinator. She was very active in Ashland United Methodist Church, having served on Worship Committee and for 19 years as the Christmas Moravian Lovefeast coordinator.

She is survived by her husband, Steve, her children and their spouses, Dalene and Grant Gibson and Todd and Jessica Carroll, all of Columbia, S.C.; also her mother, Jane Reichman of Vincennes; sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and Leon Jerdon and three nieces and three nephews all of Niles, MI. She was preceded in death by her father, Roy Reichman and in-laws, Gilbert and Moneda Carroll.

The family wishes to thank the staff of S.C. Oncology, Lexington Medical Center 8th Floor, Lowman Nursing Center, and S.C. Lutheran Hospice for their dedicated care.

Allison Cunningham

COLUMBIA — A memorial service for Mrs. Allison Martin Cunningham, 46, daughter of the late Gene and Eve Martin, are 5 p.m. Saturday at Greenlawn Funeral Home. She was employed with Swift Water Beads. Surviving: husband, David Cunningham; daughter, Kaitelyn Herbert; son, Andrew Herbert; brothers, John and Bill Martin. Memorials to: Stepping Stones Ministry of Elmwood Ave. Church of God.

Frances Baxley

KERSHAW — Funeral services for Frances Corry Baxley, 80, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 10, 2005, from the First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Baxley family plot in the Kershaw City Cemetery. Rev. Bryant D. Fersner will officiate.

Mrs. Baxley, widow of Harold Huntley Baxley, died Thursday, April 7, 2005. Born in Gaffney, S.C., she was the daughter of the late William Blackstone and Marie Kirby Corry. Mrs. Baxley retired as a public school music teacher, having taught in the Lancaster County School System for 28 years. She also taught music at North Greenville Junior College and taught several music classes at Montreat, Montreat, N.C. Mrs. Baxley was a graduate of Limestone College, received her master’s in music education from Columbia University in New York, and continued her music education by studying at Julliard School of Music in New York. She was a member of First Baptist Church, a member of the Kershaw Garden Club, The McDowell Music Club, and the Bid and Bye Bridge Club.

Surviving are her children, Harold Huntley “Hal” Baxley, Jr., of Chattanooga, Tenn., Robert Edward “Bob” Baxley, and his wife Jean Male Baxley, of Alexandria, Va., and David Eric Baxley, and his wife Beth Roberts Baxley, of Columbia, S.C.; her beloved grandchildren, Elizabeth Corry Baxley, of Greenville, S.C., Andrew Shelton “Drew” Baxley, of Chattanooga, Tenn., Ethan Robert Baxley, of Alexandria, Va., Sara Elizabeth Baxley, Amelia Sikes Baxley, and David Eric Baxley, Jr. of Columbia, S.C. She was predeceased by a son, William Daniel “Bill” Baxley. The family would also like to thank Mrs. Baxley’s special caretakers, Reather White, Bridggette Cunningham, Elizabeth Wilson, and the staff of Lutheran Hospice of the Midlands for the love and care they provided.

The family will receive friends Saturday, April 9, 2005, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home, 210 E. Hilton Street, Kershaw.

Memorial contributions in Mrs. Baxley’s memory may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund, Post Office Box 67, Kershaw, SC 29067.

Richard "Rich" Lee Monteith

CHARLOTTE — Mr Monteith passed away peacefully April 7, 2005, with his family around him. He was born February 16, 1940, in Bryson City, N.C., and was the son of the late Charlie Bascom Monteith and Lillie Cabe Monteith.

Richard is survived by his loving wife Nancy Purser Monteith, his son Jason Cabe Monteith of Raleigh, N.C., daughter Carson Monteith and husband Simon McGrother. He is also survived by three stepchildren, Susan Rawls Edwards, of Columbia, S.C., Rebecca Rawls Keener, of Minneapolis, MN, Martin Rawls of Henderson, N.C., and by 7 grandchildren, Lucas McGrother, Jackson and Thomas Edwards, Sarah and Michael Keener and Reynolds and Reece Rawls - who loved their “Daddy Rich” as he did them, one brother, Charles William Monteith and his wife Maxine of Raleigh, N.C., 2 sisters Ann Monteith McConnell and husband Jack L. McConnell of Kingstree, S.C., and Nancy Monteith Black of Charlotte, N.C., and numerous nieces and nephews.

He graduated from Chester High School, Chester, S.C., where he enjoyed playing football, dancing and socializing with his many friends. He attended Spartanburg Junior college and obtained an associates degree from Wingate University. He graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelors degree in business administration.

He had a long career in the insurance industry as an independent broker where he received numerous awards and accolades.

There will be a memorial service on Saturday April 9 at 2 p.m. at the McEwan Chapel Mint Hill, N.C., with visitations prior to the service. Following the service the interment will be at Forest Lawn East Cemetery in Matthews/Weddington.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to a charity of your choice.

Mary Frances Bookman

PROSPERITY — Services with burial for Mary Frances Bookman, 84, a licensed practical nurse, will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday (viewing 3 p.m.) at Mount Hebron AME Church. Wilson Funeral Home, Newberry, is in charge. Born in Newberry Co. to John and Chicora Mayers Counts, she died April 7, 2005. Surviving: sisters, Pearl Jones, Bessie Mayers; nieces, nephews, cousins, friends.

Eula Mae Whittington

CHAPIN — Services for Eula Mae Slice Whittington, 94, will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 10, 2005, at St. Jacob’s Lutheran Church, Chapin, with interment to follow in church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2005, at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Chapin Chapel.

Mrs. Whittington, widow of Jesse B. Whittington, died Friday, April 8, 2005. Born March 13, 1911, in Chapin, S.C., she was the daughter of the late John Melvin and Mary Comalander Slice. She was a member of St. Jacob’s Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Bobbie W. Clark; granddaughter, Caroline Clark, both of Chapin; brother, J.B. Slice of Columbia; sister, Martha Seay of Lexington.

Michael J. Sullivan

CHERAW — Michael J. Sullivan, 70, died Thursday, April 7, 2005. The family will receive friends 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, April 10, 2005, at Kiser Funeral Home. A rosary service will be held following the visitation at 8:00 p.m.

Inez Mayers Gass

HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. — Inez Mayers Gass, 76, of Hendersonville, passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2005, at her home.

She was born July 6, 1928, in Mullins, SC. She was preceded in death by her parents, Enoch Cleveland and Molly Drew Mayers, one brother, Cleve Mayers, and one sister, Ann Bray.

She was a member of Refuge Baptist Church and the Dorcas Fedelis Sunday School Class. She was a loving and devoted mother and friend to everyone she met. She retired from JC Penney of Hendersonville.

She is survived by one son, Terry “Buddy” Gass and his wife Sophia of Hendersonville; three daughters, Honorable Becky R. Martin and her husband Johnny of Anderson, SC, Jerry “Sissy” McFalls and her husband Randy of Hendersonville and Susan Frady and her husband Dennis of Pisgah Forest; three sisters, Edith Rogers of Mullins, SC, Gladys Long of Barnwell, SC, and Catherine Morris of Columbia, SC; six grandchildren, Marie Edgar, Mollie Loftis, Bradley and Lillian Gass, Miranda and Mallori McFalls; two great-grandchildren, Dylan and Devon; many special nieces, nephews, and many loving friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 4:00 p.m. at Refuge Baptist Church in Dana. The Reverends Alvin Melton and Phil Frady will officiate. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the home.

Memorials may be made to Refuge Baptist Church, Oleta Rd., Dana, NC.

Forest Lawn Mortuary is assisting the family with the arrangements.

James O. Addy

SALUDA — James Oscar Addy, 89, died Friday, April 8, 2005, at Saluda Nursing Center.

Born in Saluda County, a son of the late James W.L. and Daisy Banks Addy, he was the husband of the late Carrie Langford Addy. Mr. Addy was a retired salesman having worked for Matthews Chevrolet, Herlong Chevrolet, Edwards Building Supply and Darracott Tractor Company. He was also a former employee with Ramey Funeral Home and a farmer. He was a Mason and member of Travis Lodge #241 and American Legion Post #65. Mr. Addy was a member and former deacon of Red Bank Baptist Church, a longtime choir member and a member of the Saluda Men’s Choir.

Surviving is a brother, Carl Addy of Saluda and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 P.M. Saturday evening at Ramey Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be 2 P.M. Sunday, April 10, 2005, at Red Bank Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary Romines officiating, Interment will follow in Mayson Memorial Cemetery.

Thompson Wofford Sr.

SUMMERVILLE —Thompson Connor Wofford Sr., 78, husband of Margaret Wheeler Wofford, died April 6, 2005. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Parks Funeral Home with visitation following. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 409 King St., Charleston, SC 29403 or to the American Cancer Society, 5900 Core Road, Suite 504, North Charleston, SC 29406.

Betty Richardson

GREENVILLE — Betty Grant Richardson, 91, formerly of Windsor House, widow of Peyton McMullen Richardson, died Friday, April 8, 2005, at Oakmont East Nursing Center.

Born in Cordova, AL, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Larkin and Raymoth Cook Grant.

Mrs. Richardson was a retired restaurant owner and a member of Covenant United Methodist Church.

Surviving are three children, Jerry Grant Richardson and his wife Judy, Janet Ruth Sheridon and her husband Wallace, Joel Marion Richardson and his wife Ann; seven grandchildren, Robert Grant Richardson, Patricia Marlene Richardson, Michael Scott Richardson, Harry Willard Davis, III, Mary Peyton Davis Wall, Joel Marion Richardson, Jr., Matthew Peyton Richardson; and eleven great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Covenant United Methodist Church, 1310 Old Spartanburg Road, Taylors, SC 29687.

Visitation will be held Sunday, April 10, 2005, from 3 until 4:30 P.M. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, April 11, 2005, at 1:30 P.M. at the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.

The family will be at the home of a son, Jerry Richardson, 1 Rolling Green Road, Greenville, SC 29615.

Jackie Beasley

WINNSBORO — Funeral services for Margaret Jacqueline Mackey Beasley, 73, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 10, 2005, at the First Church of the Nazarene, Winnsboro, conducted by Rev. Donny McKenzie. Burial will follow in the First Baptist Church Cemetery located on Hudson St. Ext. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Pope Funeral Home.

Born in Winnsboro, November 8, 1931, Jackie was the daughter of the late Waddell Magill and Pauline Roberts Mackey. Mrs. Beasley died Thursday, April 7, 2005, in Fairfield Memorial Hospital. Jackie was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene and had retired from the Fairfield County Council on Aging.

Surviving are daughters, Wanda Mills and Lisa Achkar, both of Winnsboro; a grandson, Christopher Achkar of Winnsboro; a stepdaughter, Deanne Simpson of Winnsboro; four stepsons, Monty Beasley and Darren Beasley, both of Anderson, S.C., Steve Beasley of Winnsboro and Allen Beasley of Spartanburg, S.C.; 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Pope Funeral Home is assisting the Beasley family.
