Catherine Ramsey Martin

COLUMBIA — Services for Catherine Ramsey Martin, 81, of Columbia, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 10, 2005, at the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia, officiated by Pastor Robert Cannon and Pastor Carol Cannon. Burial will follow in Olympia Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to S.C. Cancer Society or to Brookland United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Martin, widow of Furman Martin, died Thursday, April 7, 2005. Born in Columbia, she was a daughter of the late William Fletcher Ramsey and Lila Mae Leslie Ramsey. Mrs. Martin was a member of Brookland United Methodist Church and the Young at Heart Club. She had retired from the S.C. Employment Security Commission.

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Kay Sharpe Shull and Robert M. Shull of West Columbia; grandchildren, Tim Shull (Deborah), Tangie Bethea (Willis); great-grandchildren, Sarah Shull, Amber Shull, Will Bethea, Tanner Bethea; several nieces, nephews; and special niece, Ann Hooper.

Mrs. Martin was predeceased by a sister, Margie Ramsey Jordan and a son, Alvin Fletcher Sharpe.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to Dr. Tripp Jones and the staff at S.C. Oncology Associates for their care and support.

Dorothy Mae Brannon Surginer

COLUMBIA — Services for Mrs. Dorothy Mae Brannon Surginer, 74, of 4143 Williamsburg Drive, will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Union Baptist Church, with burial in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens (viewing at 1 p.m.).

Visitation will be 2 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today at Manigault-Hurley Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at 7 p.m. at the funeral home, 2229 Two Notch Road.

Daughter of the late George Brannon and the late Lillie Bell Cyrus Clifton, she was born in Columbia, and died on Thursday, April 7, 2005, at her residence.

She was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School, a member of Union Baptist Church where she was on the Missionary Society, the Deaconess Board, and was a Sunday School teacher. She retired from the South Carolina Security Commission in 1994, after 25 years.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Ernest Surginer; 3 sons, Ernest Surginer, Jr., Harold Surginer, and Leon (Ulli) Surginer; 3 daughters, Geraldine Surginer, Deloris Surginer-Epps, and Janice Surginer; a sister, Helen (Johnie) Porterfield; mother-in-law, Florence James; a sister-in-law, Leona James; 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 17 nieces and nephews; other loving relatives and friends.

Margaret Raynor

DILLON — Services for Margaret Peggy Raynor will be held 3 p.m. Sunday at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Raynor, 84, died Thursday, April 7, 2005, in the Pines Nursing Home.

Born in Cumberland County, N.C., July 12, 1920, she was the daughter of the late French Bennett and Edna Courtneay Bennett. She was a member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, a former Den Mother with Brownies, and a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Ellis M. Raynor of Dillon; daughter, Margaret Weathersbee of Sumter; sons, Ed Raynor of Fairmont, N.C., Thomas Raynor of Surfside Beach and Jim Raynor of Burlington, NC; 4 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Raynor was preceded in death by her son, William Courtneay Raynor.

Loretta Camille Lynn

COLUMBIA — Loretta Camille Lynn, 68, of Columbia, passed away in Palmetto Richland Baptist Hospital on April 7, 2005.

Memorial services for Ms. Lynn will be at 2 P.M. today, April 9, at Seven Oaks Presbyterian Church, St. Andrews Road, Columbia. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial gift to Palmetto Health Hospice, Palmetto Health Foundation, 9 Richland Medical Park Drive, Suite 600, Columbia, SC 29203.

Survivors include four daughters, Vicki Oakley of Peachtree City, GA, Staci Jones of Peachtree City, GA, Marci Lynn of Columbia, and Kari Mistoler of Columbia; five grandchildren, Chris, Todd and Kaitlyn Oakley, Taylor and Lindsay Jones; and a sister, Cheryl Ottaviano of Louden, TN.

Ms. Lynn was a retired registered nurse from Palmetto Richland Baptist Hospital with 22 years of service, and a member of Seven Oaks Presbyterian Church.

Cremation Society of South Carolina is serving the Lynn family.

Demetrius Jones

COLUMBIA — Services for Demetrius S. Jones, Benedict College graduate, member of Capital City Chorale, 2 p.m. Sunday: Haskell Height First Baptist Church, where he was a member. Burial: Raleigh, N.C. Visitation 6-8 tonight: Bostick-Tompkins F.H. Born in Raleigh to Walter Sr. & Juanita Dassiter Jones, he died April 6, 2005. Surviving: father; siblings, Mary Alverson, Jeffrey, Ronnie, Walter Jr., Juan Jones.

Mamie Crosby Goettee

VARNVILLE — Mrs. Mamie Crosby Goettee, 72, of 458 Palmetto Avenue West in Varnville, died Wednesday morning at her residence after a brief illness.

Mrs. Goettee was born in Colleton County, October 1, 1932, a daughter of the late Watson D. and Lillie Breland Crosby. She had retired from Wade Hampton High School as a Home Economics teacher after 30 years of service. She was a member of the Bethel Methodist Church in Ruffin, and attended the Hopewell 1st Baptist Church near Hampton, where she was active with the W.M.U. She was active with the Family Community Leaders group with Clemson Extension, member of the National Teachers Association, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, was a graduate of Winthrop University, and was an Honorary Member of the Woody Williams Saddle Club. She was the widow of the late Abe W. Goettee.

Surviving are one sister, Mildred C. Collins of Dallas, Texas ; 5 nieces, 1 nephew, and 13 great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at the Hopewell 1st Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Derris Davenport, and Rev. Tom Hiers, with burial in the Hopewell Cemetery, directed by Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home in Hampton. Friends may call at the Chapel in Hampton, located at 300 Mulberry St. from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, and Sunday morning prior to services.

The family suggests that those who wish may send memorials to the charity of one’s choice.

Gaynell D. Lybrand

PELION — Services for Gaynell Dunbar Lybrand, 91, will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 10, 2005, at Florence Baptist Church with interment to follow in church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael Williams, Jeff Williams, Wilton Williams, Tommy Lybrand, Richard Brawley and Tony Pruitt. Honorary pallbearers will be Lila Sutton, Ida Rish, Agnes Bartos and the Senior Sunday School Class. Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2005, at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. Memorials may be made to Florence Baptist Church.

Mrs. Lybrand, widow of Felder Lybrand, died Friday, April 8, 2005. Born May 4, 1913, in Pelion, SC, she was the daughter of the late James and Ethel Smith Dunbar. She was a member of Florence Baptist Church, the senior Sunday School Class, and participated in Pelion Rescue Squad for many years.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Ann Lybrand of West Columbia, Donny and Marie Lybrand of Pelion; daughter, Rhonda Williams of Pelion; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her grandchild, Jimmy Lybrand.

Marion Funk Jr.

GASTON — Graveside services and military rites for Marion Walker Funk, Jr., 84, of Gaston, will be held at 1pm Sunday, April 10, 2005, at Sunset Memorial Gardens in St. Stephen, SC. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Gaston or to Spring Valley Baptist Church.

Mr. Funk died Friday, April 8, 2005. Born in Kingstree, SC, he was the son of the late Marion W. Funk, Sr. and Laurie Wilder Funk. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force having served in World War II. Mr. Funk had been an area resident since 1955 and was retired from Derrick Gulf on N. Main in Columbia. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Gaston and the Senior Men’s Sunday School Class.

Surviving are his wife, Wilma Orvin Funk of Gaston; daughters, Brenda Spires of Lexington, Martha Pelton of Florida; sister and brother-in-law, Mary “Sue” and Carter Jordan of Columbia; grandchildren, Clint Spires and Dustin Pelton. Mr. Funk was predeceased by his daughter, Henrietta Funk; son, M. Walker Funk, III; brother, Wilder S. Funk; and grandchild, Jordan Pelton.

Inis Fulmer

RIDGE SPRING — Inis McCormick Fulmer died Friday, April 8, 2005. Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, April 10, 2005, at Ridge Spring Baptist Church with interment in the Ridge Spring Cemetery. The Reverend Bill Barnette will officiate. Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

Mrs. Fulmer was born in Batesburg, S.C., to the late David G. and America Padgett McCormick. She was married to the late Morgan D. Fulmer. She was a member of Ridge Spring Baptist Church and a homemaker.

Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, Virginia F. Robertson (Aubrey) of Saluda, Elizabeth F. Sox (Freddy) of Chapin, Katherine F. Berry (Carrol) of Monetta; daughter, Vernell F. Collins of West Columbia; sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne Fulmer (Gloria) of Ridge Spring, James David Fulmer (Phyllis) of Leesville; brothers, David McCormick of Monetta, Virgil McCormick of Anderson; a sister, Helen Anderson of Ward, S.C.; seven grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by sons, Broadus and Thomas Edward Fulmer.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Saturday, April 9, 2005, at the Milton Shealy Funeral Home, other times at her home. Memorials may be made to Ridge Spring Baptist Church, 108 Church Circle, Ridge Spring, SC 29129. Milton Shealy Funeral Home (803) 532-6100 is in charge of all arrangements.

Elizabeth Jane Woods

COLUMBIA — A memorial service for Elizabeth Jane Tattrie Woods, 39, will be held Saturday at 4 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Gervais Street Chapel. Visitation will be 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Mrs. Woods died Thursday, April 7, 2005. Born in Tacoma Park, Md., she was a daughter of Roy Dale Tattrie and Alice Elizabeth Michon Martinez. She was an Army veteran, and a lover of plants, flowers, and birds.

Surviving are her husband, SFC Jack M. Woods of Fort Jackson; son, Eric Scott Nichols of the home; daughter, Amanda Storm Woods of the home; brother, Richard Dean Straw of Irwin, Iowa; sisters, Vicki Lynne Straw of Omaha, Neb., Susan Marie Holms of Defiance, Iowa, and Dennise Lynne Arnold of Melvern, Iowa; father of Idaho; mother of Irwin, Iowa; father-in-law, Jack Michael Woods, Sr. of Cedar Town, Ga.; and mother-in-law, Debra Woods of New Paris, Ohio.

Eleanor Mary Tracy

COLUMBIA — Service for Eleanor Mary Tracy, 79, will be private. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.

Mrs. Tracy died Friday, April 8, 2005. Born in Utica, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Valentine and Angela Szczepanska Usmail. She was of the Catholic faith.

A beloved wife, mother and grandmother, she is survived by her husband of 58 years, Kenneth Edward Tracy; sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Julie Tracy of Ringwood, N.J., Kenneth and Cathy Tracy of Simpsonville, S.C., Tom Tracy of Columbia, and Tim and Marsha Tracy of Blythewood; daughter and son-in-law, Debby Tracy and Steve Cobb of Blythewood; and eleven grandchildren, Kevin Cobb, Eric Tracy, Keith Tracy, Tracy Cobb, Caroline Tracy, Lynn Tracy, Morgan Tracy, Caitlynn Tracy, Kelli Tracy, Tyler Tracy, and Allison Tracy.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorials be directed to the American Heart Association.
