Robert James Tunstall Sr.

BRUNSON — Mr. Robert James Tunstall Sr., 71, of #21 Nix Street in Brunson, died early Saturday morning at his residence after an extended illness.

Mr. Tunstall was born in Florence County, October 9, 1933 a son of Liston James and Gladys Spring Tunstall. He had retired from the Savannah River Site after 40 years of service as a Lab Technician, and was a member of the Brunson Baptist Church, where he had been Sunday School Director for many years, Discipleship Training Director, R.A. Leader, and Sunday School Teacher. He was also a member of the Buford Masonic Lodge #27 in Fairfax.

Surviving in addition to his Mother of Fairfax are: His Wife: Evelyn Crosby Tunstall of Brunson; Sons: Bob and wife, Faye Tunstall of New Ellington, David and wife, Vivian Tunstall of Varnville; Daughter: Beth and husband, Patrick Williams of Brunson; and Three grandchildren: Christopher and Kristin Tunstall of Varnville and Bryan Williams of Brunson.

Funeral services will be 11 A.M. Monday in the Brunson Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. David Deming and Rev. Willie Crosby, with burial in the Brunson Cemetery, directed by Peeples-Rhonden Funeral Home in Hampton.

The family suggests that those who wish may send memorials to the Brunson Baptist Church (ROOF FUND) P.O. box 70, Brunson, S.C. 29911 or Palmetto Health Care, P.O. Box 1123, Bamberg, S.C. 29003.

Friends may call at the Chapel in Hampton located at 300 Mulberry St., from 6 to 8 P.M. Sunday, and Monday morning until 10 A.M. when the casket will be placed in the church prior to services.

Mary Lou Wallace

CHESTERFIELD — Mrs. Mary Lou Wallace, 90, died Saturday April 9, 2005. Graveside service will be 2:00 PM, Monday, April 11, 2005 in Cross Roads Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation: Sunday, April 10, 2005 from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home.

Mrs. Wallace was born in Cherryville, N.C., a daughter of the late Lester and Abigail Jonas Leonard. She was a retired employee of Sacony and was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church. Mrs. Wallace was married to the late Spofford Wallace and was also preceded in death by 5 Brother and 1 Sister.

Survivors: 1 Son: Carroll Wallace of Ruby, SC; 1 Daughter: Margie W. Mauldin and husband, Henry of Chesterfield, SC; 1 Sister: Ollie Mae Stone of Rockwell, N.C.; also 3 Grandchildren and 3 Great Grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Pine Grove Baptist Church “Building Fund”, 293 Zoar Road, Chesterfield, S.C. 29709.

Bonnie Sue Sox Woodcock

SWANSEA — Mrs. Bonnie Sue Sox Woodcock, 44, of Swansea, SC, died Friday, April 8, 2005 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Columbia, SC, a daughter of the late Clayton and Edna Perry Sox, she was a hairdresser.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 PM Sunday, April 10, 2005 at Laurel Baptist Church, South Congaree, SC.

She is survived by sons, Dakota Woodcock, Pelion, SC and P.C. McIver; brothers, J.C. (Bonnie) Sox, Ft. Myers, FL, Jody Sox, Swansea, SC and Jimmy (Debra) Sox, South Congaree, SC; special friends, David Carter and Linda O’Cain; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Portsbridge Hospice, 1365 Interstate Parkway, Augusta, GA 30909.

Clay Jones

SUMTER — Services for Clay Thomas Jones, 44, will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Trinity Baptist Church with burial in Mayesville Cemetery. Job’s Mortuary is in charge. Born in Manhattan, N.Y. to Henry Jackson and Barbara Jones, he died April 6, 2005. Surviving: mother; stepfather, Henry Jackson; wife, Teresa Jones; children, Gerrell, Darnell, Kalvin, Kelvin, Gquatia, Tyeshia; grandchild, Tykeria; brothers, Keith, Scott.

Ruth A. Gillan

ORANGEBURG — Ruth Addison Gillam, 82, of 390 Rembert St., died, Friday, April 8 in Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg. Funeral services will be Sunday, April 10 at 4 PM at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church with Rev. Will R. Brown officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery. Dukes-Harley Funeral Home is in charge.

Mrs. Gillam was born in Walterboro a daughter of the late John Oliver and Mable Addison. She was co founder of G and G Paint and Wallpaper Center. Mrs. Gillam was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and a former Sunday School Teacher. She was the widow of John William Gillam Jr.

Survivors: Three sons and Daughters in law; John W. Gillam III and Sherry, and Frank C. Gillam and Karen of Orangeburg, Edward A. Gillam and Connie of Charlotte, NC; A brother; Wallace Addison, of Cottageville, SC; Six grandchildren; Christopher, Patrick, Franklin, and Aubree Gilliam, all of Orangeburg, Eddie and Meredith Gillam, of Charlotte, NC; A special friend; Hallie Queen Pendarvis, of Orangeburg.

Friends may call at: the residence and Dukes-Harley Funeral Home.

Wade Chavis

DENMARK — Services for Wade H. Chavis, 68, will be held three p.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston with the Revs. Rommie Martin and Dennis Letts officiating. Burial will be in the Barnwell Memorial Park by the airport. The family will receive friends from six to eight p.m. Monday at the funeral home and will be at the homes of Emma Grubbs and Pearl Chavis. Mr. Chavis died on Saturday.

Born in Barnwell County he was a son of the late Ezra and Lizzie Nevilles Chavis. He formerly worked for the City of Blackville and was a member of Ashleigh Baptist Church.

Survivors include sisters, Emma Grubbs of Denmark, Pearl Chavis of Columbia; brothers, Vastine Chavis of Blackville, Marion Chavis of Bamberg; several nieces and nephews.

Carmen Anderson

EDGEFIELD — Carmen Wilkerson Anderson, 86, of Penn St., died Friday 4-08-2005 at Edgefield County Hospital.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday 4-11-05 at the Edgefield United Methodist Church with Rev. Kevin Cooley officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Gardens Memorial Park.

Mrs. Anderson as born in York County and was a member of Edgefield United Methodist Church. She was a Graduate of Winthrop College. She taught school for 23 years. She was a Clemson University Mother of the Year in 1972 and a member of the Les Dames Des Fleurs Garden Club for over 50 years.

Survivors include 4 Sons- Joe F. Anderson, Jr., Columbia, Ben W. Anderson, Greenville, Gregg W. Anderson, Edgefield, Jeff M. Anderson, Lexington. 4 Sisters-Nanelle Castles and Dorothy Pearce, both of Hickory Grove, S.C., Johnsie Moore, Lake City, Ruth Perry, Lancaster. 2 Brothers- Merritt Wilkerson and John Wilkerson, both of Rock Hill. 7 Grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Edgefield United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 25, Edgefield, S.C. 29824.

The family is at the home and will receive friends Sunday from 3 to 5 P.M at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home.

Cora Barr

LAKE CITY — Services for Cora Lee Singletary Barr, 84, are 2 p.m. Monday at St. John Missionary Baptist Church with burial in Brown Cemetery. Green’s Funeral Home is in charge. Born in Williamsburg Co. to Henry and Annie Singletary, she died April 7, 2005. Surviving are children, Cleo, Joe, Singletary, Willie Barr, Bertha Hanna, Dorothy Dicks; 45 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; others.

Dorothy Haigh

FLORENCE — Services for Dorothy Louise Hewitt Haigh, 78, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at College Park Baptist Church with burial in Florence National Cemetery. Visitation is 7-9 tonight at Waters-Powell Funeral Home. Born in Florence to Clarence and Thelma Broach Hewitt, she died April 8, 2005. Surviving are children, Charles, Tyrone Haigh, Kay Tichnell, Carmen Campbell; sister, Linda Harris.

Marian Hampton

COLUMBIA — Funeral services for Mrs. Marian F. Hampton, 70, of Columbia, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 11, 2005, at St. Martin dePorres Catholic Church on Hampton Street. Visitation will be held from 4 until 9 and the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. at J.P. Holley Funeral Home, Garners Ferry Road Chapel.

Marian F. Hampton was born on March 21, 1935 to the late Holman and Francis Hampton of Hopkins, SC. She passed April 8, 2005 in Hopkins, SC.

After graduating from Booker T. Washington High School of Columbia, SC in 1953, she entered the US Army. After twenty-one years of service, she retired from the army in 1974 at the rank of Major. Upon retiring, she received a Masters degree from the Golden Gate University of San Francisco, California. She tried several jobs until finding her true calling by volunteering with several agencies: mainly the Riverbanks Zoo and Community in Schools.

Marian’s love for her mother and father led her to take care of her parents during their final years. During her final months of life, that loving care was returned by her nephew, Ronald and his wife Elaine.

Marian is survived by her two adopted daughters, Marian and Frances and their four children; a brother, Pinkney Hampton and his wife Leola; a sister, Carol H. Brooks; and a sister-in-law, Catherine D. Hampton. She leaves to cherish her memory a host of nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her brothers, James and Beverly Hampton and a sister, Ellie Hampton Robinson.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Community in Schools of Columbia or St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church Building Fund.

Jack Morton Sr.

CHESTER — Services for Jack J. Morton Sr., 79, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Lando Baptist Church with burial in Lando Cemetery. Visitation is 6-8 tonight at Barron Funeral Home. Born in Rock Hill to David and Beulah Furr Morton, he died April 8, 2005. Surviving are wife, Jean Collins Morton; children, Jack Jr., John, Ron, Barry Morton, Misty Morton; sister, Betty Floyd; three stepchildren; 16 grandchildren.

William Ketchum

LAURENS — A graveside service for William B. Ketchum, 96, widower of Helen Ketchum, will be held at 4 p.m. Monday in Shiloh UMC Cemetery. Kennedy Mortuary is in charge. Born in Barbour Co., Ala. to George and Sudie Trawick Ketchum, he died April 8, 2005. He was a member of Laurens First Presbyterian Church. Surviving: children, Michael Ketchum, Peggy Matthews; 5 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren.
