Born in Chesterfield Co., SC, he was a son of the late Hudson and Pearl Blackwell King. He was a member of Union United Methodist Church. He retired from Sonoco after 35 years and was a member of the Sonoco Old Timers Club. Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Joyce King; daughter and son-in-law, Corliss and Jack Maksin of Hartsville, SC; sister, Malverea King Watkins of Hartsville, SC; brother, Gary King of Hartsville, SC; grandchildren, Brad King, Landon King, Kristin King, Lisa Horne, Chad Walden; great-grandchildren, Parker Walden, Anna Katherine Walden, all of Hartsville, SC.

Gene Ogle

November 29th, 1926 - December 5th, 2004

Funeral services for Vertus Eugene “Gene” Ogle, 78, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 7, 2004 at the Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Surviving are his wife, Cynthia Weatherford Gainey of Hartsville, SC; sons, Everett Dawson Weatherford and Timothy Wayne Weatherford, both of Hartsville, SC, Grady Dustin Gainey of Oates, SC; sisters, Gloria Brunson and Sandra Kelley, both of Hartsville, SC, Wanda Sansbury of Florence, SC; brothers, Larry Gainey and Donnie Gainey, both of Hartsville, SC, Jimmy Gainey of Abbeville, SC; grandchildren, Christopher Sims, Tyler Gainey, Chole Weatherford. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Bobby Gainey, Ronnie Gainey, and John Gainey.

Surviving are her sisters, Terah Smith Davis of Florence, SC, Wilma C. Driggers of Hartsville, SC. She was preceded in death by her father Julius Catoe, her mother Lenora Catoe, and her spouse Charles Foote.

Mrs. Pope died Friday, November 19, 2004. Born in Darlington Co., SC, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Lawrence and Ada Register Melton. She was a long time member of St. Luke United Methodist Church, Dannie Newsome Circle, and the Adult Fellowship Sunday School class. She was past-president of the United Methodist Women and was retired from the Byerly Clinic. Surviving are her husband, Larry Pope of Hartsville, SC; sons and daughters-in-law, Dean and Chris Pope of Hartsville, SC, Mike and Monnie Pope of Manning, SC; grandchildren, Hoyt Kelley, Candy Tidwell, Sherry Cottingham; great-grandson, Ethan Tidwell. She was preceded in death by her daughter, LaRaye Pope.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Jack Larymore.

Hugh Gibson

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, 104 East Home Ave., Hartsville, SC 29550. Mr. Gibson, widower of Joan Teucher Gibson, died Tuesday, June 22, 2010. Born in Clarendon Co., SC, he was a son of the late John Rollins and Emily Stone Gibson. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Hartsville Masonic Lodge #173, York Rite, and the Omar Shrine. He served his country during WWII as a radio operator in the 1st Army, 5th Corps, 56th Signal Battalion. He was a co-owner and operator, along with his late wife, of Gibson's IGA Foodliner for over 25 years. He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, and was active in the community. Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Sheila Gibson and Donnie K. Smith of Hartsville, SC; son and daughter-in-law, Hugh Eldridge and Estelle Gibson, Jr. of Augusta, GA; grandchildren, Corey Rollins Smith of Hartsville, SC, Cedric Gibson of Augusta, GA, Christophe Gibson of Augusta, GA; great-grandchildren, Dylan Smith, Cameron Smith; niece, Aileen Teucher Abbott of Sumter, SC. He was preceded in death by his grandchild, Adrian Smith; sisters, Lila Boyce, Olivia Outlaw.

Margaret Eugenia Hill Peagler

She was a member of Hebron United Methodist Church and was in the church choir. She worked as a beautician for many years. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed nature and gardening. Surviving are her husband, James Luther (Lukie) Fields of Bishopville, SC; daughters and sons-in-law, Angel F. and Carl Griggs of Bishopville, SC, Wendy F. and Dennis Clanton of Hartsville, SC, Jami F. and Tracy Hopkins of Bishopville, SC; sister and brother-in-law, Lillian and Heyward Moore of Bishopville, SC; grandchildren, Cheyenne N. Carol Coggeshall

August 15th, 1944 - June 26th, 2010

Funeral services for Carol Harvey Coggeshall, 65, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at the First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Dr. Jeri Parris Perkins will officiate with a private burial in Magnolia Cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Tuesday following the service in the church narthex. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 213 W. Home Ave., Hartsville SC, 29550 or to a charity of one's choice, Mrs. Coggeshall died Saturday, June 26, 2010. Born in Wichita Falls, TX, she was a daughter of the late Chester Lawrence and Thelma Jean Armstrong Harvey. Her father was killed in a military airplane crash prior to her birth and she was lovingly raised by her mother and stepfather, Col. Robert Craven Drum. Growing up she lived in New Hampshire, New York, Tennessee, Virginia, Kansas, Hawaii and Panama. She graduated from Queens College in Charlotte, NC in 1966 with an AB degree in English Literature. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hartsville and the Spring Beauty Garden Club. Over the years she was an active volunteer in a number of church, educational and civic organizations, and in 1991 she received a special recognition from the SC Board of Education for her significant contributions to the public schools. Mrs. Coggeshall is survived by her husband of 43 years, Peter Collin Coggeshall, Jr. of Hartsville, who she married in Topeka, KS in 1967; son and daughter-in-law, Collin Drum and Melissa Hayes Coggeshall of Daniel Island, SC; grandsons, Peter Hayes Coggeshall and Weston Howard Coggeshall, also of Daniel Island; sisters, Linda Harvey Ireland of Memphis, TN, Deborah Drum (Ward) Holliday of Dallas, TX. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at McLeod Regional Medical Center and Carolina Health Care with special appreciation to Dr. James C. H. Smith and Carol’s dear friend and caregiver, Ann Bailey.

B. Jones of Darlington, SC; 4 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Coker Jones, Troy Jones, Jesse Jones.
