Dorothy C. Hare

SALUDA — Dorothy Crouch Hare, 95, died Saturday, April 16, 2005, at Saluda Nursing Center.

Born in Saluda County and a daughter of the late John Bouchelle and Daisy Fouche Crouch, she was the wife of the late E. H. “Billy” Hare. Mrs. Hare was a former employee of Luke’s Dress Shop and she was a member of Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church where she was a member of the choir and the Ladies Organization.

Surviving are nieces, Mary Miller of Greenwood and Barbara Rigney of New Orleans, LA and nephews, Wallace Tillman, Jr., of Washington , DC, Larry Tillman of Baxley, GA, Joe Robert Crouch of Greenville and Barron Wheeler, Jr., of Greensboro, NC.

Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Monday, April 18, 2005, at Travis Park Cemetery with Pastor Eddie Miller officiating.

Ramey Funeral Home is in charge.

Robert Archie

COLUMBIA — Homegoing Service for Robert “Bob” Archie of Columbia will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday at Bostick-Tompkins Funeral Home, with burial to follow in Serenity Memorial Gardens.

Bostick-Tompkins Funeral Home is in charge of the service.

Mr. Archie died April 13, 2005. Born in Blair, SC, he was the son of Eva Bell Jones Archie, and the late Horace Archie Sr. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, a former employee of Walkers Laboratory and a self-employed Real Estate & Insurance Agent. Mr. Archie was a member of St. Matthews Baptist Church of Blair.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Douglas Archie; and a sister, Annie Mae Black.

Surviving are his wife, Vernetta C. Archie; his children, Cheryl Archie, Sabrina Hingleton, Edwina Hicklin, Deanna Rifher & Anthony Wise; seven grandchildren; his mother, Eva Bell Jones Archie; brothers, Horace Archie Jr., and Booker T. Archie; aunts, Hattie Gladney, Lucy Mae Mayo, Bessie Suber and Roseanna Rogers; a host of nephews, nieces, and other loving relatives and friends, all of who will miss him dearly.

Dudley Dominick

BATESBURG — Dudley White Dominick, 83, of 1224 Mt. Willing Rd., died Friday, April 15, 2005.

Born in Saluda County on October 29, 1921, he was the son of the late D. Frank and Alice Merchant Dominick. He was a member of Sardis Baptist Church and was a retired carpenter and farmer. Mr. Dominick served in the Civilian Conservation Corps and the US Air Corps during World War II and as a mechanic on the B-24 Liberator Bomber. After his discharge, he farmed. In 1953, he became a carpenter and during the next 30 years, he built homes in nearly every part of Columbia. He retired from Bagnal Builders Supply in 1982 and resumed full-time farming.

Surviving is his wife of 59 years, Katherine Baird Dominick, a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Mary Claire Dominick of Batesburg, two daughters and sons-in-law, Syderis and Ricky Burkett of Wagener and Daphne and Rev. Larry Kyzer of Lexington; grandsons, Wayne and Julie Dominick, Scott and Marnie Dominick, Jared and Mindy Kyzer; granddaughters, Paige and Tony Sheppard and Katie Kyzer; one great grandson, Dakota Sheppard and four great granddaughters, Madison and Carolie Dominick, Abigail Dominick and Shelby Sheppard.

Mr. Dominick was preceded in death by a son, Dexter Dominick on April 5th and by four sisters, Vera Mae Corley, Mary Alice Herlong, Mattie Lou Lake and Azubah Griffith and a brother, John F. Dominick.

Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Sunday, April 17, 2005, at Sardis Baptist Church with Rev. Dennis Campbell officiating. Interment will follow in Cleves Matthews Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Cleves Matthews Cemetery Fund, c/o Susan Vance, 560 Double Bridges Rd., Batesburg, SC 29006.

Linda Cook

COLUMBIA — Memorial services for Mrs. Linda Sweeney Cook, 52, of Columbia, will be held 11 o’clock Monday morning, April 18, 2005, at Faith Baptist Church, 801 S. Maple Street, Columbia, SC. The Reverend Doug Self and The Reverend Wesley Luke will be officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Shives Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Cook died Friday, April 15, 2005.

Survivors include her husband, Ronnie Cook of Columbia, sisters, Kathy Ham of Tennessee, Pamela Baughman of Lexington and Cindy Knotts of Pelion; brothers, Jasper Danford of Montgomery, AL and Charles Danford of Columbia; aunts, Marie McMahan of North Carolina and Othel Herring of Cottonwood, AL.

Margarette Frost

COLUMBIA — Funeral service for Margarette Adams Frost, 94, will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday at Dunbar Funeral Home, Gervais Street Chapel with burial in Elmwood Cemetery and Gardens. The family will receive friends 4-6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and at other times at 24 Mallet Hill Road. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Portsbridge Hospice or the charity of one’s choice.

Mrs. Frost, wife of the late Campbell Walker Frost, Sr., died Friday, April 15, 2005. Born in Gibson, N.C., she was a daughter of the late William Perry and Sadie Moore Adams. A graduate of New York State University, she was a member of Phi Nu Epsilon. She was a teacher of nutrition at Columbia Hospital, retired from Richland School District One in 1977, after 28 years of service and served as the director of nutrition with the Counsel on Aging at the Washington Street United Methodist Church retiring in 1990. She was a member of S.C. Dietetic Association and Shandon United Methodist Church and a former member of S.C. Home Economics Association.

Surviving are her sons, Campbell W. Frost, Jr. and William Hardy Frost, Sr. and daughter-in-law, Cynthia H. Frost, all of Columbia; grandchildren, Margaret Elizabeth Frost and William Hardy Frost, Jr. She was predeceased by grandson, Ronald Lewis Frost; brothers, William C. Adams and Thomas M. Adams; and sister, Mrs. C. L. (Sarah) Dyson.

A special thanks from the family to Portsbridge Hospice, as well as, Martha, Earline and Jane for their loving care and support.

Regina A. Derrick

IRMO — Services for Regina Ann Derrick, 70, will be held at 12 noon Tuesday, April 19, 2005, in Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, conducted by Rev. Paul C. Sizemore, with burial at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11am Tuesday at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. Memorials may be made to the National Federation of the Blind of SC, 119 S. Kilbourne Rd., Cola., SC 29205.

Ms. Derrick died Saturday, April 16, 2005. Born in Columbia, SC, she was preceded in death by her mother, Lelia Regina Meetze Derrick Shealy, father, J. Madison Derrick and step-father, J. Haskell (Bo) Shealy, all of Irmo.

She was a member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, was a member of church choir, and the Olive Branch Ladies Auxiliary. She also worked in the church office many years. Ms. Derrick was retired from SC Technical Education as a Bookkeeper.

Surviving are her sister and brother-in-law, Christine D. and Terry Foust of North Augusta; nieces and nephews, Dianne (George) Brady, Jim (Kathy) Smith, Elizabeth (Allen) Thornton, Martha “Tina” (Mark) Napier; and 7 great nieces and nephews.

Helen Richardson

SUMTER — Helen Brockington Richardson, 79, widow of James “Jimmy” Richardson died, Friday, April 15, 2005.

Born in Chicago, Illinois, she was a daughter of the late George Herman Bodeen and the late Alva Larson Bodeen.

Mrs. Richardson was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter and attended Northwestern University. She was a member of the numerous Garden and Bridge Clubs. She was formerly employed as a legal clerk for the South Carolina House of Representatives and was former owner of The Brass Lantern.

Mrs. Richardson was twice married, first to the late Dr. F.S. Brockington then to the late James “Jimmy” Smith Richardson.

Surviving are three sons, Rhett Brockington and wife, Liz of Charlotte, N.C., Wayne Brockington of Columbia and Richard Brockington and wife, Kathy of Orangeburg, and two daughters, Sandra Noe and husband, Allan of Virginia and Sheri Green and husband, David of Lake City; a brother, George H. Bodeen, Jr. and wife, Nancy of Chicago, Illinois; a step-son, Jay Richardson and wife, Karola of Sumter; and 11 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Helena R. Frickling.

Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Monday at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter with the Rev. Dr. John Barr officiating.

Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 P.M. Sunday at the E.more Hill McCreight Funeral Home.

Memorials may be to the Episcopal Church of the Holy comforter, P.O. Box 338, Sumter, SC 29151.

Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and Crematory, 221 Broad Street, Sumter, is in charge of the arrangements.

Michael David Shamlin

HARTSVILLE — Michael David Shamlin, 52, of Hartsville, died Thursday, April 14, 2005 in a Hartsville hospital after a brief illness.

He was born in Pittsburgh, PA, a son of David H. Shamlin and the late Paula Joan Newman Shamlin, who died June 3, 2002. He was a member of Pisgah United Methodist Church and retired from the US Postal Service.

Surviving are his wife, Dianne Touchberry Shamlin of the home; his father of Florence; children, David H. (Angel) Shamlin, II of Florence, Brian (Wendy) Tarte of Florence and Jennifer (Michael) McKinney of Shallotte, NC; sister, Michele L. Samlin of Florence; seven grandchildren; family friend, Christopher Casey of Michigan and dog, Abbey.

Memorials may be made to Pisgah Building Fund, 621 N. Ebenezer Road, Florence, SC 29501.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, April 17, 2005 at Pisgah United Methodist Church. Entombment will follow at Florence Memorial Gardens Mausoleum directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Sunday at the funeral home.

Annie Buff

WEST COLUMBIA — Services for Annie Birdie Sox Buff, 94, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 18, 2005 at Zion Lutheran Church with interment to follow in church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, April 17, 2005 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, 226 Corley Mill Rd., Lexington, SC 29072.

Mrs. Buff widow of Walter K. Buff, died Friday, April 15, 2005. Born September 27, 1910 in Lexington, SC, she was the daughter of the late Lewis C. and Leola Roof Sox. Mrs. Buff was a life long member of Zion Lutheran Church, the adult Sunday School Class, W.E.L.C.A. and the Hill Toppers. She was a graduate of Columbia Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1933.

She is survived by her daughters and sons in law, Marlene B. and Olin Porth of Lexington, Sylvia B. and John Dobrovolny of Burnsville, MN; sisters Doris Smith of Lexington, Merlene Bouknight of West Columbia, Betty Rikard of Lexington; brother, Kenneth Sox of McBee; grandchildren and spouses, Calvin Porth (Missy), Cathy Clamp (Anthony), Keith Porth (Carolyn), Kirk Porth (Brooke), Corey Porth (Pam), Walter J. Dobrovolny (Siv), Lydia Dobrovolny, Christina Dobrovolny, Benjamin Dobrovolny; eight great grand-children.

She is preceded in death by her brothers, Killian, Leon, J.T., Harold, and Curtis Sox; sister, Cecile Corley.

The family will be at the residence of Marlene and Olin Porth, 352 Park Rd., Lexington.
