Hilda Mack

WEST COLUMBIA — Services with burial for Hilda Hicks Mack, homemaker, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Piney Grove A.M.E. Church, Gaston. Visitation is 1-7 tonight at Pearson’s Funeral Home. She was born in Lexington Co. to James Hicks and Hattie Earl. Surviving are husband, Vernell Mack; three sons; five daughters; one brother; 24 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; others.

Betty Rawls

COLUMBIA — Services for Betty Jean Rawls will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Greater St. Luke Baptist Church with burial in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation is 6-7 tonight at Bostick-Tompkins Funeral Home. Born in Columbia to Lee and Minnie Mayes, she died April 13, 2005. Surviving are husband, George Rawls; sons, Delazandro, Gregory; siblings, Alvin, Leatha, Maxie; three grandchildren.

Charles Wagner

COLUMBIA — Services for Charles “Pete” Wagner will be held at noon Monday at Bostick-Tompkins Funeral Home with burial in Serenity Memorial Gardens. Born in Hardeville to Emma Goodwin and Major Wagner Sr., he died April 14, 2005. Surviving are wife, Alfreda S. Wagner; daughters, Candace, Dyonuka Wagner, Ava Boyd; mother; five brothers; two sisters; four grandchildren.

Peggy Marshall

COLUMBIA — A celebration of life service for Peggy Huskey Marshall, 74, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 19, 2005 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. The family will receive friends following the service at the club house in Forty Two Magnolia, on Autumn Circle, Columbia, SC. A rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, April 18, 2005 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Memorials may be made to Palmetto Hospice, PO Box 7275, Columbia, SC 2920 or St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 3600 Devine St., Columbia, SC 29205.

Mrs. Marshall died Monday, April 11, 2005. Born March 31, 1931 in Gaffney, SC, she was the daughter of the late Russell R. and Sudie Boatwright Huskey. Mrs. Marshall was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She was graduated from St. Frances Xavier Hospital in Charleston, SC. She started her career at Providence Hospital in 1957 where she was instrumental in developing the first recovery room and first ICU. She was clinical manager and retired from Providence Hospital in 1996. She was an associate of Sistes of Charity of St. Augustine, and was honored in 2001 by Palmetto Health Hospice for over five hundred hours of volunteer service of her dedication and loving care.

She is survived by her son, David; daughter, Caroline; grandchildren, Marshall, Claire, and Chloe; nephews, Brian and Terry Huskey.

Lucille Thomas

BISHOPVILLE — Services for Lucille S. Thomas will be held at 3 p.m. (viewing 1 p.m.) Monday at Liberty Hill Missionary Baptist Church with burial in Gum Spring Cemetery. Square Deal Funeral Home is in charge. Born in Lee Co. to Jessie Sr. and Mary York Simon, she died April 13, 2005. Surviving are husband, Cliff Thomas; four sons; three daughters; 32 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; seven siblings; others.

Adrianna Outing

ALLENDALE — A graveside service for Adrianna Quandasia Outing, infant daughter of JaQuan Outing and Venessa Simmons, will be held at 1:30 p.m. today in Springfield Baptist Church Cemetery, Groton. Cave Funeral Service is in charge. She died April 15, 2005. Surviving are parents; grandparents, Barbara Simmons, Wanda Outing, Joe Priester; great-grandmother, Frances Outing.

Grady Workman

LAURENS — Services for Grady Woodrow Workman, 90, U.S. Army WWII veteran and retired with J.P. Stevens, Shelby, N.C., are 3 p.m. (visitation 2-3 p.m.) today at The Kennedy Mortuary with burial in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Born in Laurens to Samuel and Beatrice Thackson Workman, he died April 15, 2005. Surviving are wife, Mary Turner Workman; sisters, Helen Teskey, Pearl Bobo; others.

Red Rambo

HARTSVILLE — Funeral services for Ewell E. “Red” Rambo, 86, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 18, 2005 at First Baptist Church. The Rev. Dr. Bob Cline and the Rev. Dr. Richard Bailey will officiate with burial in Magnolia Cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Sunday, April 17, 2005 from 4-6 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 104 East Home Ave., Hartsville SC 29550 or Scott Center Foundation Board, 201 N. Damascus Rd., Hartsville, SC 29550.

Mr. Rambo died Friday, April 15, 2005. Born in Abingdon, VA, he was a son of the late Otho Holland and Mary Edmondson Rambo. He was a member, past deacon and usher at First Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army 31st Infantry “Dixie” Division in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. In 1950, he and wife moved to Hartsville and established Rambo’s Shoes. They also established Rambo’s Shoes in Sanford, NC (1956) and Florence, SC (1972). He served on the Chamber of Commerce Board for two terms and the Board of S. C. Merchants Association for eight years. He was instrumental in organizing and serving on the Board of the Hartsville Parking, Beautification and Business Improvement Commission. He also was involved in the organization of the Scott Center of Hartsville. He was a Mason, Shriner, member of the VFW, and member of the Civitans.

Surviving are his wife, Jeanette McCroskey Rambo of Hartsville, SC; daughters, Carol Ann Godwin and Joy Rambo, both of Hartsville, SC; son and daughter-in-law, Charles E. “Charlie” and Beth Rambo of Florence, SC; grandchildren, Jacob L. Godwin, Steven Stuber, Elizabeth Stuber; nephew, Myrl Dunham; niece, Mary Minnick.

Willie Broadwater

COLUMBIA — Willie Broadwater, son of the late John and Katie Broadwater was born December 10, 1927 in Edgefield, South Carolina. After a brief illness he entered into eternal life on April 14, 2005.

Willie was educated in the Edgefield County School System. He accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Edgefield, S.C.

Upon marrying Sarah Jones Broadwater he joined The Greater Saint Luke Baptist Church in Columbia, South Carolina, where he served faithfully on the musical choir until his health declined. He retired from Tampa as a Printer/Welder after a lengthy service.

Fond and loving memories will forever be cherished by his wife and beloved sweetheart of thirty-eight (38) years.

Willie has two sons, Willie James and Michael (Tosha) Broadwater and four daughters; Cora Wise, Suretta, Katie and Cathy Broadwater, all of Lexington, South Carolina. Willie has five step-children, Edwina D. Hart, Bruce Dreher, Robin (Thomas) Days, all of Columbia, S.C., Cheryl (Alvin) Cook of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Larry Dreher of Greenville, S.C., Horace, David (Mamie) of Columbia, S.C., Joseph, Freddie and Albert Mealing, Florence (Sammie) Hiller, Lexington, S.C.

Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at The Greater Saint Luke Baptist Church, Columbia, S.C. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.

Visitation is 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. Monday at Russell McCutchen Funeral Home, Columbia, S.C.

Lexington Funeral Home, Lexington, is in charge.

James Phillips

KERSHAW — Services for James Ben “J.B.” Phillips, 88, of 404 W. Church Street, will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, April 18, 2005 from Baker Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Pat Minihane and Patrick Shealy will officiate. Burial will follow in the Kershaw City Cemetery.

Mr. Phillips, born in Lancaster, SC, died Saturday, April 16, 2005 in the Lancaster Convalescent Center. He was the son of the late Ellison and Lillie Kee Phillips. He was retired from Springs Industries with over 50 years of service. Mr. Phillips was married to Lillie Gardner Phillips.

Surviving are his wife of 47 years; twin sons, Ronald “Ronnie” Phillips and Donald “Donnie” Phillips; 2 sisters, Cleo Deason, Dot Hilton, and her husband Bruce, all of Lancaster, and a brother, Clyde Phillips, and his wife, Elsie of Lancaster, and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends 1 hour to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Baker Funeral Home is serving the family of Mr. Phillips.

Pauline House

SUMTER — Services for Pauline Chance House, 73, are 11 a.m. Wednesday (visitation 5-7 p.m. Tuesday) at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home; burial in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery. Born in Bladenboro, N.C. to A.M. and Bessie Douglas Chance, she died April 17, 2005. Surviving: husband, John House; children, Mark House, Lisa Roupe; sister, Hazel Ward; three grandchildren.

Regina A. Derrick

IRMO — Services for Regina Ann Derrick, 70, will be held at 12 noon Tuesday, April 19, 2005, in Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, conducted by Rev. Paul C. Sizemore, with burial at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11am Tuesday at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. Memorials may be made to the National Federation of the Blind of SC, 119 S. Kilbourne Rd., Cola., SC 29205.

Ms. Derrick died Saturday, April 16, 2005. Born in Columbia, SC, she was preceded in death by her mother, Lelia Regina Meetze Derrick Shealy, father, J. Madison Derrick and step-father, J. Haskell (Bo) Shealy, all of Irmo.

She was a member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, was a member of church choir, and the Olive Branch Ladies Auxiliary. She also worked in the church office many years. Ms. Derrick was retired from SC Technical Education as a Bookkeeper.

Surviving are her sister and brother-in-law, Christine D. and Terry Foust of North Augusta; nieces and nephews, Dianne (George) Brady, Jim (Kathy) Smith, Elizabeth (Allen) Thornton, Martha “Tina” (Mark) Napier; and 7 great nieces and nephews.

Willie Thomas Pinckney

SUMTER — Services and burial for Willie Thomas Pinckney, 51, are 2 p.m. (viewing at 1 p.m.) Tuesday at Hopewell Baptist Church. Job’s Mortuary is in charge. Born in Sumter to Mary and Richard Pinckney Sr., he died April 14, 2005. Surviving: wife, Cornelia Pinckney; daughters, Larissa, Melissa, Delaina; mother; siblings, Janie Fulton, Delores James, Mary Grayson, Joseph, Richard Pinckney; others.

David Sloan

MURRELLS INLET — David H. Sloan, 83 President of Sloan Realty and Management Company, Ltd, died Saturday April 16, 2005 at his home following an illness.

He was born October 3, 1921 in Beulaville, NC a son of the late David Hugh and Edna Earle Fowler Sloan. His first wife, Jean Foxworth Sloan, his son, Mark A Sloan and his sister, Josephine McMillan Fowler all predeceased him.

David was a recognized community, civic and church leader. He was a member and former deacon of Surfside First Baptist Church, with past service as Building Committee Chairman and a member of the Finance Committee. He was a senior member of the Myrtle Beach Rotary Club and Lifetime member of the Lions Club International, serving as President of both organizations as well as in other leadership positions. He was honored many times by both organizations. David was active in the local Business community and recognized for his strong work ethic. He was a member of the South Carolina Association of Realtors, serving as state director for many terms as well as heading state committees. He was also active in the local Board, chairing numerous committees. He was a senior appraiser of the American Association of Appraisers. David was honored as Realtor of the Year in 1986. David served on the U.S. Department of Agriculture Public Advisory Board, was past president of the S.C. Farm Bureau, past vice president of the American Farm Bureau and past president of the Marion Production Credit Association. He was also a former F.B.I. Agent and received the Purple Heart as an Army paratrooper during the invasion of Normandy.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda H. Sloan of Murrells Inlet, SC, three sons, John D. Sloan and his wife Lori of Myrtle Beach, SC, Paul L. Sloan and his wife Janet and Hugh M. Sloan and his wife Pam all of Murrells Inlet, a niece, Jo M. Carmichael of Surfside; eight grandchildren: Francis Orsimarsi, Blake Sloan, Kristen Sloan, Brittany Sloan, Jacob Sloan, Victoria Sloan, Conor Sloan, and David Sloan. Three stepchildren and five step grandchildren also survive him.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Tuesday April 19, 2005 at First Baptist Church of Surfside with Dr. John Gambrell officiating. Burial will follow the service and will begin at 4:30 pm at McMillan Cemetery in Mullins, SC.

The family will receive friends on Monday April 18, 2005 at McMillan-Small Funeral Home in Myrtle Beach, SC from 6:00-8:00 pm.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, SC Affiliate, Inc. 2711 Middleburg Dr. Suite 110, Columbia, SC 29204 or American Cancer Society, 950-48th Ave. N., Myrtle Beach, SC 29577.
