James Brewer
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Funeral service for Mr. James William Brewer, Sr., 67, of Jacksonville, formerly of Columbia, will be held 2 o’clock Thursday afternoon, April 21, 2005, at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel. Interment will follow in Ebenezer Holiness Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Brewer died Sunday, April 17, 2005. Born in Ridgeway, S.C., he was a son of the late Earley and Mildred Pauline Theriault Brewer. He grew up in Columbia and lived in Massachusetts for 20 years before moving back to Columbia. He retired to Jacksonville, FL in 1983. Mr. Brewer was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was an avid fisherman.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Ethel J. Brewer of Jacksonville, FL; children, James William Brewer, Jr., William Early Brewer, Bonnie Lee Gross, David Allen Brewer, Scott Edward Brewer, Thomas James Brewer, Richard Dee Brewer, Rebecca Jean Brewer; 20 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; sisters, Elsie Hallman and Edna Ditucci. In addition to his parents, Mr. Brewer was preceded in death by his siblings, Robert and John Brewer and Christine Hornsby.
Margie Alexander
ANDERSON — Entered into eternal rest on April 19, 2005, Margie Saylors Alexander, widow of Col. Andrew Jackson Alexander, USAF (Ret.). Residence, Anderson, S.C. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her memorial services at Sullivan and King Mortuary, N.E. Chapel, Wednesday, April 27, 2005, at one o’clock. Interment will be private. Arrangements by J. Margie was born October 31, 1922, in Anderson, S.C., the daughter of John Holcombe Saylors and Mary Jane Drake Saylors. She was a member of Seacoast Christian Community Church and a graduate of Furman University. She was an active volunteer for the Anderson Medical Regional Center for 30 years, a volunteer with Hospice of the Upstate, and was S.C. volunteer of the year in 1998.
Surviving are her daughter, Alis A. Rhoden of Charleston, S.C.; her son, Alan J. Alexander of Alexandria, VA; 3 grandchildren, Brian P. Alexander of Columbia, S.C., Evan D. Alexander of Portland, OR, and Amanda L. Rhoden of Charleston, S.C.

Patricia Shaw
GILBERT — Services for Patricia Varnes Price Shaw, 65, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Beulah United Methodist Church with the Rev. Patricia Parrish officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Barr-Price Funeral Home Historic B-L Chapel. Mrs. Shaw died Thursday, April 21, 2005. Born in Lexington County, a daughter of the late Willard and Mabel Sullivan Varnes, she was a member of Beulah UMC and a retired cashier.
Surviving are daughters, Pam Godfrey of Deatsville, AL, Gay Gambill of Saluda, Suzie Manzanares of Denver, CO; stepdaughters, Cheryl Price of Charlotte, NC, Lisa Parrish of St. Matthews; brothers, Jimmy Varnes of Asheville, NC, Eddie Varnes of Fort Pierce, FL; a sister, Phyllis Steele of Stoneville, NC; grandchildren, Jason, Christopher, Michelle, Rachel, Kelli, Jamie, Destiney, Hailey; great-grandchildren, Alexis and Kelsie Grace.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Charles L. “Bubba” Price and her second husband, Robert Lee Shaw.
Inez B. Carson
EDGEFIELD — Mrs. Inez Bodie Carson, 90, of Gray St., died Wednesday, April 20, 2005, in Edgefield County Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 23, 2005, at Edgefield First Baptist Church with burial in Good Hope Lutheran Cemetery in Ward, S.C.
Mrs. Carson was the wife of the late Loammi J. Carson and the daughter of the late Lovic D. and Nettie Jones Bodie. She was born in Saluda, S.C., and was a member of Edgefield First Baptist Church. She was a retired school teacher. She was a graduate of Ridge Spring High School and Newberry College. She received a Masters degree from the University of South Carolina. She was a member of Edgefield County Educators Assoc., South Carolina Educators Assoc., and National Educators Assoc.
Survivors include her brother, James Bodie, Tryon, N.C.; a sister, Ruth B. Corley, Edgefield; a longtime caregiver, Willie Mae Swearingen. She was predeceased by 2 brothers, David Bodie and Kester Bodie.

Bobby Smith
PAMPLICO — Bobby Smith of Bronx, N.Y., and formerly of Pamplico, passed away on April 15, 2005. Born April 27, 1955, Mr. Smith was the son of the late Mr. Jerry W. Smith and Blanche B. Smith. Mr. Smith is predeceased by one brother, J.W. Smith of Baltimore, Md., and is survived by one brother, Lawrence J. Smith (Margaret) of Capital Heights, Md., and two sisters, Patricia Smith Duggan (Rev. Willie M. Duggan) and Betty Smith Graham (Rev. Dr. Charles E. Graham), both of Columbia.
The family will receive family and friends on Friday, April 22 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at The House of God Holiness Church (Keith Dominion), 432 E. Main St., Pamplico.
Graveside service will be held at Mill Branch A.M.E. Church Cemetery, 1917 North Old River Road, Pamplico, Saturday, April 23, at 11 a.m.

Willie R. Thompson
WINNSBORO — Willie R. Thompson, 63, of 209 Nikon Circle, died April 12, 2005, in West Columbia. He was a native of Fairfield County.
Funeral services will be Saturday, April 23, 2005, at 1 p.m. at Russell-McCutchen Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Shannon officiating.
Born to the late Jerry and Annie B. William Thompson, he is survived by sisters, Margaret Eggleston, Winnsboro, S.C., Claretta Richmond, Ridgeway, S.C., Bernice Wise, Johnston, S.C.

Frances Crouch Timmerman
JOHNSTON — Services for Mrs. Frances Crouch Timmerman, age 96, will be held at Johnston United Methodist Church at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 23, 2005, with burial in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park. The family is at the home of John and Anna Timmerman, 334 Woodridge Road, Edgefield.
Mrs. Timmerman, a native of Johnston, died Wednesday, April 20, 2005. She was a daughter of the late Michael Wilbur and Sue Suber Crouch. She was a retired school teacher. Mrs. Timmerman was a member of Johnston United Methodist Church where she had served on the Administrative Board and as a Sunday School teacher for a number of years, a charter member of the Peach Blossom Garden Club and Pine Ridge Club, Johnston Woman’s Club, and the Bridge and Rook clubs.
Survivors include a son, John Crafton Timmerman, Jr. and wife Anna, Edgefield, and a daughter, Joan Timmerman King and husband Michael, Greenville; grandchildren, John C. Timmerman, III, of Philadelphia, Leslie Alderman of Chapin, Michele Goforth of Edgefield; five great-grandchildren; and Thelma Crouch, sister-in-law and friend. She was predeceased by her husband, John Crafton Timmerman, Sr., brothers, Robert A. Crouch, Wilbur S. Crouch, and sister, Louise Trammell.
James Vincent
KERSHAW — Funeral services for James R. “Jimmy” Vincent, 66, will be held Saturday, April 23, 2005, at 11 a.m. from Bethany Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The Revs. Stacey Hinson, Rev. Jerry Satterfield and Dr. Charles Rabon will officiate.
Mr. Vincent, born in Lancaster, died Wednesday, April 20, 2005. He was the son of the late Sidney Ben and Margaret Taylor Vincent. Mr. Vincent was the owner of Vincent Insulation Company, a member of Bethany Baptist Church, where he was a member of the J.L. Talley Sunday School Class, a member of Westville Fire Department, and a member of Flat Rock Masonic Lodge #178. He was married to Brenda Dowdel Vincent.
Surviving are his wife of the home; a son, James Wayne Vincent, and his wife Debra, of Kershaw; a daughter, Karen Newman, and her husband Greg, of Lugoff, S.C.; his grandchildren, James Eric Vincent, of Kershaw, Charles Dru Hunter, of Coward, S.C. and Bradley (Taylor) Vincent, of Kershaw; brothers, Ben Gerald Vincent, of Kershaw, S.C., William R. Vincent, of Westville, S.C.; sisters, Gayle V. Hunter, of Lancaster, Judy Faye Vincent, of Kershaw, and Jackie Vincent, of Westville, S.C. He was predeceased by 2 brothers, Daniel Durante Vincent and John Marvin Vincent.

Smith of Chicago, Ill.; 14 aunts and 1 uncle and a host of other loving relatives and friends whom will all miss her dearly.
Wesley Hawks
COLUMBIA — Private memorial services for Wesley Calvin Hawks, 69, retired from the Army after 20 years of dedicated service, will be held at a later date. Greenlawn Funeral Home is in charge. Mr. Hawks died Saturday. Born in Akron, Ohio, he was the son of Viola and the late R.C. Hawks. Surviving: son, Michael Douglas Hawks; daughter, Pamela K. Stella Edwards
SALUDA — Ora Stella Bodie Edwards, 78, of 152 Indian Creek Point, died Thursday, April 21, 2005, in Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
Born in Saluda County, a daughter of the late Clarence and Clarissa Johnson Bodie, she was the wife of the late Harold Edwards. She was first married to the late Arthur S. Rhoden. Mrs. Edwards was a former supervisor with the Carolyn Chenille Company and owner of Stella’s Eden. She was a member of Salem Baptist Church where she headed College Ministries, and was a member of Eastern Star.
Surviving is a son and daughter in-law, Sammy and Deborah Cromer Rhoden of Ward, a sister, Lunelle Greene of Hodges, a brother, Bill Bodie of Johnston, four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Two sisters, Codelle Steel and Connie Whitlock, and a brother, Caleb Bodie, preceded Mrs. Edwards in death.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 P.M. Saturday evening at Ramey Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be 3 P.M. Sunday, April 24, 2005, at Salem Baptist Church with the Rev. Rod Elliot officiating.
