John Wilson Jr.

COLUMBIA — Homegoing Service for John Henry Wilson, Jr. “Junior” of Columbia, will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday at Brookland Baptist Church, with burial to follow in Southland Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 6-7 this evening at Bostick-Tompkins Funeral Home.

Mr. Wilson died April 27, 2005. Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late John H. & Margaret Jefferson Wilson. He was employed as a Welder/Electrician with B. F. I. & C.C.C. of Columbia, and he was a member of Brookland Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Cassandra Wilson; children, Joan Myers, John H, III, Troy L & Brittany Wilson; brother, Melvin Wilson; sister, Kayla Wilson; eight grandchildren, all of whom will miss him dearly.

Alice Ruth Covington

GILBERT — Graveside services for Alice Ruth Covington, 83, will be conducted 3 p.m. Monday at Beulah United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Patricia Parrish officiating. The family will receive friends after the service in the church fellowship hall. Barr-Price Funeral Home Historic B-L Chapel is assisting the family.

Memorials may be made to Beulah United Methodist church, 161 Beulah Church Rd., Gilbert, SC 29054.

Ms. Covington died Saturday. Born in Lexington County a daughter of the late John and Lula Harris Covington. She was a member of Beulah United Methodist Church and a longtime resident of the Babcock Center in Columbia.

Surviving are sisters, Hannah C. Price of Gilbert and Ellon Quattlebaum of New Ellenton; brother, Jasper (Jap) Covington of Leesville; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, Hampton, James, Lavern, Paul, Marvin, and Kern Covington and a sister, Lula Mae Roof.

Phyllis G. Glassmire

LEXINGTON — Phyllis Greipp Glassmire, 71, died Friday, April 29, 2005. Born in Philadelphia, PA, she was a daughter of the late Otto and Helen Smith Greipp.

Mrs. Glassmire, widow of George Glassmire, was a local resident since 1987 and attended Corpus Christi Catholic Church.

Surviving are her daughters, Joanne Glassmire and Mary Beth Glassmire, both of Lexington; sons, Phillip Glassmire and Gregg Glassmire, both of Lexington, and George Glassmire of West Columbia; sister, Charmaine Colntine of NJ; grandchildren, Amy and Sean Calhill of NC; and 2 great-grandchildren.

Claude Gause

KINGSTREE — Claude Gause, 69, died Saturday, April 30, 2005 in a Florence hospital after an illness.

Mr. Gause was born June 29, 1935, in the Indiantown community of Williamsburg Co., a son of the late Clyde and Josie Carraway Gause. He was a graduate of Indiantown schools and was the owner of Claude’s Construction Co. Mr. Gause was preceded in death by sisters: Ilaphene Feagin and Juanita Griffin and brother: Donald Lee Gause.

Surviving: His Wife: Mrs. Elizabeth Price Gause of Kingstree, sons: Claude Brian (Cindy) Gause and Bruce Darrell (Amy) Gause, of Kingstree, daughter: Katherine Leonard of Anchorage, Alaska, brothers: Ossie Gause, Thomas Gause and Barney Gause, all of Kingstree, 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 3 P.M. Monday in the Kingstree Pentecostal Holiness Church, conducted by Rev. Alden Johnson and Rev. Billy Lee. Burial will be in the church Cemetery, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 P.M. Sunday at the Funeral Home.

Pauline Keyzer

LAKE WYLIE — Saddened but with grateful remembrance of what she meant to us and others, we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, sister and grandmother.

Mrs. Pauline Rol Keyzer, age 70, of 45 Heritage Drive, Lake Wylie, SC, was born February 20, 1935, in Wieringer Waard Netherlands, and died April 29, 2005, at her home.

She was the daughter of the late Klaas Rol and the late Janna de Nooyes Rol.

Surviving are husband, Willem Keyzer, of the home; daughters, Helene Pauline Keyzer, Belmont, NC, Alexandra Keyzer Parks, Columbia, SC; sister, Wollie Ellendt-Rol, Netherlands; five grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, 2005 at River Hills Community Church, conducted by the Rev. Bruce Jones and Rev. Clarence Durham. Interment will be in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 Tuesday night at M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home, Clover, SC. Memorials may be made to Hospice at Charlotte, 1420 East Seventh St., Charlotte, NC 28204.

James Henry Rice IV

FLORENCE — James Henry Rice, IV, 77, died in Florence on Sunday, April 24, 2005.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 7, 2005, in All Saints Episcopal Church, with a reception following in the Parish Hall.

He was the son of the late Marguerite Palmer Locke Rice and James Henry Rice III, the grandson of Julia Wayne Locke and William Gayer Locke Sr., and Jennie Maner Rice and James Henry Rice Jr. He graduated from Charleston High School in Charleston and served in the United States Navy.

Mr. Rice was a 1950 graduate of Clemson College. He worked with Southern Bell Telephone, IDS, and Financial Service Corporation. He had his own business, James H. Rice Financial Planning, for thirty years.

He was a charter member of All Saints Episcopal Church, and served as the first president of the church Men’s Club. He was also a member of the church choir for 22 years. He was a former member of the Florence Lions Club.

Surviving him are his four daughters, Sarah Wayne Rice of Seattle, WA, Nancy Rice Denton of Atlanta, GA, Frances Rice-Pelepko of Seattle, WA, and Marguerite Rice McLeod of Columbia, SC. Also surviving him are 8 granddaughters, a grandson, 3 nieces and a nephew. Also surviving him is his former wife and friend, Sarah “Chubby” Covington Rice.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to All Saints Episcopal Church, 1425 Cherokee Road, Florence, SC 29501.

Waters-Powell Funeral Home is assisting the family of Mr. Rice.

Thomas Johnstone Jr.

GREENVILLE — Thomas Kennerly Johnstone, Jr., 91, of 134 Lakecrest Dr., Greenville, died Friday, April 29, 2005 at his residence.

Born in Newberry on March 16, 1914, he was a son of the late Thomas Kennerly Johnstone, Sr. and Jeanne Pelham Johnstone.

Mr. Johnstone graduated with honors from Clemson College, was a member of Blue Key Leadership Fraternity, and was president of his senior class.

He served his country in the US Army Air Corps for five years during WWII, leaving with rank of Colonel.

Mr. Johnstone graduated from Law School at the University of South Carolina and completed his graduate study at the New York University School of Law. He taught school in Orangeburg.

Mr. Johnstone practiced law with Haynesworth, Perry, Bryant, Marion, and Johnstone Law Firm for 48 years, from which he retired in 1989.

He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, serving as Deacon and Elder.

Mr. Johnstone served on the School Board of Greenville County for 15 years and also served as chairman. He was a member of Greenville Hospital System Board of Directors and also served as chairman . He was a member of the Cotillion Club, Green Valley Country Club, and Poinsett Club.

Surviving are his wife Minnie Greene Moore “Metro” Johnstone; daughter, Anna Moore Johnstone Straughn of Atlanta, GA; two sons, Thomas Kennerly Johnstone, III of Reidsville, NC and Alan Henry Johnstone of Greenville; two sisters, Lilla Johnstone Breazeal of Laurinburg, NC and Jeanne Johnstone Hancock of Easley; one brother, Alan McCrary Johnstone of Orangeburg; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by sister Brantly J. Alexander and brother Ellerbe Pelham Johnstone.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 am at Westminster Presbyterian Church, with committal following at 1:30 pm in Johnstone Family Cemetery in Newberry, SC. Visitation will be held prior to the service at 9:30 am at the church.

Memorials may be made to Thornwell Children’s Home, Clinton, SC 20325.

The family is at the residence, 134 Lakecrest Dr., Greenville, SC 29609.

Rev. Ralph T. Lowrimore Sr.

CAYCE — Services for Rev. Ralph Thomas Lowrimore, Sr., 76, will be held at 11am Monday, May 2, 2005, at Cayce United Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. Michael Henderson, with entombment at Southland Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8pm Sunday at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cayce United Methodist Church Building Fund; Epworth Children’s Home; or The United Methodist Foundation.

Rev. Lowrimore, widower of Betty Jo Grubbs Lowrimore, died Friday, April 29, 2005. Born in West Columbia on January 18, 1929, he was a son of the late Charles Rozier and Eunice Tomlinson Lowrimore. He was a graduate of Brookland-Cayce High School, Wofford College (A.B., 1952) and Emory University, Candler School of Theology (M. Div., 1956). Rev. Lowrimore served in the U.S. Army as a First Lieutenant from 1952-1954 and as a U.S. Army Reserves First Lieutenant from 1954-59. He attended Cayce United Methodist Church and the Seekers Sunday School Class. Rev. Lowrimore was received into full connection and served in active ministry with the United Methodist Church until his retirement in 1994. His appointments included Upper Dawson Circuit (North GA 1954); Rock Springs Circuit (North GA 1955); Arial-McKissick Memorial (Easley SC 1956); Calhoun Falls (1959); Trinity (Newberry 1963); Gravely Memorial (Spartanburg 1966); Suber-Marshall Memorial (Columbia 1968); Olanta (1970); Wayne (Georgetown 1973); Branchville (1977); Jackson (1981); Hickory Grove (1983); Fair Lawn (Blythewood 1989). He served as Chaplain for the Cayce American Legion Post #130. Rev. Lowrimore also served as a member of Town & Country; TRAFCO; Golden Cross; President’s Ministerial Advisory Council, Columbia College; Who’s Who in the Methodist Church; Greenwood District Rural Minister of the Year 1965 and the Lions Club.

Surviving are his children, Karen L. Bickley (Mrs. James M.); R. Thomas Lowrimore, II, (Cathi Doan); Pamela L. Jenkins (Mrs. Philip W.); grandson, John Colin Lowrimore of Spartanburg.

He was predeceased by a brother, Charles Ashpie Lowrimore.

Charlie Simpson Jr.

MANNING — Services for Charlie Thomas “Buddy” Simpson Jr., 60, widower of Barbara Jeter Simpson, are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Stephens Funeral Home with burial in Clarendon Memorial Gardens. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Monday at Stephens Funeral Home. Born in Manning to Charlie Sr. and Warrine McLeod Simpson, he died April 30, 2005. Surviving are seven daughters; five siblings; 18 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

Hamp Hurt

SALUDA — Dewey Hammond “Hamp” Hurt, 91, died Saturday, April 30, 2005, at Saluda Nursing Center.

Born in Saluda County and a son of the late Farris H. and Lillian Eidson Hurt, he was the husband of Frances Lake Hurt. Mr. Hurt was a retired carpenter/contractor and enjoyed helping neighbors and fishing. He was a lifelong Baptist and served in many capacities at Richland Springs Baptist Church and later at Sardis Baptist Church where he was presently a member.

Surviving is his wife, Frances Lake Hurt, three daughters and sons-in-law, Geraldine and Aughtry Bowers of Columbia, Winifred and Frank Griffith of Greenville and Shelby and Bobby Smith of Lexington; one sister, Miriam Penn of Ward, grandchildren, Deirdre and Mike Troxel, Kirk Bowers, Gary and Shannon Griffith, Libby and Matt Mizell, Walter Griffith, Jesseca Smith and David Hurt and great-grandchildren, Branderis, Louis, Wilson, Jordan and Gracen Troxel and Micah and Caleb Griffith.

Mr. Hurt was preceded in death by a son and daughter-in-law, Dewey and Jane Hurt, two grandsons, Wade Griffith and Jonathan Hurt, two brothers Blease Hurt and Pat Hurt and a sister, Rebecca Bodie.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Monday, May 2, 2005, at Sardis Baptist Church with Rev. Dennis Campbell and Rev. Mike Troxel officiating. Interment will follow in Furman Matthews Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM Sunday evening at Ramey Funeral Home.

MONCKS CORNER — Services for Johnny Clifton “Cliff” Richburg Jr., 25, are 2 p.m. at Stephens Funeral Home, Manning; burial: Oak Grove Cemetery. Stephens Funeral Home, Manning, is in charge. Born to Johnny and Janice Disher Richburg, he died April 28, 2005. Surviving: father; stepmother, Deborah Richburg; grandmother, Margaret Disher; son, Tanner Richburg; brother, Joshua Richburg; 3 stepsiblings.
