SUMTER — Services for Priscilla Bell “Cilla” B. Buckman, 51, are 3 p.m. Wednesday: Calvary Bapt. Church, burial: Calvary Cemetery, both in Pinewood. Job’s Mortuary is in charge. Born in Lake City to Willie & Rosa Blaine Butler, she died April 28, 2005. Surviving: husband, Grealy Jr.; sons, DaQuan, Chase; grandchild, Telaysia; parents; siblings, Willie Jr., Samuel, Harry, Tony, Michael, Dwayne Butler, Elizabeth Adams.

William Bennett

SPRINGFIELD — Services for William Murray Bennett, 80, will be held eleven a.m. Wednesday, May 4, 2005, at Springfield United Methodist Church with burial in the Springfield Cemetery. Visitation held one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to the Springfield United Methodist Church , P.O. Box 207 Springfield SC 29146 or Springfield Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 2, Springfield SC 29146. The family will be at the home of L. Edward Bennett on Bennett Street. Folk Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Born in Springfield, he was a son of the late Lennox Murray Bennett and Mattie Mae Strickland Bennett. He was a member of the Springfield United Methodist Church, attended Clemson University and was a graduate of the University of S.C. School of Business. He was a loyal gamecock fan. He was a W.W.II retired Navy veteran, having served in the Medical Corps. Mr. Bennett was a former assistant manager of the local Springfield Bank and was in business with his father at Bennett’s Department Store in Springfield.

Survivors include his sister and brother-in-law, Mildred B. and Rod Graham; niece and nephew, Joey Williamson and Judy Tinder; great-nephews, Joseph and Michael Williamson; great-nieces, Brooke and Brittany Tinder.

Frank F. Corbett

SAWYERDALE — Mr. Frank F. Corbett, 69, entered into rest Sunday, May 1st, 2005, in Palmetto Health Richland Hospital. Mr. Corbett was born in Orangeburg County, the son of the late David and Florence Scott Corbett. He was also preceded in death by a brother, A.C. Corbett and a sister, Marjorie Jeffcoat. He was a member of Rocky Grove Baptist Church and retired from Savannah River Plant after 35 years of service. Mr. Corbett is survived by his wife, Peggy Miller Corbett, three sons, Robert and Nancy Corbett, Allen Corbett, all of North, and Ken and Maribeth Corbett of Irmo, 4 grandchildren, a sister, Hazel Rawls of Salley, two brothers, Cecil Corbett of Orangeburg and Scott Corbett of Blackville, and a brother-in-law, Cebron Jeffcoat of Sawyerdale. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 3rd, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Wagener Chapel of Blizzard Funeral Home, 163 Main St. South, Wagener, S.C. The Funeral Service will be Wednesday May 4th at 4 p.m. at Rocky Grove Baptist Church with the Reverends Carl Koon and Brian Thomason officiating. Mr. Corbett will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Clinton United Methodist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bryant Corbett, David Jeffcoat, Dean Rawls, Don Rawls, Randy Harsey, Greg Williams and John Foster. Blizzard Funeral Home, 153 Main St. South, Wagener, S.C. (803) 564-5333 is in charge of services.

Charles Cooper

COLUMBIA — Services for Charles W. Cooper, 84, will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with burial in Sumter Cemetery, Sumter, at 5 p.m. Rev. Dr. B. Mike Alexander and Rev. Diana C. Westerkam will officiate. Serving as active pallbearers will be David Hickman, Michael Hanna, Leo Fellwock, Danny Derrick, Tim McKeever, Dunbar Goldbold, Bill Thomas and John Hirsch. The family will receive friends Tuesday 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Cooper died Monday, May 2, 2005, at his residence. Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Julius Albert Cooper and Willie Eva Young Cooper. An Army veteran of WW II, he served in North Africa and Europe. He was a member of Washington Street United Methodist Church, American Legion Post #6, former member of VFW and Clemson IPTAY member for fifty plus years.

Surviving are his wife, Martha “Mott” Graham Cooper; sons, Charles William Cooper, Jr. and his wife, Rhonda, of Brentwood, Tenn., and Graham Albert Cooper of Columbia; daughter, Mary Elizabeth “Beth” Cooper of Columbia; grandsons, Perry Tillman Cooper and Bennett William Cooper of Brentwood, Tenn.; and granddaughters, Faith Graham Cooper and Hope Nicole Cooper of Columbia. He was predeceased by a twin brother and also an older brother, Julius A. Cooper, Jr.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Washington Street United Methodist Church, The Parking Lot Fund, 1401 Washington St., Columbia ,SC 29201.

Lucinda Landy Davenport

COLUMBIA — Services for Mrs. Lucinda Landy Davenport will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday at Second Nazareth Baptist Church with burial in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens. Leevy’s Funeral Home, Taylor Street Chapel is in charge. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. at the family home on 7900 Hunt Club Road. Surviving are her daughter, Thelma Graham; two granddaughters, Rosalyn Graham and Darise Graham, all of Columbia; many family members and friends. Memorials may be made to the Palmetto Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association or Palmetto Health Hospice.

Eva Fanning

NORWAY — Mrs. Eva Mae Lucas Fanning, 69, wife of Charley Morris Fanning, of 192 Peach Orchard Drive, Norway, S.C., died Sunday, May 1, 2005, in The Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg after a brief illness. Funeral is 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, 2005, at Lebanon United Methodist Church in Norway. Rev. Mark Altman will officiate, with burial in Lebanon United Methodist Church Cemetery, Norway. Thompson Funeral Home is in charge. She was born December 30, 1935, in Gaston, S.C. She was the daughter of the late Julius L. and Evan Brown Lucas. Mrs. Fanning was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon Kay Fanning, and four brothers, Mr. J.C. Lucas and Mr. Woodrow Lucas of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Mr. Harold Lucas and Mr. Harvey Lucas of Apple Valley, CA. Survivors include her husband, Charley Morris Fanning of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Len (Kathy) Felkel of Elloree; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Danny (Sharon) Fanning of Orangeburg, Mr. and Mrs. Kenny (Jan) Fanning of Orangeburg; two sisters, Mrs. Mary L. Craft of Pelion and Mr. and Mrs. Edward (Vernelle) Hall of Gaston; one brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Julius L. (Lynn) Lucas Jr. of Hampton; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Elsie Lucas of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Mrs. Rachel Lucas of Realto, CA; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many loving members of the Fanning family. Friends may call at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Kenny Fanning, 873 Barrington Drive, Orangeburg, and at the funeral home. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Thompson Funeral Home in Orangeburg. Robert Hutto

WINNSBORO — Services for Robert Douglas Hutto, 50, will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, May 4, 2005, at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, with interment to follow in Olympia Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 3, 2005, at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel.

Mr. Hutto died Monday, May 2, 2005. Born January 10, 1955, in Columbia, S.C., he was the son of the late Ralph Hoyt and Dollie Mae Hutto.

He is survived by his brother, Bobby James Murphy Sr. and his wife, Barbara Hinson of Lexington; nieces and nephews, Melissa Sackel, Tina Browder, Angela Harper, Bobby James Murphy, Jr.

William M. Epps

CLEMSON — William Monroe Epps, 88, died Monday, May 2, 2005, in Anderson Area Medical Center. He was born in Latta, S.C., the son of the late Silas Wightman and Caroline Monroe Epps.

He was a graduate of Latta High School. He received a B.S. degree from Clemson College and a Ph.D. from Cornell University. He was a member of the following honorary and professional fraternities: Phi Kappa Phi, Alpha Zeta, Sigma Xi, and Gamma Sigma Delta.

During World War II, he served in the United States Army for four years, at Fort Benning, Georgia; Edgewood Arsenal, Maryland; and Camp Detrick, Maryland. He was separated at the end of the war with the rank of Major. He remained in the Army Reserves and retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

He was employed as a Plant Pathologist with Clemson College from December 1945 to July 1956. He engaged in vegetable research at the Truck Experiment Station at Charleston, S.C. While there, he developed the Marion and Culiacan I tomatoes and did research on the diseases of tomatoes and other vegetables. He was Head of the Botany and Bacteriology Department at Clemson University from 1956 to 1969 and of the Plant Pathology and Physiology Department from 1969 until his retirement in 1978. During these years he taught Introductory Plant Pathology and a graduate course in Physiology of Parasitism.

He was an active life-time member of the United Methodist Church. He served as Charge Lay Leader, Chair of the Administrative Board, Finance Committee, and Staff Parish Relations Committee. He served as a Sunday School teacher and was a member of the Men’s Club. He was a delegate to S.C. Annual Conference many times and a delegate to the World Methodist Conference in Nairobi, Kenya in 1986, and in Singapore in 1991. He was a Certified Lay Speaker and a Lay Speaker Instructor. He served eight years on the Conference Nominating Committee. After his retirement in 1978, he worked as a volunteer carpenter with Habitat for Humanity in Pickens County and with the United Methodist Volunteers In Missions Program in Costa Rica, Honduras, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Brazil, and the Bahamas, where he helped build and repair churches, schools, and homes.

He was a member and Past President of the Clemson Lions Club, the Clemson Fellowship Club, and the Clemson Sage Club.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Evelyn Baker Epps; two sons, James W. Epps (Nellie) of Tupelo, MS, and Philip O. Epps (Judy) of Prosperity, S.C.; two brothers, D. Ethan Epps (Louise) and C. Olin Epps (Eloise) both of Latta, S.C.; one sister, Martha E. Frye of Carthage, N.C.; and two grandchildren, Corey B. Epps and Karley J. Epps.

He was predeceased by a brother, James Wightman Epps.

Burial services will be Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at Old Stone Church Cemetery. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. at Clemson United Methodist Church and be conducted by the Reverend George K. Howle. Pallbearers are David E. Epps, Jr., Corey B. Epps, Jerry H. Martin, James C. (Jay) Baker, Jr., Daniel W. Odom, and John W. Pugh. Visitation will follow in the church fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorials to the Clemson United Methodist Church, 195 Old Greenville Hwy, Clemson, SC 29631, or to the George M. Armstrong Fund of the Plant Pathology and Physiology Department, Clemson University.

Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, Central-Clemson Commons, is assisting the family with arrangements.

James Foster

COLUMBIA — Services for James Rick Foster, 53, will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Greenlawn Funeral Home with burial in Serenity Memorial Gardens. Visitation is 7-9 tonight at the funeral home. Mr. Foster died May 1, 2005. Surviving: his mother, Dorothy C. Foster; daughters, Jamie Foster, Jackie Tyler; brothers, Jerry, Johnny and Russ Foster; grandchildren, Makayla, Gregory, Ranyhyn; nieces, nephews.

Doris L. Williams

LEXINGTON — Memorial services for Doris LaDean Williams, 75, will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 4, 2005, at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 3, 2005, at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, Mid-State Chapter, PO Box 7044, Columbia, SC 29202-7044.

Mrs. Williams, widow of Numan Williams. Born January 1, 1930, in Springfield, MO, she was the daughter of the late Neil and Madelyn Wilson. She was a retired school teacher.

She is survived by her daughter, Louise Diodato (Virgil) of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; son, Bob Williams (Judy) of Red Bank, S.C.; sister, Lois Ray (Don) of Belton, MO.

Clarence A. DeCosta

ULMERS — Clarence A. DeCosta, 74, entered into eternal rest Saturday, April 30th at his residence. A celebration of life will be held Tuesday, May 3rd at 5 p.m. at Dyches Funeral Home Chapel in Barnwell with the Rev. Michael DeCosta and Dean Deer officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to service.

Born in Groton, CT, Mr. DeCosta was the son of the late Clarence and Anna Wargo DeCosta. He was a retired shipbuilder, a Korean War veteran and in the U.S. Navy.

Survivors include three daughters: Debbie DeCosta Razo of Cleburne, Texas , Karin DeCosta Chavis of Barnwell, Kerrie DeCosta Bates of Ulmers; two sons, Michael DeCosta of Greenville and Steven DeCosta of Ulmers; two brothers, Ronnie DeCosta and Raymond DeCosta, both of Florida; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to The Open Door Baptist Church, 301 South, Bamberg, S.C., the Barnwell City Girls softball team, or Barnwell High School Softball team.

Friends may call at the residence or Dyches Funeral Home.

Vera Mae Eichelberger

COLUMBIA — Services for Vera Mae Eichelberger, 53, will be held at 3 p.m. today at Pleasant Springs AME Church, Irmo. Jones Metropolitan Funeral Home, West Columbia, is in charge. Born in Richland Co. to Nathaniel Coleman and Verda Mae Quattlebaum, she died April 25, 2005. Surviving are her mother; son, Patrick Eichelberger; sister, Barbara Hallman; brother, Willie Hill.

Roxie L. Gray

BATESBURG — Roxie L. Gray, 95, of 115 Summerland Ave., Batesburg, S.C., died April 28, 2005, in Lexington Medical Center. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 4, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with interment in B&L Memorial Park. The Rev. Ronnie Peterson will officiate.

Mrs. Gray was a daughter of the late John and Mattie Fuller Welton. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where she served on the Senior Usher Board. She was Mother of the Church. She was a member of New Star Chapter 1 of Order of Eastern Stars.

Survivors: husband, Matthew Gray; daughter, Vera Foulks Clark of Washington , D.C.; three stepdaughters; four stepsons; four grandsons, Vernon Clark, David E. Clark Jr., William Clark and Christopher Clark; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren 24 stepgrandchildren; 39 stepgreat-grandchildren; 14 stepgreat-great-grandchildren; one sister, Julia Murray of Washington , D.C.; one goddaughter, CharadeJa Jeffcoat; and many nieces and nephews.

Mary Oneal Gainey

HARTSVILLE — Funeral services for Mary Sylvia Oneal Gainey, age 82, widow of Thinder Gainey, who died May 2, 2005, will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Dovesville Church of God. Burial will be in the church Cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home. Visitation will be Tuesday 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Gainey was born in Darlington Co., a daughter of the late Prince and Maggie Gainey Oneal. Surviving are daughters: Judy Stephens, Kathryn Melton, Louise Henson, Linda Atkinson,Theresa Hyman; sons: Jolly, Toney, Bennie Ray, Wendell Gainey, sisters: Lou Ellen Wilson, Fayedeen Winburn, brother: Buddy Oneal. She was preceded in death by a son, Gerald Gainey and a daughter, Regunia Gainey, 31 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild.
