Jacob Samuel Bowers

NEWBERRY — Services for Jacob Samuel “Sam” Bowers will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Zion United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to J.F. Hawkins Health Care Folk Unit, 1330 Kinard Street, Newberry, SC 29108.

Mr. Bowers, 73, died May 4, 2005. Born in Prosperity, he was a son of the late George Andrew and Nancy Cook Bowers. He had retired from Bowers BP and was a member of Zion United Methodist Church where he was a member of the John Wesley Sunday School Class. Mr. Bowers enjoyed working with his tractors and gardening.

He is survived by a daughter, Nancy B. (Glenn) Wicker of Newberry; a brother, Oscar W. (Marian) Bowers of Prosperity; grandchildren, Andrew Wicker and Michelle Wicker. He was predeceased by a sister, Reba Chapman.

Willie Young

WINNSBORO — Services for Willie R. Young will be 3 p.m. Friday at Cross All Boundries Church, Ridgeway, with burial in Evergreen Cemetery. Gibson’s Funeral Services is in charge. He was born in Winnsboro to Willie J. and Kathleen Rawls Young. Surviving: wife, Sallie M. Young; daughters, Barbara, Lakeshia, Tanisha Young; father; siblings, James, Charles, Larry, Joseph and Linda; five grandchildren.

Ernest Williams

FAIRFAX — Services with burial for Ernest “Sonny” Williams, 56, will be 2 p.m. Friday at Long Branch Baptist Church, Gifford. Viewing is noon-8 p.m. today at M.F. Riley’s Funeral Home. Born in Allendale Co. to Ernest Sr. and Sarah Williams, he died April 28, 2005. Surviving: children, Dana, Laura Williams; mother; siblings, Lena Eady, Shirley Roberts, Gladys, Malcolm, Harry, Lanwourd, Terry, John Williams.

Charles “Chuck” Parrish

EASLEY — Charles Addison “Chuck” Parrish, 58, died Tuesday, May 3, 2005, in the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson, after a courageous battle with brain cancer.

Born in Greenville County and reared in Greenville, Raleigh, N.C., and Easley, Chuck was the son of Mrs. Ernestine Sitton Parrish of Easley and the late Benson Clayton Parrish, Sr. He was a graduate of Easley High School and Clemson University and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Easley.

He served in the S.C. National Guard, Easley unit, from 1968 until 1974. Chuck was devoted to his alma mater, Clemson, and was a sports enthusiast. He was also known to be a very empathetic supporter of his USC, UNC and Duke buddies. During his career, Chuck served as Assistant Pro at Green Valley Country Club in Greenville and Club Manager of Belle Isle Plantation in Georgetown. His illness forced his retirement as a golf director from Brunswick Plantation on the North Carolina coast.

A resident, until recently, of North Myrtle Beach, Chuck enjoyed his passions of dancing, playing golf, and beach music. His charismatic personality was a joy to all he met, and no one was a stranger.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, are a daughter, Lee McDowell Parrish and her fiance, Yancey A. McLeod, III, a son, Charles Addison Parrish, Jr., a sister, Stella Sitton Parrish, all of Columbia, a brother, Benson C. Parrish, Jr. and his wife, Meredith, of Lincolnton, GA, nine nieces, nephews and their spouses, and a great-niece. Chuck was predeceased by his heroes, father, Benson Clayton Parrish, Sr. and sister, Tena Parrish Hendricks.

Memorial services will be 4 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church, Easley, with Rev. Mac Kinnett officiating.

The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service.

Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Beale, Wendell Cantrell, John Cartee, Johnny Cutchin, Syd McDaniel, George Osburn, Dr. Calvin Snipes, Dr. Bill Spearman, Glenn Vick, The Honorable Edward Welmaker and Wayne Williams.

A celebration of Chuck’s life will be conducted at a later date by faithful friends at the OD Pavilion in North Myrtle Beach.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621 or to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 582, Easley, SC 29641 or to the charity of one’s choice.

The family is at the home of his mother, Mrs. Benson C. Parrish, 607 West Main Street, Easley, SC 29640.

Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown is assisting the family with arrangements.

Elizabeth Glover

ALLENDALE — Services for Elizabeth P. Glover, 90, widow of Richard Brown Sr., 2 p.m. Friday at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, burial in Hoover Cemetery. Cave Funeral Service is in charge. Born to Clarence Sr. and Lucy Allen Priester, she died April 29, 2005. Surviving: children, Helen Green, Bernice Dorch, Eva Jolly, Margaret Riley, Jeannette, Richard Jr., Willie, Jerry Brown; siblings, Clarence Jr., Eartha Priester.

Lt. Col. David Day

SUMTER — Services for Lt. Col. David Frederick Day, USAF (Ret.), 67, widower of Mary Andrade Day, 10 a.m. Friday at St. Jude Catholic Church, burial in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with full military honors, prayer service 6 tonight (visitation to 8 p.m.) at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home. Born in Carnegie, Pa., to David Day and Agnes Black, he died May 1, 2005. Surviving: children; grandchildren.

E.A. “Spang” Ferguson

COPE — Elbert Ansel “Spang” Ferguson, 80, of 1321 Blewer Road, Cope, died Wednesday morning, May 4, 2005, in The Regional Medical Center.

Graveside funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, May 6, in Memorial Park Cemetery. Dukes Harley Funeral Home is in charge.

Mr. Ferguson was born in Branchville, a son of the late Barney Vincent and Lila Wannamaker Ferguson. He was a retired machinist from Mayer Industries with 30 years of service. Mr. Ferguson was a member of the Bamberg Masonic Lodge. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in WWII.

Surviving are 3 sons, Harry Scott Ferguson, Cope, Richard Vincent Ferguson, Orangeburg, Michael Jay Ferguson, Cope; 2 sisters, Mrs. Junelle F. Hill, Lake Murray, Mrs. Velma F. Inabinet, Columbia; 4 grandchildren, Michelle Champy, Harry S. Ferguson, Jr., Danny Boltin and Ric Anne Ferguson.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Orangeburg, P.O. Box 2352, Orangeburg, SC 29116.

Gary Beaver

BATESBURG — Gary D. Beaver, 61, son of Doris Beaver and the late Lester Beaver, died April 30, 2005. The memorial service is 2 p.m. Saturday at Jehovah’s Witness Kingdom Hall, Hwy. 23. Walters-Davis Funeral Chapel is in charge. Survivors: mother; wife, Teresa Susan Beaver; sons, Darren and Michael Beaver; daughter, Jessica B. Adams.

Betty Jean Hart

COLUMBIA — Mrs. Betty Jean Hart of 100 Ripplemeyer Avenue, 11-H, Columbia, died Tuesday, May 3, 2005. The family will greet friends at 1508 Hard Scrabble Road, Columbia. Leevy’s Funeral Home, Taylor Street Chapel, is in charge. Surviving are her stepchildren, Beverly Hart (Ezell) Pittman, Gloria Burton, Agnes Hart, Joyce (Bobby) Hunter, Minnie (Frank) Hingleton, Harold Hart, and Frank (Beverly) Hart III.

Alice Germack

COLUMBIA — A Memorial Mass for Alfreda Antoinette “Alice” Ostrowski Germack, 86, will be celebrated Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 3600 Devine Street, Columbia, SC 29205. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.

Mrs. Germack, wife of the late Charles J. Germack, entered into eternal rest to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Monday, May 2, 2005. Born in Philadelphia, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Julian and Sophia Lepkowski Ostrowski. She was a communicant of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Surviving are her son, Charles J. Germack of Las Vegas, Nev., and daughter, Mary A. Germack of Columbia.

Luise Liebson

COLUMBIA — Luise Koerner Liebson, 71, wife of the late Joseph Liebson, died Monday, May 2, 2005. Born in Zweibrucken, Germany, she was the daughter of the late August and Helen Koerner.

Surviving are her sons, Richard Liebson of White Plains, N.Y., Bruce Liebson and David Liebson, both of Greenwich, Conn.; daughters, Liza Liebson and Laura Liebson, both of Acapulco, Mexico, and Edda Reschke of Zweibrucken, Germany; brother, Klaus Koerner of Germany; six grandchildren; special friend, Inge Harper of Columbia.

Joe C. Williams

NEESES — Joe C. Williams, 81, of Neeses, died Wednesday, May 4, 2005.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, May 6, 2005, at Mt. Beulah Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Henry Chavis officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The casket will be placed in the church at 2 p.m.

Mr. Williams was born in Neeses, a son of the late Knolton and Annie Maude Hoover Williams. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He had retired from M.B. Kahn Construction Company. He was a member of Mt. Beulah Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Survivors include his wife, Lessie Chavis Williams, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Kim Williams, of Dandridge, TN; two granddaughters: Jennifer Hoover, of Columbia; and Kris Williams, of Dandridge, TN; a great-granddaughter, Tori Hoover, of Neeses; three brothers: James Williams, Jim Williams, and Paul Williams, all of Neeses; and best friends, Jimmy Lee Young and Ruby Hoover, both of Neeses.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Culler-McAlhany Funeral Home in North and other times at the 411 Fire Tower Road, Neeses.

Mary Walker

CLEMSON — Mary Duckett Walker, 83, widow of Joseph S. Walker, died Wednesday, May 4, 2005, in Greenville Memorial Hospital. She was born in Whitmire, S.C., to the parents of the late Dr. Robert M. and Mary Elizabeth Wright Duckett on April 20, 1922.

She graduated from Whitmire High School, attended the University of S.C., belonging to Beta Delta of Delta Zeta Soroity, attended Charlotte Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, volunteered in U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps, WWII, member of the Red Cross. She was employed by Clemson University in 1952 and retired in 1975.

Mary was a soloist in the Fort Hill Presbyterian Church and many years in the Holy Trinity Episcopal Parish, member of Clemson Community Chorus, Friendship Garden Club, National Campers and Hikers Association, Tiger Travelers Club, and Travel-Masters Camping Club. Mary was also a miniaturist.

She is survived by a stepson, Joseph S. Walker, Jr. of Lexington, S.C.; stepdaughter, Joanna Seitz of LaGrange, GA; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her stepdaughters, Sarah W. Cureton and Dorothy W. Anderson; sisters, Ann D. Reynolds and Kalesta D. McCourry, and brother, Robert “Max” M. Duckett, Jr.

Graveside services will be Friday at 3 p.m. at Oconee Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1-2 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to ALS Association of Georgia, 1955 Cliff Valley Way, Suite 116, Atlanta, GA 30329-2437.

Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, Central-Clemson Commons, is assisting the family with arrangements.
