Lee S. Tindall

ST. MATTHEWS — Lee Samuel Tindall, 35, of 62 Dogwood Acres Trail, died Thursday, Wednesday May 4, 2005, at his residence. Services are 11 a.m. Saturday, May 7th, at St. Paul United Methodist Church with Rev. James McGee officiating. Dukes-Harley Funeral Home is in charge. Mr. Tindall was born in Orangeburg, a son of Henry B. and Harriett Frazier Tindall. He owned and operated Tindall Lawn Care and Landscaping Service. He was a graduate of Riverside Military Academy and received a Degree in Criminal Justice from Trident Technical College. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. Mr. Tindall was an avid motorcyclist and competed in Land Speed Racing as a member of the S.N.A.R.T. Race Team. He held several land speed racing records. Survivors: wife: Shannon Wilson Tindall; 2 sons: Liam Alexander Tindall, Samuel Wilson Tindall; parents of St. Matthews; maternal grandmother: Evelyn McDaniel Bryan, Walterboro; 2 sisters: Deborah T. Hargis, Burlington, N.C., Luisa T. Faile, Florence. Family will receive friends Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Dukes-Harley Funeral Home. At other times friends may call at the residence.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church, 1808 Bridge St. East, St. Matthews, SC 29135 or to TRMC Foundation, 3000 St. Matthews Road, Orangeburg, SC 29115.

Wendell VanWey

LEESVILLE — Wendell Ray VanWey, 69, died Wednesday, May 4, 2005. Funeral services will be held in Jamestown, Ohio, along with burial. Visitation will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, May 6, 2005, at Milton Shealy Funeral Home.

Mr. VanWey was born in Jamestown, Ohio, to the late Elmer and Ida Anderson VanWey. He served 22 years in the Navy. He was employed by Gregory Electric of Columbia. He helped start and was a life member of V.F.W. Post No. 6740 in Leesville.

Surviving are his wife, Leona Fost VanWey; brothers, Wayne T. VanWey, David VanWey, both of Ohio; sisters, Katherine Kimbley, Rebecca Creamer, both of Ohio; numerous nieces and nephews; great and great-great-nieces and nephews in Ohio and S.C.

Milton Shealy Funeral Home 803-532-6100 is in charge of all arrangements.

Sara Ann Taylor

WEST COLUMBIA — Services for Sara Ann Taylor, 72, of West Columbia, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 7, 2005, at Northside Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. J.O. Reed, Jr. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia. Memorials may be made to Tri-County Hospice, 111 Executive Pointe Blvd., Columbia, SC 29210.

Ms. Taylor died peacefully at her home on Wednesday, May 4, 2005. Born in Columbia, she was a daughter of the late Walter “Shine” and Margaret Hoover Taylor. Ms. Taylor was a member of Northside Baptist Church and the Ms. Lottie’s Sunday School Class. She had retired as a supervisor from Cooper Air Tools.

Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, Susan C. and Donald Mingie of Lexington, Loretta C. and Casey Cooper of Andrews; son and his special friend, Willie A. “Bubba” Cagle, Jr. and Robin D. Sears of West Columbia, son and daughter-in-law, Charles Christopher Allen and Judy Yearwood Cagle of Lexington; sisters, Doris Huffstetler, Christi French, Louie Lucas, June Rutland; brothers, Butch Taylor, Harold Taylor, Steve Taylor; grandchildren, Scott A. Mingie, Summer H. Mingie, Chip Cooper, Sandra L. Cooper, Lora C. Sanders; great-grandchildren, Mekayla C. Mingie, Brock D. Elliott, Jaida L. Elliott, Joseph Cooper and Skylar Sanders.

Ms. Taylor was predeceased by a brother, Alton Taylor, and a son, Clifford A. Cagle.

A special thank you to Tanya Bennett for all the love and care you gave mother during her time of illness.

Angela Wilson

LAKE CITY — Services for Angela Monique Wilson, 28, 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Mark Believers Holiness Church. Burial: Rest Lawn Cemetery, directed by Green’s Funeral Home. She died May 2, 2005. Surviving: children, Darvelle, Anbrielle; parents, Vincent and Mary Nell Pitts; siblings, Michael Wilson, Vincent Pitts Jr., Vincent Roberson, Quinn Montgomery, Chatosha Pitts; fiance; grandparents; uncles; aunt.

Dr. Drennan H. Brown

EASLEY — Drennan Horace Brown, D.D.S., 83, of 105 B. Cate Court, died Wednesday, May 4, 2005, in the Hospice House in Anderson.

Born in Abbeville County, he was a son of the late Horace D. and Mabel Boyd Brown of the Mt. Carmel area of South Carolina, where he was reared.

Dr. Brown was a graduate of Clemson University and Emory School of Dentistry. He served as a Captain in the Dental Corps of the U.S. Army in Germany during the Korean War. He practiced dentistry in Liberty for over forty years.

Dr. Brown was a member, elder and Sunday School teacher of Liberty Presbyterian Church. Also, he was a member of the Pickens County School Board and the Board of Directors of Fort Hill Natural Gas Co. For nine years, he was a volunteer for the Pickens County Meals on Wheels.

He is survived by his wife, Anne Kelley Brown; a daughter, Beverly Brown Brosnan and husband Denis of Clemson; a son, Kenneth A. Brown and wife Kim of Managua, Nicaragua; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Winona Gilstrap Brown.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Liberty Presbyterian Church, conducted by Rev. Julie Schaaf. Visitation will follow in the church social hall following the service. Private burial will be prior to the service in Westview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Foothills Presbyterian Home, 205 Bud Nalley Drive, Easley, SC 29642, or Pickens County Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 1162, Pickens, SC 29671.

Anne Bignon Dixon

AIKEN — Graveside services for Anne Bignon Dixon, 86, will be held 11 a.m. Saturday May 7, 2005, in Jacksonville Memory Gardens Cemetery, 111 Blanding Blvd., Orange Park, Florida, with Rev. Floyd Long officiating. Mrs. Dixon was predeceased by her loving husband, Roy A. Dixon, and son, Dale B. Dixon. She is survived by her daughter, Linda D. Caldwell; son, Jerry A. Dixon and his wife, Sue; brother, B.H. Bignon from Columbia, South Carolina; four grandchildren, Deborah A. Dixon, Becky A. Dixon, Michael C. Caldwell and his wife, Renee, and Kevin S. Caldwell and his wife, Cindy, and many other loving family members and friends. Family will receive friends on Friday May 6, 2005, from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. at Jacksonville Memory Gardens Funeral Home. Family requests memorials be made to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL 32257.

James Jackson

YEMASSEE — Services for James E. “Jimmy” Jackson, 75, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at John’s Chapel United Methodist Church with burial in Jackson Cemetery. Viewing is 1-8 p.m. today, with a wake service from 7-8 p.m., at Young Funeral Home. Mr. Jackson died Sunday, May 1, 2005, at his residence.

Harry Brown

SUMMERVILLE — A memorial service for Harry Brown, 94, formerly of the Pocotaligo Community, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Young Funeral Home in Yemassee. Mr. Brown died Tuesday, May 3, 2005, in the Summerville Medical Center in Charleston, S.C.

Henry Jackson Jr.

EAST ORANGE, N.J. — Services for Henry Jackson Jr., 44, formerly of Cummings, S.C., will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at Jerusalem Baptist Church, Cummings, with burial in Rock Spring Cemetery, Grays, S.C. Viewing is 3-7 p.m. today at Young Funeral Home, Yemassee, S.C. Mr. Jackson died Monday, May 2, 2005 in East Orange General Hospital, East Orange, N.J.

Mary E. Williams

HARTSVILLE — Graveside services for Mary Elizabeth Williams, 83, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 7, 2005, in Magnolia Cemetery. The Rev. Dr. Robert Cline will officiate and Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home is in charge. The family will receive friends following the service. Memorials may be made to the Charity of one’s choice.

Miss Williams died Thursday, May 5, 2005. Born in Florence County, S.C., she was a daughter of the late D.A. and Daisy Moak Williams. She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Pilot Club.

Surviving are her sister and brother-in-law, Margaret Ann and Charlie Dudley of Cross Hill, S.C.; brothers and sister-in-law, Richard C. “Dick” Williams of Hartsville, S.C., D. A. “Algy” and Ceil Williams of Hartsville, S.C.; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Martha Lankford, Gwen Tyner and Helen Walker.

Woodrow Berry

MULLINS — Mr. Woodrow Berry, 69, husband of Lydia A. Berry, died Wednesday, May 4, 2005, in Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia after an illness.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 7, at the chapel of Cox-Collins Funeral Home, with the Rev. Neil Hinson officiating. Burial will follow in Red Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery, directed by Cox-Collins Funeral Home.

Mr. Berry was born September 18, 1935, in Clinton, S.C., a son of the late Marshall and Minnie Holden Berry. Mr. Berry was a General Contractor. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was a lover of animals, especially his pets, Blackie, Missy and Lucky.

Surviving Mr. Berry are his wife of 47 years, Lydia A. Berry of the home; a brother, Paul Berry of Pelion, S.C.,; a sister, Sadel Bradley of Saluda, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Berry was predeceased by 3 brothers, H.R. Berry, Ernest Berry and John Berry and a sister, Mary Osband.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Visitation will be held Friday evening from 7 til 9 p.m. at Cox-Collins Funeral Home.

Daisy R. “Carlee” Kelly

COLUMBIA — Homegoing Service for Daisy R. “Carlee” Kelly, of Columbia, will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Siloam Baptist Church in Hopkins, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation is from 7-8 p.m. this evening at the funeral home.

Mrs. Kelly died May 1, 2005. Born in Horrell Hill, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Phillip Lakin and Josephine Goodwin Weston.

Surviving are her seven sons, Hercules Goodwin, Jr., Frank Goodwin, James, Stanley, Edward, Wilbert and Morgan Richardson; five daughters, Shirley Rowe, Johnnie Mae Goodwin, Sandra Patterson, Judy Keith and Jacqueline Richardson; thirty-two grandchildren; forty-eight great-grandchildren, all of whom will miss her dearly.

Byron Keith Cannon

IRMO — Mr. Byron Keith Cannon, 26, died Wednesday, May 4, 2005. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, May 9, at Marion Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Palmetto Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday, May 8, from 7-9 p.m. at Richardson Funeral Home in Marion.

Mr. Cannon was born in Raleigh, N.C., a son of Vallie Cannon and Annie (Teenie) Cockfield Cannon. He was a 1996 graduate of South Florence High School. Mr. Cannon earned an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from Florence Darlington Technical College in 1998. He later earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of South Carolina, Columbia, in 2002.

Prior to becoming a Deputy Sheriff in Richland County in October of 2003, Byron “Keith” Cannon worked for the South Carolina Department of Probation and Parole. Due to his charismatic nature, sincerity toward others and his professionalism, Keith, in September of 2004, was promoted to work on the Community Action Team in Northern Richland County.

Mr. Cannon was known, in the communities that he worked, for being a man of action and one who listened well to the needs of his neighborhoods. He was known for being hands-on, going so far as to clearing overgrown lots and illegal dumpsites with his own sweat and initiative. The senior citizens knew him as wanting to educate them on preventing crime and for always being accessible to them. He loved to work with children, volunteering to work with several Boy Scout Troops, and to work on bicycle safety programs all over Richland County.

Keith will be known forever in the hearts of the communities he served and his family at the Richland County Sheriff’s Department for being passionate about helping others and for having a big heart.

Surviving, other than his parents, are his brother, Kevin Cannon Marion; fiancee, Kyleigh Chandler of Irmo; nephews, Caleb Cannon and Jacob Cannon of Marion; and grandmother, Flora Cockfield of Marion.

Frances Robertson

WINNSBORO — Funeral services for Frances Parnell Robertson, 78, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 7, 2005, at the First United Methodist Church of Winnsboro, conducted by Reverend Bruce Palmer, Reverend Bundy Bynum and Reverend Rob Korn. Burial will follow in the Union Memorial Presbyterian Church Cemetery located on Reservoir Road, Winnsboro. Visitation will be Friday, May 6, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Pope Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Winnsboro First United Methodist Church, 109 W. College St., Winnsboro, SC 29180 or to a charity of one’s choice.

Mrs. Robertson, born August 3, 1926, in Fairfield County, was the daughter of the late Mary Robertson. She had worked in the administrative office of the Fairfield County Schools and was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church where she served on the Administrative Board and for 25 years served as the Worship-Chairperson. She was a member of the DAR, the UDC, the Woodbine Garden Club and the Curlee/McMaster/Douglas circle.

Mrs. Robertson is survived by her husband, Kitt Elliott Robertson, Sr. of the home; a stepson, Kitt E. Robertson, Jr. of Ridgeway; a stepdaughter, Frances Ilene Branham of Winnsboro and a stepgranddaughter, Milissa Hollis of Nashville, Tenn.

Pope Funeral Home is assisting the Robertson family.
