AIKEN — Funeral services for Mrs. Jean McClain Gunter will be held Thursday, May 26, 2005, at 2 p.m. at St. John’s United Methodist Church, Aiken, SC, with Pastor Sam Marcengill and Pastor M. Eugene Mullikin officiating. Mrs. Gunter will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Thursday.

Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens, Graniteville, SC. Pallbearers will be John Dupree, Lewis Heath, Bill Simpson, George Dupree, Rev. Jim Caprell, and Russell Mangum. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Cain, Daniel Magness, Austin Willing, Peter Knoller, Harold Dye, Ray Hydrick, Mac Ross, George Ray McClain, Gerald McClain, and Richard Boyd. The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 25, 2005, from 6 until 8 p.m. at George Funeral Homes, Historic Downtown Chapel, 211 Park Ave., SW, Aiken, SC.

Mrs. Gunter, 75, of Aiken, SC, died Sunday, evening, May 22, 2005, in St. Joseph Hospital, Hospice Unit, Augusta, GA.

Born in Jackson, SC, a daughter of the late Gary Talmadge and Lucille McKellar McClain, she had lived in Aiken County, SC, all of her life. Mrs. Gunter attended boarding school in Montreat, NC, and graduated from Ellenton High School. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and homemaker and was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church, Aiken, SC.

Sons, Dr. Richard Glenn Gunter, Rock Hill, SC, and Scott Douglas Gunter, Aiken, SC; sisters, Eudora McClain Dupree, Macon, GA, and Joyce McClain Jackson, Orlando, FL; grandchildren, John Houston Gunter, Olivia Leigh Gunter and Bradd William Sasser, and a great-grandchild, Caitlin Marie Sasser, survive her. Her husband, Mr. Richard G. Gunter preceded her in death December 17, 2004.

Felyn Kopack

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. — A Mass of Christian Burial for Felyn Kopack, 94, widow of Samuel Kopack, is Wednesday at Our Lady of Ostrabrama RC Church, burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Cutchogue, N.Y., visitation 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. today at Ruland Funeral Home. She died May 21, 2005. Surviving: children, Helen Cheshire, Samuel Jr., Joseph, Edward Kopack, Mary Ann Friend; 1 brother; 1 sister; others.

Opal Love

WILLISTON — Graveside Services for Opal Floy Willis Love, 92, will be held Eleven a.m. Thursday, May 26, 2005, at Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Orlando, Florida. Visitation 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Folk Funeral Home in Williston.

Memorials may be made to Edisto Baptist Church Building Fund, 12838 Main Street, Williston S.C. 29853.

Mrs. Love, wife of the late Elbert W. Love, died Monday. Born in Ty Ty, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late Charlie Willis and Dallie Jane Willis Hall Bowen. She was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. Mrs. Love and her husband owned and operated Love’s Grocery for many years in Orlando, Florida.

Survivors include daughter, Jane L. Dukes of Williston; son, Charles A. Love of Deland, Florida; twelve grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sons, C. Ray, Don A., Teddy and Bobby Love, a sister, Florrie W. Eason, brother, Rabon Willis.

Margaret Rodgers

COLUMBIA — Service for Margaret Boatwright Rodgers, 68, will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with visitation at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church Cemetery, Campground Road, Blythewood, immediately following the service.

Mrs. Rodgers died Sunday, May 22, 2005. Born in Silverstreet, she was a daughter of the late Pearley Van Lou Boatwright and Mary Sula Styron Boatwright. She was a member of Kathwood Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Thomas B. Rodgers; son and daughter-in-law, Harold Stevens Boney, Jr. and Ginger Boney of Bluffton; daughters and son-in-law, Harriette Boney Walter of Columbia, Beverly Boney Patterson and Eric Patterson of Raleigh, N.C., and Catherine Boney Caulder of Irmo; sister, Alice McInerny of Newberry; and grandchildren, Mitchell Ayers, Brooke Patterson Smith, Sarah Patterson, Charlotte Boney, Blake Patterson, Chad Patterson, Charner Boney and Addison Caulder.

Audrey Fitts Morell

SAVANNAH — Services for Audrey Fitts Morell, 38, will be held at 2 p.m. at St. Mark Baptist Church with burial in Sweet Bethel CME Church Cemetery. Cave Funeral Service, Allendale, S.C., is in charge. Born to Norman and Ora Lee Riley Fitts, she died May 20, 2005. Surviving are husband, Bishop Earl Morell Jr.; sons, Jaleel, Juriel Morell; siblings, Elizabeth Mitchell, Shirley Reed, Gary Fitts.

Clyde Earl Smith

SAVANNAH — Clyde Earl Smith, 83, died May 22, 2005, in Hospice Savannah, Inc. He was born in Ryan, Oklahoma, son of the late Hal and Karlee Nichols Smith. He served in the United States Army for 28 years during World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War, retiring as a Sergeant. He lived in Columbia, South Carolina, 48 years where he worked for the Department of Youth Services for the State of South Carolina, retiring after 20 years of service. Mr. Smith moved to Savannah in 2002 to be cared for by his daughter. He was a member of the VFW Post # 641 and a life member of Ft. Jackson Lodge #374 F&AM. His wife, Josephine Holtzinger Smith, preceded him in death.

Surviving are his daughters, Claudia K. Corley of Savannah; Elizabeth M. Booth of Blythewood, SC; Shirley A. Smith of Chapin, SC; son, Carl Smith of Marenisco, MI; eleven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren; a special niece, Gwen Brown of Nacona, TX, and several other nieces and nephews.

Memorial Service: 12:00 noon, Friday, May 27, 2005, at the Islands Chapel of Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors.

Francenia Weston

HOPKINS — Funeral service for Francenia Adams Weston of 1115 Old Bluff Road will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 25, 2005, at Zion Benevolent Baptist Church with the Reverend Gerald Tucker officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to service. Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 24, 2005, 3-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

J.P. Holley Funeral Home, Garners Ferry Road Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Weston, widow of Julian Weston, died Friday, May 20, 2005. Born in Hopkins, she was the daughter of John and Rebecca Dinkins Adams. She was a member of Zion Benevolent Baptist Church where she was a member of the Missionary Society and the Senior Jubilee Choir. She was also a member of Hopkins Senior Citizens.

She is survived by her sons, Samuel L. Weston, Michael J. Weston; daughters, Doris J. Noble, Frances D. Finch, Beverly A. Gibson, Cynthia P. Turnipseed, Juanita Sumter, Wilhelmenia Bostic; brothers, John C. Adams, Leroy S. Adams; sisters, Sallie Leach, Marie A. Crafton, Hattie Bookert, Minnie Williams; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren.

Ethel Lee Kelly Sox

WEST COLUMBIA — Services for Ethel Lee Kelly Sox, 85, of West Columbia, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 25, 2005, at Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church, officiated by Rev. Paul Aebischer and Rev. Virginia Aebischer. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia. Memorials may be made to Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Sox, widow of Wade John Sox, Jr., died Monday, May 23, 2005. Born in Columbia, she was a daughter of the late Harley and Lottie Mims Kelly. Mrs. Sox was a member of Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church where she enjoyed caring for the children in the nursery during Sunday School. She had retired from Phillips Electronics.

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Jerry Rogers of Blythewood; sisters, Eloise Grant and Betty Jeffcoat, both of West Columbia, three granddaughters, Dena Hood and her husband, Rick, Allison Hamilton and her husband, Larry, Melanie Lalumondier and her husband, Jim; five great-grandchildren, Ashley Barnhill, Hannah Barnhill, Kayley Hamilton, Dylan Hamilton and Jake Lalumondier.

Mrs. Sox was predeceased by an infant son, John Harley Sox; and four brothers, Albert Kelly, J.T. Kelly, Heyward Kelly and Collis Kelly.

Lawrence S. “Lawrie” Wolfe III

ORANGEBURG — Lawrence Stafford “Lawrie” Wolfe III, 55, of 1810 Windsor St., died Sunday morning, May 22, 2005, at his residence. Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday in Sunnyside Cemetery with Rev. Matthew Rucker officiating.

Mr. Wolfe was born in Orangeburg, a son of the late Lawrence Stafford Wolfe Jr. and Amanda Hutto Wolfe. He graduated from Wade Hampton Academy in 1968 and Baptist College in 1972. He was an insurance agent in Orangeburg County until his retirement.

Survivors: his wife, Donna Hamiter Wolfe, of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law, L. Stafford Wolfe IV (Christina) of Orangeburg, Blake Edward Wolfe of Ponchatula, La.; two stepdaughters, Heather Lee Taylor and Erin Beth Taylor, both of Gillisonville, SC; sister and brother-in-law, Mary Wolfe Robinson (Woody) of Greenwood, Ind.; two grandsons, Lawrence Stafford Wolfe V, Orangeburg, Zachery Austin Taylor, Gillisonville.

The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Dukes-Harley Funeral Home. At other times, friends may call at the residence and funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, Va. 23058-5216, or to a charity of one’s choice.

James Arledge

LUGOFF — Funeral services for James Curry “Buzzy” Arledge, 58, will be held on Wednesday, May 25, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. at Pine Grove Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Greg Allen will officiate. The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 23, 2005, from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at Kornegay Funeral Home Lugoff Elgin Chapel.

Memorials may be made to Pine Grove Baptist Church Building Fund, 836 Pine Grove Road, Lugoff, SC 29078.

Mr. Arledge died Sunday, May 22, 2005. Born in Rockingham, N.C., he was the son of the late William Eugene Sr. and Eunice Bullard Arledge. He had retired from the DuPont Company and was a member of Malvern Hill Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Campbell Arledge; daughter, Teresa A. Lee and her husband, Teddy of Elgin; son, James Kevin Arledge and his wife, Samantha, of Lincolnton, Ga.; sisters, Doris A. “Tootie” Parker, and her husband, James, of Waterloo, S.C., and Marie Arledge of Jackson, S.C.; brothers, John Leo “Buddy” Arledge and his wife, Sheila, of Camden, S.C., and William E. “Sonny” Arledge, Jr. and his wife, Ruth, of Camden, S.C.; grandchildren, Taylor B. and Amber R. Lee, Brittany N. Rabon and Bonnie E. Arledge; father-in-law, Willie C. Campbell.

Melissa Arnold

GRAY COURT — Services with burial for Lily Melissa Arnold, 93, will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Trinity United Methodist Church, with visitation following. Kennedy Mortuary, Laurens, is in charge. Born in Spartanburg Co. to Aaron and Lillie Maud McCravey Arnold, she died May 21, 2005. Surviving: daughter, Betty Hellams; siblings, Paul Arnold Sr., Peggy Woodall; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

Emily Claire Smith Kearse

OLAR — Emily Claire Smith Kearse, 84, of Barker St., Olar, SC 29843, widow of the late Henry H. Kearse, Jr., died May 22, 2005, in Bamberg County Nursing Center. She was born November 28, 1920, to the late Rev. Gobe Smith and the late Minette Graham Smith. She attended Bethel Methodist Church, Olar, SC, retired from First National Bank of S.C., and enjoyed church work, gardening, reading, politics and music.

A graveside service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2005, in Mizpah Church Cemetery, Olar, SC, with the Rev. Stiltz and Rev. Moorehead officiating.

Survivors: 1 daughter, Emily Claire Kearse of Augusta, GA; 4 granddaughters, Rosalyn Dyches and Connie Holley, both of Barnwell, SC, Dr. Susan Conner of Orangeburg, SC, Graham K. Warden of Norcross, GA, 5 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Henry H. Kearse Jr., 2 sons, H.H. Buzzie Kearse III and Thomas Graham Kearse; 2 sisters, Francis M. Smith and Betty Asserson; 1 brother, Gobe Smith Jr.

Pallbearers will be her nephews.

Visitation was held Monday, May 23, 2005 at Cooner Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Bethel Methodist Church, Olar, SC.

Burnette Caughman

DENVER, Colo. — Viewing and visitation for Burnette Caughman, 71, noon-1 p.m. today at Providence AME Church, Little Mountain, S.C., burial: church Cemetery, Wilson Funeral Home, Newberry, S.C., in charge. Born in Lexington Co., S.C., to Eddie Sr. and Juliet Caughman, she died May 16, 2005. Surviving: children, Charles, Willie, Michael, Alfreda, Rella, Libby, Christal; 7 siblings; 10 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren.
