Patrick Lewis Watson

KERSHAW Mr. Patrick Lewis Watson, 26, formerly of Lagrange, Ga., died Friday, July 29, 2005, in Effingham County, Ga., outside of Savannah. Patrick was a resident of Statesboro, Ga. He was the son of John Edward Watson, Jr. and Resa Clyburn Watson. He attended First United Methodist Church and was an employee of Coca-Cola of Savannah, Ga.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 2, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. from Cauthen Funeral Home, Kershaw, Chapel, by the Rev. Robin Hewitt and the Rev. Phillip Bostrom and Rev. Bryant D. Fersner. Interment will be in the Kershaw City Cemetery.

Survivors include his parents of LaGrange, Ga.; a brother, Chad B. Watson of Atlanta, Ga.; paternal grandparents, J.E. and Iva Lee Watson of Kershaw and maternal grandmother, Kathleen G. "Tam" Clyburn.

Mr. Watson was also the grandson of the late Ernest Haile "Weenie" Clyburn.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. Monday, August 1, 2005, at the Cauthen Funeral Home, Kershaw Chapel, and other times at the home of his grandmother, Kathleen "Tam" Clyburn, 316 Stevens Dr., Kershaw, SC, and at the home of J.E. and Iva Lee Watson, 205 Park Dr., Kershaw.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 305 W. Church St., Kershaw, SC 29067 or to the charity of one's choice.

Deborah Ann Granger Wright

COLUMBIA Services for Deborah Ann Granger Wright will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday (viewing at 12 noon) in the Trinity Baptist Church with burial in the Lincoln Cemetery. Visitation services will be held this evening beginning at 6 p.m. in the Leevy's Funeral Home, Taylor 8treet Chapel.

Surviving are her husband, Mollie Wright, Jr.; daughters, Kizzy W. Dunlap, Geneva Isaac, Laurielle Wright; son, Mollie Wright; stepdaughter, Melissa Wright; mother, Arline Granger; sisters, Robin Granger and Lisa Rivera; brothers, Leroy, Jr., Ronald, Mark Granger; stepbrother, Ducane Granger; seven grandchildren.

Catherine Bell Nesbitt

SUMTER — Services for Catherine Bell Nesbitt, 70, are 2 p.m. Saturday at New Testament Lighthouse Church, burial in Wells Cemetery. Visitation is 6-8 tonight at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home; other times at 1600 Florence Hwy., Sumter. Born in Elliott to Robbie and Annie Mae Hill Bell, she died Aug. 18, 2005. Surviving: husband, Russell Nesbitt; sisters, Agnes Bell, Mary Lee Nesbitt; nieces, nephews.

CAMDEN — Funeral services for Edwin Lewis “Ed” Dabney, Sr., 83, will be held Tuesday, August 30, 2005, at 11 a.m. at Wateree Baptist Church, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Rev Everett Reconnu, Rev. Richard Cameron, and Rev. Wayne Dabney will officiate. Grandsons will serve as active pallbearers and members of the Barnes Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Monday, August 29, 2005, from 6-7:30 p.m. at Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel. Memorials may be made to Wateree Baptist Church Building Fund, 2024 Haile Street, Camden, SC 29020.

Mr. Dabney died Saturday, August 27, 2005. Born in Kershaw, he was the son of the late Rev. John T. Dabney and Eva Mae Ogburn Dabney. Mr Dabney had retired from the DuPont Company and was also a watchmaker. He was a member of Wateree Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School teacher and former Deacon. Mr. Dabney was a U.S. Army World War II veteran and the recipient of the Purple Heart.

Surviving are his wife, Sybil Sheffield Dabney; son, Edwin “Eddie” Dabney, Jr. of Camden; daughters, Mrs. Cheryl (Roddy) Truesdale of Cassatt, Mrs. Deborah (Brad) Teague of St. Augustine, Fl., Mrs. Deanna (Bill) Fulmer of Batesburg-Leesville; grandchildren, Nathan and Christopher Dabney, Thiel Geddings, Greg, Robbie, Joshua, and Caroline Truesdale, Scott and Madelyn Teague, Veronica Fulmer; great-grandson, Matthew Truesdale; sisters, Clarice Taylor, Libby Gurley, Julie Joye, and Gwen Mincey; brothers, Ralph, Phillip, Larry, Keith, Charlie, and Wayne Dabney. He was predeceased by brothers, J.T. Gene, Judson Dabney and daughter-in-law, Mary C. Dabney.

Florence May Schroeder

RANDALLSTOWN, Md. — Florence May Schroeder, of Randallstown, MD, died Tuesday morning, Sept. 6, in Northwest Hospital Hospice, Randallstown. Ninety-nine years of age at her death, she was the widow of the Rev. Hugo W. Schroeder, Sr., pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Rockdale, 1941-1968. She had been widowed since 1984.

Mrs. Schroeder was the daughter of the late Charles E. and Mary Catherine Foose Smith of York, PA. She was the last survivor of their family.

Services will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 7902 Liberty Road, Rockdale, under the direction of the Rev. Robert L. Day, Jr., Pastor of St. James Lutheran Church, Randallstown, and the Rev. Duke Fries, Pastor of Christ Lutheran Church, Baltimore, with interment in Mt. Rose Cemetery, York, PA.

Mrs. Schroeder is mourned by five children: the Rev. Carl E. Schroeder of Mt. Joy, PA, Clara C. “Beebe” (Mrs. Charles A.) James of Columbia, SC, the Rev. Hugo W. Schroeder, Jr., of Liverpool, PA, Karla A. (Mrs. John) Geldmacher of Riesterstown, and Dr. Martin L. Schroeder of Biglerville, PA. She is survived by 14 grandchildren (including Christine E. James of Bone, NC, Charles A. “Chip” James, Jr. and Mark M. James of Columbia, SC, and Dr. Hugh T. James of Spartanburg, SC) and 19 great-grandchildren.

The family requests memorial contributions to Gettysburg College, Gettysburg, PA, or Trinity Housing Corp., 1100 Sumter St., Columbia, SC 29201.

James Glenn

NINETY SIX — James Randall “Jimmy” Glenn, 64, of 292 Country Pond Road, died Thursday, September 8, 2005, at his residence.

Born in Hodges, a son of the late James Mack and Virginia Rosalee Davenport Glenn, he was the husband of Linda Adams Bledsoe. He was a graduate of Greenwood High School and served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Fourstar and had retired from Monsanto. Mr. Glenn was a member of Callie Self Memorial Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Linda Adams Bledsoe of the home, a daughter, Tonya G. Knight of Greenwood, two stepsons, Stacy H. Burnett of Saluda and Chris W. Burnett of Clinton, a granddaughter, Katrina C. Knight of Greenwood, three stepgrandchildren, Stacy Hunter Burnett and Virginia Lee Burnett both of Manassas, VA and Ryan H. Burnett of Saluda, two sisters, Mrs. Bob (Ann) Franks of Greenwood and Mrs. Charlie L. (Ginger) Williams of Troy.

The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m. Saturday in the Social Hall at Good Hope Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Saturday, September 10, 2005, at Good Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Justice and Rev. Carles Fincannon officiating. Interment will follow in Mayson Memorial Cemetery.

Reinhard Jagla

CHAPIN — Reinhard Jagla, 67, died Thursday, September 8, 2005, at his residence. Born in Solingen, Germany, he was a son of the late Karl and Helena Bergman Jagla.

Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Barbara Clark Jagla; daughters and sons-in-law, Bridget and John Gonzales of Irmo, and Cheryl and Mickey Porter of Ballentine; and grandchildren, Christopher Barrett and his wife Carolyn of West Columbia, Hunter, Chaise, Andrea and Garrett Porter, all of Ballentine; and great-grandson, David Barrett of West Columbia; brother, Klaus Jagla of Florida; sister, Christel Brits of Zimbabwe, Africa.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation of Columbia.

Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo, is assisting the family.

Hank Wiesen

HARTSVILLE — Funeral services for Henry Hattman “Hank” Wiesen, 85, will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, September 11, 2005, at First Baptist Church. The Revs. Tom Rutan and Monell Smith will officiate and Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home is in charge. The family will receive friends Sunday following the service in the church parlor. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 104 East Home Ave., Hartsville SC 29550.

Dr. Wiesen died Friday, September 9, 2005. Born in Palmyra, NJ, he was a son of the late George and Mary Hattman Wiesen. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. He graduated from Indiana University (PA) and received his master’s degree from the University of South Carolina, doctoral degree from the University of Maryland, and Th.D from Crozer Theological Seminary. He was an educator in the Darlington County Schools and the Montgomery County (MD) schools. He was involved with the S.C. Educational Association, was a former professor with Defiance College (OH), and was a former pastor at Cedar Creek Baptist Church and Liberty Hill Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Anne Tarte Wiesen of Hartsville, SC; daughters and sons-in-law, Marilee and Kenneth Willis, Sr. of Sandy Run, SC, Nita and Joseph Williams of Orlando, FL; sisters, Fran Parsons and Anne Brown; grandchildren and spouses, Kenneth and Sheila Willis, Jr., Bonnie Willis, William and Michelle Willis; great-grandchildren, Katelyn Willis, Lauren Willis, Tyler Willis, Corbin Willis. He was preceded in death by his brother, George Wiesen.

Jeffery McLean Bowcut

HARTSVILLE — Graveside services for Jeffery McLean Bowcut, infant son of Jeffery Judd Bowcut and Kristen Marie Smith, will be Monday at 2 p.m. in Tabernacle Cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home. Surviving are parents; grandparents, Deborah and Richard Smith and Tammy and Dennis Haire; great-grandparents, Betty Smith and Myrna Estep.

Dr. James D. Hammond Jr.

FLORENCE — Funeral service for Dr. James D. Hammond, Jr. will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 20, 2005, at Savannah Grove Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. He died Thursday, September 15th, in a local hospital after an illness.

Dr. Hammond was born in Ridge Spring, South Carolina, the only child of the late James D. and Vera Naggles-Hammond, Sr. He attended the public schools of Florence County and graduated from Wilson High School. He attended Hampton University the summer of 1953 and went on to North Carolina A&T, graduating Cum Laude in 1957 to receive his B.S. and was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity.

He earned his Master’s from Columbia University and went to medical school at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, TN. He interned and performed his residency at Bernalillo County Hospital in Albuquerque, NM. Upon returning to Nashville, he joined the Matthew Walker Health Center while simultaneously serving as a Residency Training Instructor at Meharry.

In addition to serving his patients, Dr. Hammond served his country, as well. He was a member of the medical unit in the U.S. Army from 1966-1968 where he toured Vietnam before returning stateside and taking a post at Fort McFerson in Georgia.

Dr. Hammond worked as a Clinic Physician at the Hospital Center, South Orange, NJ; later he assumed the role of Chief of Internal Medicine at Central Essex Health Plan. He moved to South Carolina in 1979 and began his own private practice while simultaneously serving on staff at all three local hospitals - Florence General Hospital, McLeod Regional Medical Center and Bruce Hospital. He was appointed Chief of Staff at Florence General from 1990-1991 and served as Chairman of the Department of Medicine at McLeod in 1992 and 1993.

During his career, he served as ringside physician for local boxing at the Boy’s Club, sideline physician for the Wilson High School football team, Medical Director of Faith Nursing Home and Medical Director of Carver Community Health Center. He was also a member of several professional associations and organizations, including the Florence County Medical Society, the South Carolina Medical Society, the American Medical Association, the Southern Medical Association, the National Medical Association, the Association of Black Cardiologists, the Urban League and the Florence Chamber of Commerce.

Survivors are his wife, Donzaleigh Floyd-Hammond; three children, Andrea (Paul) Hammond-Mason, Julie (Franklin, Sr.) Hammond-Daniels and James D. Hammond, III; four grandchildren, Ryan Andrew Mason, Lunn Franklin Daniels, Jr., Spenser Ashleigh Mason and Elizabeth Irene Daniels; uncle, Alphonso Hammond; and a town and good friends who will always love him and cherish what he did for them.

The family is receiving friends at 1608 N. Irby Street. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association. Memorial and Condolence messages may be mailed to Ideal Funeral Parlor, 106 E. Darlington Street, Florence, SC 29506

Debra Gibson

OLAR — Debra Elizabeth McKenzie Gibson, 27, wife of Joseph Gibson, of 12839 Carolina Hwy., died Sunday, September 18, 2005.

Mrs. Gibson was born January 19, 1978, in Laurens to Darrell Gene Covan and Mildred McKenzie Covan.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are three daughters, Megan, Brook and Monica Gibson; her parents, Darrell and Mildred Covan; four brothers, Stacey and Jaulie McKenzie, Leon and Phillip Tarrant; and one sister, Tonya Funderburke.

Visitation will be 6-8 Tuesday at Fletcher Funeral Service.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel at Fletcher Funeral Service, followed by entombment in Cannon Memorial Mausoleum.

Odell Timmerman

RIDGE SPRING — Odell Jones Timmerman, 86, died Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2005. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, at Milton Shealy Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Ridge Spring Cemetery with Rev. John Kneece officiating. Pallbearers will be Alfred, David and Ralph McCamish, Kristian and Bryan Hiers and Derek Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be Borell and Irvin Boatwright, Robert Steadman and Andrew Rutland.

Mrs. Timmerman was born in Dyer, KY, to the late Florence and Ira Preston McCamish. She was a member of Ridge Spring Baptist Church, W.M.U., Wish Garden Club and the American Legion Auxiliary. Her first husband was the late John Omar Jones and she was a homemaker.

Surviving are her husband, Bruce E. Timmerman of Batesburg; son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Mack Jones of Greenwood and wife, Linda; daughter and son-in-law, Diane Hiers of Greensboro, NC, and husband, Dick; sister, Lena Mae Butler of Irvington, KY; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Friday prior to the service at the funeral home. Milton Shealy Funeral Home 803-532-6100 is in charge of all arrangements.
