CORDOVA — Mrs. Zimmie Marie “Pinky” Bolen Kirby died Wednesday. Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Cannon Bridge Road Church of God in Cordova with burial in Crestlawn Memorial Gardens in Orangeburg. Visitation will be held 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Friday at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc., in Orangeburg.

Henry Lee Scott
COLUMBIA — Services for Mr. Henry Lee Scott, 62, of 4612 Bluff Road, will be held Saturday, June 10, 2006, at noon at Bible Way Church of Atlas Road, Columbia. Interment to follow in Brown Chapel AME Church Cemetery. A.A. Dicks Funeral Home-Sullivan Chapel is in charge of these arrangements.

Mr. Scott died Tuesday, June 6, 2006.

He was the son of Samuel Switzer and Geneva Scott Ervin, both of Columbia.

He was the owner of Scott’s Elegance Plus, Custom Rod Iron work, for over 25 years.

He is survived by his parents; his wife, Patricia Allen Scott of Columbia; two sons, Henry F. Scott and James Patrick Allen, both of Columbia; one daughter, Shandon S. Edwards of Columbia; four brothers, Andre Switzer, James Scott, Willie (Barbara) Ervin and Artie (Linda) Scott, all of Columbia; seven sisters, Ruth Ann (Johnnie) Emerson of Winnsboro, Elizabeth (Thomas) Covington, Gloria Jean (Percy) Smith, Jo Cynthia (William) Couthry, Virgin Howard, Willean (Robert) Johnson and Andrena Cook, all of Columbia; one granddaughter, Alexis M. Edwards of Columbia; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Lee Vernon Smith
WEST COLUMBIA — Funeral service for Lee Vernon Smith, 68, will be held 2 o’clock Sunday, June 11, 2006, at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel. The Reverend Dennis Banks will be officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6 until 8 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 1131, Fairfax, VA 22038.

Mr. Smith was born July 27, 1938, in Praeco, Alabama. He was the son of the late Luther R. and Flora Turne Smith. Mr. Smith owned and operated Quality Roofing and Painting Company.

Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Carolyn Hensley Smith; son, Richard Smith; daughter, Stephanie Westfall of Columbia, SC; grandchildren, Toby and Kevin Smith, David Westfall; stepgrandson, Brian M. Hensley; stepgranddaughter, Megan Louise Hensley; stepchildren, Leon Michael Hensley and Wesley Boyd Hensley; sisters, Juanita and Charles Hendrix of Alabama, Thelma Count of Alabama, Frances Smith of Florida and brother, Jim Smith of Michigan. Those who preceded him in death were a brother, Kenneth Smith, and his wife, Frances.

Thomas Earl Rosemond
COLUMBIA — Mr. Thomas Earl Rosemond, of 1603 Fork Avenue, Columbia, entered into eternal rest Tuesday morning, May 30, 2006, in Seacoast Medical Center, Myrtle Beach. He was a member of Wesley Chapel Methodist Church and attended Columbia Church of Christ. He was a graduate of Furman University in Greenville. He was the son of the late Mr. Caldwell Rosemond and the late Mrs. Charles Rosemond. Mr. Rosemond was the husband of Mrs. Bobby Rosemond.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three daughters, Ms. Nashea Rosemond of the home, Ms. Benita Marie Meredith of Columbia, Ms. Glenda Rosemond of Greer; two sons, Mr. Thomas Earl Rosemond, II of the home and Mr. Bobby Lewis Meredith of Greer; eight sisters, two brothers, and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 6, 2006, at 4 p.m. at Wesley Chapel Methodist Church, Greer. The Reverend W.J. Teasley officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Alva Morehouse
SUMTER — Services for Alva Keith Morehouse, 72, are 2 p.m. Sunday (visitation 5-7 p.m. Saturday) at Bullock F.H., burial with military honors in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Born in Whitehouse, Ohio, to Irven and Marguerite Morehouse, he died June 8, 2006. Surviving: wife, Miriam Morehouse; sons, Brian, Steve Morehouse; siblings, Cecil Morehouse, Lotus Fritz, Martha Conner, Judith Shoemaker.

Mary Elizabeth Webb Kitts
COLUMBIA — Graveside service for Mary Elizabeth Webb Kitts, 87, formerly of North Charleston, S.C., will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in Carolina Memorial Gardens, Charleston, S.C. Memorials may be made to Pittman Street Baptist Church, North Charleston. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is in charge.

Mrs. Kitts, wife of the late Joe C. Kitts, died Wednesday, June 7, 2006. Born in Martin County, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Annie Woolard and Sylvester Webb. She was formerly an Avon representative and was also employed with Shipley’s Drug Store as a Western Union operator.

Surviving are her sons and daughers-in-law, Charles W. and Laura Kitts of Lynchburg, Va., and Kenneth R. and Patricia Kitts of Columbia; grandchildren, Karen Kitts (Roger) German of Myrtle Beach, Karla Kitts (Bill) Gragg of Christiansburg, Va., Keith Harold Kitts of Columbia, Charles Walter Kitts, Jr., Kathleen Elizabeth Kitts and Kristine Diane Kitts, all of Lynchburg, Va.; great-grandson, Dawson Neal Kitts of Christiansburg, Va.; and brother, Walter Webb of San Francisco, Calif.; and sister, Irene Webb Whynne of Williamston, N.C. She was predeceased by a grandson, Kenneth Brian Kitts, brother, Charles Webb, and sister, Daisey Webb Russell.

Virginia J. Williams
PELION — Mrs. Virginia Jeffcoat Williams, 87, entered into rest Wednesday, June 7, 2006.

Mrs. Williams was born in Lexington County, a daughter of the late Price and Alice Williamson Jeffcoat. She was predeceased by her husband, Seibern Williams, and brother, Percy Jeffcoat. She was a member of King Grove Baptist Church.

Mrs. Williams is survived by her children, Earl Williams and Wilton and Rhonda Williams, grandchildren, Mike and Cecilia Williams, Jeff and Becky Williams, David Williams and Crystal McGraw, great-grandchild, Maranda Williams, and sisters, Margie Rawls, Lois Williams and Edner Hutto.

Visitation will be Friday, June 9th, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Wagener Chapel of Blizzard Funeral Home, 163 Main St. South, Wagener, S.C. (803) 564-5333. The funeral service will be Saturday, June 10th, at 11 a.m. at King Grove Baptist Church with the Reverend Ellis O. “Cook” Addy officiating. Mrs. Williams will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service for viewing. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to King Grove Baptist Church, 1580 Hwy. 178, Swansea, SC 29160.

Leon Aron Moody
DILLON — Leon Aron Moody, 75, died Wednesday, June 7, 2006, in McLeod Medical Center-Dillon after an illness.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 10th, at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday, June 9th, at the funeral home.

Born December 2, 1930, in Dillon County, he was the son of the late Aaron J. Moody and Mattie Lee Butler Moody. He was a member of Bermuda Baptist Church. A U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict, he attended U.S.C., and was an avid Gamecock fan. He worked assorted management positions and was a former member of the Dillon County Council.

Survivors include his sons, Chris (Sharon) Moody, Glenn (Debra) Moody, and Danny (Robin) Moody, all of Dillon; daughter, Melissa (Greg) Rouse of Myrtle Beach; sister, Lorene (Paul) Hayes of Dillon; brother, Elrid (Kay) Moody of Dillon; 10 grandsons; and caring friend, Earline Moody.

Mr. Moody was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Martha Moody, and a brother, Carson Moody.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Elizabeth Adams Marsh
COLUMBIA — Memorial service for Elizabeth Ann Adams Marsh, 77, will be held 4 o’clock Friday, June 9, 2006, at The First Presbyterian Church, Smith Chapel, with the Reverend L. Craig Wilkes officiating. Interment will follow in Florence National Cemetery at a later date. The family will greet friends following the service. Memorials may be made to Laurel Crest Endowment Fund, 100 Joseph Walker Drive, West Columbia, SC 29619.

Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Adams Marsh, widow of Ernest L. Marsh, died Wednesday, June 7, 2006. She was born January 3, 1929, in Marlboro County, SC, to the late Claud Jeptha and Eva Belle Ledbetter Adams. Mrs. Marsh graduated from Gibson High School, Gibson, NC, and attended Flora McDonald College in North Carolina. She had retired from the R.L. Bryan Company.

Survivors include a sister, Molly Ledbetter Adams McColman of Columbia and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest L. Marsh, brothers and sisters, Elaine Adams Taylor, Mary Adams Brown, Claud Jeptha Adams, Jr. and Richard Marion Adams.

Norman Lee Bryan
AIKEN — Services for Norman Lee Bryan, 65, are 11 a.m. Saturday (visitation 6-8 tonight) at Aiken Church of Christ, burial at 11 a.m. Monday in Swiss Cemetery, Hohenwald, Tenn. Shellhouse-Rivers F.H. is in charge. Born in Bloomington, Ill., to Vernon and Doris Givens Bryan, he died June 7, 2006. Surviving: wife, Gayle Lester Bryan; children, Sandra Summerall, Todd, Shawn Bryan; 5 grandchildren; 4 brothers.

Mary L. Rembert
WEDGEFIELD — Services for Mary L. Rembert, 58, Library of Congress retiree, 2 p.m. (1 p.m. viewing) Saturday: Canty Memorial C.O.G.I.C., Sumter. Burial: Harvin Cemetery. Visitation 3-7 tonight at Job’s Mortuary, Sumter. Born in Sumter Co. to Mary Rembert, she died June 6, 2006. Surviving: mother; sisters, Betty Grayson, Renee’ Harvin, Allison Clark; four uncles; two aunts; nieces, nephews; other relatives.

Beatrice Patterson
EASTOVER — Funeral service for Beatrice Williams Patterson, of 15027 Garners Ferry Road, formerly of 106 William Patterson Road, will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Midway Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held 3-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Ms. Patterson, widow of Williams Patterson, died Monday. Born in Piedmont, she was the daughter of the late Ollis and Mary Turner Williams. She was a member of Midway Baptist Church and the Order of Eastern Star and was a retired educator.

She is survived by her son, Wade Stephney; daughters, Barbara (Gregory) Burden, Latonia (George) Williams, Mary Wider; 16 grandchildren.

J.P. Holley Funeral Home, Garners Ferry Road Chapel, has been entrusted with these arrangements.

Edith Syracuse
GREENVILLE — Edith “Pistol” Brothers Syracuse, 81, of 1950 Roe Ford Road, Greenville, SC, widow of M.G. Syracuse, Sr., died Monday, May 29, 2006, in Hilton Head Regional Medical Center.

Born in Greenville, she was the daughter of the late Ira A. and Emma McCarson Brothers.

Mrs. Syracuse was a 1942 graduate of Greenville High School and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She was a member of Mountain Laurel Garden Club of Travelers Rest and enjoyed gatherings with her Greenville High 1942 classmates.

“Pistol” was a devoted wife and mother. Her feisty spirit will be missed by her family and many friends.

Surviving are two daughters, Myra S. Davis of Bluffton, SC, Sheila K. Syracuse of Redondo Beach, CA; two sons, M. George Syracuse, Jr. and Mark C. Syracuse of Hendersonville, NC; and six grandchildren, Ashley Elizabeth Davis, William Bradley Davis, Myer G. Syracuse, III, Mark Syracuse, Jordan Syracuse and Megan Barber.

Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 421 N. Main Street, Greenville, SC 29601.

Visitation was held Wednesday, May 31, 2006, from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, June 1, 2006, at 1:30 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Reverend Susan Crowell officiating. Burial followed in Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Barbara Radical
COLUMBIA — A Homegoing Service for Barbara Radical will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Progressive Church, Barhamville Road, where she was an active member, with burial in Serenity Memorial Gardens. Born in Barnwell to Charlie and Rivana Cole Radical, she died June 2, 2006. Surviving are her daughters, Mary Edmonds, Sarah Johnson, brother, Marion Radical, and four grandchildren.

Cornelia Whiting Lowery
COLUMBIA — A memorial service will be held at Eastminster Presbyterian Church Monday, June 19, at 11 a.m. with a reception to follow in the parlor.

Mrs. Lowery, wife of the late William S. Lowery of Camden, SC, died Thursday, June 8, 2006, in Baptist Hospital Hospice. Born January 24, 1930, in Troy, NY, she was the daughter of William and Emily Whiting. She attended Eastminster Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Frank Harden Class and the choir. She graduated from Richmond Professional Institute in fashion design and received her master’s degree in Business from Wake Forest.

She was a principal in Whiting Products and The Edge, Inc. in Camden, SC. In Columbia, she pioneered the Junior Achievement Prison program as well as being a SCORE counselor. She was a member of the Great Books Club at the library and was a faithful member of the Senior Citizen Aerobic Swimming class at the YMCA.

Surviving are her sisters, Eleanor Moylan Lott, Mary Rice Somerville, AnnaBelle Whiting, and her brother, Evans Kellog Whiting. Also surviving are her children and their families, Michael and Irina Lowery-Oleysa and Nika Lowery of Colorado Springs, CO, Jeff and Gay Amberg, Anna and Billy Amberg of Columbia, SC, Steve and Pauletta Lowery-Marietta, Christian, Natasha and Will Lowery of Alameda, CA, Robert and Cynthia Lowery-Jordan, Caroline and Robert, Jr. Lowery of Charleston, SC, and Patrick Lowery of San Antonio, TX. A graveside service for family members will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the Kershaw County Fine Arts Center, 810 Lyttleton St., Camden, SC 29020.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Rambo and his staff and the medical personnel of Baptist Hospital for their fine and compassionate work.

She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Ulysses Glover
ALLENDALE — Services for Ulysses Glover, 80, will be held at noon Saturday at Beautiful Gate Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Cave Funeral Service is in charge. Born in Allendale County to Mitchell Sr. and Estelle Hammonds Glover, he died June 4, 2006. Surviving: brothers, Mitchell Jr., Rogers, Julius Glover; sisters, Dorothy Drayton, Pauline Rivers, Bernie Benson; one stepbrother; two stepsisters.

Jonathan Burrell Jr.
WINNSBORO — Homegoing Service for Jonathan Burrell, Jr. of Winnsboro, will be held 3 p.m. Saturday at Zion Pilgrim Baptist Church, Richtex, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

Bostick-Tompkins Funeral Home, 2930 Colonial Drive, Columbia, is in charge.

Mr. Burrell died Saturday, June 3, 2006. Born in Fairfield County, he was the son of Emma James Burrell and the late Jonathan Burrell Sr. He had retired as an employee of Baptist Medical Center and was a member of Zion Pilgrim Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Verta B. Burrell; sons, Michael and Marvin Burrell; daughters, Brenda Lawson, Carolyn Cook and Vera Durham; mother, Emma J. Burrell; brothers, Edward, Leroy and Samuel Burrell; sisters, Mary Williams, Elizabeth Bright and Marie Pearson; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
