Thomas Wallace Goodson

DARLINGTON - Thomas “Tom” Wallace Goodson, age 84, died Friday, April 2, 2004 at McLeod Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday in the First Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Ken Sandifer, Dr. Olin Whitener and Rev. Renny Johnson. Interment will follow in Grove Hill Cemetery directed by Belk Funeral Home.

Mr. Goodson was born in Darlington County, son of the late Thomas Pierce and Mamie Abbott Goodson. He was married for 66 years to the late Lillian Irene Blackmon. Mr. Goodson served his country with the United States Navy and had retired from Sonoco Paper Products. He was
a member of the Darlington Kiwanis Club. Mr. Goodson enjoyed the outdoors and visiting shut-ins. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Hardin Sunday School Class and servedas a deacon of his church.

Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Pollie and William H. Bristow Jr. of Darlington; three granddaughters, Susan (Damon) Flowers of Darlington, Elizabeth (Lee) Richards of Columbia and Katherine (Lofton) Fanning, also of Columbia;seven great-grandchildren, Damon Flowers, Jr.
Mary Palmer Richards, Susanna Stuart Flowers, Carolyn Gardiner Richards, William Bristow Richards, Charles Thomas Richards and Elizabeth Dryden Richards; two sisters, Margaret Greenwood of Virginia and Edith Miller of Hartsville and his brother, Robert “Bob” Goodson of Darlington.

Mr. Goodson was preceded in death by brothers, Claud C. Goodson, James A. Goodson, and Julius H. Goodson.

Eula Stephens Lee

10/07/1912 - 4/13/2004

TIMMONSVILLE- Eula Stephens Lee, age 91, died Tuesday afternoon in a Florence Hospital. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 15 in Salem United Methodist Church, with interment following in the church Cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home.

Mrs. Lee was born in Darlington County, daughter of the late Arthur and Modina Amerson Stephens. Mrs. Lee was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, where she was one of the oldest members.

Surviving are a sister, Iretta Bell of Lamar, and many nieces and nephews.

Otis Odell Keith

05/16/1939 - 4/13/2004

SOCIETY HILL- Otis Odell Keith, age 64, died Tuesday afternoon in a Florence Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 Friday in Edwards Chapel Baptist Church, with interment following in the church Cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home.

Mr. Keith was born in Chesterfield County, son of the late John and Sudie Waters Keith. Mr. Keith was a cashier at Johnnie’s Truck Stop, worked for Klopman Manufacturing, and drove tour group buses. He was a member of Edwards Chapel Baptist church where he was chairman of the Board of Deacons.

Surviving are his wife, Erleen S. Keith of the home; two sons, Lyndell Keith of Miami, Fla., Ricky Keith of Hartsville; a daughter Kim Keith of Society Hill, six grandchildren; Jennifer, Brad, Billy, Lindsay, Aaron, and Julia Keith; three great-grandchildren, three brothers John D. Keith, Harvey Keith both of Cheraw, and Howard Keith of Spartanburg; a sister Salley K. Baker of Society Hill.

Mr. Keith was preceded in death by a son Billy Keith.

Kathryn "Kat" Folsom Crosby

02/26/1916 - 4/17/2004

DARLINGTON - Kathryn “Kat” Folsom Crosby, age 88, died Saturday, April 17, 2004. Graveside funeral services will be Monday, 2:00 p.m. in Grove Hill Cemetery directed by Belk Funeral Home.

Mrs. Crosby was born in Darlington County, daughter of the late Stephen Wallace and Estelle Strange Folsom. She was married to the late Stephen Weldon Crosby. She was a retired bookkeeper with Coleman-Aimar Hospital. Mrs. Crosby was a member of First Baptist Church where
she served as Superintendent of the Junior Department for 20 years. She taught the G. A. ‘s for 15 years and Vacation Bible School for numerous years. She was also a member of the Kay Hobbs circle and served on the council of Young at Heart.

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Linda Crosby of Darlington and daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Loyde Roberts of Charlotte, NC; also, her grandchildren: Beth Odom, Michael Crosby, Brian Glock and Will Roberts and five great-grandchildren, five nieces and one nephew.

Charles M. Nichols

10/26/1947 - 4/18/2004

DARLINGTON ,SC - Charles Morris Nichols, Sr., age 56, died Sunday, April 18, 2004 in a Florence hospital. Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Tuesday at Victory Baptist Church directed by Belk Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Grove Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Nichols was born in Mooresville, NC, the son of the late Challie Isaac and Pearl Duncan Nichols. He had been employed by Nucor Steel for 17 years. Mr. Nichols was a loving father and attended Victory Baptist Church.

Surviving are his son, Jeff (Brandi) Nichols of Darlington and his daughter, Marlene (Charles) Larrimore of Rockingham, NC; three grandchildren, Tammy Nicole Nichols, Jeffrey Nichols, Jr.
and Gracelyn Nichols; four brothers, Royce, Thomas, Larry and Bobby Nichols of Mooresville, NC and two sisters, Irene Hamby and Cathy Helms also of Mooresville.

Mr. Nichols was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Irene Nichols; a son, Charles Nichols, Jr. and daughter, Tammy Lynn Nichols.

Mary Alice Rogers

02/08/1917 - 4/29/2004

DARLINGTON - Mary Alice Rogers, of 254 West Broad Street, died Thursday, April 29, 2004, at Methodist Manor. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Trinity United Methodist Church with interment following in Grove Hill Cemetery directed by Belk Funeral Home.

Miss Rogers was born in Darlington on February 8, 1917, daughter of the late Arthur and Inez Jeffords Rogers. She was a graduate of St. John’s High School, being Valedictorian of her class.
She was also a member of the orchestra, the Poetry Club, chief proctor and a member of the National Honor Society. She graduated from Winthrop College with distinction earning a B. S. in Business Administration. She was also a member of Beta Alpha National Honorary Society
Fraternity for students of Commerce.

After graduating from Winthrop, Miss Rogers worked in Columbia for a few months with the Unemployment Compensation Commission, resigning to accept a job in Darlington with the law firm of Dargan and Paulling. After four years she accepted a job at Sonoco Products Company where she worked for 35 years as a secretary in the Purchasing Department before retiring.

Miss Rogers was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she was pianist in the Junior Department of the Sunday School for many years. She was also a former member of the Administrative Board.

Surviving are a sister, Virginia Rogers Abbott of Darlington and nieces and nephews, Bill (Carolyn) Abbott, Steve (Debra) Abbott, Karen Rogers and Kevin Rogers.

Chris R. Langston

01-16-1933 - 5/2/2004

DARLINGTON - Christy “Chris” R. Langston, age 71, died Sunday May 2, 2004 at McLeod Regional Hospital. A celebration of his life will be held in First Baptist Church at 2:00 Thursday, May 6, with interment following in Elim Baptist Church Cemetery, in Effingham, directed by Belk Funeral Home.

Sadly missed by his family and friends, Mr. Langston was a loving husband, father and grandfather, widely known in his community as a joyful, generous, and loving man. He brought happiness and hope to all those he encountered, especially the children of St. John’s Elementary, where he was a crossing guard for many years. Mr. Langston was born in Florence County, son of the late Claude S. and Georgia Carter Langston. He was married to the late Gladys Wiggins Langston and then married Bobbie W. Drew Langston. Mr. Langston served his country in the U.S. Airforce during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of First Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter; Janet (Frank) L. Wooten of Lexington, a son; John C. (Stacey) Langston of Asia, two step-daughters; Melanie (Wayne) Hale of Delaware, Christie (Mark) Happ of Darlington, a step-son; Timmy Drew of Darlington, six grandchildren; Candice (P.J.) Munn Puccio of Darlington, Amanda, Hope, and Spencer Langston, and Hayden and Hunter Happ, two brothers; W.D. Langston and Reuel Langston of New York, three sisters; Nellie L. Kirby of Olanta, Opal Shepard of Wilmington, and Waylyn Parnell of Bishopville, and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Langston was preceded in death by a daughter, Debbie Langston, a sister Mary Defee, and two brothers, Theo Langston and Carter Langston.

J. Odell Prosser

10/11/1911 - 5/5/2004

DARLINGTON- J. Odell Prosser, age 92, died Wednesday morning in a local nursing home. Graveside funeral services will be held in Grove Hill Cemetery, at 11:00 am, on Saturday May 8, 2004, directed by Belk Funeral Home.

Mr. Prosser was born in Florence County, son of the late James Monroe and Lula Jones Prosser. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Prosser was a member of First Baptist Church of Darlington where he served as assistant treasurer for many years.

Surviving are two sons; Joel(Patricia) Prosser of Florence, Olin (Muffet) Sansbury, Jr. of Spartanburg, two daughters; Nancy(Warren) S. Baker of Florence, Barbara C. Spencer of Palm Coast, Fla., one brother; James Monroe (Betty) Prosser, Jr. of Sumter, a sister, Ruth P. (John) James of Manning, nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, a special friend, Myrtie Ayers.

Mr. Prosser was preceded in death by three spouses; Annie Mae Sansbury Prosser, Jeanette Cullum Prosser, and Gladys Sansbury Prosser, a son; Larry Cullum, two brothers; Willie and Carl Prosser, and a sister Letha P. Lloyd.

Oscar Franklin Jordan, Jr.

04/22/1944 - 5/5/2004

DARLINGTON - Oscar Franklin Jordan, Jr., age 60 , died Thursday, May 6, 2004, at the Veteran’s Hospital in Charleston. Graveside funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, at Tilly Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery, Conway, directed by Belk Funeral Home.

Mr. Jordan was born in Horry County, son of Mae Rabon Jordan and the late Oscar Franklin Jordan, Sr. He served his country with the United States Army. He was a certified public accountant and was employed with Clanton’s Auto Auction for more than twenty years. Mr. Jordan was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving in addition to his mother of Florence are two sons, Brad Franklin Jordan and Thomas Fazende Jordan, both of Charlotte, NC; one brother, Will Jordan of Rock Hill and one sister, Chris Jordan of Lynchburg.

The family will receive friends, 6 - 8 p.m. Friday at Belk Funeral Home.

Christine M. Howell

10/22/1921 - 5/16/2004

TIMMONSVILLE- Myrtle Christine Myers Howell, age 82, died Sunday, May 16, at her residence. Funeral services we be held at 3:00 Tuesday, May 18, in Belk Funeral Home, Lamar Chapel with interment following in Newman Swamp Cemetery.

Mrs. Howell was born in Darlington County, daughter of the late William M. “Bill” and Lillie Belle Rodgers Grooms Myers. She had retired from Nytronics and was a member of Zion United Methodist Church.

Surviving are two daughters Laura C. Orr Cannupp and Geraldine “Gerri” C. Orr, both of Timmonsville; three half-sisters Debra M. (Steve) Peavy of Patrick, Becky M. (Junior) Boykin of Hartsville, and Anna M. (Charles) Hannah of Chesterfield, and special friends Malcolm and Mildred Rogers, and Joe Tidwell.

Mrs. Howell was preceded in death by three sisters, Maybelle M. Sturgis, Alice Myer, and Mildred M. Rollings, and two half brothers Platt Grooms and Earl Lee.
