Elizabeth S. Searles
PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. — Elizabeth S. Searles, 90, of Port Charlotte, FL passed away March 8, 2006. She was born July 31, 1915, in Detroit, MI. Elizabeth spent 10 years in Cayce, SC before coming to Port Charlotte in 1998. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Cayce, the Elks, and was a hospital volunteer. She was also involved in charity work for Easter Seals, and the American Heart and American Cancer Associations.

Elizabeth will be greatly missed by her daughter, Susan (Robert) French-Brown of Port Charlotte; 3 grandchildren; 2 great-grandsons; and sister, Eleanor (George) Murphy of Mantaloking, NJ. She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Charles.

A private burial will take place in Southland Memorial Gardens in West Columbia, SC at a later date. Vannah Shelton Hensley
COLUMBIA — Funeral service for Vannah Shelton Hensley, 83, of Columbia, will be held 3 o’clock Tuesday, March 21, 2006, at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, with The Rev. Richard Rusnak officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:30 until 7 Monday evening at Shives Funeral Home. Burial will be in Horsecreek Church of God Cemetery, Greenville, TN, at 2 o’clock, Wednesday, March 22, 2006. Memorials may be made to First Church of God, 2665 Covenant Road, Columbia, SC 29204.

Mrs. Hensley, widow of Weaver Hensley, died Saturday, March 18, 2006. Born in Madison County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Worley and Verna King Shelton. She was raised in Greenville, TN and retired from K-Mart. She was an active member of the First Church of God, Covenant Road where she was a Sunday school teacher and leader of the Women’s Bible Study.

Survivors include a daughter, Deborah Smith of Columbia; brother, Gerald Sheldon of Augusta, GA; grandchildren, Theresa (Ryan) Brady of Columbia, Vicki Creak of Greenville, TN, Sonie Hale of Newport News, VA, Tonia (Robert) Anderson of Ft. Benning, GA; 8 great-grandchildren. A brother, Grayson Shelton, predeceased Mrs. Hensley.

James Donald Tinsley
FOUNTAIN INN — Mr. James Donald Tinsley, 64, died March 16, 2006.

He was born in Greenville to the late James B. and Pearline Smith Tinsley.

Survivors: daughters, Rhonda Chappell (Doug), Piedmont, and Sonya Heitmuller (Frank) and their son Matthew, Lexington; son, Jason Phillips (Melissa), Taylors; sisters, Cordelia White, Fountain Inn, and Earline Frady, Piedmont; 6 grandchildren; and 5 stepgrandchildren.

Services will be 12 p.m. Mon., March 20, at Cannon Funeral Home, Fountain Inn, with visitation one hour prior. Burial will be in Cannon Memorial Park.

Ethel Lewis Whitley
BETHUNE — Graveside services for Ethel Lewis Whitley, age 67, widow of Donald Whitley, who died March 17, will be held Monday at 2:00 from the Brannon Cemetery. Rev. Jeff Cockrell will officiate. Directed by Norton Funeral Home, Hartsville Chapel. Visitation will be held Sunday, 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Whitley was born in Lena, LA, the daughter of Allie Mae Lewis and the late Mack Lewis. She retired from Kendall and was a member of Bethune Baptist Church. She was a devoted wife, loving and gentle mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. Our Angel on earth who made a difference in the lives of those she touched. Surviving are: mother of Louisiana; daughter and son-in-law: Rhonda and Ralph Gainey, Lugoff; son and daughter-in-law: Ken and Brenda Whitley, Hartsville; 4 grandchildren: Clay, Josh, Lauren, and Christopher; 4 sisters: Betty Tidwell, Bethune, Barbara Pruett and Edwina Corley, Louisiana, Ann Walker, Mississippi; 2 brothers, Thomas Lewis of Louisiana, Jimmy Dale Lewis, Mississippi. Memorials may be made to Bethune Baptist Church, 304 Blackmon Street, Bethune, SC 29009, or the Kershaw County Relay for Life, 647 Lachicotte Road, Lugoff, SC 29078.

James J. Sheola
IRMO — Memorial service for James J. Sheola, 88, will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel. The family will receive friends 10-11 a.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.

Mr. Sheola died Friday, March 17, 2006. Born in Phillipsburg, N.J., he was a son of the late Harry and Mary Sheola. An Army Air Corps veteran of WWII, he served in China, Burma and India. He retired as manager after twenty-nine years with Kibbler Cookies Manufacturing Company.

Mr. Sheola was commander of the South Carolina Chapter of China-Burma-India Veterans of WWII Association. He was also a charter member and officer of the Coldstream Old Guard Golf Association, a member of Young Citizens Bowling League and member of Azure Masonic Lodge in Cranford, N.J.

Surviving are his wife of sixty years, Florence V. Sheola; son and daughter-in-law, Richard J. and Kathleen Sheola of Long Valley, N.J.; brother and sister-in-law, John and Roseanne Sheola of Brick, N.J.; grandchildren, Kristen Sheola and Daniel Sheola; brother-in-law, Lockward Vines of Loveland, Colo.; and nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Regency Hospice, 1611 Hampton St., Columbia, SC 29201 or to the Lexington Fire Department.

Thelma Elizabeth Kinard Smoak
BARNWELL — Mrs. Thelma Elizabeth Kinard Smoak, 88, widow of Master Sgt. Joseph T. Smoak Sr. (retired), died Friday, March 17, 2006, at her residence.

Mrs. Smoak was born in Colleton Co. and was the daughter of the late John Buist and Nellie Varn Kinard. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Barnwell. Mrs. Smoak was on the church staff as administrative assistant/secretary for 25 years. She was very active in all phases of church life. She also served many years as treasurer for the Barnwell-Bamberg Baptist Association. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Missions Fund, 161 Allen St., Barnwell, SC 29812, the ABC Regional Hispanic Ministry, Barnwell-Bamberg Baptist Association, Rt. 1, Box 149, Denmark, SC 29042, or The Carolina Honduras Health Foundation, P.O. Box 528, Barnwell, SC 29812.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church of Barnwell with Rev. Posey Belcher, Rev. Billy Vaughn and Dr. Stephen Burnette officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Cemetery in Walterboro, SC. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday evening at Mole Funeral Home.

Survivors include: daughter and sons-in-law, Jolene S. and Jimmy Derrick of Chapin, SC; sons and daughter-in-law, Joseph T. Smoak Jr. of Columbia, SC, and Jolan and Diane Smoak of Fort Worth, Texas ; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by two sisters, Mrs. Graham (Bessie) Saunders and Mrs. Berry L. (Edna) Lyons.

Marian W. Johnson
MURRELLS INLET — Marian W. Johnson, 80, widow of Carl E. Johnson, died Friday, March 17, 2006, in Garden Manor Center.

Graveside Funeral Services, directed by Graham Funeral Home of Georgetown, will be held Tuesday, March 21, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. in Belin Methodist Church Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Milton L. McGuirt.

She was born November 22, 1925, in Marion, S.C., a daughter of the late H. K. Wilson, Sr. and Frances Vereen Wilson.

Surviving are one son, Bill Johnson and his wife Linda Burney Johnson of Murrells Inlet; two grandsons, Ron Van Vlake and his wife Teresa of Columbia and Marcus Van Vlake and his wife, Shelly of Spartanburg; two great-grandchildren, Jackson Lee and Julia Kristen Van Vlake, both of Spartanburg; one sister, Bernice Wilkinson of Georgetown; a nephew, Chris Johnson and his wife Susie of Georgetown and their daughter Brooke Sigmon; and a niece, Anne Forbes of James Island and her children, Courtney and Gregg Cameron.

She was predeceased by three brothers, Bobby G. Wilson, Eugene Vereen Wilson and Herman K. Wilson, Jr.

Debra S. Regan
WAGENER — Mrs. Debra Kay Shelnut Regan died Wednesday, March 15, 2006.

Mrs. Regan was born in Athens, GA.

She is survived by her husband Clarence D. Regan; sons, Chad Landers of New Ellenton and Justin Landers of Jackson; a sister and brother; mother-in-law, Bertha Reagan of Wagener; sisters-in-law, Jackie Shelnut of Aiken and Samantha Phifer of Salado, TX; and nephew, Joshua Reagan.

The family will receive friends Thursday, March 23rd from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Wagener Chapel of Blizzard Funeral Home, 163 Main Street South, Wagener, (803) 564-5333, and other times at the Regan home. A Memorial Service will follow the visitation Thursday beginning at 7:30 pm with the Rev. Bill Padgett officiating.

Lucille Smith Shealy
LEESVILLE — Lucille Smith Shealy, 78, died Friday, March 17, 2006, after a lengthy stay at LMC Extended Care. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 20, at Milton Shealy Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Ridge Crest Memorial Park with Rev. John McKeown officiating. Pallbearers will be Timothy, Tony, Steve, Ricky and Tommy Smith, Carrol Hall, Dwight and James Leaphart.

Mrs. Shealy was born in Leesville to the late Walter and Anna Smith. She was the widow of Clyde Shealy, and was a homemaker.

Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law, Donald L. Smith and wife, Carol of Leesville; Larry O. Smith and wife, Janet of Gilbert; W. Lavern Smith and wife, Lynn of Beach Island; stepson, Paul Shealy and wife, Chris of San Antonio, TX; brother, Dewy “Bo” Smith of Leesville; sisters, Catherine Blackwell of Lexington; Barbara Priester of Lexington; Rachael Steel of Gilbert; four granddaughters; three grandsons; three stepgranddaughters; seven great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; she was predeceased by her parents; a son, Phillip Ray Smith; two brothers, Clinton and Erskine, Sr. Smith and a sister, Mattie Hall.

Family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, March 19, at Milton Shealy Funeral Home, other times at the home of her son, Larry Smith of Gilbert. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Old Lexington Baptist Church. Milton Shealy Funeral Home (803) 532-6100 is in charge of all arrangements.

Jean Richardson Jennings
SUMMERVILLE — Graveside services for Mrs. Jean Richardson Jennings, 72, of Summerville will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 20, 2006, in Greenlawn Memorial Park with Reverend Eric Sloan officiating and interment to follow. The family will receive friends at Greenlawn Funeral Home Sunday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels in Summerville, P.O. Mrs. Jennings passed away on Friday, March 17, 2006. Born September 9, 1933, in Chester County, she was a daughter of the late Perry and Effie Richardson. Mrs. Jennings worked as a nurse in Columbia for 45 years, retiring in 1992. She was also a member of South Beltline Baptist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Dr. Debra Carol Jennings of Summerville and Elizabeth Jennings Mason and her husband Marion B. Mason of Lexington; one grandson, Bennett Christopher Mason of Lexington; two brothers, Don Richardson of Columbia and Mitchell Richardson of Elgin; two sisters, Frances Moore of Columbia and Carol Richardson of Lancaster, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Jennings was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, S.B. Jennings.

Hugh Maurice Dimmery
MESA, Ariz. — Always living life large and each day to the fullest, Hugh Dimmery lived, loved, worked and played with infectious enthusiasm and exuberant energy. On March 14, 2006, Hugh Dimmery’s time on earth with family and friends came to an end. Hugh and his wife Valli were married in 1969 and they have two special children -- Eric and Kristy, and four treasured grandchildren -- Shayna, Kayla Grace, Seth and Elianna. Hugh’s son-in-law Mark Edwards and daughter-in-law Julie helped make the family complete. Time shared together as a family often included Hugh’s parents-in-law, William and Tonia Ballard. Time with family and friends was always a celebration of love and life. Hugh was born in Columbia, South Carolina, on April 2, 1947, to Hubert and Irene Dimmery and was one of five children -- brother Terry Dimmery and sisters Lorraine Murphy, Karen Trunk, Elizabeth Krawczyk. Following a 20 year career in the U.S. Army, Hugh retired as a field grade officer and joined the Boeing Company, working for the last 18 years in management and executive positions supporting the Apache helicopter program and business development with both domestic and international customers. Always dedicated to getting the job done right, Hugh is highly regarded by friends and associates around the world. For those who knew Hugh in service, on the job, at home or on the golf course - honor, integrity and loyalty are words that define this gentleman’s character. A gathering of friends will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 23, 2006, with the memorial service beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Mountain View Memorial Gardens Mortuary, 7900 East Main Street, Mesa, Ariz. In memory of Hugh, in lieu of flowers, and to realize his wish to provide for the continued education of his grandchildren, donations may be made to the ‘Hugh Dimmery Memorial Fund’ through Bank of America at 5807 East McKellips Road, Mesa, AZ 85215. Inez Strickland Senn
WEST COLUMBIA — Inez Strickland Senn, 91, entered eternal life on March 17, 2006. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, March 20, 2006, at Mt. Hebron United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Paul Rogers and Rev. John Culp, with burial at the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Randy Senn, David Wilson, Scott Wilson, David Senn, Todd Blalock and Troy Blalock. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Mimi Senn Sunday School Class and her beloved caregivers.

Mrs. Senn was born in Savannah, GA, to the late Willie L. and Elizabeth Shuman Strickland. She was married to the late James Randolph Senn. Mrs. Senn resided in West Columbia for the past sixty-seven years. Mrs. Senn was a devoted Christian and a member of Mt. Hebron United Methodist Church for the past sixty years and also a member of the Mimi Senn Sunday School Class.

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Raymond and Nancy Senn; daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth (Lib) and Lavern Snell, Jean and Lee Hook; sister, Annie Wiggins; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ralph Senn, Teenie Senn and Vivian Senn; nine grandchildren, Randy Senn, Renee Kyzer, Pam Parks, David Wilson, Scott Wilson, Todd Blalock, Troy Blalock, Karla Gleaton and David Senn; fifteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. Mrs. Senn was predeceased by her husband of sixty-seven years, James Randolph Senn, in 1999, and son, David Randolph Senn, in 2001.

Mrs. Senn was a loving and devoted mother, sister and friend. She was adored by twenty-five grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild who all knew her as their loving “Granny.” She will be greatly missed.

The family would like to express sincere appreciation to Dr. John Lazaro and his nurse Kathy, her devoted caregivers, Palmetto Health Hospice and the Staff of Carroll Campbell Place for their support and devotion.

Roosevelt Hudson
CARLSBAD, N.M. — Roosevelt “Cooter” Hudson was born April 5, 1930, in Kershaw County, South Carolina. He departed this life on March 5, 2006, in Carlsbad Medical Center after a long illness. He was the son of the late Malon and Veola English Hudson. He shared 44 years of marriage with Thelma Rogers Hudson. After 20 years of government service, Mr. Hudson retired from the U.S. Air Force. He also was a lifetime member of VFW Post 3277 and the American Legion. In addition, he served as Post Commander of the American Legion twice.

Mr. Hudson leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of the family home; one son, Tyrone Booker Hudson of Carlsbad; three sisters, Eloise Able, Mildred Bradford and Naomi Goins-Benjamin, all from Columbia, South Carolina; two brothers, Vernell Hudson of Tacoma, WA, and Donald Hudson of Albuquerque, NM; and a host of nieces and nephews, relatives and friends, all of whom will miss him dearly.

Debra M. Hydrick
LEXINGTON — Visitation for Debra M. Hydrick, 41, will be held at 4-6 p.m. Sunday, March 19, 2006, at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Miss Hydrick was the daughter of Haskell A. (Angie) Hydrick and the late Sandra Smith Hydrick.

Miss Hydrick is survived by her father of Cayce; brother, Billy Hydrick of Irmo; sister, Cheryl (Tim) Sox of West Columbia; nephews, Cody, Luke, and Cooper; brother, John (Mari) Hydrick of West Columbia; nieces, Kayla and Sarah; nephews, Blake and John Logan; Goddaughter, Brianne Dooley and grandfather, Joe Richard (Bessie) Smith, Sr. She was predeceased by her grandmother, Marilyn M. Smith.

Ruth Branham
CAMDEN — Funeral services for Ruth Williams Branham, 81, of Camden, will be held at 4:00 p.m. Monday, March 20, 2006, at Community Bible Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Reverend Jerry Peacock and Reverend Robert Vermillion will officiate. The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, March 19, 2006, at Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel. Mrs. Branham, widower of the late Woodley Carson Branham, died Friday, March 17, 2006. Born in Kershaw, she was the daughter of the late Fulton and Nannie West Williams. She retired from Skyline and was a member of Community Bible Church.

Surviving are daughters, Linda Coulter of Camden, Gayle Boykin and her husband, Wayne, of Sumter, Lane Eisenback and her husband, Timothy of Camden and Cindy Branham of Camden; 8 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren and sisters, Alma Pate of Elloree and Betty Carter of Hartsville. She was predeceased by a grandson, Ronnie Coulter, 1 sister and 5 brothers.
