Nancy Branham

LUGOFF — Funeral services for Nancy Jane Hinson Branham, 55, will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Elgin Congregational Holiness Church with burial to follow in Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Pastor Wesley Luke, Pastor Judith Luke and Pastor Marvin Tenant will officiate. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 6, 2005, from 6-8 p.m. at Kornegay Funeral Home Lugoff Elgin Chapel. Memorials may be made to Elgin Congregational Holiness Church, 1924 Bookman Road, Elgin, SC 29045, The Kershaw County Free Clinic, East DeKalb Street, Camden, SC 29020.

Mrs. Branham died Thursday, May 5, 2005. Born in Columbia, she was the daughter of the late Early Hinson Jr. and Doris Lucille Snyder Hinson. She had retired as a Licensed Practical Nurse after 26 years of service and was a member of Elgin Congregational Holiness Church.

Surviving are her husband, Ronnie Wayne Branham; son, Henry Dwight “Buddy” O’Quinn Jr. and his wife, Patricia, of Lorton, Va.; daughter, Liza Jane Martin and her husband, Devin, of Columbia, grandchildren, Robert O’Quinn, Keith O’Quinn, Rachel O’Quinn, Jacob O’Quinn, Jessica Martin, Justin Martin and Cody; sister, Carol Ann Reynolds of Lugoff; brother, James “Jimmy” Hinson of Lugoff.

Mamie Knight

COLUMBIA — Mamie Sinclair Knight, 89, died April 29, 2005, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Knight, widow of William Francis Knight and daughter of the late Julia Starnes Sinclair and James L. Sinclair, was born in Columbia on November 26, 1915.

She was predeceased by her sisters, Bea S. Mason and Edna S. Branham; brother, Paul Sinclair; and sons, William Francis Knight, Jr. and Gerald Byron “Jerry” Knight.

Mrs. Knight is survived by her sisters, Pauline S. Smith and Ethel S. Ockoskis; son, Charles S. Knight; daughter, R. Olivia Knight; and grandson, Josh W.H. Knight, of Charleston.

She was a member of and officer in the Salvation Army and a devoted member of Bethel United Methodist Church.

Services will be held at Bethel UMC on Monday, May 2 at 11 o’clock, with interment following at Elmwood Cemetery and Gardens.

Friends of the family will be received at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, on Sunday, May 1 from 4-6 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Carolina Community Hospice in honor of their friendship and in thanksgiving for their loving care, Bethel UMC Building Fund or the Salvation Army, Senior Citizens Program.

Shirley Watson Case
McBEE — Services for Shirley Watson Case, age 66, who died March 17th, will be Monday 4:00 from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Burial will be in New Providence Cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home. Visitation will be Sunday 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Shirley was born in Hartsville, a daughter of the late Charlie C. and Ruth Gainey Watson. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of LDS and retired from Morrell Nursing Home. Surviving are: daughter, Renee (Gene) Feagin, McBee; sisters, Kittie (Frank) Mooneyhan, Lugoff, Sherri (John) Klatt, Brussells; grandchild, Jessica Johnson; great-grandchild, Skyler Johnson, Hartsville. Preceded in death by sons, Ray Von Anderson, Jr, William Leon Anderson; brother, Wallace Lee Watson; and deceased sister. Sarah Bombara
COLUMBIA — Graveside service for Sarah Cook Monts Bombara, 97, will be held Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. in Elmwood Cemetery and Gardens. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is in charge.

Mrs. Bombara, wife of the late Joseph Bombara, died Saturday, March 18, 2006. Born in Columbia, she was the daughter of the late Pinkney Samuel and Bertha Spence Cook. First married to the late Eugene Monts, she lived most of her life in the Washington , D.C. area. She returned to Columbia in 2000 and resided at Wildewood Downs.

Mrs. Bombara was a member of Mt. Vernon Methodist Church in Washington , D.C.

Surviving are sister-in-law, Erma Cook of Virginia Beach,Va.; niece, Betty Ann Bradford and her husband, Ralph, of Columbia; stepson, Elwood Bombara of Huntsville, Ala.; stepgranddaughter, Carol Pearsall and her husband, Richard, of Charlotte, N.C.; stepgrandson, Randy Short of Clearmont, N.C.; and other nieces and nephews.

Olin Baxley
BARNWELL — Olin Baxley, 69, died Friday, March 17, 2006, in Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital, Columbia, SC.

Mr. Baxley was born in Barnwell County and was the son of the late Edward and Mittie Zissette Baxley. He retired from the shop at the Milliken Corp. with 43 years service. He was a member of Reedy Branch Baptist Church and a former member of the S.C. National Guard, Barnwell Unit.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, March 20, 2006, at Reedy Branch Baptist Church with Rev. Harry Warren, Rev. Ted Still and Rev. Farrell Ray officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday evening at Mole Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 90 Manville Drive, Barnwell, SC 29812.

Survivors include: his wife, Sylvian Hutto Baxley of Barnwell, SC; son and daughter-in-law, Allen and Becky Baxley of Barnwell, SC; granddaughter, Holly Baxley of Barnwell, SC; brother, J.B. Baxley of Barnwell, SC; sister, Helen Baxley Ridgeway of Florence, SC. He was predeceased by two brothers, Benson Baxley and Henry Gaines Baxley.

Omega Thigpen
OLANTA — Mrs. Margaret Omega Coker Thigpen, age 87, widow of the late Troy M. Thigpen, died February 2, 2006, in a Florence hospital after an illness.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Pine Dale Pentecostal Holiness Church with burial in the church cemetery directed by Floyd Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. tonight (Friday) at the funeral home.
Born in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Weston Neal Coker and Maggie Driggers Coker. She was a homemaker, a member of Pine Dale Pentecostal Holiness Church, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the church.
Surviving are three daughters, Anna M. Hiott of Awendaw, Dr. Iva T. (Bob) Chapple of Hopkins, and Emma Jean (Hughie) Johnson of Olanta; three sons, Chesley D. (Alberta) Thigpen and Weston O’Neal (Susanne) Thigpen, both of Olanta, Ellis Lamar (Sadie) Thigpen of Santee; one brother, Alpha “Nick” Coker of Turbeville; 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Pine Dale Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Rose Johnson
SUMTER — Rose Hasty Johnson, 90, widow of Teddy Miles Johnson, died Tuesday, January 24, 2006, in Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Walter Thomas Hasty and the late Albertine Loyns Hasty.
Surviving are a son, Teddy Miles Johnson Jr. and wife, Barbara, of Manning; two daughters, Rose Marie Newman and husband, Rudy, of Sumter, Bertine Ruth Knoll of Columbia; 8 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Gloria Dianne Mason, and a sister, Evande Hasty Harrison.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Sumter Cemetery with Rabbi Milton Schlager officiating.
The family will receive friends from noon to 1:30 p.m. Friday at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Covenant Place, 2825 Carter Road, Sumter, SC 29150.

Diane Davenport Echols
ATLANTA — Diane Davenport Echols, 62, of Atlanta, GA, died Friday night, January 20, 2006, in the Hospice Atlanta Center after a brief illness.
Born on August 25, 1943, in Greenville, she was the daughter of George Allen Echols and Evelyn Davenport Echols of Greenville. Diane grew up in the First Presbyterian Church of Greenville, was a 1961 graduate of Greenville High School, and later attended Brenau University in Gainesville, Ga. She had resided in Atlanta for over 30 years having worked with Van Winkle & Company for ten years. Her grandmother, Flora Davenport preceded her in death.
In addition to her parents, surviving are two sons, Claude Townsend Sullivan, III, and wife, Staci Catron-Sullivan, of Decatur, GA, and Allen Echols Sullivan of Atlanta; one sister, Susan Echols Todd, and husband, Walter B. Todd, Jr. of Columbia, SC, two nieces, Linda Ewing and Lise Ewing Anzelone and husband, Rick, and one great-niece, Devin Parrish.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday, January 25 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Woodlawn Funeral Home conducted by the Rev. George Moore of First Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow in the Woodlawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Wednesday afternoon from 1 till 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mittie Lee Orr Hatch
WEST COLUMBIA — Mittie Lee Orr Hatch, died Monday, January 9, in West Columbia, S.C. She was 88. Born in March 27, 1917, Charlotte, N.C., she was the daughter of Nathaniel Jordan Orr and Mittie Bradley Orr. A graduate of Central High School in Charlotte, she attended Columbia Bible College, now Columbia International University, where she was honored in 1992 as an Alumna of the Year. She was the widow of Rev. James M. “Buck” Hatch.
Through the years, she was active as a homemaker, mother, and pastor’s wife, leading and teaching a variety of Bible studies. She was employed at Columbia International University for a decade in the media department. Her late husband, “Buck” Hatch, taught for nearly 40 years at Columbia International University. She often traveled with her husband in his broad teaching ministry across the U.S.A., South America and England. She resided for the last 11 years at Laurel Crest Retirement Community in West Columbia and was an active member of Cornerstone Presbyterian Church.
Her husband predeceased her in 1999, as did a son, Robert Allen Hatch, in 1989. She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law James Donald and Janet H. Hatch (St. Louis, Mo.), Nathan Orr and Julie G. Hatch (Winston-Salem, N.C.), David Bradley and Judith M. Hatch (South Bend, Ind.), and daughter-in-law Alice H. Hatch (Atlanta, Ga.), 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; sisters and brother-in law, Alma Orr Cordle, Harriet Orr and Judson Lennon; and sisters-in-law Nancy Orr and Mary Stuart Taylor.
In lieu of burial, Mrs. Hatch donated her body to the University of South Carolina School of Medicine.
A memorial service will be held at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, Irmo, S.C., Sunday, January 15 at 3 p.m. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.

James Goins
WINNSBORO — Services for Mr. James Lewis Goins, 46, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Glovers Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. Goins was educated in Fairfield County schools. He is survived by a son, LeQuinn A. Alston; his mother, Fannie Porter; two brothers, Patrick Porter of Killen, Texas , Albert Goins of Winnsboro; two sisters, Connie Clark of South Bend, Ind., and Chonty S. Porter of Winnsboro. Burial will be in Morris Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Winnsboro.

Billy Severe Lyles
AIKEN — Services for Billy Severe Lyles, 67, are 2 p.m. Monday (visitation 6-8 p.m. Sunday) at Shellhouse Funeral Home, burial in Kedron Baptist Churchyard. Born in Westminster to D.W. and Ida Hanserd Lyles, he died Jan. 5, 2006. Surviving: wife, Laverne Lyles; children, Elizabeth Stevenson, Lisa Barron, Robert Lyles; 4 grandchildren; siblings, Jean Richardson, Jeanette Chandler, Sara Habert, Silas, Jerry Lyles.

Rev. Edward Tracey

HOPKINS — The Rev. Edward J. Tracey, Rector of St. John’s Episcopal Church Congaree, Hopkins, S.C., died peacefully of cancer in his home Dec. 7, 2005. Father Tracey was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania . He was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a B.S. in Criminal Justice and a graduate of Virginia Theological Seminary with a Master’s Degree in Theology. Father Ed served six years in the Navy during the Vietnam Conflict. After that service, he spent eight years as a police officer for the city of San Diego before moving back to Pennsylvania , and a 16-year career at IBM. Before entering Virginia Seminary he served as the Assistant Director of West Virginia Small Business Development Center and as a consultant for IBM.

Upon graduation from Virginia Seminary, he served as assistant Rector at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Charleston, W.Va. He accepted a call as Rector of St. John’s, July 1, 2003. In addition to his work at St. John’s he had also served as Chaplain for the Richland County Sheriff’s Dept.

Father Tracey was married to Sandy Tracey, who is a Credit Counselor for Family Services here in Columbia. They are the proud parents of four children, Julie Peterson of Yankton, S.D., Michelle Tracey of Centreville, Va., Brian Rogers of Las Vegas, N.V., and Angela Tracey of Pittsburg, Pa., and three grandchildren, Cody, Carly and Cole Peterson of Yankton, S.D. Father Tracey is also survived by his parents, Edward and Theresa Tracey and three siblings, Eileen Cortese, Dennis Tracey, and William Tracey.

Father Ed was an active member of The Cursillo movement. He was instrumental in bringing Angel Food Ministry, a program to provide affordable food to the people of the community. Anyone who knew of him was aware of his love for the game of golf, the Pittsburgh Steelers, his family, his friends and all people. They also knew of his great love of the Lord Jesus Christ.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, 2005, at Trinity Cathedral on Sumter Street in Columbia, S.C. The service will be officiated by the Rt. Reverend Dorsey F. Henderson, Jr. A visitation will be held at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Congaree at 1151 Elm Savannah Road, Hopkins, S.C., Friday, Dec. 9, 2005, from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

ELLOREE — William Burden “Billy” Bookhart, Jr. died Monday, November 21, 2005, in Palmetto Health Richland Hospital.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 23, 2005, at The First Baptist Church with Rev. Clark McCrary, Rev. James Kinsler and Rev Dr. Carl F. Martin officiating. Burial will be in Bookhart-Bookhardt Family Cemetery, Elloree, SC.

Mr. Bookhart was born in Columbia, a son of the late William Burden and Sara Power Bookhart. He was a graduate of Elloree High School and Clemson College Class of 1964. He owned Bookhart Farms and Elloree Realty. He was elected to the Elloree Town Council 1977 - 1979 and served as Mayor Pro Tem. He was elected Mayor in 1979 and served through 1988. While he served as Mayor, the town received Governor Richard Riley’s GREAT Town designation and also successfully recruited a Food Lion Distribution Center. He was elected by the General Assembly to the S.C. Highway Commission and served as Vice Chairman 1990 - 1991 and Chairman 1991 - 1992. In 2001 and in November 2005, he was again elected Mayor of Elloree. Prior to this he had served as municipal judge. In 1979 he was the youngest member ever elected to the Board of Directors of South Carolina Electric and Gas (now SCANA) and was the longest serving member. He served on all committees of the Board during his tenure and was presently serving on the Nuclear Oversight Committee, the Human Resources Committee and as Chairman of the Nominating and Governance Committee. Mr. Bookhart was a Founder and Chairman of the Board of Elloree Academy. He formerly served on the Selective Service Board of Orangeburg County and the 278th Military Intelligence Unit, U.S. Army Reserve, Aiken, SC. He was a past member of the Elloree Lions, Elloree Jaycees, and Knights of Pythias, serving as Grand Chancellor. He was a member of Elloree First Baptist Church. Mr. Bookhart was an avid outdoorsman, golfer and hunter and was a Sponsor Member of the National Wild Turkey Federation. He was an avid Clemson fan and an IPTAY Representative for Clemson University.

Survivors include his wife, Eleanor Faye Williams Bookhart of the home; sons, W. Burden Bookhart, III and wife, Andrea, Elloree, James Hunt Bookhart, Elloree; granddaughters, Madison, Jordan, and Faith; sister, Sara B. DeLapp and husband, Bill, Lexington, NC; niece, Julie Trimakas and husband, Todd, Cornelius, NC, and nephew, Lee Peppers and wife, Katherine, Jupiter, FL; sister-in-law, Kaye W. Borgstedt, Orangeburg; three brothers-in-law, Judge James C. Williams, Bragg M. Williams and wife, Salley, both of Norway and Todd F. Williams and wife, Angie, St. George; and by his pets Pete and Katie.
