Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, June 12, 2006, at Christian Assembly Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, June 12, 2006, in Barrineau Pentecostal Holiness Church cemetery directed by Stoudemire-Dowling Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Monday, June 12, 2006, at the Christian Assembly Church.

MT. CROGHAN — Services for Rev. L.C. Boatwright, 84, widower of Annie Brown Boatwright, 2 p.m. Monday at Miller-Rivers-Caulder F.H., Chesterfield, burial in Cross of Calvary Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery. Born in Chesterfield to Leroy and Beulah Mae Davis Boatwright, he died June 7, 2006. GEORGETOWN — Services for Maoma Sasser Bullock, 88, widow of Franklin Bullock Sr., 11 a.m. Monday at Church of Christ with burial in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens. Visitation is 4-6 today at Mayer F.H. Born in Carbur, Fla., to James and Annie Morgan Sasser, she died June 10, 2006. Surviving: children, Martha, Mary, Franklin Jr.; grandchildren, Ann, Christia, Beth, Amy, Herbert, April, Joseph, Joshua; great-grandchildren; more.

Walter Allen Dickens III
CHAPIN — Funeral service for Walter Allen Dickens, III, 63, will be held Sunday at 4:00 p.m. at Riverland Hills Baptist Church with burial to follow in St. Jacobs Lutheran Church Cemetery, Chapin. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to the Gideon’s International. Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, is assisting the family.

Mr. Dickens died Saturday, June 10, 2006. Born in Charleston, S.C., he was a son of the late Walter Allen Dickens, Jr. of Columbia and Ernestine McManus Dickens of Easley. He graduated from Easley High School and received his B.A. Degree from Clemson University. A veteran of the United States Navy, he retired from BellSouth Telephone Company after 32 years of service.

Mr. Dickens was a member of Riverland Hills Baptist Church where he was a member of Serving our Saviour Sunday School Class and the Gideon’s International. He was Past Master and currently Secretary of Dutch Fork Masonic Lodge 402 A.F.M. and a member of Scottish Rite 32nd Degree.

Surviving are his wife, Barbara B. Dickens; daughters, Tresban D. Staton and her husband, Dell, of Irmo, Marie Hydrick of Lexington, and Judy Long of Chapin; sister, Jeanne D. Sauls and her husband, Rodney, of Liberty, S.C.; brother, Randal L. Dickens and his wife, Susan, of Chapin; and six grandchildren.

John Evans Jr.
COLUMBIA — Services for Mr. John Evans, Jr., 92, of 300 Burmaster Road, will be held Monday, June 12, 2006, at 2:30 p.m. at A.A. Dicks Funeral Home, Sullivan Chapel. A.A. Dicks Funeral Home, Sullivan Chapel, is in charge of these arrangements.

Mr. Evans died Thursday, June 8, 2006.

He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John and Ruby Bailey Evans, Sr.

He was a retired employee of Ed Robinson Cleaners. He also was a former employee of Kroger Grocery Store.

He is survived by his grandson, John Jamal (Paulette) Evans of DeLand, Florida; his nieces, Jackie Evans Graves of Columbia, SC, Barbara Fair of Washington DC, Sylvia Hamilton of Columbia, SC, Joann Pauling of Columbia, SC and Joy C. Evans of Columbia, SC; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mary Halliday
CHAPIN — Funeral services for Mary Halliday will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 12, 2006, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Sunday, June 11, 2006, at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Chapin Chapel.

Mrs. Halliday passed away Thursday, June 8, 2006. Born November 12, 1919, in Fair Lawn, NJ, she was the daughter of the late John A. and Antonia Wiewiorka Kancylarz. She is the widow of Ret. Col. Kenneth G. Halliday.

She is survived by sons, Gregory J. Halliday (Anne) of Marlboro, MA, Dr. Douglas W. Halliday (Terrie) of Syracuse, NY, LTC (Retired) Edward F. Halliday (Evelyn) of Chapin, SC; daughter, Elizabeth A. Halliday of Chapin, SC; brother, John Kancylarz (Renie) of East Brunswick, NJ; grandchildren, Gordon, Kevin, Kenneth, Matthew and Daniel Halliday.

Mrs. Halliday was predeceased by her brother, Joe Kancylarz and his wife Alice.

Robert H. Fowler Jr.
COLUMBIA — Service for Robert H. Fowler, Jr., 82, will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Rev. Craig Wilkes will officiate. Visitation will be Sunday 4-6 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.

Mr. Fowler died Saturday, June 10, 2006, due to complications of Parkinson’s Disease. Born in Rock Hill, he was the son of the late Robert H. and Vera M. Fowler. His family moved to Columbia in 1929. He was a graduate of Dreher High School and received a B.S. degree in Business from USC. A Army Air Corps veteran of WW II, he served in the China-Burma-India Theatre. He later joined the Air National Guard and was activated to serve in the Korean Conflict. He was a sales representative with Liberty Life Insurance for thirty years. He was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are his wife of forty-eight years, Eunice Cooper Fowler; sons and daughters-in-law, Robert H. III and Nancy Fowler of Melbourne, Fla. and William N. and Deborah Fowler of Ridgeland; grandsons, Robert H. Fowler IV and John David Fowler of Melbourne and Brandon Fowler and Andrew Fowler of Ridgeland; and granddaughter, Sara Beth Fowler of Ridgeland. He was predeceased by sister, Sara F. Green.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 1324 Marion Street, Columbia, SC 29201.

Lt. Col. Hugh Jones
HOPKINS — Service for LTC Hugh Elijah “Hogeye” Jones, South Carolina Army National Guard (Ret.), 81, will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Greenlawn Baptist Church with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park Serenity Gardens. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is in charge.

Mr. Jones, husband of the late Sara Mae Fox Jones, died Friday, June 9, 2006. Born in Hopkins, he was a son of the late Ernest Benjamin and Ellen Agnes Turkett Jones. An Army veteran of WW II, he retired from the National Guard. He was a volunteer football coach for Lower Richland High School and served on the chain crew for forty-two years. He had not missed a home game in fifty-four years and was a member of the Booster Club.

Mr. Jones was a member of Greenlawn Baptist Church, Master Mason of Eastover Lodge #406 and American Legion Post #46.

Surviving are son, Phillip H. Jones of Hopkins; daughter and son-in-law, Aletha Jones Jacobs and Toby Jacobs of Hopkins; sisters, Martha J. Manuto of Columbia and Faye J. Harris of Hopkins; and granddaughter, Buffi Colleen Jacobs of Dallas, Texas . He was predeceased by his brother, Denley W. Jones.

Thomas Avery Joyner
COLUMBIA — Funeral service for Thomas Avery Joyner, 78, of Columbia, will be held 10 o’clock Monday, June 12, 2006, at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel. The Reverend Cathy Jamieson-Ogg will be officiating. Interment will follow in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens with full military honors. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Mid-State South Carolina Chapter, P.O. Box 7044, Columbia, SC 29202.

Mr. Joyner was born January 15, 1928. He was the son of the late Albert L. and Myrtle Smith Joyner. Mr. Joyner had retired from the South Carolina Air National Guard. He was a member of Trinity Methodist Church in Blythewood, the American Legion, Post 6 and the Air Force Sergeant’s Association.

Survivors include his wife, Vernelle Stone Joyner; sons, Thomas A. “Sandy” Joyner, Jr. of Columbia, Terry L. Joyner of Blythewood and Albert E. “Gene” Joyner of Columbia; grandchildren, Krystal, Karen, Stacey, Austin, Blake, Lorin and Kendra; one great-grandchild, Preston; sisters, Theresa Summer of Columbia and Betty Haigler of Irmo and a brother, Donald A. Joyner of Columbia.

Arthur Bridgman Wilds Jr.
IRMO — Memorial services for Mr. Arthur Bridgman Wilds, Jr., 56, of 2123 Autumn Woods Road, Irmo, South Carolina, will be held Monday at 12:00 p.m. at Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary, 4201 Main Street. The family will receive friends in the chapel following the service. Leevy’s Funeral Home, Taylor Street Chapel, is in charge.

Born in Columbia, June 21, 1949, he was the son of Arthur Bridgman, Sr. and the late Elizabeth Foster Wilds. Mr. Wilds attended Presbyterian College in Clinton, South Carolina. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during the Vietnam War. He worked as a General Foreman for Fluor Corporation. Mr. Wilds was a member of Grace Covenant Church in Northwest Columbia.

Surviving are his wife, Tonya Mosley Wilds of Irmo, South Carolina; daughter, Jessica (Max) Stimmler of Princeton, MN; sister, A. Kathryn Wilds of Rock Hill, SC, Rebecca (Phil) Harkey of Columbia; grandsons, Jonathan and Jared Stimmler of Princeton, MN; nieces, Kiri Rawson and Kathryn McClure of Lexington, South Carolina.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Learning Institute for Tomorrow, 1609 Pageland Highway, Lancaster, SC.

Juanita Adams Lake
WHITE ROCK — Funeral service for Juanita Adams Lake, 84, will be held 4 o’clock Sunday, June 11, 2006, at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. H. Brett Collins officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Lake, widow of Curtis L. Lake, Sr., died June 8, 2006. Born in Newberry County, May 20, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Willie E. and Lillie McCollum Adams. Mrs. Lake was a faithful member of Bethel Lutheran Church in White Rock and requests that memorials be made to her church, 2081 Dutch Fork Road, White Rock, SC 29177.

Survivors include her sons, D. Michael Lake and wife, Teresa, of Ridgeway, and Curtis L. Lake, Jr. and wife, June, of Cayce; daughters Debbie Willis of Gaston and Ginger Brandt and husband, Ron, of Columbia; sisters, Jeanette Sox and Mildred Bundrick, both of West Columbia; grandchildren, Allen Simpson, Chris Lake and wife, Alison, Laurel Jeffcoat and husband, Willie, Amanda Koon, Julene Lake, Denise Pound and husband, Ricky, and six precious great-grandchildren.

Our mother was a praying, bible-reading Christian woman who loved her family. She was loved by all and will be greatly missed by those left behind.

Ossie Cudd Whaley
UNION — Mrs. Ossie Cudd Whaley, age 96, widow of Ernest Derieux “E.D.” Whaley, of 109 Merriman Ave., Union, died Sat., June 10, 2006, in Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mrs. Whaley was born in Greer, Jan. 8, 1910, a daughter of the late William Scove and Mary Alma Painter Cudd. She was educated in Union Co. schools and was the last surviving member of the Union High School class of 1927. She attended Roper School of Nursing and was active in genealogy and flower gardening. Mrs. Whaley was a member of the First Baptist Church for 70 years where she taught G.A.’s, Sunday School, Training Union and was a member of the W.M.U. Missionary Society. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Daughters of the Confederacy, and the Spartanburg Genealogical Society, along with several other organizations. Mrs. Whaley researched, compiled, and published the book, Cemeteries of Union County which is used as a reference book by genealogists and those researching their family ties. As a genealogist, she has helped numerous people trace their ancestors and helped them prepare the necessary paperwork for entrance into the United Daughters of the Confederacy, and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She is survived by a daughter, Margaret Whaley McCarley and husband, John, of Union; a son, Ernest Derieux Whaley, II; five grandchildren, John David McCarley, Jr., Julia M. Bass, Kevin Whaley McCarley, E. Hamilton Whaley, A. Sean Whaley; five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Monday, June 12, 2006, at First Baptist Church by Rev. Robert Emory. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Brenda H. Taylor
HEATH SPRINGS — Mrs. Brenda H. Taylor, age 48, of 2216 Rock River Road, died Friday morning, June 9, 2006, in Grand Strand Hospital. She was born January 21, 1958, in Columbia, SC, the daughter of Laverne Harrelson and Barbara Wylie Harrelson. Mrs. Taylor was twice married, first to the late Jim Taylor and secondly to Buck Rollings. Mrs. Taylor was a Mary Kay Cosmetics Representative, an avid supporter of the Lancaster County Schools and the University of South Carolina, and a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.

Mrs. Taylor is survived by her husband, Buck Rollings of the home; a son, Darrell Taylor of the home; her parents, Laverne and Barbara Harrelson of Columbia; a stepson, Kevin Rollings and his wife, Michelle, of Lancaster; a sister, Linda Harrelson of Columbia; an adopted sister, Amy Saylors of Lancaster; a stepgrandson, Druw Rollings; 2 nephews, Brian Robinson and Derek Taylor; and a niece, Laura Grey Taylor.

The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mrs. Taylor will be 11:00 a.m. Monday morning, June 12, 2006, at Immanuel Baptist Church by Dr. Dale Roach with burial to follow at Lancaster Memorial Park.

The Family of Mrs. Taylor will receive friends from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. Sunday evening, June 11, 2006. at Hartley Funeral Home, 1800 Charlotte Highway, Lancaster, SC and suggest memorial contributions be made to Gift of Life, PO Box 1214, Newberry, SC 296108.

Eddie Jim Robinson
ALLENDALE — Services for Eddie Jim Robinson, 63, will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Cave Funeral Services with burial in Beulah Baptist Cemetery. Born in Trenton, N.J., to Carrie Bell Moore Brown and Jim Robinson, he died June 5, 2006. Surviving are wife, Lizzie Priester Robinson; daughter, Gwendolyn Bloom; siblings, Willie, Evelyn, Allen, Woodrow, William, Henry, Louise, Bernice.

Mary Hamilton Motley
WHITE ROCK — Graveside service for Mary Hamilton Motley, 87, will be held Thursday at 10:00 a.m. in Motley Union Baptist Church Cemetery, Motley, Ala. Memorials may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church Building Fund, 4766-B Sunset Blvd, Lexington, SC 29072. Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, is assisting the family in Columbia and Radney Funeral Home is assisting the family in Alexander, Ala.

Mrs. Motley, wife of the late J.P. Motley, died Saturday, June 10, 2006. Born in Jasper, Ala., she was a daughter of the late Andrew Jackson Hamilton and Callie Staggs Hamilton.

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Joseph A. and Emily Motley of Sneads Ferry, N.C.; daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Terry Brooks of Chapin, S.C.; sisters, Hazel Anderson of Asheboro, N.C., and Lorene Hutchins of Phoenix, Ala.; grandchildren, Jennifer Davis, Jeffrey Motley, Joel Motley, Andrew Brooks, Jonathan Brooks, and Susan Brooks Smith; and great-grandchildren, Jordan Davis, Jillian Davis, Jenna Kate Davis, Julia Motley, Jacob Motley, McKinley Brooks, Parker Brooks, and Carson Brooks.

Martha T. Myllo
COLUMBIA — Service for Martha Tsalapatas Myllo, 69, will be held Monday at 3 p.m. at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church with burial in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens. Trisagion Prayers will be Sunday at 7 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with visitation until 9 p.m. Memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 1931 Sumter St., Columbia, SC 29201 or to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation at www.komen.org.

Mrs. Myllo died Friday, June 9, 2006. Born in Chicago, Ill., she was a daughter of the late Constantine “Gus” and Panaiota “Pansy” Tsalapatas. As a parishioner of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, she was a member of St. Katherine’s Philoptochos Society and The Daughters of Penelope. She was also a member of The Ladies Society of Karyae of Gastonia, N.C. With unwavering dedication to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, she served as a Sunday School teacher for over fifty years, a Greek Festival culture room volunteer and a former church secretary. She was a recent recipient of “The Holy Trinity Award” for outstanding service to the parish.

Mrs. Myllo was also a member of the American Diabetes Association and an associate member of The Federation of the Blind.

Surviving are her husband, James C. Myllo, Jr.; daughter, Joanna Myllo of Brooklyn, N.Y.; brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Joanne Tsalapatas of Columbia; sister, Helen Karounis of Chicago; nieces, Pamela Church and Anna Gratzick; great-niece, Susannah Church; and great-nephews, Nicholas and Benjamin Gratzick. She was predeceased by her brother, George C. Tsalapatas, Marine Sergeant killed in action on Iwo Jima.

Ruth Evans Woodman
BLACKVILLE — Ruth Evans Woodman, 76, wife of Russell Woodman, died Wednesday, July 26, 2006, at her home.

Born in Brookfield, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Elijah F. and Essie Campbell Evans. She was a graduate of Norman Junior College, class of 1949. She was a former substitute teacher at Barnwell County Vocational Center. She was a faithful member of First Assembly of God in Barnwell. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Mole Funeral Home Chapel, Barnwell, with Rev. James Eller and Rev. James Hunnicutt officiating. Burial will follow in Barnwell County Memory Gardens on Reynolds Road. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Saturday evening at Mole Funeral Home.

Survivors include her husband, Russell Woodman of Blackville; sons, Ivan (Edna) Woodman of Houston, MS, Mark Woodman of Barnwell; daughter, Pam (Roger) Stephens of Aiken; brother, Eugene Evans of Tifton, GA; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
