Surviving: children, Teresa Armstead, Tabitha, Sam, Christopher Turner, Taneil Sapp; siblings, Louise Roper, Katherine Footman, Aaron, John, Jimmy Footman; 7 grandchildren.

David Voyd McCrea
KINGSTREE — Services for David Voyd McCrea, 61, are 2 p.m. Monday at Mt. Zion UMC with burial in Dimery Greenlawn Cemetery. Dimery and Rogers F.H. is in charge. Born in Kingstree to Ben and Roberta McCrea, he died August 9, 2006. Surviving: wife, Jannie Ruth; children, Terry, Melissa, Iris McCrea, Robert Tisdale Jr.; Tiffany Waymyers, Letha Denson; parents; 1 aunt, 3 uncles, 6 grandchildren; others.

Kathryn Lyn Beyer
COLUMBIA — Services for Kathryn “Kathy” Lyn Beyer will be held 11 a.m. Friday, October 13, 2006, at Riverland Hills Baptist Church. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Breast Cancer Research, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210. Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Irmo/St. Andrews Chapel, at Bush River Memorial Gardens, is in charge.

Ms. Beyer passed away October 10, 2006. Born December 6, 1952, in Bonduel, WI, she was the daughter of William Beyer and Kathleen Kingston Beyer. She was a member of Riverland Hills Baptist Church and involved with Sistercare and the YMCA. She worked for 27 years with Dr. Guy Meares.

Survivors include her parents of Delaware; brother, David Beyer and sister, Beth Goobie, both of New Jersey; son, Robert Dorsey and wife, Michelle; daughter, Amy Watts and husband, Kevin, all of Columbia; grandchildren, Haley and Will Dorsey.

Nancy S. Thames Roscoe
GILBERT — Services for Nancy S. Thames Roscoe, 57, will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 6, 2006, at Gilbert First Baptist Church with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, November 5, 2006, at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel.

Ms. Roscoe passed away Friday, November 3, 2006. Born in Sumter, SC, she was the daughter of the late Louis R. Thames and Myrtle Lee Stone Thames. Ms. Roscoe was a very loving mother, grandmother and a devoted Christian.

Ms. Roscoe is survived by her children, John “Tommy” (Sarah) Daniels, Kathryn “Christine” (George) Harmon, Kenny (Jennifer) Daniels and Terri Roscoe (Khris Hughes); grandchildren, Crystal Daniels, Sean Jardin, Heather Harmon, Ashley Harmon, T.J. Daniels, Tayler Daniels, Erin Coon, Brittany Daniels, Samantha Daniels, Hollie Daniels, Tyler Coon, Amanda Daniels and Gavin Hughes; great-grandchild, Kaiden Loveless; sisters, Ruby Morris, Janice Dubose and Linda Cambell; brothers, Willie, Randy, and Hubert Thames. The family would like to recognize Miriam Corley, Priscilla Gable and Nancy’s other dear and close friends.

Norman Burrell Cooler
MURRELLS INLET — Norman Burrell Cooler, age 83, died Saturday, November 4, 2006, in National Healthcare of Garden City.

Mr. Cooler was born January 3, 1923, in Coosawhatchie, SC, a son of the late Ernest and Allene Belger Cooler. He was a Staff Sergeant with the U.S. Army Air Corps serving in WWII at the European Theater, and was an engineer on the B-17 (Flying Fortress). Mr. Cooler was a POW of Germans and received the Purple Heart and the European Campaign Medal. After serving in WWII he became a superintendent at Hunting Island State Park and later moved to Huntington Beach State Park in 1960. He then became the district superintendent in charge of the coastal state parks from 1970 until his retirement in 1977, after 30 years of service.

Mr. Cooler enjoyed traveling, outdoor life and had a great love of animals.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Russ Cooler, in 1987, and by his brother, Ernest Wesley, Cooler, Jr. and his wife, Ann.

Survivors include his son, Karl Cooler and his wife, Gail Agett Cooler, of Roanoke, VA; daughter, Norma Cooler and her husband, Wayne Pierce, of Murrells Inlet; brothers, Harold Cooler and his wife, Bette, of Charlotte, NC, Don Cooler and his wife, Helen, of Beaufort; sister, Marjorie Campbell of Birmingham, AL; sister-in-law, Sylvia Russ Thomas and her husband, Dexter, of Beaufort; granddaughter, Courtney Mitchell and her husband, Eric, of Murrells Inlet; and great-grandson, Witt Mitchell of Murrells Inlet; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 7, 2006, at Belin Memorial United Methodist Church. Burial will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in Beaufort National Cemetery in Beaufort, SC.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, November 6, 2006, at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel.

Memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society, 3241 10th Ave. North Ext., Myrtle Beach, SC 29577, or to Belin Memorial United Methodist Church, Endowment Fund, PO Box 528, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576.

Bob Edward Roberson
JOANNA — Services for Bob Edward Roberson, 42, are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. Olive AME Church. Born in Joanna to Olin and Sarah Glasco Roberson, he died Nov. 3, 2006. Surviving: wife, Deloris Anderson Roberson; stepchildren, Paul, Leslie Wilson; grandmother, Zelia Burton; sisters, Debra Bowman, Pamela, Sarah, Sonya Roberson; 5 uncles; 2 aunts; 5 brothers-in-law; 3 sisters-in-law; nieces, cousins and friends.

Elizabeth Scott
KINGSTREE — Mrs. Elizabeth Brown Scott, 82, widow of James Atwood Scott, died Tuesday, October 10, 2006, in a Kingstree hospital.

Mrs. Scott was born in Horry County, a daughter of Georgina Causey Brown and Henry Harrison Brown. She graduated from Socastee schools and was a homemaker. Mrs. Scott was a member of Central Presbyterian Church.

Survivors: two sons, Randy Scott and Elwyn Scott and one daughter, Kay Scott Dorrell, all of Kingstree, one sister, Frances McCrea of Kingstree, eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, October 12, 2006, at Williamsburg Funeral Home Chapel. Memorials may be made to Williamsburg Academy, 1000 Sandy Bay Road, Kingstree, SC 29556 or to the Williamsburg Regional Hospital Foundation, P.O. Drawer 568, Kingstree, SC 29556.

Owen “Ken” McCutcheon
DILLON — Mr. Owen Kenneth “Ken” McCutcheon, 82, died Saturday, September 30, 2006, at his residence. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, October 1, 2006, at Kannaday’s Funeral Home of Dillon. Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Monday, October 2, 2006, at First Baptist Church of Dillon with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery, directed by Kannaday’s Funeral Home of Dillon.

Mr. McCutcheon was born September 22, 1924, in Dillon, a son of the late O. Kenneth and May Parler McCutcheon. He married his wife, Elizabeth Patience Alford McCutcheon, in 1948. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Dillon where he taught and was director of Sunday school. He was a World War II Army veteran, a graduate of Presbyterian College, coached and taught at Dillon High School and was the principal of Hamer Canaan School. He sold farm chemicals for Mobile, worked for Canal Wood, worked at Dillon Veneer, owned and operated McCutcheon Hardware, was a Magistrate of Dillon County for 15 years, was a member of the Lion’s Club for over 50 years, a member of Helping Hands of (St. Eugene) McLeod of Dillon and coached American Legion Baseball.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Elizabeth Alford McCutcheon of the home; son, Owen Kenneth (Janet) McCutcheon Jr. of Dillon; daughters, Anna Katherine McCutcheon (Danny) Bass of Dillon, Elizabeth McCutcheon (Jim) Rozier of Myrtle Beach; sister, Barbara McCutcheon Smith of Fairmont, NC; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 400 N. 4th Ave., Dillon, SC 29536 or to Presbyterian College in Clinton, SC.

Ruth C. Blume
BLYTHEWOOD — Funeral service for Ruth Chappell “Nannie” Blume, 97, of Blythewood, will be held at 4 o’clock Monday, November 6, 2006, at Oak Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Murray Gibbons and Rev. Bill Lynch officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Her great-grandson, Jim, will play the violin. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o’clock Sunday at Shives Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Oak Grove United Methodist Church, Building Fund, 8515 Winnsboro Road, Blythewood, SC 29016.

Mrs. Blume died peacefully Friday, November 3, 2006, at her home. Born in Richland County February 11, 1909, she was a daughter of the late Oscar and Florrie McMeekin Chappell. She graduated from Jenkinsville High School and attended Roper Hospital Nursing School in Charleston, SC. She completed her internship at the State Hospital in Columbia, SC, and practiced as a Registered Nurse. She worked briefly for the American Red Cross and later practiced private duty nursing. She married Lonnie Sanders Blume in 1932, and together had three daughters. Mrs. Blume continued her nursing career in addition to being a wonderful seamstress, homemaker and gardener. She loved her family dearly and was loved equally in return. She had a special place in her heart for all children. She was the matriarch of her family. Mrs. Blume was an active member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church until her death.

Surviving are her daughters, Barbara (Tommy) Simpson, Alta (John) Seaber, Florrie Dowdey; grandchildren, Donna Seaber (Eddie) Raines, Joan Seaber (Jimmy) Graddick, Karen Seaber (Art) Braswell, Valerie Thomas (Jeff) Rawl, Melanie Thomas (Chris) Brown; great-grandchildren, Jenny Raines, Kaitlin Wilson, Jarrett Wilson, Jim Graddick, Jordan Rawl, Abigail Rawl, Gordon Brown and Grant Brown; a sister, Annie Hill; nieces, nephews and a host of friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Lonnie Sanders Blume, cherished grandson, Jim Seaber, son-in-law, Ernie Dowdey, siblings, Thomas O’Dell Chappell, Mattie Chappell, Dr. Travis Chappell, Dr. Beufort Chappell, Susan Monts, Dorothy Hinnant, Grace Stroud and Mable Fowler.

The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to Marcie Frick, RN and Pam with Palmetto Health Hospice and to Betty Randleman for her dedicated love and assistance.

Russell E. Frazier
GRESHAM — Mr. Russell Edward Frazier, 85, widower of Frances Dozier Frazier, died Saturday, November 4, 2006, in McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence after an illness.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 7, in Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Bobby Byrd officiating. The services will be directed by Smith-Collins Funeral Home.

Mr. Frazier was born October 18, 1921, in Spurville, Va., a son of the late Ezra and Daisy Maude Frazier. He retired from CITGO as an oil terminal supervisor. Mr. Frazier was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II. He was a Mason with Scottish Rites and a Shriner.

Mr. Frazier is survived by a sister, Mary Lee Williams of Oxen Hill, Md.

James Kaswell
HANAHAN — Entered into eternal rest at his residence Friday, November 3, 2006, James Thomas Kasell, widower of Agnes Kolb Kasell. Residence, Hanahan, South Carolina. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral services at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Greenridge Road Chapel, North Charleston, SC, Monday afternoon, November 6, 2006, at two o’clock. Burial will follow in Carolina Memorial Park, North Charleston, SC. Friends may call at Stuhr’s Greenridge Road Chapel this Sunday evening, November 5, 2006, between six and eight o’clock. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 5900 Core Road, Suite 504, North Charleston, SC 29406.

Mr. Kasell was born March 15, 1927, in Horatio, South Carolina, a son of the late Benjamin F. and Mamie Parnell Kasell. He was a retired welding supervisor for the Charleston Naval Shipyard, a member of Ashley River Baptist Church, a member of Chicora Lodge #366 A.F.M., a former welding instructor at Trident Technical College and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He is survived by a daughter, Debra K. Arriolo of Summerville, SC; two sisters, Mary Vaughn of Columbia, SC, and Ruth Detreville of Charleston, SC; four grandchildren, Romana Caddell, Gabriel Arriolo, Tammi Arriolo and Jason Arriolo; and two great-grandchildren, Jillian Arriolo and Brittany Poole. He was predeceased by a sister, Thelma K. Dixon; and three brothers, B.F. Kasell, Jr., Bob Kasell and Bill Kasell.

Nettie Mae Sible
COLUMBIA — Graveside service for Nettie Mae Pearce Sible, 86, will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in Westover Memorial Park, Augusta, Ga. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shandon Presbyterian Church, 607 Woodrow St., Columbia, SC 29205. The family will receive friends Sunday 3-5 p.m. at 6125 Cedaridge Road. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.

Mrs. Sible died Friday, November 3, 2006. Born in Albertville, Ala., she was the daughter of the late Nathan and Mary Slaughter Pearce. A former resident of Tampa, Fla., she moved to Augusta, Ga. in 1951 and worked in Civil Service at Ft. Gordon.

A member of Shandon Presbyterian Church, Mrs. Sible was for 50 years an active member of First Baptist Church, Augusta.

Surviving are her husband of almost 60 years, George H. Sible; daughter, Linda S. Olson of Columbia; grandson, Grant Edward Olson, Jr. of Greenville; and nephew, David B. Smith of Tampa, Fla.

Sara Hawkins Hamm
NEWBERRY — Services for Sara Hawkins Hamm will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Memorials may be made to the St. Luke’s Lutheran Church Building Fund, 4056 St. Luke’s Church Road, Prosperity, SC 29127. Services entrusted to McSwain-Evans Funeral Home.

Mrs. Hamm, 82, died November 3, 2006. Born in Prosperity, she was a daughter of the late George Wilbur and Alice Kunkle Hawkins. She was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church.

Surviving are her husband, Marvin J. Hamm; sons and daughters-in-law, Perry and Cynthia Hamm and Bennett and Phoebe Hamm, all of Newberry; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Carol Fulmer of Newberry; sisters, Pauline Branham of Blythewood, Lottie Martin of Prosperity and June King of Columbia; a brother, Thomas Hawkins of Prosperity; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Hamm was predeceased by a grandson, David Hamm, a sister, Julia Williams and brothers, Harold Hawkins and Bobby Hawkins.

William “Bill” Donald Bray
PROSPERITY — A memorial service for William “Bill” Donald Bray will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 7, 2006, at Zion United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to Zion United Methodist Church Building Fund, 80 Zion Circle, Prosperity, SC 29127. Services entrusted to McSwain-Evans Funeral Home.

Mr. Bray, 81, died November 4, 2006. Born in Monroe, GA, he was a son of the late William L. and Ida Craft Bray. Mr. Bray was a World War II Army veteran. He had retired from Union Camp as a forester and worked after retirement at the Mid-Carolina Country Club. He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church where he was a former Sunday School Teacher. Mr. Bray was a Mason for 47 years and was a member of Prosperity Masonic Lodge.

Surviving are his wife, Esther Mae Gutherie Bray; sons, Skip (Berna) Bray, Sam Bray, Richard Bray and Don Bray; a daughter, Patti Bray; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; like a son, Allen Renshaw and like a daughter, Jan Casey. He was predeceased by a brother, Tyrus Bray.

Hazelene Watson Caulder
MARION — Services for Hazelene W. Caulder, 74, widow of Austin Caulder, 3 p.m. Monday: Mullins-Marion Freewill Baptist Church, burial: Caulder Cemetery. Visitation: 6-8 tonight, Cox-Collins F.H., Mullins. Born in Florence Co. to Jake Sr. and Mamie Watson, she died Nov. 4, 2006. Surviving: children, Audrey Johnson, Jimmy, Ricky Calder, Kim Graham; grandchildren, Chad, Jimmie Johnson, Chasity Cook; others.

Jack B. Drake
CHARLESTON — Entered into eternal rest, Jack Burean Drake, 65, of Charleston, the morning of Friday, November 3, 2006.

The family and friends are invited to attend his memorial service Saturday, November 11, 2006, at a time to be announced, at New Beginnings Community Church, 849 Ft. Johnson Road, James Island 29412.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jack’s memory to the New Beginnings Community Church Building Fund would be appreciated.

Mr. Drake was born November 4, 1940, in Columbia, SC, son of the late Jack B. and Ruth Drake. An Airborne Army veteran of Vietnam, he was a master welder and pipefitter in nuclear power facilities construction.

Jack is survived by his wife, Peggy Duncan Drake, his son, Tony Drake and his wife, Rachael, of Cayce, SC, his daughter, Angie Jeffcoat and her husband, Steve, of Columbia. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Tara Jeffcoat, Alex Jeffcoat, Taylor Drake and Kent Waddell, and an aunt, Garretta Lucas of St. Petersburg, FL.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Geraldine Connell.

Arrangements were made through Palmetto Cremation Society.

Helen Jones Hatfield
SUMTER — Helen Jones Hatfield, 80, wife of Harold B. Hatfield, Jr., died Friday, November 3, 2006, in Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born in Gaffney, SC, she was the daughter of the late Henry Quinton Jones and the late Nettie Atcheson Jones.

Mrs. Hatfield was a school teacher who retired from Albemarle High School in North Carolina with 22 years of service. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Limestone College and was a member of Grace Baptist Church, the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Genealogical Society.

Surviving is her husband of Sumter; two daughters, Shelley H. Edwards of Sumter, Melissa H. Riggs of Flagstaff, Arizona; a sister, Marcia J. Hutchinson of Rock Hill; two grandchildren, Derrick O. Edwards, Jr. and Jessica H. Edwards, both of Sumter; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday at the chapel of Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. James Chandler officiating.

Burial will follow in Sumter Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 Sunday at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Grace Baptist Church, 219 W. Calhoun St., Sumter, SC 29150.
