Evelena Blume Adams
DENMARK — Evelena Blume Adams, 75, of Denmark, passed away November 3, 2006, at her Jacksonville, N.C., home. The loving mother of nine children, she was preceded in death by her son, David W. Adams.

She is survived by her brother, Julius W. Blume of Trenton; William T. Adams, father of surviving children, William D. Adams, Ruth E. Adams. Benjamin T. Adams, Joseph R. Adams, Rachel L. Adams, Walter A. Adams, Rebecca K. Adams and Jeanine L. Adams. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday in Denmark Cemetery, Denmark, with the Reverend Pete Cassidy and Drew Parker officiating.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home in Jacksonville, N.C.

Mercer Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Gladys Anderson
CAYCE — Services for Gladys W. Anderson 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Burial: Gibson Cemetery. Visitation is 1-8 tonight at Jones Metropolitan Funeral Home, West Columbia. Born in Orangeburg Co. to Willie and Vernetha Kitt Wannamaker, she died Nov. 3, 2006. Surviving: mother; husband, Willie “Bobby” Anderson; sons, Angelow, Timothy, Dimitri Anderson; six siblings.

Sadie Nichols Felker
NEWBERRY — Services for Sadie Nichols Felker will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at The Lutheran Church of the Redeemer. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 7-8 p.m. Wednesday at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation or to The Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, PO Box 382, Newberry, SC 29108.

Mrs. Felker, 88, widow of J. Roy Felker, died November 6, 2006. Born in Prosperity, she was a daughter of the late Newton Arthur and Martha Sease Nichols. She was a former cosmetologist and a member of The Lutheran Church of the Redeemer where she was a member of the 50 plus Group and WELCA.

Surviving are a son, James R. Felker Jr. of Prosperity; daughters, Martha McAlister of Travelers Rest, Sally Myers of Newberry, Ann Rice of Kenly, NC, and Marie Brigman of Lexington; a sister, Dorothy Counts of Newberry; eight grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Lester Burnell Dannecker
LEXINGTON — A memorial service for Lester Burnell Dannecker, 94, will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 8, 2006, at Saxe Gotha Presbyterian Church in Lexington preceded by a graveside service at 9:30 a.m. in Elmwood Memorial Gardens and Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 Tuesday evening, November 7, 2006, at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel.

Mr. Dannecker, husband of the late Ruth Dannecker, passed away peacefully in his sleep Saturday, November 4, 2006. Born August 17, 1912, in Irvington, NJ, he was the son of John M. Dannecker and May Diebold Dannecker, both of whom died when he was very young.

Mr. Dannecker graduated from Mount Herman Preparatory School in Northfield, MA, and earned a degree in Chemical Engineering from Newark College of Engineering. A pharmaceutical representative with the Pfizer Corporation, he was the top salesman with the company several times. He was treasurer of the First Congregational Church in Westfield, NJ, elder and treasurer of Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church in Hagerstown, MD, an officer of the Rockville Power Squadron in Rockville, MD, and was active in many other community activities. The last several years he had loved attending and playing rummy at the Lexington Senior Center. He will always be remembered for his caring and gentlemanly ways.

He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis D. and Ronald H. Combs of Lexington; son, Robert B. Dannecker of Riva, MD; three grandchildren, Julie Molster and husband, Mike, of Edgewater, MD, Cheryl D’Angelo and husband, Matt, of Greer, SC, and Douglas Combs and wife, Becky, of Lexington, SC; six great-grandchildren, Alex Molster, AnnaKate D’Angelo, Adam D’Angelo, Ashlyn Combs, Natalie Combs and Ethan D’Angelo. He was predeceased by a brother, Nelson J. Dannecker, and a daughter-in-law, Joyce Dannecker.

Memorials may be made to the National Camps for the Blind Children, P.O. Box 6097, Lincoln, NE 68506-0097.

Clara Mae Shafer Muri
CHERRYVILLE, N.C. — Clara Mae Shafer Muri, 93, of 601 Delview Road, died Sunday, November 5, 2006, in Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte.

She was born September 8, 1913, in Buena Vista, Rockbridge County, Virginia, a daughter of the late George Preston and Lily Ann Shorter Shafer. Mrs. Muri was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marcus Joseph Muri, and eight brothers and sisters.

Survivors include two daughters, Marcine Thompson and husband, Col. John Wendall, of Orangeburg, SC, and Linda McQuaige and husband, Jim, of Cherryville; two sons, Alan Muri and wife, Betty, of Chalottesville, VA, and Marc Muri and wife, Kay, of Blythewood, SC; four grandchildren, Father James Fraser Lyon IV and wife, Sally, of Columbia, SC, John Marcus Lyon and wife, Celeste, of Lexington, SC, Shawn Rupard of Cherryville and Kelly Webster and husband, Ted, of Kings Mountain; six grandchildren, James, Leslie, Lindsay and Andrew Lyon and Shafer and Hayden Rupard; and a sister, Ruby Chaplin of Buena Vista, VA.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at First United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. with burial to follow in City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home of Linda and Jim McQuaige, 601 Delview Road.

Memorials may be made to Harris Hospice, Presbyterian Hospital, 200 Hawthorne Lane, Charlotte, NC 29204.

Frances Sicoutris Kiparisus
COLUMBIA — Service for Frances Sicoutris Kiparisus, 91, will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church with burial in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Tuesday at 7 p.m. with Trisagion Prayers at 8 p.m. at the church. Memorials may be made to Hellenic Fund, c/o Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 1931 Sumter St., Columbia, SC 29201. Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo, is assisting the family.

Mrs. Kiparisus, wife of the late Angelo E. Kiparisus, died Monday, November 6, 2006. Born in Greece, she was the daughter of the late Constantine and Eugenia Spithoyanis Sicoutris. An artist and published poet, she was a member of the Columbia Artists Guild.

Mrs. Kiparisus was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Daughters of Penelope and Philiptochos.

Surviving are son and daughter-in-law, George and Carol Kiparisus of Lexington; daughter and son-in-law, Genie K. and Steve Bitzas of Columbia; grandchildren, Dean and Nicole Bitzas, Krista and Andrew Howell, Elisha and Joe Carbonaro and Van Bitzas; six great-grandchildren; and brothers, Nico Sicoutrys of Orlando, Fla., Mike Sicoutrys of New York and Angelo Sicoutris of New York and their families. She was predeceased by stepgrandson, Johnny Gregory Jr.

Marcus Antonio Wilson
COLUMBIA — Services for Mr. Marcus Antonio Wilson will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday (viewing at 1 p.m.) at Leevy’s Funeral Home, Taylor Street Chapel, with burial in Lincoln Cemetery. Surviving are his mother, Judith (Mark) Johnson; father, Anthony J. Taylor; sons, Malik Wilson and Jordan Hickman; brothers, Travis, Kendrick and Bryan Wilson and Justin Hollins; sisters, Jarden Wilson and Amaiya Johnson; grandparents, Mary E. Wilson, Hubert and Johnnie Mae Taylor.

Laurie C. Bryant
ORANGEBURG — Laurie Clark Bryant, 81, of 2483 Griffith Drive, died Saturday evening, November 4, 2006, in The Regional Medical Center.

Funeral is 11 a.m. Wednesday November 8, 2006, at Dukes-Harley Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Will Brown officiating. Burial: Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers: Bobby Bryant, Harry Sells, Winfield Shecut, Eddie Godowns, Clint Godowns, Dickie Godowns, Monty Rast and Jimmy Rast. Honorary pallbearers: members of St. Andrews United Methodist Church Fellowship Class.

Mrs. Bryant was born in Cope, a daughter of the late Winfield and Annie Laurie Kirkland Clark. She attended Converse and Coker Colleges. Mrs. Bryant was a member of The Regional Medical Center Auxiliary Volunteers for 19 years. She was a charter member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church and the Fellowship Sunday School Class. She was predeceased by a brother, William Edward (Bubbie) Clark, and a sister, Mary C. Shecut. Mrs. Bryant was the widow of William Drayton Bryant Jr.

Survivors: son, William Drayton Bryant III and wife, Rebecca, Orangeburg; daughter, Kathryn Marie Bryant, Crocketville; SC, four sisters: Mrs. Sara C. Vardell, Charleston, Mrs. Audrey C. Godowns, Orangeburg, Mrs. Ed (Jeanne) Rast, Cameron, Mrs. Jim (Jessie) Rast, Cameron; granddaughter, Vivian Bryant; a number of nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to St. Andrews United Methodist Church, 1980 Columbia Road, Orangeburg, SC 29115 or to the Rotary CART Fund for Alzheimer’s Research, PO Box 2325, Orangeburg, SC 29116

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5 - 7 p.m. at Dukes-Harley Funeral Home. At other times friends may call at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Drayton Bryant, 3280 Plum Circle, Orangeburg.

The family would like to extend sincere appreciation to Ms. Mae Guinyard for her unwavering assistance and friendship.

Nancy Lynn Davis
COLUMBIA — A memorial service for Nancy Lynn Davis, 50, will be held Tuesday at noon at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.

Ms. Davis died Saturday, November 4, 2006. Born in Columbia, she was a daughter of Doris Mae Buchanan Davis and the late Nathan Silas Davis. She is survived by daughter, Katie Nipper of Cordele, Ga.; her mother of Columbia; sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Steve Holleman of Chapin; niece, Amy Holleman; nephew, Nathan Holleman; and aunts, Grace Davis and Juanita Hinnant.

Rayford Taylor
GILBERT — Rayford E. Taylor, 76, passed away Friday, November 3, 2006. Services will be held 4 p.m. Thursday, November 9, at Milton Shealy Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Larry Kyzer and Rev. Nelson Taylor officiating.

He was born in Lexington to the late John and Blanch Kyzer Taylor. He was an Army veteran and served in the Korean War.

Surviving are his wife, Barbara Jean Manley Taylor; daughter and son-in-law, Wanda Darlene Brewer and husband, Mark Jeffrey, of Gilbert; brother, J.C. Taylor of Red Bank; sister, Margaret Heywood of Leesville; granddaughter, Lauren Kayla Brewer.

Milton Shealy Funeral Home of Batesburg-Leesville is in charge of all arrangements.

Donna Marsh
CAMDEN — Mrs. Donna Holmes Marsh, 53, of Camden, died Sunday, November 5, 2006. Born in Ft. Lee, Virginia, she was the daughter of Edra Nell Hendrix Holmes and the late John Perry Holmes. Mrs. Marsh was an active member of Christian Home Educators of Camden.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, November 8, 2006, at 10 a.m. in Wateree Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Richard Cameron will officiate. The family will receive friends Tuesday, November 7, 2006, from 6 - 8 p.m. at Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel.

Surviving are her husband, Duane D. Marsh, her mother of Camden, daughter, Jessica E. (Donald) Pegram of Camden, son, Jason D. Marsh of Camden, brother, Alan (Kenna) Holmes, niece, Margaret (Daniel) O’Connor, and nephew, John A. Holmes Jr. of Lakeland, Florida.

Benjamin Washington
BEAUFORT — Benjamin F. Washington , 70, U.S. Navy Master Chief Petty Officer, (Ret.), died Wednesday, November 1, 2006, in Beaufort Memorial Hospital.

Funeral is 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 8, 2006, at Bethesda Temple of St. Joseph Baptist Church, St. Helena Island. Burial with full military honors will follow in Beaufort National Cemetery.

Public viewing is 1 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Joseph M. Wright Memorial Chapel of Marshel’s Wright-Donaldson Home For Funerals.

Wake services are 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the sanctuary of Bethesda Temple of St. Joseph Baptist Church.

He was born May 9, 1936, in Charleston, South Carolina, the son of the late Paul Williams and Rosalie Washington and was reared by his grandmother, the late Emma Washington .

He was educated in the public schools of Charleston County, having attended Tree Trees Elementary School and was a 1955 graduate of Burke High School (The Class with Class). The Class of 1955 continued to meet monthly and he served as president of the Charleston Chapter. They provided scholarships for many students and traveled extensively together over the years.

He retired from the U.S. Navy after 31 years of service and achieving the highest rank possible as an enlisted person, Master Chief Petty Officer. During his military career, he served in many places and received numerous awards, accomadations, certificates and recognition for his achievements. His final duty station was U.S. Naval Hospital Beaufort’s Navy Exchange. Upon retiring, he settled in Beaufort and received an associate degree in Hotel and Business Management from Beaufort Technical College. He was then employed by the Beaufort County Veterans Affairs Office under William Grant as a field officer. After Mr. Grant’s retirement he was appointed Director, a position he held for the past 10 years.

He was affiliated with numerous organization and received numerous accolades for his work. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign War (VFW) Post 9166; Life member Beaufort Disabled American Veterans Chapter 12; a member American Legion Post 207; South Carolina Veterans Association where he served as Chairperson of the By-laws and Constitution Committee and the National Veterans Affairs Association and a Life member of the Montfort Point Marine Association.

He and his wife recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary August 26, 2006, with a celebration given by their children.

As a young man in Charleston, he was a member of First Baptist Church. He was affiliated and worked with many churches as he traveled throughout his military career. At the time of his death he was a member of Bethesda Temple of St. Joseph Baptist Church, St. Helena Island.

In addition to his parents and grandmother, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Martha Ferrell and Brenda Matthews, and son, Benjamin F. Washington Jr.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Evelyn S. Washington of Beaufort; four daughters, Rosalie “Priscilla” Matthews of Charleston, SC, Kathleen Washington of Beaufort, SC, Angela Middleton of Winston-Salem, NC, and Diane Campbell of Charleston, SC; one son, Christopher C. Washington of Greensboro, NC; two brothers, Paul Williams Jr. of Charleston, SC, and Ed Williams of Oklahoma; sisters, Nellie Chisolm of New York, Viola Cox, Rachel Brown, Lavenia Williams, Mable Ann Crowmell, Cora Lee Ladson, all of Charleston, SC, and Laura Gladden of Philadephia; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and other relatives.

Marshel’s Wright-Donaldson Home For Funerals is in charge of the arrangements.

Joyce Long Parker
WEST COLUMBIA — A celebration of life service for Joyce Ann Long Parker, 61, will be held 3 p.m. Thursday, November 9, 2006, at Fellowship Baptist Church, 4238 Augusta Road, Lexington, SC 29072. Officiating will be the pastor, Rev. Roger Clark. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be members of the Prime Timers Sunday School Class. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the church building fund. Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington is in charge.

Mrs. Parker departed this earth to be with her Heavenly Father Tuesday, November 7, 2006, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Hickory, NC, on November 2, 1945, she was the daughter of the late James and Peggy Haskins of Blackville, SC. Joyce retired from the James F. Byrnes Medical Center, S.C. Dept. of Mental Health, after thirty-three years of dedicated service. She was an active member of Sunday school and the Fellowship Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, of the home, Philip Parker; daughters, Kimberly Parker, Lacey Parker, both of Columbia; brothers and sisters-in-law, Eugene “Buddy” and Mary Frances Long of Atlantic Beach, FL, Jaime and Diane Haskins of Blackville, SC, Kenneth and Lucy Haskins of Columbia, SC; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank our Lord for his grace and comfort, for a loving and caring church and church staff, Dr. William Butler with S.C. Oncology Associates for his compassionate care, his two wonderful chemo nurse angels, Dusty Burrell, Ann Potthast, and nurse Debbie Greene in the research dept. “Teeny” will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and animals, Jordan and Spook.
