Bradley Jason Barfield
LEXINGTON — Funeral services for Bradley “Jason” Barfield, 23, will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, November 9, 2006, at Caughman Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, with interment to follow in Woodridge Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be William Taylor, Kyle McGee, Ryan Turner, Chad Pate, John Burns, Roy Donahue, Travis Nance and Josh Nance. Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 8, 2006, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to, the Jason Barfield Memorial Fund for the care of his daughter at First Citizens Bank, 5561 Sunset Blvd., Lexington, SC 29072. Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, is in charge.

Mr. Barfield passed away, November 4, 2006. Born March 29, 1983, in Columbia, SC, he was the son of Billy and Karen Barfield. He attended Wood Elementary, Pine Ridge Middle and Gilbert High School. He played baseball for Midland Dixie Youth League and Bray Park Pony League. He also played basketball in various recreational leagues, the middle school league and was a 4-year varsity basketball player at Gilbert High School. He was employed with Vista Windows and Doors. Jason loved playing basketball and playing his Xbox. He was described as having an infectious smile and could light up a room. Jason also enjoyed listening to music, working in the yard, gardening, playing with his dog, Broc, being with family and friends and making people laugh.

Jason was a great brother and enjoyed beating Jamie in a game of “horse.” He was a wonderful son, grandson, nephew and friend to all. He was a wonderful dad and loved Ashley and Breanna very much.

Survivors include his daughter, Breanna Jolee Barfield, companion, Ashley Burgess Fitzpatrick; parents, Billy and Karen Barfield of Gilbert; brother, Jamie (Brittany) Barfield of Lexington; niece, Brenlanne Reese Barfield; maternal grandparents, Dorothy C. Morris of New Zion; paternal grandparents, Mary A. (Ed) Claytor of Hopkins; maternal aunts and uncles, Sandra Brewer of Manning, Evelyn (Joe) McLeish of Rock Hill, Marian (Rick) Lindsey of West Columbia; Paternal aunts and uncles, Deborah (John) Crews of Lexington, Perry (Susan) Barfield of Lexington, Lisa Chandler of Lexington, and Sherry Tomlinson of Anderson; cousins, Marie, Robbie, Amanda, Jonathan, Nikki, Hunter, Amy, Will, Stephen and BJ and a numerous amount of great uncles, aunts and second cousins. He is predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Judge James M. Morris and paternal grandfather, Roland J. Barfield.

Robert Lee Kibler Sr.
PROSPERITY — Service and burial for Robert Lee Kibler Sr., 77, Sons of Aid Society member, 2 p.m. Thursday at Lower Mount Olive AMEC, Wilson Funeral Home, Newberry, in charge. Born in Newberry Co. to Jesse and Ida Kibler, he died Nov. 4, 2006. Surviving: wife, Mandy; children, Wayne, Willie, James, Robert Jr., Tina Kibler, Judy Kinard; grandchild, great-grandchildren; siblings, Jessie, Jani Kibler, Sarah Boyd; more.

Marquis Mitchell
COLUMBIA — Services for Mr. Marquis Mitchell will be held 2 p.m. Thursday (viewing at 1 p.m.) in the Leevy’s Funeral Home, Taylor Street Chapel with burial in Lincoln Cemetery. Surviving are his mother, Catherine Oree; biological parents, Betty Mitchell and Anthony Ford; four children, Kelo and Keith Parker, Deandre and Devontae Moyd; brothers, Antonio, Richard, Thomas, and Pete Mitchell; sisters, Lashawnda (Ronald) Hall, Tina and Constance Oree, Mary and Shaunta Mitchell; grandparents, Eloise Oree, Raymond and Dorothy Ford; and a companion, Tashanda Parker; god mother, Ann McDaniels.

Elsie J. Miles
COLUMBIA —Funeral service for Elsie Johansen Miles, 57, of Columbia, will be held two o’clock, Thursday afternoon, November 9, 2006, at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service at one o’clock. Interment will be in Norway at a later date.

Mrs. Miles died Saturday, November 4, 2006. Born in Oslo, Norway, she was the daughter of the late Harald- Robert and Else Marie Hansen Johansen. She had attended Shandon Baptist Church and worked in the Child Care Center. Mrs. Miles was a citizen of Norway. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her husband, Robert D. “Bob” Miles of Columbia; daughters, Ann-Kristin Teague and husband Bill, Anette Johannessen, all of Columbia; son, Bjoern-Roar Johannessen of Raade, Norway; granddaughters, Emily, Erin, Elsa, and Eva; grandson, Simen Ingebret; sister, Anne Johansen, and brother, Egil Johansen, also of Norway. A brother, Harry Johansen, predeceased her.

Leman Greene
ABBEVILLE — Services for Leman Edward Greene Sr., 83, are 2 p.m. Thursday at Main St. UMC. Burial: Long Cane Cemetery. Visitation 6-8 tonight: Chandler-Jackson F.H. Born in Immanuel Co., Ga., to Daniel and Flora Greene, he died Nov. 7, 2006. Surviving are wife, Nora; children, Jane, Lee, Jim, Daniel; grandchildren, Courtney, Carl, Ed, Steven, Zan, Coby, Krista, Emilie; siblings, Vivian, Robert.

Roy F. Brand
MAITLAND, Fla. — Roy F. Brand, 88, of Maitland, FL, ended his journey in life Wednesday, September 27, 2006. He was born April 4, 1918, to Herman and Catherine Brand, in Smithfield, NE. He lived in Smithfield, Loomis and Holdrege, NE, for 56 years. Roy moved to Newberry, FL, where he lived for 14 years. He then moved to Columbia, SC, for another years. He spent the last two years of his life in Maitland, FL. He was the devoted husband of Eula Brand. Together they lovingly reared their four children. Roy is survived by his wife, Eula; his two sons, Kent Brand of Florence, AL, and Terry Brand of Columbia, SC; his two daughters, Buena Wheless of Durham, NC, and Cathie Brand of Maitland, FL; his brother, Delmar Brand of Bertrand, NE; his three sisters, Esther Hall of Bertrand, NE, Ethel Embeier, also of Bertrand, NE, and Fern Wells of Scottsbluff, NE; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The family has requested in lieu of flowers, contributions be made in Roy’s memory to the Roy Brand Memorial Fund, York College, 1125 East 8th St., York, NE 68467. A service of remembrance will take place Sunday, November 12, 2006, at 2 p.m. at Lexington Church of Christ, Lexington, SC. Interment will take place in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL.

Rawn Clifton Scurry
SPARTANBURG — Mr. Rawn Clifton Scurry, 40, of 140 Prospect Ave., Spartanburg, SC, died at home Saturday morning, November 4, 2006. Native of Columbia, SC, he was a son of the Rev. Shirley F. Scurry of Columbia, SC, and the late Mr. Harrison L. Scurry. In addition, he was the grandson of the late Mr. Clifton and Mrs. Lillie Foster of Spartanburg, SC. He was a 1982 Honor graduate of A.C. Flora High School in Columbia, SC. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was employed with the S.C. Correctional System, Bose and Mack Trucking.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by one brother, Mr. Harrison L. Scurry of Rockville, MD; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives and friends.

The family is at the home of his aunt, Ms. Julia F. Gist, 140 Prospect Ave., Spartanburg, SC.

A memorial service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at First African Methodist Church. Rev. Arnold E. McJimpsey Sr. will officiate.

Martha Louise Bacon
COLUMBIA — Martha Louise Bacon, 103, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, went home to be with her Lord Monday, November 6, 2006, in Lexington Medical Center Extended Care, Lexington, S.C.

She was the daughter of the late George A. Still and Mattie L. Still of Blackville, S.C., and wife of the late Waldo C. Bacon of Columbia, S.C.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Clark McManaway and her husband, Mac, of Hendersonville, N.C.; grandchildren, Carol Clark Teal and her husband, Leland, of Chapin, S.C., Beth Clark Lindler and her husband, Donnie, of Chapin, S.C., Cindy Clark Spires and her husband, Corky, of Cayce, S.C.; great-grandchildren, Brooke Lindler, Amanda Haltiwanger and her husband, Jason, Brittany Farley and her husband, Chris, Heather Alford and her husband, Brandon, Josh Lindler and Meagan Spires, all of South Carolina.

Visitation will be Wednesday, November 8, 2006, from 5-8 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.

Funeral services will be Thursday, November 9, 2006, at 2 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Garners Ferry Road.

Sibyl Elizabeth Bagwell
SPARTANBURG — Sibyl Elizabeth Bagwell, of Spartanburg, died Sunday, November 5, 2006, at White Oak Estates. Born in Glendale, SC, she was a daughter of the late Robert Fred and Sallie Elizabeth Pearman Bagwell. A graduate of Spartanburg High School and Winthrop College, majoring in Home Economics, she began her teaching career at Landrum High School and retired from Cleveland Junior High School. She was a member for 51 years of the Eta Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, serving as president from 1980-1984, and receiving the Order of the Rose in 2002. She was a member of Ben Avon Methodist Church.

Survivors include a sister, Betty Bagwell Shuler of Columbia, SC, a niece, Betty Hauser Hammond of Spartanburg, who was her primary caregiver, and numerous other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers, Weldon, Leroy and Fred Bagwell, and a sister, Reba Hauser.

Visitation will be 1-2:30 p.m. Friday, November 8, 2006, at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel. Graveside services will follow at 3 p.m. in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Larry R. Hyder.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity or ministry of one’s choice.

Margaret Gasque
RIDGEWAY — Funeral services for Margaret Rydberg Wallin Gasque, age 90, will be held 3 p.m. Thursday, November 9, 2006, at St. Stephens Episcopal Church, Ridgeway, SC, conducted by the Reverend Thomas P. Dwyer. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Pope Funeral Home in Winnsboro. Mrs. Gasque died Monday, November 6, 2006, at Wildewood Downs Retirement Center in Columbia, SC.

Born Januray 21, 1916, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Mrs. Gasque was the daughter of the late Victor Johnson and Wilhelmina Rydberg Wallin and the wife of the late John Allard Gasque. Having grown up in Bolivia, she attended Mt. Holyoke College in Massachusetts and received her B.A. degree from the University of Minnesota. She was a member of St. Stephens Episcopal Church. Mrs. Gasque was a devoted wife, homemaker and mother who showed unconditional love for her family.

Surviving are two daughters, Margaret Elizabeth Gasque Patrick of Ridgeway and Susan Wallin Gasque d’Erizans of Winnsboro; one sister, Wilma VeLasco of LaPaz, Bolivia; five grandchildren, Margaret Rose Patrick, Thomas Alexander Patrick IV, Roberto Jose d’Erizans IV, Christina Margarita d’Erizans, and Rebecca Carolina d’Erizans; seven nephews and two nieces.

The family suggests memorials be made to St. Stephens Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 26, Ridgeway, SC 29130.

Pope Funeral Home is serving the Gasque family.

Leroy Blackburn
COLUMBIA — A memorial service for Leroy W. Blackburn, 76, will be held 3 p.m. Thursday at Northeast Presbyterian Church in Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Blackburn went to be with the Lord November 3 after a lengthy illness.

Born in Bells, Tennessee, he was a son of the late Organ Rufus and Emma Buford Blackburn. He was a professional driver for over 40 years, most recently employed with Miller Transport, until his retirement. A lifelong resident of Memphis, Tennessee, Mr. Blackburn was most recently a resident of Northeast Columbia, moving here in June 2005.

A beloved father and grandfather, Mr. Blackburn is survived by a son, Stephen Glen Blackburn of Hernando, Mississippi; a daughter, Ms. Bonnie Cannon of Columbia; a daughter, Donna Scott of Amarillo, Texas ; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Archo Blackburn of Memphis, Tennessee.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Northeast Presbyterian Church.

The family would like to thank Tri-County Hospice and Dr. Keith Guest.

Laura Hartley
BATESBURG — Laura J. Hartley, 58, passed away Monday, November 6, 2006. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, November 10, at Milton Shealy Funeral Home chapel with interment in Ridge Crest Memorial Park with Rev. Kim Weathers officiating. Pallbearers will be Jeff, Rodney and Brian Hartley, Thomas and James “Bubba” Corbett, Mathew and Andrew Kneece.

She was born in Batesburg, daughter of the late Ralph O. Sr. and Jesse Louise Hartley. She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.

Surviving are her sister, Betty Turner of Batesburg; special friend, Billy Wood of Batesburg; predeceased by brother, Ralph O. Hartley Jr.

Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, November 9, at Milton Shealy Funeral Home, other times at her residence.

Theodora Buddin
SUMMERVILLE — Theodora Barton Buddin, 87, widow of Cecil Eugene Buddin Sr., died Nov. 7, 2006. Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at Bethany UMC. Burial: White Church Cemetery. Dorothy Davis Hobgood
ROXBORO, N.C. — Graveside service for Dorothy Joan Davis Hobgood, 72, will be held Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is in charge.

Mrs. Hobgood died Sunday, November 5, 2006. Born in Columbia, she was a daughter of the late Amos and Ethel Anderson Davis. She was a graduate of the Old Columbia High School and retired from the ladies department of Elder-Beerman Department Store in Dayton, Ohio.

Surviving are her husband, James Stanley Hobgood of Troy, Ohio; and sister and brother-in-law, Mildred Davis and Fletcher Mims of Columbia.

Jerry Lee Harrison
WEST COLUMBIA — A memorial service for Jerry Lee Harrison, 50, will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday, November 8, 2006, at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. The family will receive friends at Mr. Harrison’s home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Riverbanks Zoo in memory of Jerry Lee Harrison.

Mr. Harrison passed away, November 6, 2006. Born February 10, 1956, in Norfolk, VA, he was the son of the late Henry Grady Harrison and Shirley Mae Bray Harrison. He was an avid gardener and loved animals.

Survivors include his companion of fourteen years, Jay Markle of West Columbia; brothers, Grady Garrett Harrison of Virginia Beach, Va., and Dennis Glenn Harrison of Chesapeake, Va.; sisters, Connie Harrison Drum of Chesapeake, Va., and Suzanne Harrison Gregory of Camden, N.C.; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Rita Harrison Tanner.

Martha C. Harvey
WHITE ROCK — Martha Chamberlain Harvey, 95, passed away November 6, 2006. She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, William R. Harvey. Born May 16, 1911, in Turtle Creek, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Pauline Chamberlain.

Mrs. Harvey is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ronald W. and Patti Harvey of Pa.; daughter, Linda F. Frueauf of Chapin, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Earl Horton
HEATH SPRINGS — Services for Earl Franklin Horton, 59, USAF veteran, VFW member, maintenance supervisor at Warrior Gulf Navigation Co. of 22 years, are 11 a.m. Thursday in Salem Cemetery. Visitation is 7-8:30 tonight at Baker Funeral Home, Kershaw. Born in Lancaster to W.G. and Myrtle Bowers Horton, he died Nov. 3, 2006. Surviving: sister, Willene Goshorn; nephew, Christopher Goshorn; friends.

Eugene Oliver
COLUMBIA — Services for Mr. Eugene McKinley “Mark” Oliver, of 108 Tillbury Drive, will be held noon Thursday at Palmer Memorial Chapel with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 6 p.m. today at Palmer Memorial Chapel.

Mr. Oliver died Saturday, November 4, 2006. Born in Crewe, Va., he was the son of the late Junius McKinley and Mattie Scott Oliver. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army and retired from Westinghouse NFD.

Surviving are his wife, Joan J. Oliver; children, Eugene (Jill) of Denver, Colo., Marcus and Dana Oliver of Alpharetta, Ga.; siblings, Maxine Dupey, L. Cornell (Rosalind) and Milton (Celeste) Oliver; three grandchildren.
