Helen Furr Whitmire

Mrs. Helen F. Whitmire
EUTAWVILLE- Mrs. Helen Furr Whitmire, 78, of Eutawville, wife of William E. "Bill" Whitmire, died Saturday in a North Charleston hospital.

The funeral will be 11 o'clock Monday in Avinger Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dale Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in the Eutawville Cemetery.

Mrs. Whitmire was born in Pineville, NC, a daughter of the late Albert Furr and Ada Dry Furr. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene, a member of the DAughters of the Nile, and a member of the EAstern Star. Mrs. Whitmire was a retired cosmetologist.

Surviving are her husband of the home; a daughter, Jaqulyn Diane Singletary of Jacksonville, Fla.; a son, William Archie Whitmire of Aiken; a sister, Laura Merrett of Charlotte; brothers, James L. Furr of Ft. Mill and Ray Albert Furr of Charlotte; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 3 to 5 p.m. this Sunday afternoon.

Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.

Julius E. Weatherford

EUTAWVILLE – Julius Ervin “Son” Weatherford, 60, of Eutawville, died Thursday, November 8, 2007 in a Charleston hospital.

The funeral will be 2 o’clock Sunday at Galilee Pentecostal Holiness Church in Cross. Burial will follow in the Black Creek United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Weatherford was born September 1, 1947, in Cross, a son of Mary Adkins Weatherford and the late Robert M. “Diggy” Weatherford. A graduate of Cross High School, He was an Army veteran, and a machinist with CMMC Machine. Mr. Weatherford was president of the County Line Hunt Club, an active member and deacon of Galilee Pentecostal Holiness Church, and organ donor.

Surviving are his wife, Patricia Mims Weatherford of Eutawville; his mother of St. George; a daughter, Stacey L. (Jimmy) Smith of Cross; a son, Rodney W. Weatherford of Eutawville; brothers, Leroy “Ally Cat” Weatherford of St. George, and Robert “Tony” Weatherford of Cross; grandchildren, Michael Weatherford and Trey Smith, both of Cross.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. this Saturday at Avinger Funeral Home in Holly Hill.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Galilee Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Mrs. Phylliss L. Avey

EUTAWVILE – Mrs. Phylliss Lemke Avey, 82, of Eutawville, died Sunday, November 11, 2007 at The Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg.

A memorial service will be held at 2 o’clock pm Wednesday at Avinger Funeral Home Chapel in Holly Hill with Rev. John Scott officiating. Burial will be private.

Mrs. Avey was born in Grand Rapids, Mich., a daughter of the late Joe Lemke and Florence Han. She was a member of the Eutawville VFW#10980 Ladies Auxiliary and an Episcopalian.

Surviving are her husband, William R. “Bill” Avey of Eutawville; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard L. “Rich” McGowan and Mary Jo McGowan of Eutawville.

Memorials may be made to the Eutawville VFW #10980 Ladies Auxiliary, C/O Mrs. Linda Ballard, 502 Peach Orchid St., Vance SC 29163.

Mrs. Blanche W. Whetstone

HOLLY HILL - Mrs. Blanche Weathers Whetstone of 581 Shuler Belt Road, formerly of 546 Banbury Drive, Branchville, died November 24, 2007, in the Regional Medical Center, Orangeburg.

Funeral services will be 11 o'clock, Monday, November 26, in the Bowman Southern Methodist Church, the Rev. Billy Griffith and the Rev. Karen Starr will officiate. Burial will be in the Bowman Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Whetstone was born December 6, 1913, in Bowman a daughter of the late William O. and Carrie Whetsell Weathers. She was a charter member of the Bowman Southern Methodist Church. She was a loving sister, aunt and a good friend to all who knew her.

She was the widow of Samuel Auburn Whetstone and predeceased by three sisters and three brothers Myra Bell Weathers, Mopsie W. Easterlin, Bobbie W. Warren, Howard Weathers, W.O. Weathers, and Seth Weathers.

Survivors are a sister Sue (Charles) Shuler of Holly Hill, a brother Ed (Etta Maye) Weathers of Maggie Valley, NC, a brother-in-law Billy Warren of Branchville. Eleven nieces and nephews, a number of great nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at Avinger Funeral Home or the residence.

The family will receive friends at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Shuler, 581 Shuler Belt Road, 5 to 7 p.m., Sunday, November 25.

Memorials may be made to the Bowman Southern Methodist Church, 461 Hunting Road, Branchville, SC 29432 or Bowman Memorial Cemetery, P.O. Box 215, Bowman, SC 29018.

Mrs. Connie Williams

WALTERBORO – Mrs. Connie Ree Parker Williams, 72, of Walterboro, wife of Charles P. Williams, Jr., died Friday, November 30, 2007, at her home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Avinger Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Wallace King officiating. Burial will follow in the Black Creek UMC Cemetery.

Mrs. Williams was born September 16, 1935 in Berkeley County, a daughter of the late Stephen Benjamin Parker and Ollie Mae Brownlee Parker. She was a devoted wife and mother, and an active member of the Walterboro Church of God.

Surviving are her husband; daughters, Charlotte Anne Huffman of Nashville, Tenn., Renee Carden of Walterboro, and Lori Williams of Goose Creek; sons, Charles P. Williams, III of Spartanburg, and Stephen J. Williams of Hampton, Tenn.; sisters, Ora Mae Singletary of James Island and Edith Metts of Summerville; brothers, Roy Parker of Moncks Corner, and J.B. Parker of Cross; 16 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday afternoon at AVINGER FUNERAL HOME IN HOLLY HILL.

Dorothy Frances Young

SANTEE-Mrs. Dorothy Frances Young, 92, of Bradford Village, Santee, died Sunday, December 2, 2007 at The Oaks in Orangeburg.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in AVINGER FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL IN HOLLY HILL with Rev. John Doubles officiating. Burial will be Saturday in Trenton, NJ.

Mrs. Young was born in McClung, VA a daughter of the late Mitchell T. Liptrap and Marian Rose Vest Liptrap. She attended the Santee Presbyterian Church and was the widow of Carl V. Young, Sr. Surviving are daughters, Mrs. Marian Larson of Santee, and Mrs. Lois Anne Korona of Trenton, NJ; sons, Carl V. Young Jr. of Goose Creek, and Richard V. Young of Phoenix, AZ; 8 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home before and after the service.

James Wesley Woodrow

EUTAWVILLE - Mr. James Wesley Woodrow, 79, of Eutawville, husband of Janie Bunch Woodrow, died Tuesday, November 13, 2007 in a Greensboro, NC hospital.

The funeral will be 1 o'clock Saturday at Bethlehem Southern Methodist Church with Rev. Philip Rorabaugh and Danny Sapp officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Woodrow was born in Winona, Kansas a son of the late Homer H. Woodrow and Esther Merica Woodrow. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and a retired textile plant engineer. He was a member of the Vance Masonic Lodge and Bethlehem Southern Methodist Church. He was a former Scout Leader and an avid hunter and fisherman.

Surviving are his wife of Eutawville; daughter, Patricia (Richard) Bressler of Oak Island, NC; son, James W. (Becky) Woodrow, Jr. of Summerfield, NC; grandson, Tyler Woodrow of Summerfield, NC; sister-in-law, Miriam Logan of Eutawville; and nephew, Jackie Bunch of Eutawville.

Friends may call at AVINGER FUNERAL HOME IN HOLLY HILL from 6 to 8 pm Friday.

Memorials may be made to Bethlehem Southern Methodist Church, PO Box 595 Eutawville, SC 29048.

Jack R. "Skipper" Clark, Jr.
03/18/1945 - 12/7/2007

SANTEE – Mr. Jack Ralph “Skipper” Clark, Jr., 62, of Santee, died Friday, December 7, 2007 at his home.

No services are planned at this time.

Mr. Clark was born in Banner Elk, NC, a son of the late Jack R. Clark and Elizabeth Burleson Clark. An Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War, he was a real estate broker recently working on a consulting basis.

Surviving are his wife, Sadra Elkins Clark of Santee; daughters, Leandra Boltin of Garnett, and Jessica Clark of Knoxville, TN; sons, Joshua Clark of Alexandria, VA, and Matthew Clark of Dallas, GA; grandchildren, Jordan Clark of Dallas, GA, Hailey and Clay Boltin, both of Garnett.

Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Avinger Funeral Home of Holly Hill is assisting the family.
