Paula Wright Parker
RALEIGH, N.C. — Paula Parker, 46, of Raleigh, passed away Wednesday morning, November 8, 2006, following an extended illness.

Paula was born in Columbia, South Carolina, and moved to Raleigh when she was 10 years old. Growing up she attended Millbrook Baptist Church where she and her friends were very active all through high school. She graduated from Millbrook High School in 1978 and headed to UNC-Chapel Hill with early acceptance. While at UNC, she was an excellent student and enjoyed many good times with her fellow sisters at the Alpha Chi Omega sorority.

Upon graduation in 1982, Paula accepted a position with PYA Monarch Food Service in Columbia, SC, a passion she enjoyed from an early age, handed down to her from her father, who was the Division President of PYA in Raleigh. Paula continued to share this passion with her dad and, over the next 22 years, worked her way up the corporate ladder with the company until she achieved the position of Zone President of Southeast Operations for the now U.S. Foodservice Company.

During all of Paula’s challenging professional time, she never forgot to give of herself personally. She sat on the Wake County Hospice Board, served at the Food Bank of North Carolina and greatly enjoyed her time at the very charitable Junior League of Raleigh. With all the responsibilities of a professional career, homemaker and passionate friend, Paula continued to reach out and touch others; co-workers, clients and competitors alike. Always with a kind word encouraging others to persevere with character while thinking of others, she stressed to all her love and dependence on her Lord Jesus Christ.

Paula’s zeal for life was certainly reflected in everything she did. She was a fabulous cook, entertainer, decorator and dresser; special traits she acquired from her mother. She loved to travel, but most of all, she cherished time spent with her family, chosen family, her girls, Tai, Coco and Lily and her devoted husband.

Paula and her family are members of the North Raleigh Church of the Nazarene where much of her and their continued growth and faith in our Lord has been fostered. If one thing can be said of Paula, it certainly would be that she tried to live her life as Psalm 19:14 reads: “Let the words of my mouth and the mediation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my strength and my redeemer.”

Paula is survived by her many cousins, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, friends, chosen family and immediate family, Raymond Sr. and Elizabeth Parker, Karen and Alan Edwards, Chris and Kathy Parker and Michael Parker and his fiancee, Tari Hamilton. Her parents, Charles and Pauline Wright and her sister, Lisa Wright, Paula’s husband, Raymond, all who absolutely adored her. We can’t wait to be with you again.

The family would like to thank their church for all they have done during this trying and difficult time. Also, many thanks to Duke Oncology for their valiant and steadfast efforts.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of the United States, P.O. Box 52137, Phoenix, AZ 85072-9995. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at North Raleigh Church of the Nazarene. There will be a brief visitation following the service at the church. A private family entombment will be held in the chapel of Memories Mausoleum at Montlawn Memorial Park. Arrangements by Montlawn Funeral Home, 2911 S. Wilmington Street, Raleigh.
