COLUMBIA — Memorial services for Bill Peacock, born Dec. 23, 1933, will be held 5-7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, 2007, at River Bluff Baptist Church, following the burial service in Greenlawn Cemetery.

He was predeceased by his son, Billy Peacock. Surviving are his children, Charlie, Joe, Johnny, Lisa, Bobby and Scotty, all from his previous marriage to Dorothy M. Peacock, all of West Columbia; daughter, Julie Grainger from a previous marriage to Juewel Stevens, of West Columbia; 13 grandchildren.

All friends and family are welcome to attend.

Young Sung Pak
COLUMBIA — Service for Young Sung Pak, 49, will be held Saturday at noon at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Northeast. Visitation will be Friday noon - 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Pak died Thursday, January 25, 2007. Born in Seoul, Korea, he was a son of Ho Yong Pak and Chong Hee Pak. He was a member of the San dol Church.

Surviving are wife, Keum Sook Pak; daughters, Gi Ae Pak and Ka Ae Pak; and brothers, Gun Sang Pak and Jin Sung Pak; and best friend, Thomas Jung, all of Columbia.

Patricia Glenn
LEXINGTON — Services for Patricia Glenn, 55, 2 p.m. Saturday at Brookland Baptist Church. Burial: Gibson Cemetery. Visitation 1-8 tonight at Jones Metropolitan F.H., West Columbia. Born in Lexington Co. to Paul Niles and Wilhelmenia Kirby, she died Jan. 20, 2007. Surviving: mother; husband, Mack Sr.; children, Laletta Hunter, Mack Jr., Dennis and Tony Glenn.; six sisters; 21 grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

Genevier “Nee” Huckabee
WINNSBORO — Funeral services for Genevier Mae “Nee” Huckabee, 61, will be held 7 p.m. Friday January 26, 2007, at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. Interment will take place 1 p.m. Saturday, January 27, 2007, in Riverview Memorial Park Cemetery, Charleston, SC. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday, January 26, 2007, at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. Memorials may be made to the Fairfield PSN Board and designate to Wilson Nursing #1, PO Box 367, Winnsboro, SC 29180.

Ms. Huckabee, born May 14, 1945, in Charleston, SC, passed away January 24, 2007. She was the daughter of the late Henry B. and Genevier Byrd Huckabee. Ms. Huckabee was a member of the First Baptist Church, West Columbia, SC. She was a resident of Kennsington Group Home for several years and then a patient at Wilson Nursing Home for the past three years.

Ms. Huckabee is survived by her sister, Jemelle H. Ligon of Salisbury, NC; sister, Pansy H. Lynes of Goose Creek, SC; brother, Henry T. Huckabee of Summerville, SC, brother-in-law, Norman B. Patterson and his wife, Mary, of Virginia Beach, VA, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Virginia H. Patterson, and brothers, J. Edison Huckabee and John E. Huckabee.

Ruth Cannon Metts
IRMO — Ruth Elisabeth Cannon Metts, a lifelong resident of the Dutch Fork community and for the last seven years a resident of the Lowman Home, White Rock, died Wednesday, January 24, 2007. A daughter of the late Warren L. Cannon and Lily Koon Cannon, she was a descendant of Heinrich Koon, an original settler of the Dutch Fork in 1744. She was reared on her family’s farm in the Bear (Behr) Creek section of Lexington County near Chapin. With the completion of Lake Murray in 1927 and their farmland bordering the lake’s shores, her family was one of the first to make available rental cabins and boats for lake tourists. At marriage, she transferred her church membership from Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church, Chapin, to Salem United Methodist Church, Ballentine. In the Ballentine community, she supported children and youth activities at Salem United Methodist Church, the Dutch Fork Elementary PTA and the Dutch Fork Boys’ Youth Baseball. With the opening of Dutch Square Mall, she began, in her midlife, a sales career at Lourie’s and Tapp’s. Her sense of style and genuine warmth enabled her to receive numerous awards for outstanding sales. Following her retirement, she and her husband spent many hours in their flower and vegetable gardens. Their seasonal landscapes of colorful flowers and plentiful vegetables were not only a pleasure for them, but a gift to share with the community. She was at home with the world and on a daily basis, even after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease, she practiced the art of lending a helping hand. She believed generosity was a crucial piece of the puzzle of living a good life among others.

Mrs. Metts was predeceased by her husband of sixty years, Carlisle Eusebuis Metts. She is survived by children and their spouses: Warren H. Metts and Johnnie Ann of Ballentine, Joyce M. Grimes and Jimmy of Ballentine, and Inis M. Gibbes and Larry of Charlotte, N.C.; nine grandchildren and their spouses: Charles E. Metts Jr. and Gina of Newberry, Lisa M. Bouknight and Donnie of Irmo, Tammy M. Szucs and Mike of Beaufort, S. Michelle “Shelly” Bouknight and Bryan of Irmo, J. Bartley “Bart” Grimes and Heather of Camden, Melissa L. Metts of Columbia, J. Reid Grimes of Columbia, Lauren Cannon Gibbes of Asheville, N.C., and Scott E. Gibbes of Charlotte; great-grandchildren: Austin Bouknight of Irmo, Joseph E. Metts and Christopher Metts of Newberry, Courtney E. and J. Dalton Grimes of Camden and Sydney E. Bouknight of Irmo. She was predeceased by her elder son, Charles E. Metts Sr. and his wife, Stella T. Metts.

Graveside service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Salem United Methodist Church, 1321 Salem Church Road, Irmo. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service. Memorials may be made to Salem United Methodist Church Building Fund.

Warren H. Metts and his wife, Johhnie Ann, served as Mrs. Metts’ primary caregivers. The family wishes to acknowledge the thoughtful and genuine care provided by the staff and volunteers at the Lowman Home.

Anthony Francis Ippolito
COLUMBIA — Memorial service for Anthony Francis Ippolito, 65, will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Mr. Ippolito, a prominent area home builder for twenty years, died Wednesday, January 24, 2007. Born in Chicago, Ill., he was a 1962 graduate of the University of Tennessee.

As the owner of Lexington Partners, Inc., he built in upscale neighborhoods in Chapin, Lake Murray, Lexington, Irmo and throughout Columbia. He was a hunter, tennis player, enjoyed gardening, reading and especially spending time with his four grandchildren.

A loving husband, father and grandfather, he is survived by his wife, Eleanor A. Ippolito; son and daughter-in-law, Anthony S. and Terri Ippolito of Asheville, N.C.; daughter and son-in-law, Dee Ippolito and Mark Sanders of Columbia; brother, Gregory Ippolito of Lebanon, Tenn.; sister, Valerie Volkert of Nashville, Tenn.; and grandchildren, Kelsey A. Sanders, Brad T. Sanders, Daniel J. Ippolito, and Anna O. Ippolito; and other extended family.

Mr. Ippolito was well respected by family, friends and business colleagues and will be greatly missed.

Minnie Lou Jeffords
ORANGEBURG — Minnie Lou “Penny” Fersner Jeffords, 90, of Orangeburg, died Thursday, January 25, 2007, at her residence.

Graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, January 27, 2007, in Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Ben Herlong officiating.

Mrs. Jeffords was born in Cameron, SC, a daughter of the late John David Fersner Sr. and the late Minnie Lee Smith Fersner. She was a retired elementary school teacher, teaching in Manning and Orangeburg District Five. She was a graduate of Furman University, a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and The Home Department for over 25 years. Mrs. Jeffords was also a member of The Camellia Garden Club and The Delta Kappa Gamma. She was the widow of Julian “ Dutch” Jeffords.

Survivors are her sister-in-law, Mrs. Betty Jo Sloan Fersner, Folly Beach; a niece, Mrs. Judy Walker, Waleska, GA; three nephews, Mr. John Fersner III, Greensboro, NC, Mr. Joseph Fersner, Mt. Pleasant, Mr. Jeffery Fersner, Charleston; one great nephew, Conner Fersner, Mt. Pleasant; one great-niece, Alexandra Fersner, Greensboro, NC.

She was a predeceased by a brother, Mr. John David Fersner Jr.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s United Methodist 1356 Amelia St., Orangeburg, SC 29115.

The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6-8 at Dukes-Harley Funeral Home

Robert Louis Green
LEXINGTON — Funeral services for Robert Louis Green, 82, Lexington will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, January 27, 2007, at New Bethel AME Church, Lexington. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, January 26, 2007, at Lexington Funeral Home.

Mr. Green died Tuesday, January 23, 2007, in Lexington Medical Center. He was a faithful member of New Bethel AME Church. Born in Lexington, he was a son of the late John Olin and Jimmie Mae Wise Green. He attended the public schools of Lexington. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired from the Department of Youth Services and enjoyed fishing, attending Atlanta Braves baseball games and traveling.

Surviving are his loving wife of 56 years, Bessie Strother Green; two daughters, Bonita Geathers (Henry J.) of Columbia and Terri Green of Lexington; one son, Henry Green of Columbia. He is also survived by one brother, William Green (Ruby) and one sister, Constina Bobo (Milton) of Honea Path; four sisters-in-law, Hazel Taylor, Thelma Strothers, Ozzie Green, all of Lexington and Arlene Green Thomas of Cleveland, Ohio; a host of neices, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Lexington Funeral Home is in charge.

Grace Owens Humphrey
SUMTER — Grace Owens Humphrey, 90, widow of John Henderson Humphrey, died Wednesday, January 24, 2007, at a local nursing center.

Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Daniel S. “Terry” Owens Sr. and the late Ivy Boatfield Owens.

Mrs. Humphrey was a member of Grace Baptist Church where she was active in the Sunday school, sang in the church choir and served as choir librarian. She was formerly employed by the United States Agricultural Department, South Carolina Office of Employment, Aldersgate United Methodist Church and Grace Baptist Church.

Surviving are a son, Myron H. Humphrey of North Carolina; a daughter, Nan H. Freeman of Sumter; a sister, Bettie O. Clemmons of Memphis, Tennessee; grandchildren, Tammy Freeman, Johnny Freeman and Will Freeman of Sumter; Elizabeth Humphrey, Kim Humphrey and Ashley Humphrey of North Carolina; several great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Frances M. Owens of Charleston; 12 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, D.A. “Sandy” Owens, D.S. “Terry” Owens Jr. and Harold F. Owens; and a sister, Nell O. Williams.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Grace Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. James Chandler and the Rev. Dr. Bill Clemmons officiating.

Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be nephews and grandsons.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Loyal Friends Sunday School Class.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Grace Baptist Church, 219 W. Calhoun Street, Sumter, SC 29150 or to Hospice Care of Tri-County, 1236-B Wilson Hall Road, Sumter, SC 29150.

Lake H. Jackson
BATESBURG-LEESVILLE — Services for Lake Hendricks Jackson, 82, will be conducted 3 p.m. Sunday at B-L Presbyterian Church with the Rev. David Torrey officiating. Burial will follow in Ridge Crest Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Barr-Price Funeral Home and Cremation Service, B-L Chapel. Memorials may be made to the B-L Presbyterian Church, 103 Mitchell St., B-L, SC 29006 or the American Lung Assoc., 1817 Gadsden St., Columbia, SC 29201.

Mrs. Jackson died Wednesday, January 24, 2007. Born in Easley and reared in Liberty, she was the daughter of the late Doyle and Winona Barksdale Hendricks Sr. She retired from Lexington County School District 3 and was a member of B-L Presbyterian Church, American Legion Auxiliary, B-L Study Club, Camellia Garden Club, ADK National Teachers Sorority, various B-L Bridge Clubs and was a long-time IPTAY Member.

Surviving are sons and daughter-in-law, Leland A. “Jack” Jackson Jr. of Newberry and LTC (Ret.) Edwin B. and Kathy Jackson of Yorktown, VA; daughter and son-in-law, Carol J. and William Scyphers of B-L; grandchildren, Cadet Edwin Morrow “Morry” Jackson of the US Air Force Academy, CO and William Leland “Lee” Jackson of Yorktown, VA. She was predeceased by her husband, Leland A. Jackson Sr. and brother, Doyle “Bud” Hendricks Jr.

Betty A. McKnight
LAKE CITY — Services for Betty A. McKnight, 65, are 2:30 p.m. Monday: Bethesda UMC, burial: Rest Lawn Cemetery. Green’s F.H. is in charge. Born in Williamsburg Co. to Adam and Elizabeth Hannah McKnight, she died January 24, 2007. Surviving are sisters, Queen Wright, Debra, Mazie, Jannette McKnight, Jestine Cameron; brothers, Bernard, James, Levern, William; nieces, nephews, aunts.

Roosevelt Cameron
LAKE CITY — Services for Roosevelt Cameron, 62, 11 a.m. Monday: Mt. Clair Missionary Baptist Church, burial: Florence U.S. National Cemetery. Green’s F.H. is in charge. Born in Scranton to Sallie Cooper Cameron and Kelly Cameron, he died Jan. 23, 2007. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Surviving: mother; sisters, Margaret Singletary, Francis Scott, Queen Flowers; brother, Leveron Cameron; nieces, nephews.

Ruth Shirah Brazell
BLYTHEWOOD — Funeral service for Ruth Shirah Brazell, 70, of Blythewood, will be held 11 o’clock Monday, January 29, 2007, at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, with Rev. Amos Hann officiating. Burial will follow in Old Macedonia Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 Sunday afternoon at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Palmetto Health Hospice, 1400 Pickens St., Columbia, SC 29201.

Mrs. Brazell, widow of James Adison Brazell, died Friday, January 26, 2007. Born in Indian Town, FL, she was a daughter of the late Heyward and Pearl Snelgrove Shirah.

Survivors include her sons, Jimmy Brazell of West Columbia, Lee Meadows of Summerville, GA, John Brazell of Blythewood; daughters, Donna (Wayne) Shafer of Franklin, GA, Sandra Hall of Stockbridge, GA, Debbie Brazell of Blythewood; sisters, Edith Starnes of Myrtle Beach, Joyce Hooker of Lexington; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Luther E. Meadows, Jr.; brothers, George H. Shirah, Jr. and Marion Shirah.

Stanley Buck Pearson
KINGSTREE — Services for Stanley Pearson, 64, are 1 p.m. Monday: Bethel AME Church, Lane, burial: McKnight Cemetery. Dimery & Rogers Funeral Home is in charge. Born in Lane to Charlie Pearson Sr. and Anna Lee Davis Pearson Darby, he died Jan. 27, 2007. He was a construction worker. Surviving are siblings, Ruth, Thomas Pearson, Mary Just; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Ellis H. “Jack” Huffstetler
CHAPIN — Funeral services for Ellis Haskell “Jack” Huffstetler, 83, of Chapin, will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 31, 2007, at St Thomas Lutheran Church, Chapin with Reverend Larry Hagerty officiating. Interment will follow in Bush River Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, January 30, 2007, at Caughman- Harman Funeral Home Chapin Chapel.

Mr. Huffstetler died Sunday, January 28, 2007, following an extended and courageous battle with cancer.

Born July 20, 1923, in Chapin, he was a son of the late Arthur Milton and Willie Mae Mayer Huffstetler.

Mr. Huffstetler was a graduate of Chapin High School and a self-employed builder for the greater part of his career. He was a member of the Eau Claire Lions Club, a Master Mason holding his 50 year membership at Little Mountain Lodge No. 281, an active member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church and The Lutheran Men in Mission. Mr. Huffstetler was also a World War II veteran and awarded the American Theatre Campaign Medal, Victory Medal, Eamet Campaign Medal with five bronze service stars and Good Conduct Medal.

Surviving are his loving and devoted wife of 57 years, Frances Mills Huffstetler; two daughters, Brenda (Tripp) Berry of Chapin and Connie (Gene) Fulmer of Columbia; four grandchildren, Brian (Michelle) Mills, Ashleigh Mills, Trey (Karla) Miller and Lindsey Fulmer; one stepgrandchild, Kip Berry; one great-grandchild, Preston Mills; four sisters, Margie Jordan, Doris Long, Caro Knight and Nell White; three brothers, Clarence M. “Hump” Huffstetler, Leonard R. “Skin” Huffstetler and G.L. “Jim” (Carolyn) Huffstetler and one sister-in-law, Allene Huffstetler. He was predeceased by a brother, Rudolph Huffstetler.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Phillip Baldwin of S.C. Oncology, the fourth floor nurses at Palmetto Health Richland Cancer Center, Palmetto Health Home Health and Hospice nurses, Cindy White and Katherine Lu, for their loving care.
