Daniel Stewart Judd
COLUMBIA — Dan S. Judd, 82, of Columbia, formerly of Asheville, NC, died Sunday January 28, 2007, in Lexington Medical Center in West Columbia.

A native of Buncombe County (born March 6, 1924), Mr. Judd was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Oscar (Mabel Moyers) Judd. After returning home from serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, he operated Judd Furniture and Supply with his father. Mr. Judd continued the operation of the hardware store after his father’s death until he went into accounting on a full-time basis. Dan was the District Director of the U.S. Census for Western North Carolina in 1960. He was actively involved with the West Asheville Lions Club, West Asheville Lodge #665 AF & AM where he was a past master, Trinity United Methodist Church and various political activities. He was a founding member of the West Asheville Merchants Association and recently assisted the West Asheville Library with a project on “Old Haywood Road.” The Judds moved to Columbia in 1968 where Dan was affiliated with Columbia College of South Carolina. In 1973 he and his wife founded the tax and accounting firm of Dan S. Judd Consultant, Inc. in Irmo. He was a member of Union United Methodist Church in Irmo and the Aline Leitner Fellowship Class. Mr. Judd served on the Board of Directors of Lexington Medical Center for nine years and also on the Board of the Lexington County Library at the time of the building of new Irmo Library. Additionally, Mr. Judd was active in the Irmo Ruritan Club and the Eau Claire Masonic Lodge.

Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Margaret Norvelle Shipman Judd; children, Dan Judd Jr. of Birmingham, AL, Mary Margaret Judd of Lexington, and Oscar (Leesa) Judd of Lyman; grandchildren, Guy and Judd Wood and Oscar, Amanda, Frances and Maggie Judd; great-grandson, Daven Wood; brothers-in-law, Bert (Ruth) Shipman and John Johnston; nieces, nephews and extended family members to include Susan K. Judd, Carol P. Stephen and Doug Wood. Mr. Judd was predeceased by his sister, Ophelia J. Scroggs, and sister-in-law, Carol S. Johnston.

Funeral services will be 6 p.m. this evening (Tuesday) at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home on Bush River Road in Columbia. Visitation will follow the service. Grave-side services with Masonic rites will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Green Hills Cemetery in West Asheville, NC. Honorary pallbearers will be members of West Asheville Lodge #665 AF & AM.

R. Jerry Rogers
LEXINGTON — Mr. R. Jerry Rogers, 64, husband of Gail Waters Rogers died January 28, 2007, in Lexington Medical Center.

A celebration of life will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 31, 2007, at Oakwood Baptist Church, Dr. C. Richard Wilson, officiating. The pallbearers will be Marty Waters, Jason Mangum, Terry Edwards, Quinton Reeder, Vernon Rutland and Harvey Club. Honorary pallbearers will be the bus drivers and staff of Lexington District #1 Transportation Department. Burial will follow in Lexington Memorial Gardens with military honors.

Visitation will be held at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. Memorials may be made to Oakwood Baptist Church Building Fund, 3520 Mineral Springs, Lexington, SC 29073 or Connie Maxwell Children’s Home, PO Box 1178, Greenwood, SC 29648.

Jerry Rogers was born in Mullins to the late Mr. R. Howard Rogers and the late Mrs. Josephine Rogers.

Jerry was an active member of Oakwood Baptist Church. He retired from Loxcreen Inc. and from Lexington School District #1 as a bus driver. He was a Vietnam veteran and the past president of Lexington Dixie Youth. He loved sports and enjoyed coaching baseball, basketball, football and soccer.

Jerry Rogers is survived by his loving wife, Gail Waters Rogers. He is also survived by his children Richard Jerone Rogers II “Jay” and his wife, Cheryl, of Columbia, Rev. Joseph Penn Rogers “Joey” and his wife, Kimberly, of Greenwood, Rev. Jamie Lee Rogers Sr. and his wife, Tonya, of Lexington. Jerry’s “number one” joys in life were his grandchildren, JJ, Hunter, Abigail, and Drew Rogers. They will truly miss their PePa. His siblings, Betty Jo Stewart, Ken Rogers and his wife, Barbara, Rod Rogers and his wife, LeVan, Deborah Faulk, and his brother-in-law, Freddie Waters and his wife, Fredia, also survive him. He also had numerous nieces and nephews.

Iler Mae Green
KINGSTREE — Services for Iler Mae Green, 78, 1 p.m. Wednesday (4 p.m. today viewing with 6 p.m. wake) at Evangelistic Temple Way of the Cross. Burial: St. Michael United Methodist Church Cemetery. Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home is in charge. Born in Williamsburg County to Robert and Nettie Bryant, she died Jan. 25, 2007. Surviving: four sons, six daughters, one brother, others.

David Christopher Hudson
LEXINGTON — Memorial services for David Christopher Hudson, 23, will be held 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 31, 2007, at the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, officiated by Chaplin Holly Emore. The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Big Dave’s Field of Dreams, c/o P.O. Box 4526, West Columbia, SC 29171.

David “Big Dave” passed away January 27, 2007. Born in Monterey, CA, he was the son of Barry Wayne Hudson and Donna Carol Newman Hudson. Formerly of Monterey, CA, he had been an area resident since 1988. He attended Camden Military School, receiving the Sons of American Revolution Award, and U.S.C. Salkahatchie, FL, and Claflin in Orangeburg. He was an employee of Cosa Bella Tile & Granite. He played baseball for both colleges. He was a loving son, nephew, grandson and cousin. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Through his death, he gave the gift of life to others through organ donation.

Surviving in addition to his mother, Donna Hudson of Hudson, FL, are his father, Barry Hudson; aunts, Deborah (Will) Harrison of Alachua, FL, Dale (Sam) Laster of Myrtle Beach; uncle, David (Tracy) Newman of Inman; cousins, Kyle Newman, Clee Laster, Lindsey Newman, Donald Laster, William Laster and Kendra Laster; grandparents, Don and Mary Newman of Prosperity. Mr. Hudson was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents.

The family will have a reception at 223 Tarragon Drive, Lexington, SC 29073 following the service.

KINGSTREE — Services for David Charles Green, 24, are 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul UMC with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery. Dimery and Rogers F.H. is in charge. Born in Kingstree to David Green and Elsie Glick, he died Jan. 29, 2007. Surviving: parents; sons, A’Dajeon Maqazine, David Green; sisters, Shana Burgess, Na’Neta and Charlotta Green; grandparents, Ethel and Mose Green; many others.

Diane McCallum Grant
GREENVILLE — Diane McCallum Grant, 67, of 2 Mimosa Drive, died Saturday, February 24, 2007.

Mrs. Grant was the wife of Thomas H. Grant and the daughter of Lois Jean Whitehead McCallum and the late Robert Furman McCallum. She earned an Associate Degree from Winthrop University and had retired from Liberty Life where she was Director of Agency Administration. She was employed at SC Telco Credit Union. Mrs. Grant was an active member of Northeast Church of Christ.

In addition to her loving husband and mother, she is survived by two daughters, Janis Albergotti and her husband, Jim, of Lexington, and Sherri Grant of Greer; a son, Tommy Grant and his wife, Ramona, of Greenville; five grandchildren, Katie and Mac Albergotti, Henry, Hannah, and Rebecca Grant; two sisters, Pat Buckner of Anderson, and Daphne Sides of Boca Raton, FL; and one brother, Gerry McCallum of Bluffton, SC. She was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Jean McCallum.

Visitation will be held from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 25, 2007, at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, February 26, 2007 at Northeast Church of Christ. Burial will be at Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Curtis F. Goldin
LEXINGTON — Funeral services for Curtis F. Goldin will be held Monday, February 26, 2007, at 3:00 p.m. at Lexington United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Richard Knight, Rev. Delos Corderman, and Rev. John Ropp. The family will receive friends Sunday, February 25, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Caughman Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. Interment will be in Bush River Memorial Gardens following the service.

Mr. Goldin went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 23, after a valiant battle with cancer. Born in Bremen, Georgia, September 10,1928, he was the son of the late Eugene F. and Zelma Reid Goldin. He was predeceased by a brother Chester L. Goldin and a sister Ruth Goldin Gibbs, both of Georgia.

In September 1950, during the early stages of the Korean War, Mr. Goldin enlisted in the United States Army Reserves serving as Sergeant until his honorable discharge in 1952. He was employed for fifteen years by Plantation Pipeline Company, working throughout its Central Division in Tennessee and Georgia. Moving to Lexington in 1961, he joined the Dixie Pipeline Company as terminal manager, activating the Lexington terminal and assisting the new company with its beginnings. He loyally served “Dixie” and her family in the southeastern U.S. for thirty years.

As an adult, Boy Scouts of America became one of his passions. Never having been a scout himself, he recognized the value of scouting for young men and boys. For forty-five years he served in various leadership positions in Troop 507 at Lexington United Methodist Church. He served as District Chairman of Scout-o-Rama for several years and on the Indian Waters Council as chairman of the Pinewood Derby Committee. In recognition for his service to scouting, he was awarded the Order of the Arrow and the Silver Beaver Award. His church scouting program recently named their Eagle Scout roster in his honor. He received much satisfaction from helping young men and boys grow in scouting and made many lifetime friends supporting the BSA program.

One of the joys and privileges of his life was being a member of Lexington United Methodist Church. During his 45 year membership he served on the Administrative Board, the Board of Trustees, as Sunday School Superintendent, and on two Building Committees. He was always quick to say how much he loved and appreciated his church family. The love and support from his brothers and sisters in Christ was a blessing to him and his family during his illness.

Mr. Goldin is survived by his beloved wife of fifty-five years, Bobbie D. Goldin, and by his children, Debbie and Phil Dooley and Dan and Jorene Goldin, all of Lexington. In addition, he is survived by his seven precious grandchildren, Christopher and Ashley M. Dooley and Taylor Dooley of Lexington, Benjamin, Rachel, Mary Elizabeth and Joseph “Hotshot” Goldin of Winnsboro, SC. Beloved brothers and sister, Roy Gibbs and Rex and Lottie Daniell, all from Georgia, survive as well as special nieces and nephews, Mina and Henry Brooks of Pomaria, SC, Mike and Terri Gibbs of Tecumseh, MI, Melissa and Keith West of Carrollton, GA, and Harold and Gale Holcombe of Bellevue, FL. Mr. Goldin leaves behind his pal in the field, English Setter, Duke “W”.

The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to caregivers Angela Sanders, RN, and Angela Douglas of Advantage Hospice and Home Care as well as Betty Henry and Elaine Marley of New Hope Nurses & Caregivers.

Faye Byers Grant
ELGIN — Memorial service for Faye Byers Grant, 55, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 26, 2007, at Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church. Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be made to Children’s Miracle Network 3300 Two Notch Rd., Columbia, SC 29204.

Mrs. Grant, born July 13, 1951, in Portsmouth, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2007. She was the daughter of Diane Graham and the late Hugh Byers. She was very involved with the Children’s Miracle Network and assisted in fundraising efforts for this organization.

Mrs. Grant is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, John and Jennifer Grant of Lexington; daughter and son-in-law, Katie and Craig Hultz of Coshocton, Ohio; two sisters, Diane (Harold) Miller and Valerie (Bob) Hess, both of Ohio; grandchildren, Jenna and Dennis Fender, Ryan and Nathan Quinlan, Jordon and Jack Grant; stepgranddaughter, Keely Hultz; stepgreat-grandson, Reilly Hultz; and many other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by brother, Howard Byers and mother, Dianne G. Grant.

Judy Enlow Knotts
WEST COLUMBIA — Services for Judy Enlow Knotts, 49, will be held at 5 p.m. Monday, February 26, 2007, at St. David Lutheran Church. Officiating will be Rev. James Laurence and Vicar Pam Turfa. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 Sunday evening at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210. Pallbearers will be Dickie Enlow, Randy DuVall, Zack Stafford, James Knotts, Barry Stricklin, and Sean Cason.

Judy passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2007. Born in Richland County, she is the daughter of Mildred Enlow and the late Lee Vance Enlow, she was a lifetime area resident and a member of St. David Lutheran Church. She was actively involved in volunteer work in the public schools and a devoted basketball “Mom”. Judy will be dearly missed by everyone whose life she has touched. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother, and children were her life. Judy was the “baby girl” of fourteen children. She enjoyed sunsets and the rising full moon.

Surviving in addition to her mother, Mildred Enlow of Lexington; her loving and caring husband of 23 years, Brian Knotts of West Columbia; sons, Jody and Bradley Knotts both of West Columbia; father and mother-in-law, Jim and Naida Knotts of St. Matthews; sisters and brothers-in-law, Joan Beckham and Tom Maxwell of Irmo, Eleanor and Billy Ford, Juanita and Wayne Duvall, Harriett Rhoten and John Berzins, Janice and Bob Padowicz all of Lexington, Gwen and Jim Nichols of Windsor, Alice and Bernie Clegg, Laura Roland all of Lexington; brothers and sisters-in-law, Leon and Cindy Enlow of Oregon, Larry and Betty Enlow, Richard Enlow and Terri Ann Hudson, Laney Enlow, Dan Enlow all of Lexington; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Melvira Hanna Jenkins
LAKE CITY — Services for Melvira Hanna “Nay” Jenkins, 80, 2 p.m. Monday at Good News Deliverance Temple, burial: Eaddy-Ford Cemetery, Johnsonville. Green’s F.H. is in charge. Born to Bill Hanna and Elizabeth Barr, she died Feb. 21, 2007. Surviving: children, Sonia McFadden, Maggie Edwards, Nancy Graham, Lula Filmore, Early, David, Nathaniel, McArthur Belin; 3 siblings; grandchildren; others.

H.D. Koon
COLUMBIA — Services for Henry Davis “H.D.” Koon, 80, will be held Monday at 3:30 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Irmo, with burial in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 10000 Broad River Road, Columbia, S.C. 29063. Visitation will be Sunday 6-8 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo.

Mr. Koon died Saturday, March 10, 2007, after a battle with cancer. Born in Irmo February 9, 1927, he was a son of the late Jimmie Lloyd and Minnie Weed Koon. He lived most of his life in the Dutch Fork-Lake Murray area.

In 1943 Mr. Koon left home and joined the U.S. Navy to serve his country in WWII. He served aboard the Destroyer, the USS Melvin which saw action in most of the major battles in the South Pacific and was the only destroyer credited with sinking a Japanese battleship, the Fuso.

Returning home after the war, Mr. Koon and his brother started a very successful brick mason construction company. Many of the homes built in Columbia in the 1950’s, 60’s and 70’s were built by the Koon brothers.

Mr. Koon was an avid fisherman and hunter until the 1960’s when he discovered golf. A charter member of Lexington Country Club, he was most proud of achieving four holes-in-one during his golfing career.

Surviving are his wife of fifty-eight years, Verta Drafts Koon; sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Sally Koon and Danny and Jane Koon, all of Columbia; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra Koon and Phil Rodgers of Columbia; brothers and their wives, Furman and Elsie Koon of Irmo, Clyde and Rose Koon of Columbia and Kenneth and Linda Koon of Irmo; sisters and their husbands, Elizabeth and Leon Addy of Columbia and Faye and Don Morrison of Jasper, Ala.; grandchildren, Patrick Lindler, Jennifer Groce, Daniel and Anna Koon, Patrick and Ken Sercy; great-granddaughter, Cadence Groce, who was born on his 80th birthday; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, J.D. and Helen Drafts; sister-in-law, Catherine Koon; nieces and nephews. He loved his devoted and protective chihuahua, Willie. He was predeceased by brother, Jimmie Lee Koon and sister, Virginia Alwarden.

“He was a devoted husband, daddy, granddaddy and brother and we will miss him so much.”

Eddie Wingard

WEST COLUMBIA - Services for Eddie Dean Wingard, 52, will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Northside Baptist Church, with the Revs. Steve Cloud and J.O. Reed Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Woodridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 tonight at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Mr. Wingard died January 19, 2002. Born in Columbia, he was a son of Annis Price Wingard and the late Sam Wingard. Mr. Wingard was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Vietnam War era. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church and was operator of Wingard's Towing Service, 810 Sunset Blvd., West Columbia, since 1974.

Surviving are his mother of West Columbia; wife, Patricia "Patty" Hensley Wingard of West Columbia; sons and daughter-in-law, Landy and Tracey Wingard of Greenville, Greg Wingard of West Columbia; sister and brother-in-law, Jan W. and Phillip Anderson of West Columbia; brother, Teddy Wingard of West Columbia; grandson, Samuel Lowry Wingard; aunts; uncles; nieces; nephews; friends.

Kayla Johnston

SALUDA - Services for Kayla Louann Johnston, 10, of 847 Yarbrough Rd., will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ramey Funeral Home Chapel, with interment to follow in West Travis Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Kayla died February 2, 2002. Born in Greenwood County, she was a fifth grade student at Saluda Elementary School.

Surviving are her parents, Wade Frank "Pete" and Gloria Evans Johnston of the home; sisters, Patricia Chavis of Saluda, Tabitha Johnston of Elgin; brother, James Odell "Dale" Evans of Batesburg; paternal grandparents, Wade and Eunice Johnston of Saluda; aunts; cousins; one uncle.

Dr. Henry Wilder

ANDREWS - Services for Dr. Henry Wilder, 77, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 14, 2002 at First Baptist Church of Andrews. The Rev. L. Michael Mills and the Rev. Grover Mixon will officiate. Burial will follow in Andrews Memorial Cemetery under the direction of the Andrews Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6-8 this evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Andrews, 106 E. Oakland St., Andrews, SC 29510 or Wilder Scholarship Fund, c/o Arthur Smith, P.O. Drawer 25, Andrews, SC 29510.

Dr. Wilder died Monday, February 11, 2002 in Roper Hospital in Charleston. Born in Andrews, November 18, 1924, he was a son of the late Henry Buford Wilder and Bessie Matthews Wilder. He grew up in Andrews and was a graduate of Andrews High School. Dr. Wilder served in the Army and then was employed by the U.S. Post Office for a time. He attended the University of South Carolina and was a graduate of Emory University School of Dentistry, Class of 1963. Dr. Wilder practiced dentistry in Andrews for many years until his retirement.

Dr. Wilder was a member of First Baptist Church of Andrews and the Pal Sunday School Class of the church. He served his church in a number of capacities. Dr. Wilder was a former deacon, a church moderator and chairman of the flower committee.

Dr. Wilder was a floral designer and well-known flower lover. He was also founder of the Wilder Scholarship Fund for college scholarships.

Surviving are sisters, Eva W. Tompkins of Andrews and Bertha W. Hall of Dearborn, Mich. and a number of nieces and nephews. Dr. Wilder was predeceased by a brother, Olin B. Wilder and two sisters, Ruth W. Wilder and Wylma L. Wilder.
