Raymond Watts

FLORENCE - Services for Raymond Odell Watts, 76, of 1712 Raven Drive, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Calvary Baptist Church. Entombment will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery Mausoleum directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 7-9 this evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund, 915 Cherokee Road, Florence.

Mr. Watts died Monday afternoon, February 11, 2002. Born in Horry County, he was a son of the late William Henry and Brittie Rabon Watts. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, a member of the Hospital Visitation Committee, a member of the Men's Missions Ministry, member of the Church Ushers, a member and President of the Senior Men's Sunday School Class, a past member of the Deacons of the Church, a past member of the Benevolence Committee and had served on most of the church's committees.

He was a member of Amity Masonic Lodge, a member of the Scottish Rite and York Rite bodies, a member of the Omar Shrine Temple, a member and past president of the Pee Dee Shrine Club, a member and past director of the Omar Imps and was a member of the Omar Jesters.

Mr. Watts was the owner and operator of Watts and Associates Insurance Agency of Florence and was a member of the National and Florence Associations of Life Underwriters. He was named for many years to the Million Dollar Roundtable for Mutual Benefit Life Insurance Co. He was a member of the Florence Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Florence Rotary Club and was a member of the Board of Directors for the Pee Dee Chapter of the Big Brothers Association.

Surviving are his wife, Gail Hodge Watts of the home; daughter, Brenda Ann Watts of Myrtle Beach; son, Jackie Ray (Peggy) Watts of Fayetteville, N.C.; sisters, Mary Hucks, Martha Stoeckli and Bobbie W. Davis, all of Conway; brothers, Frank Watts of Conway and Willie Watts of Atlanta; grandchildren, Stone Caudle of Myrtle Beach, Anissa Cotton and Amy Watts, both of Fayetteville; great-grandchildren, Kennedy Cotton, Olivia Cotton and Camryn Cotton, all of Fayetteville.

Augustus Flood Jr.

BONNEAU - Services for Augustus "Mac" McDonald Flood Jr., 82, will be at 11 a.m. today at the First Baptist Church of Moncks Corner with burial in Friendship United Methodist Church Cemetery. Russell Funeral Home is in charge.

Mr. Flood died Feb. 11, 2002. Born in John's Island, he was a son of Augustus Sr.and Ida Robertson Flood. He had retired from the S.C. Wildlife Department.

Surviving are wife, Maude Bradwell Flood; son, Augustus Flood III; daughters, Claudette McCall, Angela Carter; brother, James Flood; sisters, Margaret Higdon, Nell Brown; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

Leroy Haithcock

GARDEN CITY - A memorial service for Leroy Haithcock, 80, will be held at 1 p.m. today at First Baptist Church of Cheraw with visitation following the service. Forbis and Dick, North Elm Chapel is in charge. Memorials may be made to the Baptist Children's Home of NC, P.O. Box 338, Thomasville, NC 27361

Mr. Haithcock died February 10, 2002 at the home of his daughter in Greensboro.

Surviving are daughter, Edna Michaux of Greensboro; three grandchildren; five great-grandsons; six great-great-grandchildren.

Jasper Cromer

NEWBERRY - Services for Jasper D. "Jack" Cromer, 75, will be held at 3 p.m. today at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel, with interment to follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. The family is at the residence and will receive friends immediately following the committal in the family room in Newberry Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Cromer died February 16, 2002. Born in Saluda, he was a son of the late Henry and Eliza Riley Cromer. Mr. Cromer was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran and a retired employee of Coleman Oil Company. He was a member of New Vision Baptist Church and the Woodmen of the World.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Bobb Cromer; sons, Richard Cromer of Newberry, Hal Cromer of Prosperity; daughter, Joanne Cromer of Newberry; sister, Luella Crouch of Saluda; brothers, Ronald Cromer and Henry Cromer Jr., both of Saluda; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Elmer Parker

LUDOWICI, Ga. - Services for Elmer O. Parker, 86, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 23, 2002 at Jones Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Stokes officiating. The body will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Jones Creek Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mark Giffin, Jeff Parker, Jay Gordon, Mark Baxter, Bobby Chestnutt and Samuel Shons. Visitation will be from 6-8 this evening at Gordon-Harrison Funeral Home of Jesup, Ga. Memorials may be made to Jones Creek Baptist Church.

Mr. Parker died Wednesday, February 20, 2002 in Providence Hospital in Columbia after a short illness. Born in Long County, Ga., he had lived in Columbia for the past 28 years subsequent to his retirement as assistant Director of the National Archives, Washington , D.C. Prior to his association with the National Archives, he was a public school teacher and principal and had served as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a graduate of Brewton Parker College and Georgia Southern University. In 1975, his name appeared on the front page of the Wall Street Journal, in Newsweek magazine and in hundreds of newspapers across the land because Congress, on the basis of a discovery he made in the National Archives, voted to restore the U.S. citizenship of Gen. Robert E. Lee which had been lost when Lee led Confederate Armies in defense of his native state during the War for Southern Independence. He was a well-known historian and genealogist and the author of several books, including the History of Jones Creek Church. He was a member of that church and of the prestigious Jamestown Society.

Surviving are daughters, Susan Kay Baker of Columbia and Elizabeth P. Griffin of Roanoke, Va.; sisters, Marinelle P. Chestnutt of Ludowici and Anita P. Gordon of Jesup; grandchildren, Mary E. Schons, Samuel Schons and Margaret Schons. He was preceded in death by his wife, Essel Griffin Parker.

George Bundrick

COLUMBIA - Services for George P. Bundrick, 62, of 3644 Hoyt Street, formerly of Newberry, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at McSwain-Evans Funeral Chapel, Newberry. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Queens Memorial Presbyterian Church or to the American Cancer Society.

Mr. Bundrick died Thursday morning, February 28, 2002 in Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital. Born in Newberry County, he was a son of Mary Stoudemire Bundrick and the late Thomas Owens Bundrick. He had retired from the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of Queens Memorial Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are his mother of Newberry; wife, Henrietta Bundrick; son, Glen Allen Bundrick of Newberry; daughter, Sherry B. Hill of Chester; brothers, James Bundrick of West Columbia and John "Tommy" Bundrick of Newberry; sister, Betty Smith of Newberry; four grandchildren.

Mary Sherman

CHARLOTTE - Services for Mary Lyles Sherman, 78, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2002 at Tulane Missionary Baptist Church, Yazoo City, Miss. with burial in Glenwood Cemetery. The Rev. Calvin Knight will officiate. Knight & Lindsey-Family Memorial Funeral Home, Yazoo City, is in charge.

Mrs. Sherman died February 24, 2002 in Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte. She was born in Sunflower County, Miss., May 28, 1923.

Surviving are her husband, Robert Sherman; children, Lola Taylor, Detroit, George Lyles Jr., Southfield, Mich., William Lyles, Jackson, Miss., Dr. Marcia Conston, Charlotte and Jacqueline Bowman, Sumter; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.

Frances Richardson

FRIENDSHIP - Services for Frances Rebecca Richardson, 69, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Friendship Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation is 7-9 tonight at Richardson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Richardson, widow of Jim Richardson, died February 28, 2002. Born in Florence County, she was a daughter of the late Ed and Mary Poston.

Surviving are daughter, Mary McAllister; brothers, Ed, Harry Poston; sisters, Ruby Poston, Bessie Stone, Patsy Morris, Blanche Poston, Peggy Cox, Eleanor Stone, Betty Prosser; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Harold Shealy Jr.

GASTON - A memorial service for Harold W. Shealy Jr., 59, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia, with the Rev. Dallas Goff officiating. Visitation will be held today after noon at the residence, 172 Ball Park Rd. Gaston.

Mr. Shealy died February 28, 2002. Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late Harold W. Shealy Sr. and Margaret L. Johnson. Mr. Shealy was a U.S. Army veteran and had been a lifetime local resident.

Surviving are his daughter, Felicia Case of Pelion; son, Wayne Shealy; brother, J.W. Shealy of Gaston; eight grandchildren.

Stephen Harsey

WEST COLUMBIA - Services for MSG Stephen Eugene Harsey (US Army, Ret.), 48, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, with the Rev. Ed Lynch officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Southland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Mr. Harsey died March 2, 2002. Born in Lexington, he was the son of Earlie Eugene "Gene" and Linda Long Harsey. Mr. Harsey retired as a master sergeant in the U.S. Army and was an assistant buyer for Pennington Seed.

Surviving are his parents; wife, Darlene B. Harsey of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Tracy (Sonny) Rhodus of West Columbia; son, James "Troy" Harsey of Lexington; sisters, Gail Crouch of West Columbia, Terri Spires of St. Matthews; brother, C. Keith Harsey of West Columbia; three grandchildren.

The family would like to express their thanks to the third floor ICU staff and the eighth floor nursing staff at Lexington Medical Center and also to Dr. G. Tripp Jones and staff.

Robert Kneece

CHESTERFIELD - Services for Robert Kneece, 77, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Douglas Mill Baptist Church with burial in Douglas Mill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 this evening at Miller-Rivers-Caudler Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Douglas Mill Baptist Church "Building Fund" 1861 Shag Road, Chesterfield, SC 29709.

Mr. Kneece died March 2, 2002. Born in Batesburg, he was the son of the late Ben Tillman and Clara Hallman Kneece. He had retired from the Savannah River Plant. Mr. Kneece was a U.S. Army World War II veteran and a member of Douglas Mill Baptist Church.

Surviving are wife, Margaret Douglas Kneece of the home; sons, Butterball of Lexington, Alfred D. Sellers of Chesterfield; daughters, Roberta McKeever and husband Jeff of Columbia, Kay Lisenby and husband Andy and Crystal Hill all of Chesterfield, Teresa Keeling and husband Darrell of Rock Hill; sister, Sara Conrad of Bamburg; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Larry Chavis

LEXINGTON — Services, with military rites, for Larry Chavis, 64, of Lexington, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 19, 2004 in the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia, officiated by Rev. James Goudelock, with burial at Southland Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Chavis died June 16, 2004. Born in Columbia, he was a son of the late Ralph and Mary Williams Chavis. He was the owner/operator of Larry Chavis Construction Company for over thirty years. Mr. Chavis served in the US Army, was an avid outdoorsman and a member of Hill Swamp Hunt Club.

Surviving are his wife, Miriam Sharpe Chavis; daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Kirk Morris of Lexington; sisters, Betty Sue Quarles of West Columbia, Mary Ellen Huggins of Sumter, Jackie Headden of West Columbia; brothers, Jackie Chavis of Chapin, Jr. Chavis of West Columbia, Richard Chavis of Lexington, Tommy Chavis of Pelion, Bruce Chavis of Gaston, Eddie Chavis of Lexington; and grandchildren, Madison and Shelby Morris.

Mr. Chavis was predeceased by a son, Steve Chavis, two brothers, L.T. Chavis and Billy Chavis, and a granddaughter, Bethany Morris.

Mamie Brantley

PINELAND — Services for Mamie L. Scott Brantley, 37, 2 p.m. Saturday at St. John Holiness Church, Nixsville; burial in church cemetery; visitation 7-8 tonight at Bostick Funeral Home, Ridgeland. Born in Pineland to Jessie and Carrie Scott, she died June 16, 2004. Surviving are husband, Cornel; children, Alicia, Cornel, D’Andre; mother; brothers, Joe Holmes, Alec, Harold, Marion, Robert, David, Larry Scott.

James Adamson Jr.
Cassatt - Services and burial for James Alexander Adamson Jr., 91, are 2 p.m. Monday at Hyco Baptist Church, where he was a member. Collins Funeral Home, Camden, is in charge. Born in Kershaw Co. to James Adamson Sr. and Ada Hubbard Spann, he died Jan. 14, 2004. Surviving: wife, Mary M. Adamson; daughter, Katye Johnson; siblings, Audree Clark, Woodrow Adamson; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.

Jessie Alexander
North Augusta - Services for Jessie Alexander, 83, are 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church of North Augusta with burial in Pineview Memorial Gardens. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Rowland Funeral Home. Born in Oconee Co., she died Jan. 16, 2004. Surviving: husband; Derrill Alexander; daughters, Glenda Harrison, Janice Williams, Judith Townsend, Susan Alexander; 6 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

Myrna Asaro
Darlington - Services for Myrna Odom Asaro, 69, are 3 p.m. Monday at Southside Free Will Baptist Church with burial in Darlington Memory Gardens. Visitation is 6-8 tonight at Belk Funeral Home. Born in Darlington Co. to Alston and Eva Odom, she died Jan. 17, 2004. Surviving: children, Eddie, Dean, Todd Asaro, Hope Frye; six grandchildren, April, Mary Beth, Edward, Ricky Asaro, Josh, Matthew Frye; eight siblings.

Fern Baker
Aiken - Services for Fern Shellenberger Baker, 76, are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Shellhouse Funeral Home with burial in Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Born in Bloomsburg, Pa., she died Jan. 16, 2004. Surviving: husband, Robert Baker; children, Lynn Shepard, Robert Penhaligon III, Donald, John Baker; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three brothers.

Patricia Baker
EFFINGHAM - Gloria Patricia "Pat" Baker, 62, of 6702 Pamplico Hwy., Effingham, died Saturday morning, January 17, 2004, in a Florence Hospital after an illness.
Mrs. Baker was born in Florence, and was a daughter of the late Wilbur M. Parrott Sr. and the late Jessie Oliver Parrott. She attended Los Angeles City College and was a retired insurance agent. She was a member of Omar Shrine Probetts and was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents and by a brother, Charles E. Parrott.
Surviving are her husband, J.W. Baker Sr. of Effingham; five children, Carol Deal of Vacaville, Calif., John (Vickie) Seifert of Florence, Teri (Dexter) Stone of Dunn, N.C., Renee (Jim) Larsen of Columbia, Joseph W. "Jody" Baker III of West Columbia; one brother, Wilbur (Diane) Parrott Jr. of Florence; two sisters, Barbara (Albert) Fore of Fork and Judith (Hubert) Jones of Columbia; and six grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital, c/o Omar Shrine, P.O. Box 21028, Charleston, SC 29413.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Florence National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
